I want to get into the tablet PC scene so I'm looking for a good quality tablet that'll last me for a while (at least a year), but I also plan on rooting it and installing custom ROMs.
I'll be using the tablet for;
Web Browsing
Youtube
Reading Manga/Comics
Watching Videos (eg; TV shows, Movies, Home Videos, ect...)
Listening to Music
I would like a 10" inch tablet (or higher) but I don't mind if it's smaller (nothing below 7" inch please).
My maximum budget is £200.
you could try purchasing a coby kyros tablet i use to own one and it has great support from devs including ways to add the original android market, rooting and custom roms (including honeycomb).
BTW the size is 7inch im sure there are 10inch too
I got Viewsonic GTab couple months back for $199
Specs: http://www.viewsonic.com/gtablet/spec.htm

Hi - A friend of mine is looking for a budget tablet (< £200) for his son.. he doesn't know anything about Android and has asked for my help.. !!
I've never researched the low end of the market - but having looked around tonight, there is so much choice that I don't know where to start!
He doesn't really want to spend more than £200.. I want him to have full App Market access (not some limited proprietary app store)... Ideally Honeycomb with plans confirmed for upgrade to ICS...
Does such a thing exist? If not, he'll sacrifice the OS upgrade element, and even drop down to Gingerbread if necessary.
Thanks (in anticipation).
First thing: Honeycomb is only for Tablets.
Second, the only phone that I know that almost reach all what he want is Xperia Mini/Mini Pro.
He wants too much for a too low price, I think.
EDIT: Forget it, I tought it was a phone.
Maybe the Acer iconia a100. Pretty good tab if you ask me.

Either the Kindle Fire or Nook tab. They're both pretty good tabs at low prices - not sure about ICS update status, but im almost certain they both have honeycomb.
Easy
Nook Color, either new or first version. Throw CM7 on there, clock to 1400 and run circles around the rest for under your budget. Go used and save more.
Wait for the Asus 7", it will be smokin fast. Tegra 3......

Hey guys, looking to get a really cheap ICS tablet - original wanted to get a Ainol Nova 7 paladin, but found out that because of it's CPU, it is not compatible with most apps.
Wondering if it would be worth getting this:
512MB 4GB 7" Android 4.0 Capacitive Touch Tablet MID 1GHZ WiFi/ 3G Camera HDMI
(stick that in google - I am not able to post links yet)
or
www(DOT)ebay(DOT)com/itm/512MB-4GB-7-Android-4-0-Capacitive-Touch-Tablet-MID-1GHZ-WiFi-3G-Camera-HDMI-/160762504214?pt=US_Tablets&hash=item256e312416#ht_5492wt_986
Or if these chinese tablets tend to give problems.
What do you think? Are there any other tablets out there like the Novo 7, but with the ARM architect?
Thanks.
Depends on your price range, I guess, but there are usually HP Touchpads for sale all over eBay and you can easily run CyanogenMod9 on them.

I bought one of these, mainly for our 6 year old son, so that he would stop asking me for my phone. It runs great! Screen resolution is not the best, but good for what he does. Great for a reader, web browser, and email. Have not watched a movie on it yet. But, for the price, it's a good deal.
Asus models look very advanced. Have a look at their selection!
Hello Everyone,
I decided that 8 inches tablets are the way to go for pdf files. Sure a 10 or 11' has more screen real estate, but 8 inches tablets are more portable. Now, I narrowed down my choices to the Acer Iconia A1-810, Asus Memo Pad 8 and the Dell Venue 8. They are all 8 inches and very affordable. I must mention that I only have about $200 to spend, so anything over $200 is out of the question. I was considering the first generation Nexus 7, but a 7 inch tablet is not ideal for my collection of technical pdf files (o'reilly programming books, engineering books, etc). I know if I get the Nexus 7, I'll get tired of zooming in all the time just to read a textbook and more than likely end up playing games. I'm aware that due to my low budget, I can't expect a lot from those two choices. Having said that, what I don't like about the Iconia A1-810 is its low resolution and that it only has 1GB of memory. Then again, the original iPad Mini had the same low resolution (1024x768). The Dell Venue 8 on the other hand, has 2GB of ram and a 1280x800 resolution. The problem is that I have heard so many negative comments about this tablet dying suddenly or the screen having zero sensitivity. What do you think? Any advice? Thank you in advance and have a successful 2014!!
Another tablet you might consider is the Le Pan Mini. Its an 8" with a 4:3 ratio (or close to it). IPS panel with 1024 x 768 resolution. Quad core 1.2 GHz. Super thin and light. I'm getting about 8 hours at least on a charge. I bought one about 2 weeks ago for 129.00 at OfficeMax. They are currently on sale for 149.00. I love it.
I was strongly considering that dell venue 8 as well but they didn't have one on display and like you I've heard some negative reviews on it. Plus I've had 3 other Le Pan tablets and really liked them. Check out LePanForum.com for a good review and some pictures.

Well I broke down and bought a dell venue 8 (android). It is a great tablet. Screen crisp, clear and responsive. The tablet is very quick and the on board speaker is strong loud and clear. I've read the negative reviews but I must say it is a great tablet.

I would suggest Samsung tab 3 8 inch variant. It's a budget tab.

What do you guys think of the Nook HD+... (I wish I could quote the magazine which recently listed it as being around $130 + tax.) If its 9" or so, it sounds very doable. I'm not too pleased with my Kindle Fire HD which is around 7" I think (bought it in fall of 2012).
Thankfully, you don't always have to click through to a website in a Google search. It looks like Rakuten.com lists this nook as $139.
Not too long ago I was impressed by a review of a $40 tablet: http://www.pinterest.com/pin/375135843933067744/ The guy in the video didn't seem to be affiliated with the company at all so I was wondering what you guys think of dirt cheap tablets.
8" tablets may be a little more portable than 10-11" tablets but the 8-incher still doesn't fit in the pocket. To each his own - I now have a bluetooth keyboard for my kindle yet I still find it too difficult to work on, but it could be because of the tasks I accomplish.
Hey guys,
I just wanted to ask around and see if anyone has gotten any of these "Chinese" tablets. (I think most of them are made in china but anyways) I used to have a nexus 7 (first gen) but wasn't happy with the lack of expandability (storage and such). I don't really want to spend a lot of money on a tablet as I won't be using it much and the main thing I will be using it for is watching movies and shows on the go. These are either my personal rips, netflix, or dish anywhere, etc. These "chinese" tablets seem to have what I want as far as screen size, resolution, memory expandability and processing specs. The downside is there aren't many professional reviews of them and the ones on amazon seem to be from one end of teh spectrum to the other. The ones I was looking at are...
Ceros Revolution
Dragon Touch 9.7
I am also open to suggestions but want to keep it under $250. 9-10 inch screen and a res of at least 2048x1536 or higher. Thanks
I need your help in figuring out which 9-10 inch android tablet to buy. I am looking for a second tablet via ebay or Amazon around $200. Based on past experience with multiple tablets, in spite of all the pronouncement about android memory management, I have found tablets with 1 GB RAM laggy. Of late, I have loved using the 2013 Nexus 7 tablet (on kit kat and lollipop) and now would like to get a bigger android tablet for reading PDF text books. I am not fussy about getting the highest possible screen resolution. Right now, ASUS MeMO Pad FHD 10 seems to have the right specs at a very reasonable price, although some people have complained about certain apps not working well with the Intel Atom Z2560 processor. Can you suggest a few alternative choices ?
Thanks
