Juice Defender "This item isn't available by your carrier." - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

When I tried to download Juice Defender from the droid marketplace it said, "This item isn't available by your carrier". The way I got around this problem was to download JD from amazons app world. I hope this helps someone with similar issues!

Did the same. Oddly enough, the beta will download though...silly at&t trying to limit people.

You can get it though amazon app store

just keep in mind the one they are selling is not up to date. i was able to get it by turning airplane mode on, clearing all data and cache in the market and suddenly no more blockage!

I'm having the same problem but this fix isn't working for me on QuikQiz ROM.
Which is too bad because it's 50% off right now.

Search the Market for "Juice Defender beta". It's free... I've been running the beta version without any problems. v3.8.9

[Q] Market problems with MR2

OK. So I waited and waited... I swore I wouldn't wipe and install MR2, but I just got sick of the reboots. I couldn't take it anymore and dove in.
While it was installing, all of them said "updating" except one said "skipping" or something to that affect.
Phone comes back....new splash screen, wiped, all is well, but when I start to download from the market it hangs up after about 6 apps have installed, and starts giving the "Could not install error, try again...."
I try again, no luck. 3G...no luck. Wi-fi...no luck, hard reset again, no luck. So I start sending apps to my phone via the online market, but of course it says about 20% of the apps I had on their an hour ago "Aren't compatible with my device".
I don't want to be stuck having to update through the computer market place. Any ideas?
Again....Hard reset twice, formatted the SD card, cleared the cache and history from the market place and Downloader several times.... IDK what to do. Any advice. (Helpful ADVICE! IN BEFORE DON'T FLASH TEST BUILDS!)
Thanx!
Are you rooted or no?
Not rooted. They are sending me another TB, but I am genuinely interested in what happened here. This is plain strange....
Ur not the only one with the market issues. Plenty of people, including myself, have reported that they cannot find many of their apps on the market. I'm pretty sure it's a bug in the OTA file and has something to do with the verizon signatures, or lack there of.
I just installed the Mr2.....I didn't have any problems...I have 3g,4g and WiFi....and all my market apps downloaded automatically and all works.....

Yeah. I saw some other people had market issues and didn't want to make a dupe thread, but "some apps not showing up" is a little different than "no apps will install or update at all".
I REALLY wanted the MR2 update....no random reboots has been awesome. When I get my AE I'm going to play it safe and wait for the OTA though.
So strange I could push apps and install from SD, but market....still.....nada.

Are you rooted? Have you had any compatibility issues from the online market? Do your VZW apps work?
I checked the hash of the file I used and it's not corrupt, so I know it can't be that.
No...I'm not rooted. And yeah that VZW app works....

I reinstalled and all looks to work very well now!
The market still says i'm incompatible with applications I have purchased. I hope that is fixed with the maintenance the market has posted on the site...
OK. So last night Google tech support sent me something weird which seemed like an act of desperation.
I had been told by many to log into and out of google talk several times and try it again. I had already done this and nothing happened.
Google told me to log into and out of google talk 10 times in a row or more. Sitting there in boredom and I gave it a shot. IT FIXED EVERYTHING!
My AE is here and it's going straight back. So yeah...log into and out of Google talk like you have OCD and BOOM! It's fixed!
on MR2 i have trouble finding certain apps. for instance i couldn't find 'paypal' i had to find similar apps, open that market entry, and go to 'related applications' and paypal would be there
I haven't experienced that. I am how ever dealing with FIFA and The Sims. I bought them on my EVO.... no issue. 2 new phones later, they are not showing up as "purchased".
EA and Gameloft have been "working on this" for months. Frustrating.
I'm still on stock Froyo, are you on a custom build or the GB leak?

My phone just randomly rebooted and I was all.... FFFFFFFfffffffuuuuuuuu........

Does Juice Defender block the OTA?

Yeah...basically what the title says. Wondering if running Juice Defender to turn off my data while the screen is off will block the ota
I doubt it. Juice Defender turns on your mobile data connection at a set interval to allow apps to sync and check for updates.

You can just uninstall it, it doesnt work after the update. In fact I cant find any battery minder that does work after the update. All I want is a mobile data minder and have tried several but none of them work and I cant find an answer why yet.

That sucks that it doesn't work. Do the battery life improvements make up for it at all?
cgaw70 said:
Not even close. I dont know what it is about this phone and me but if I dont turn off mobile data I can leave it in my pocket for 8 hours and its dead. With JD I could at least make it all day. And all im syncing is gmail. I have tried 6 or 8 others and none of them work either, the question is why? They work with other 2.3.3 devices, maybe another hack job of an update?

Looks like you might be running an app that doesn't give up a partial wake lock (keeps the CPU from sleeping). Use Spare Parts to look at your partial wake locks under battery history. If something is going across the screen, that's your culprit.
Otherwise I have no idea.
Juice Defender is listed as being compatible for 2.3.3. For some reason it keeps throwing error codes. It won't disconnect data when the phone is sleep.
My understand was the 2.3.3 has better battery life. That is certainly not the case for me. Its the same as 2.2 for me - 4 hours and done.
Same here. Juice Defender is not working after the update...
cgaw70 said:
Thanks for the tip. I DL spare parts and everything works except when I try to view battery history I get a force close every time. WTF

Hmm, that's not cool. You might want to grab a version off of a google search. The one in the market is a modified version of Google's free spare parts app that includes ads I believe.
According to spare Parts, stock GB ROM do not have battery history, so that explains why you are FC when attempting to view it
I dont remember if JD requires root, if it doesnt and your rooted, then root will block the update
FYI

JD kills my phone

I know people will either hate JD or love it. I am now one of those people who hates it... I tried it out yesterday but it killed my phone within 5 hours and I was using it less than what I usually do.
Now all I do is run 2g (edge) unless I need the 4g(glorified 3g tmo)
My question is, is there an app that turns my phone to 2g while on idle (screen off) and then back to 4g when the screen is on?
p.s. running nightly with faux kernel (cant modify cpu)
Juice Defender PLUS in extreme mode.
BUT NOT THE VERSION IN MARKET - unless they've updated it with the Beta version.
The Market version hasn't worked on the G2x since the update to Gingerbread. Search the G2x apps thread for JD. There's a link to the developers beta version. It works.

Yeah, it kills your data when the screen is off. Only allows calls and text. You set up the intervals you want it to connect to collect email and such while idle. Has a night mode that allows you to set the time from start to finish when data is off. I set mine from Midnight to 5 AM with data collect every 1.5 hours. Also can control you WiFi. Check it out.
If you are using stock rom or any version of modified stock Juice Defender will not be able to turn off data. Read here

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1070377
You need to use the latest beta version from market to work with stock rom.
And if you buy the ultimate version and select advance profile, it has an option to switch to 2g when screen is off.

Constant background data usage

The last few weeks my skyrocket has been eating through a tremendous amount of data even on days where I would hardly use it, I can't get to the bottom of it and I swear I've tried everything. Each day on average it goes through about 500 MB of data, I don't have syncing turned on, I've cleared the ram and active processes several times, even turned the phone off and on with no luck. I tried using the systempanel app to see what exactly is running and the only thing out of the ordinary I would think is the 'device management' process. My only guess is that it's trying to download the ota 2.3.6 update (currently on 2.3.5, not rooted), but since when I try to update it fails at 75%, it's constantly re-downloading and trying to update?? I still have the unlimited at&t plan so usage isn't the biggest concern, but it's absolutely destroying my battery life, 1% every 8 minutes with it just sitting in my pocket with no apps running.
Try disabling autosync first, could be a screwup with the new gmail update
How exactly do u know how much data u are using a day, watchdog?
Install onavo to see what's eating data.

I second that. I installed it on mine because my data usage seemed a little off even after I stopped streaming audio on a daily basis to the phone. If nothing else it's a bit of an eye opener to what uses how much data, and you can see if something is hogging data that you don't want.

I have already had autosync disabled since before this started happening so I don't think it could be an issue there.
I follow how much data I use by dialing *DATA# (*3282#) and I get a text saying. I've been doing this a couple times a day since receiving those "your data usage is among the top 5%" texts, and with how little I've been using my phone lately I knew something was up.
With no apps running, I'll occasionally see the data waves on the 4G logo moving for at least 30 seconds.
Also, I've come to the conclusion that it's not processor usage that is killing my battery because when I toggle the data off, I get great battery life. 1% every hour and 20 minutes.

Thanks, I'll give that a shot right now and see how it goes. Do I have to have it constantly running for it to work?
Yeah but I haven't found any negative from having it running.

I run Juice Defender Ultimate and have it set to custom and have it set to warn me when apps try to use data(it will ask on the first time if I want to enable/disable/nothing access) It will also shut down the data when the screen is off unless I specifically set an app for it.
It has helped me manage data and power consumption greatly.
3G watchdog will tell you which app / process is using the data connection.
Use a program called droidwall. By default it will block all data connections until u specify what to allow

Insanely high battery/data usage?!

I accidentally broke my Samsung last week so went back to my Inspire, good phone never had problems with it before. However I noticed that the Inspire's battery drained really fast now, where I'd have to charge it twice a day even if I barely used it. I assumed the phone was old and I just needed to replace the battery. Then a couple days ago I got a text from AT&T saying I had almost reached my 2GB monthly data cap (never even used over 300MB before) so I checked the AT&T data usage site and apparently every day my phone has been sending huge data files in the 30-60MB range multiple times a day.
I don't even know what these files could be because I haven't even downloaded any files that large. Phone is NOT rooted. Aside from updating Angry Birds, I haven't installed any new apps or added any new accounts lately, everything is exactly the same as it has always been. Restarted the phone a couple times to see if it was a fluke but didn't help. Had to completely disable mobile data for now.
Any idea what could be causing this? Any way to check exactly what files/data are being sent?
Check what has been using your battery up. In about phone-> battery. Whatever it is should show up there.

Cell standby, Phone idle, and Display are the top 3 things. Everything else is barely using anything.

What I would do is completely wipe the device and start over. I really can't think of anything off the top of my head that would send that much data. It's possible its just bugging out and the Qualcomm snooper program is staying constantly active or something along those lines. Or you could uninstall everything and see if it goes away and then reinstall stuff slowly and see if you can pin it down to one app. That is a lot of data though. Not to cause alarm but you might also want to check the possibly of some sort of hack or virus that may have infected your device.

Yeah that might be the best thing to do (just wipe it all and start over), shouldn't be too hard to import my mail settings and contacts, that's all I really need.
How do you check for hacks/viruses?
I hard reset the phone, however when I synced my contacts back after it automatically re-downloaded all of my apps for some reason. High data usage is still there. So either it's a problem with an app, or the phone itself is just messed up. The battery usage only shows cell standby and dialer using it up and it won't show which apps are using the battery for some reason.
same issue

This is the HTC Inspire 4G forums. I would strongly recommend that you post in the Galaxy S2 forums. They will know how to answer your question better than us users of another phone.
