[Q] is there a way to move the toolbar to top of screen? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was just curious if there was any way to move the bottom toolbar (both samsung pop up apps bar and the system toolbars/home keys) to the top of the screen? This would make writing crap on the screen SO much easier and less annoying! I'm on an official JB ROM but am, willing to flash a custom ROM provided s-note/multi-tasking/all other samsung software that made me choose a note over a transformer prime are available to install on top of the ROM.
My sincere apologies if this has already been discussed elsewhere.
Cheers,
Nick

That would be awesome, I pull up the notification tab all the time, it's super annoying.

I second this. Right now what im doing is to use gmd gesture control to hide the status bar whenever I need to do some heavy writing.

You could try a custom launcher, Nova or Apex or whatever.
Not sure if they have that feature, but they are highly customizable so try it...

gmd gesture control
Thanks VERY much for suggesting this gesture control app, problem solved!
Cheers,
Nick

[Q] StatusBar Will Not Hide, ADW EX 1.3.3.1?

As stated above I am using ADW launcher and selecting the option, "hide taskbar" and it is not hiding. It was working perfectley until I flashed a new ROM and kernel combination. I tried setting the gesture up option to hide taskbar and it will not work either. I also tried setting a custom shortcut to close/hide taskbar but it does not work either.
Any help would be appreciated, I restarted my transformer, docked and undocked, re-installed ADW, cleared data...im at a loss of what I am doing wrong. XD

ADW was modified to not to hide the notification bar - that's one of the base principals of Honeycomb. And without that, ADW could not be uploaded with HC support to the Market.
I understand that, the bottom bar is what you are talking about. I am talking about the top status bar that consists of the "app drawer" button, the quick shortcut to change the wallpaper and a few other things.
Unless I am misunderstanding you, because I hve not recentley updated ADW and I ws able to do it last night before I flashed Revolver and Clemsyn's Kernel.

Haha I am experienced when it comes to android devices and rooted devices and I typically fix my own problems, but that answer seems like you didnt know what you were talking about or you were trying to up your post count....sorry if I come off rude, but can I get a real answer now? Or at least someone else who is also experiencing this problem?

Then you were expressing yourself wrong. The status bar on Honeycomb is the thing you call "bottom bar", while the so called top bar is the "Action Bar" - I could not remove it either on ADW Ex 1.3.3.1, and I could not try older versions.
I exactly know what I was talking about, and yes, you did come off rude, telling me that I'm the stupid because you used the wrong term. My answer was a real answer, and it is not my fault that you were thinking another thing than the one you said.
The Action Bar can not be removed AFAIK, and I don't think it's a big problem. Try another tablet-optimized launcher, what can be edited more likely to your taste, that's the only option I see for your case.
PS: BTW I don't really care about my post count. It doesn't really describe the user, the biggest idiot can have two thousand posts, while a good modder can have a few. I'm not really a talkative type, and I don't really visit XDA (my phone is mostly supported at MoDaCo, so I was spending time there).
Sorry if I did not express my question cleary, but if you used ADW that is how it refers to that "top" bar, and I tried to edit my post quickly after realizing it appeared rude...somehow you read it within the 2 minute window I took to edit it -__-

Yep, I usually reply fast. I couldn't try ADW Ex when it had the old support, so I can't say anything about it, it's just that that very function does not work.
...................................
ThEiiNoCeNT,
There is a way, unfortunately not permanent, to hide the top Action Bar in ADW EX:
1. Press the "+" sign (or long-press) to add an item to your Home screen.
2. Select "Launcher Actions" from the menu.
3. Select "Hide/Show Action Bar" from the list of actions.
This will put an icon on your Home screen which will let you hide the Action Bar.
This setting should "stick" until you turn off your tablet.

Eric

[Q] Hide System Bar on ICS?

Is there a way to hide the system bar?
maybe something like THIS?
+1
Love this idea
Try the link below for the apk........... i havent tried it on ics yet
was just going to post up as an attachment but its not frickin working on the ics browser
http://ppareit.github.com/HideBar/
it is not working for me
me either - sorry guys
From what I understand, Google pretty much locked it out completely, so it's impossible at the moment to hide the status bar. It's really annoying. :/
From the author of Honeybar: "*** Important note for ICS users: Honeybar is unsupported on ICS and will not hide the UI bar. I have examined the source for ActivityManagerService and it currently appears impossible to stop com.android.systemui"

Damn that sucks. I hope Google changes their mind or someone finds a way around this problem. I find it extremely irritating to use video and reading apps with the system bar at the bottom.
I guess I will stick with Android 3.2 for now.
There's a tweak for the Galaxy Nexus that remove the bottom bar entirely, and the person who posted it says to use ButtonSavior (on the market) to replace the soft keys. The newest AOKP rom also includes a feature to remove the navigation bar which I assume is pretty much the same as the bar on tablets.
The mod is over on RootzWiki, not sure if I can post links to it, or if it will work for the TF or could be adapted for it.
See, it's things like this that make me wonder. Why in the world would google, or anyone, lock things down so much that nobody can change anything? Disabling the status bar in honeycomb didn't do any harm. I never heard a single complaint of a bricked tablet or software problem because of disabling the status bar.
Yes!!!
Team EOS has the option the hide the system bar in an easy to use manner.

Where? Searched for "status" "system" "bar" "hide" in varying combinations as well as individually. Could you point me in the right direction. TIA.
From looking around the framework-res etc what i have seen that ICS is based on a theme called holo. Now if we could modify the framework-res and strip the black and make it transparent it should be able to be done. Decompiling it has been no problem however I am too new at themeing to provide any definite answers to recompile framework-res as i have tried but it just will not register as a proper apk. There is one issue with that however, the holo theme is involved with almost everything to do with the system. Example backgrounds for the menu system and the onscreen keyboard and a pile of other stuff plus the assorted icons would still be present back button home apps button clock and wifi.
All the edits were because my cursor diappeared.

It's part of the ROM. They don't appear to have a separate app to hide the system bar, so we have to use the full rom for now. It works the same way pre-ICS Revolver did.

This works perfect on my A500 running ICS 4.0.3 rooted using live wallpaper - no issues whatsoever, thanks for the tip! Also really liked the gestures part of the whole thing as I can make apps launch from anywhere and probably won't even use the status bar much at from now on.

[CM9][APP]FloatNote - Simple note-taking app in a floating window for the Galaxy Note

I've been playing around with Mark Wei's splendid http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688531StandOut library and thought I'd share one app I've been finding useful.
It's very basic and very beta.
FloatNote v1.0.4b
Edit:
Thought I better provide some info
This app is very simple. It floats on top of other windows and lets you scribble notes or little sketches.
I wrote it for me and my phone so I know it runs okay on a Galaxy Note under cm9.
It's written for the galaxy note stylus so pressure increases pen stroke width and the side button gives you the eraser.
Select ink colour by swiping your stylus along the rainbow thing on the titlebar (the title text shows the selected colour). Click the sidebutton when touching the rainbow to return to black.
It autosaves your note and autoloads it when the app opens again.
Resize the window with the triangle in the bottom right corner.
I'm using the android native API so it may work okay(ish) on other devices. If it does, let me know.
Enjoy...
Nikad
Latest Update:
Version 1.0.9b
Changelog:
Major rewrite - had to do away with Mark's standout library and reimplement some of its functionality.
Hide and restore from the notification bar
Share note with other apps, email, etc
Saves position, size and pen colour.
Lots of bug fixes and improvements in performance/reliability
Important:
This app requires API Level 14 or higher to detect the stylus so you need ICS.
There are known issues running under Touchwiz so stick with a CM9/CM10 variant.
Know to run okay on the Galaxy Note International, I717 and the HTC Flyer.
If anyone runs it on other devices I'd love to know!

No quick launch yet, sorry
If you've ran the app already, you can launch it from your recent apps. But...
Improvements in mind include being able to hide the window and then show it when you click on the notification (I had this on an earlier alpha and just need to add it back in).
Multi-page note: support for more than one page.
Share note (with whatever).
I'm not going to go too heavy on functionality though. The idea was to be simple and uncluttered.
Thanks for you interest...

New version on its way. Just going through last testing and tweaking so maybe tonight/tomorrow morning.
Ended up doing a major rewrite just to provide a small amount of additional functionality. But it's all good! It even ended up smaller.
We now have an app that will hide and restore from the notification bar, can share the image with other apps and loads of reliability improvements.
I haven't had a chance yet to run it on other devices or on stock roms so all I can say is it works on the Galaxy Note under CM9.

I'm glad you like it. Thanks.
If you're on a call, just pull down the status bar and click on the notification. It's a bit of an illusion that it's "hidden". Really the app is shut down and relaunched when you click the restore notification.
By the way, I see you running a stock rom. Does TouchWiz not cause problems with FloatNote?
Thanks again for your interest!
Ok. That makes sense. I can restore it from the notification bar if it is hidden.. only thing the app must be up and running before that..
I do not use Touichwiz when there are great lauchers namely Nova these days.. It has been some time since I went back to TW
I use float to be called in one of the gesture of NOVA which is great. You would do a scrolling option on the screen if possible. That will help me add longer notes rather than extending the window,,
Thanks. :good:
Working great on RocketRom v10!
Having an issue parsing the package.
Will try again via desktop soon.
Good work!
I love such stuff
EDIT:
Sorry!
I was half asleep and didn't see that it is for CM9.

[Q] Swipe to launch?

On iOS, I can swipe the clock on the statusbar which I set to automatically open the App Switcher.
I've been trying AutomateIT, Tasker, and a few other Status bar tweaks but I haven't been able to find an app that will do one simple thing - when I swipe/tap/double-tap the clock or somewhere on the status bar, it should open the "Recent Apps" dialog (so I don't have to press that flimsy button)
Can anyone recommend an app, or how to do it in Tasker?
PS: I've been trying Tasker all day, and this is the last thing I need it to do, but no joy!
What phone do you have ?
By "App Switcher" do you mean the Recent Apps function that brings up apps still in memory ?

Ah yes, sorry. That is what I meant.
I have a Galaxy S3, rooted with Resurrection Remix 3.1.4 .
Actually I was able to achieve what I wanted with GMD Gesture Control (best 6$ ever spent!). So a different question now, is there a way to get it to monitor for gestures on the lockscreen? Prior to me swiping or doing my pattern..
Thanks for your help!
You can also access recent apps with a long press to he home button by default. With a launcher, you can come figure it to vice-versa.
I think several launchers also give you various new icons and swipe features.
Lock screen? I don't know. I might look into something like Widget Locker, maybe.

You can still manipulate things like transparency, height, width and colour with the app so its pretty good if you want that too.
Personally hate the speaker chin and button combo, wish they went with the HOX set up. Used to using pie now anyways.

Does anyone know how to keep the stock navbar icons with this GMD Auto-Hide app? I like the app but don't like the buttons it uses, even when you choose the "HTC" option under themes. They just look ugly compared to the normal stock navbar icons.

You all realize this is "immersive mode" in android. The buttons only hide when they aren't needed. Simply swipe where the NAV bar would be and the icons come back.
Not to thread jack... but I'm currently using Ultimate Dynamic Nav bar (see this thread on XDA: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2270198).
I find it more flexable (you can set your own keys, have up to 7, multiple themes, multiple behaviors).
Best feature? I have a button dedicated for screen off, and when you long press it, it opens up APM. I also have a menu button which launches volume control upon long press.
An alternative that works on the M8.

In the options menu, you need to select "Keep trigger at panels side" as well as "Keep panel on right". Then you can swipe on the right when using the camera and it will work.
It is a bit confusing, but if you don't have those options selected, when in the Camera you need to swipe from the button to open the buttons.

Like this, seems to work well. Would be better if it could be set on a per app basis, to keep them visible when running certain apps.
All of you do realize that 4.4.2 has "Immersive Mode" that lets you hide the Status Bar and/or the Nav Bar until they're needed, right??
ALL of these special NavBar apps and whatnot are redundant.
