[Q] Android 3.x - Bottom bar - General Topics

Hello all,
I am trying to set up a Motorola Xoom to be used by a disabled person (motricity issues).
One of the main problems is that constantly runs his hand on the bottom bar and popup android overlapping applications you use.
Anyone know if android allows you to modify the position of the bottom bar?

[Q] Recently used apps in Notification area - ala new Sense

Hey all,
Does anyone know of an app that achieves the display of recently used apps in the notification dropdown area?
Essentially, performing the same function that a long press on the home button does, but obviously eliminating the need to press a button.
I've been looking for something like this for a good while, and was pleasantly surprised to see HTC had included this very function in their latest version of Sense.... when I went to the HTC London meet last week .
Unfortunately, the HTC guys demoing informed me there is currently no way to obtain this feature for current handsets.
To see what I am referring to, see the video below...
46sec <---> 51 sec
Is there an app that exists for this?
Thanks in advance,
c_man
I'm more impressed with the extremely quick startup.

I think that's discussed in another thread - I remember reading its not a 'proper' power down, that allows for such a quick start up.
Anyway, back on topic...
Actually I have been looking for something similar... My wife has a mytouch slide... And when you pull down notification tray it has recent 4 now I haven't tried scrolling sideways like that guy did... But that shows that it is possible cause the slide shows 4 recent...
Just have to find someone to port that I guess

Rather than a port, which sounds like more effort, I thought an app to enable this functionality may exist.
It seems not?
its going to need a port i think, i would hope for a slightly modified version that would allow us to pin apps to it or even widgets a la galaxy s.
If you hold down the home button for a couple seconds you'll get a list of the eight last used apps.
smart bar does this an more. recent apps in drop down and/or favs and/or you can choose a certain app and/or many many more options, i cant remember. you have option to enable all or only recent apps via settings and checking off the check boxs.
i use on my a81e tablet and it works well. my long press of home button is buggy due to fw so this come in handy very much
here
Does smartbar have a big footprint?
Would really love an app that does 'just' this.

[APP IDEA] Clear notification with one touch

I would like to suggest an app that can perform the action of clearing the notification with a single tap on it (much like how tapping on "Screen off and lock" app will do to off and lock the screen).
I often find it annoying to have some extra notification that I need to drag down the notification, only to clear it afterwards - where I may not want to click into it. For instance, I use a profile changing app (Llama) and it will notify me for any changes in profiles, but it won't go away until I clear it off. I am sure sometimes showing a notification icon is very sufficient already to notify us about something. No need to drag down notification bar to read the content and clear it later.
I know I am lazy to drag down and clear, but a single tap on homescreen to do the job is certainly much better!
Please let me know if there is existing app already.
i don't think there is much demand for such an app, since you already can slide down and press clear
but that is just what i think of it
well i would love such an app. i've also been looking for such an app for a long time but none exists. this is good for notifications that u already know about and don't need to see them so you just clear them away with a click without needing to swipe down and then press Clear.
Would it be s widget/ shortcut?

It could be either, as long as it does the job.

I too would be interested in this...
I am fairly certain this app is not possible per OS security--an app cannot clear another's notifications.

but if you have root...
I think it's how we can duplicate or mirror the Clear button somewhere else.. either via shortcut or app or widget.. and we probably need root for that..
I dont mind using the "clear" button on my Galxy W , just so long as they STAYED clear. Whenever another notification fires, I get past notification for nearly a month previous come up! - Its bloody annoying and Ithought it was a consequence of rooting, but a friend, with the same unrooted phone has exactly the same problem, so I think this may be a bug with this relatively new model - thought OTA, 2.3.6. update might have solved it but no, - still happens - anyone else have this problem ? (p.s. - have 46 notifications re-appearing at the moment!)
Has anybody found a way to do this? I too would like this functionality. I have tasker installed and thought maybe such a task could be created but I can't figure out how.
First, you revived a 1 year thread. Second, you have clear button. Why you would want an app for that?

First off, the last post was 6 months ago so I consider this a 6 month old thread not a 1 year old one. Second, revived thread = searched......something we all encourage here on xda. Third, what is the clear button you speak of? Is this a one click solution as was the point of this thread?

Yeah, the built in android notification clear button. Ob the status bar
Sent from my LT26i with Tapatalk 2
With that method you still have to open the notification bar before you can clear them.....2 steps.
The desired function is a one click solution. Like a widget you can place on your main screen you can just click to clear.
Why would this be desirable? Some of us get a lot of notifications and have very large phones. It becomes tedious to use one handed, i.e. to stretch your thumb to the top of the screen, drag the notification bar open, and click the upper corner clear button........especially when its a notification who's content we already know.
Is it a big deal? No, but there is many widgets out there that provide practically zero functionality while this one would actually do something many people could use.

+1 on this
on large screened phones like the Note, it's a major pain in the ass to reach all the way up to pull down the notification bar with 1 hand. There are workarounds such as installing Go Launcher and using the built in gestures to help pull the notification down but it's still a 2 step process to swipe down and click "Clear".
neeeedd
rly need this app....becouse i can clean all my notification whit a simple gesture in my lockscreen, no need to unloock....i cant beleave noone created this app....in google play there is so much **** and nobody creates an application so useful ... absurd ..
Resurrecting an old thread because it looks like the new "halo" feature being developed by the Paranoid Android team will have the added benefit of clearing notifications without having to stretch our fingers to the top of the screen when using the phone one-handed.

New G2x user: simple question

Hello All,
New G2x user here, coming from vibrant world. One thing I noticed is it does not show the quick toggle icons when I pull down the notification bar. That was one very useful feature I am missing in this device. Is there any way to enable it?
Thanks for your attention.
You can flash cyanogen mod 7 that has it. Other than that I don't think you can.
Weapon G2x has it.

Thanks Guys. Not yet comfortable flashing new rom on this. Need to learn a lot before trying.
Thats pretty much a touchwiz thing the g2x runs vanilla android best way to get that is putting a rom on your phone

There's a free Market app called Quick Settings that will work in the notification bar. Another similar one that I really like is Quick Desk. It doesn't work in the nav bar, but allows you set a long-press or double tap to open an overlay window from anywhere that holds anything you want, short cuts, widgets, etc. so it doesn't interfere with what you are currently doing.

[Q] Arrow keys sometimes not displaying in default keyboard

Hello everybody! My first post here, even though I've been reading xda for a long time and you're great!
I've noticed that when I use some apps (e.g. Opera) the default keyboard is missing the last line, that is the one with arrow keys.
Any idea if this is by design and why? And how could I get it back?
Thanks!

This is because the app was not developed for ics initially so the three dots menu was not considered in the beginning. It's the three dots which take the space of the last arrow line of keyboard. Totally normal.
You will find the arrows are there in some sense application such as message, but not in some 3rd party app.
If you had rooted your phone, there is a mod which can remove the three dots. I have not tried since very happy about stock and afraid of unlocking through htcdev.

I see, thanks. I knew about the 3 dots issue and ICS, but I hadn't considered the relationship between 3-dots black bar and arrow keys disappearing! Perhaps, when the specific app developer fixes the 3dots black bar in his app, we'll get the arrows back. I hope Opera won't take too much time for this: when browsing that bar is really silly!
I haven't unlocked for the same reason as you. The Sense 4.0 is awesome for me too! I hope someone will eventually find how to get S-off, so we can root without unlocking the bootloader.

[Q] is there a way to move the toolbar to top of screen?

I was just curious if there was any way to move the bottom toolbar (both samsung pop up apps bar and the system toolbars/home keys) to the top of the screen? This would make writing crap on the screen SO much easier and less annoying! I'm on an official JB ROM but am, willing to flash a custom ROM provided s-note/multi-tasking/all other samsung software that made me choose a note over a transformer prime are available to install on top of the ROM.
My sincere apologies if this has already been discussed elsewhere.
Cheers,
Nick

That would be awesome, I pull up the notification tab all the time, it's super annoying.
I second this. Right now what im doing is to use gmd gesture control to hide the status bar whenever I need to do some heavy writing.

You could try a custom launcher, Nova or Apex or whatever.
Not sure if they have that feature, but they are highly customizable so try it...
gmd gesture control
Thanks VERY much for suggesting this gesture control app, problem solved!

Nick
