I believe Moto also said no more locked bootloaders. And they've kept their word. Apparently operators can still lock the bootloaders if they choose, though - maybe that's what happened with HTC?

Wont HTC unlock the bootloader with their online service? I'm sure it'll take forever for them to post it up but they should eventually. Maybe I'm confused. Either way I hate locked bootloaders.

Verizon is not the same phone and you need to sign up for two years. I think it is a good deal, but that is me.

If you guys are still selling your phones, I would recommend putting an ad up on your local craigslist. Before I dove into the root world and unlocked my SG4G to its full potential, I posted an ad up to sell my phone for $200 and got all kinds of offers. This was about two months ago.
Sad to see many people moving away from this phone. Although I do believe it is becoming outdated, I still think its a great phone nonetheless. I'm personally holding onto it because I will be spending a year abroad and have already unlocked it for international use.

What makes you think that? Unable to activate on Sprint?

Because I don't want to activate it I just to use it for fun, but it connected to 4g and started to ring as I dialed a number. So I'm scared to as in what's going to happen.

You won't get into trouble. Just say you bought of Craigslist ans show some proof that you actually did. I've been through this trust me,

Sell it, tell the buyer that you got it from a friend that didnt want it anymore, but you dont want it either, so you decided to sell it. With the money you gotfrom it, buy an other NS4G.

What exactly do I do? Do i go to sprint and tell them I bought it off craigslist and show the text messages between me and the seller. I have the seller's Posting Id, cell phone number, and email address.
I want to keep the phone as a backup and learn from.

If I find a phone ringing even though I have not activated the phone yet, I would definitely inform Sprint about it if I was in your situation. If it were me, I would be completely honest about everything.
But the end decision is yours.

Okay haha, well I'm going to be honest to sprint ill inform them. I just want to be able to keep the phone, and have them deactivate it I don't care if I wouldn't be able to activate it. Bad ESN or not I just want the device as playing/learning tool.

Well just an update I called sprint and they said that it was deactivated on the 30th, but it did rinng but I cancelled it before person could pick up. 4g connects, but the guy said its more of a WiFi hotspot like and somebody nearby with it it picks it up.
But I'm all good so thanks for the advice this question is solved and the thread can now be closed by a mod

I'm sure you were joking, but to others, the rep would have absolutely no idea what a bootloader was. They take a lot of crap from customers already. Please don't mess with the salespeople. They couldn't make a change in the locked bootloader policy anyway.

The CS reps at the store didn't lock your bootloader, in fact the ones at my store all have their phones rooted and were hoping for an unlock as well. Blame the corporate bastards. The ones who see most of your money.

I bet those corporate bastards are gonna feel stupid now! I'd really like to see the look on the face of some of those people who implemented or contributed to the locked bootloader policy (at least for the SGS3). It took about a month for it to get unlocked, they must have spent more time among all their people to lock down millions of these phones, that's probably why Verizon released theirs last, later than anybody else, before they even knew there would be a supply delay, I now realize it wasn't a good, educated guess on the delay that all the other carriers had. I'd like to ask those immoral idiots "what ar you gonna do now, you a**holes"?
