I rooted my phone A LONG time ago, and have never had trouble before, I dropped my phone in some water by mistake and tried to turn it on. I realize turning it on was dumb. I put it in uncooked rice for about two days and tried to turn it on, it didn't come on. But an hour or so later I felt the phone and it felt warm, so I tried to turn it on and the bootscreen came up, but it is just stuck at boot screen, it isn't even a boot loop it is just at the SAMSUNG screen, is this due to the water damage or a ROM?
If you can get to download mode I would try to go back to stock. That might work.

That's actually what I was thinking, but I am going to try everything else until I resort to that.
If your contacts and such are backed up to Google then Odin back to stock or hemidall will be the only way

And if that doesn't work then the water might have damaged some internal hardware

I actually think it is the water damage now because I tried to plug it in to see if it was the battery and now it won't turn back on.
^^^^ dman ur the man!

...unfortunately it's almost guaranteed to be water damage.
Did you try to open the phone and see if there is some rust on the MB? I remember my old phone(Nokia N82) got dropped in a pool and when i dried it up it did boot up but my keyboard was not working. i opened the phone up and saw some rust on the connector. After cleaning it up it worked.

if the phone was on or sleep, and it was water logged, the battery would short for sure.
it depends on how long it was water logged.
the old battery is presumed dead or bad..the phone may still function if dried.
if you've nothing else,
take out the battery
dry out the phone...if you can disassemble as much as you can...use hair drier or low setting or some warm surface..let it dry out for a few days..(rice is dry and is moisture absorbing) any similar material is fine..ex: silica - water heater surface; heat exhaust..when you dont see any further moisture in the glass screen is a good indicator.
clean the connectors...
use a new battery.
it just may work
Had a Captivate...same thing...except dropped in toilet.....that may be why it smells funny when i use it...
But anyways....after it was in rice for a couple of days....I let sit for over a week before I did anything else to it....now it works just as it did before except the battery life is gone.....
I'd let it thoroughly dry out for weeks if possible....just like everyone else said...Wife drop her iPhone4 in our pool.....got it working again....but the battery was shot....

sustained some water damage on my nexus s.... so now the phone keeps switching back and forth from USB/charging to discharging. In the process, as it would when you plug it in, the screen would turns on.. This is terribly annoying as the phone never sleeps! is there anything out there that can remedy this??!?!? like turning off the USB, or an app that puts it to sleep and leaves it asleep no matter what??
or is there a command that tells the phone to turn on i can intercept?
edit* new rom didnt work so its not a runaway app.
thanks in advance.
The app screen off works for this problem.

Did you pull the battery and let it dry long enough?
I can't think of an app but if I come across one, I will let you know.
I dropped my iPhone down the toilet once, I had a similar problem I turned it off and gave it time to dry, it would be a good idea to put the phone in a bag/cup of rice because it draws moisture from the phone, I gave it a couple of days and it was fine.

I've read cat litter works well too...
NEVER use a blow dryer, it can blow the moisture in deeper.

Plus, a hot blow dryer will fry the components
Let it sit in a bowl of rice for a day or 2.....that will soak up all the moisture.....if that dnt work idk wat will

Ironically, the worst thing you can do in this situation is also the first thing that people seem to want to try: Turn the damn thing on. If there is water on any electrical component when you turn it on, that component will fry. For good. Do as others have said and as soon as physically possible put it in a bag of rice. Leave it for a few days. It'll be fine as long as you don't turn it on before its dried out.
Just wanted to repeat how important it is to take and leave the battery out whenever you have water issues. I've left my Sony ericcson phone soaked in a glass of water for four hours before (from snoozing) . Woke up, pulled battery out. Baked parts under low temp for 1 hour and all was dandy. Although you may want to stick to the rice method.

well my phone got wet on the back with a case, then i took off the case it and the back which was all wet, the battery was wet to and so was under it, i took out the battery and dried every thing and it worked, everything did, the speakers and buttons. so later today the phone just shut off and wouldnt turn on. so i thought it died and i tried charging and just the light would flicker on the top left of the phone. so i put it in rice for about 5 hours and i put battery back on and now when i press the the power button. the screen just turns on like u can see light, just a black screen. then it goes away.
the battery has some green stuff on one of the gold things that conencts your batteries.
So i oredered another battery off of ebay, do you think that would fix it?
Thank you so much for reading this, just post your opinion on what happend.
Sounds like the water fried something. Same thing happened when my 3yr old nephew wanted to ”wash” his DS. The first thing you should have done was remove the battery and store it in rice for 24 to 48hrs. Drying the phone from the outside doesn't remove the water that was sucked on the inside

yeah i would have done something right away but the phone worked right after.
have you tried to dry it with a dryer? sounds stupid but works!
Battery
Sounds like water fried something internally. I don't think a new battery will do you much good, but its worth a shot.
Yeah the water will have short circuited something. Best to pull the battery straight away and not put it back in again until you are sure that the phone is completely dried.
There's limited damage water can do, if there's no power.
In answer to your question, I don't think that a new battery will help but if you've ordered it then there's no harm in trying The green stuff will be were the battery connector has sort of rusted.

so what did you do?\
Hey guys. So I know a few things about this phone and have been taking pretty good care of it...only two drops from about three feet away from the ground. However, I dropped it in the toilet today. Now, I put it in rice for two hours and then got it out. I tried to turn the thing on, and it succeeded. The bad thing is, when I turned it on, before my boot animation ended, the screen flickered and turned off, and that's when I pulled the battery out of my phone and continued to leave it in rice as I type this right now. Is my phone busted permanently, or is there some hope?
You should have left it to dry like 24 hrs or more. You might have fried it. Let it sit at least over night and keep your fingers crossed.

Does the fact that a rice grain being in the headphone jack have to do anything with my phone screen flickering? I'm sorry, I'm being paranoid right now, but I'm just desperate to get any info I can to fix my phone up...I need it tomorrow....

That's called wishful thinking. I seriously doubt the rice grain is the problem.

I got a friend who dropped his phone in the water once. He did the rice trick but waited for more than 24 hours before attempting the first boot.
Now his phone works great except for battery issues. He has the Galaxy Nexus, so he can't change the battery easily. He'll just wait and buy a new phone someday. He just has to keep a charger near!
What about your phone? Anything new?
Well I tried this morning, the screen first started to go sort of whitish during the boot animation. Then, the screen returned to normal but remained unresponsive to my touch...I'm leaving it to dry more because I guessed that water was still near the screen, causing it to be unresponsive.
I've done this exact thing and the phone from it, mostly. I had constant signal issues afterwards and got rid of it.
The rice does seem to work, but.. you're supposed to take the battery out immediately and put it all in the rice to dry. 2 hours isn't going to cut it.
Ok guys...so my phone turns on and does function properly...problem is,,,the touchscreen doesnt work...should I put it back into the rice?

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but, sounds like its toast.. you can try though. Continuing to take it out of the rice and turning it off/on wont help.

You should have taken it apart and left it in the rice for a couple days as soon as it got wet. Now it really doesn't stand much of a chance. You screwed up bro.
You can still try though.

Agh...well I didn't have anything like a screwdriver available. Oh well, time to get a new phone.
My phone was in my pocket while it was raining hard. I turned it on and it worked (but it was flickering). Anyway, I took out the battery, sim card, and sd card and set it in a bowl of rice. I was wondering how long should I wait before I try to turn it on? And is there any other methods I should try to clean the phone?
Thanks!
You shouldnt have turned it on until it was completely dry. Wait for it for about an 24h + use the hair dryer, it might speed up the process. Good luck.
Btw, I really want to know, how is rice going to help?

It's dehydrated so anything in it's presence will have any available moisture drawn from there to the rice. It all has to be in an airtight container for it to work though otherwise it will pull it in from the air first.
I fell into my pool a few December's ago. Besides being 35 degrees I worried about my new phone before myself. I partially opened my case and put it in the oven without the battery at 195 degrees for a half hour. I only had some water marks on the screen. And I used that phone(forget which one Samsung flip) for almost 2 years with no ill effect.

a week or so ago, i was installing a wet screen protector ( not a good idea, btw)...anyways apparently the inside of my tablet got wet and it wouldn't go on. I put it in rice, let it dry for a day and curiosity made me check on it, only to find it had turned on on its own.....so i was most happy.....except now it wont charge....it either flickers between charging or not charging, or it says that its charging when actually the battery level continues to die...until of course now its completely dead.....:crying:
also the date reset to 1999 when it restarted
i contacted samsung support and i arranged to take it in to service....these are my question:
1. how likely is it that it's just the battery that needs changing or should i just give up hope?
2. is it possible that the battery is still wet ( this is a week after leaving it in rice for a while ) and if i open the back and take the battery out that would help or is it too late..
like i said the tad was working fine after it came back on...it just wont charge.
I'm trying to avoid taking it to service as much as possible, i already voided the warranty by getting it wet, and i dont want the repairman to take money from me for something that could be easily fixed. any advice would be helpful in me deciding what to do next
Your charge port could also have corrosion. Which would show symptoms like you are seeing.

I would take it apart remove the battery take distilled water and a firm brush and clean it if need be use a small amount of rubbing alcohol in corroded areas,im betting the battery is fine.
