Hello, i would like to buy HTC Sensation. I want great quality of camera.
I saw many patches, drivers and modded camera. They improve compression to zero. Is the picture quality really improved?
Can i ask for some pictures with a modifications?
Thank you very much.
I'm hoping for some positive replies to this, the camera on my XE is a big disappointment.
Bro..in my opinion...our smartphone is really smart for manyyyyy things...but unfortunately still not smart enough to replace real camera. I have sensation amaze camera mod in my ROM..but DO NOT expect Magic . it gives ok picture in good light and everything. Android is something else..this is my first one and i am in crazy love with it..all modifications..tuning..but if a great camera is what u desire... I don't think it has much to offer..
Pls can you upload some pictures in a full resolution? Thx

These were taken with the Stock sensation's camera. IMO its pretty badass.
There's also a thread here about photos taken with the sensation.

In my opinion, the close up shots are reasonable but those taken at a distance are very poor. At least that's the case with my XE. Here are some examples below.
Full res, cropped. This is a pic of my fireplace, no more than 8 feet away.
This is a close up pic, full res but cropped. It shows good detail.
This is a pic taken with my previous phone, a HTC Incredible S. In my opinion, the camera on that phone was far superior to the one on my XE. (Full res, cropped).
I agree with UKseagull, close up and bright light settings are pretty good, but low light and distance ones are pretty bad. i use stock camera. the biggest drawback is low light settings id say. but at least its pretty fast at taking the picture when u press the capture button on the screen
I am quite fond of the camera... It provides poor photos indoors though, outdoors it is far superior.
http://flic.kr/p/aCoxnU Here is the link to my flickr, quite a nice photo imo off the stock camera I believe.
These photos are taken with a modded camera?
The posters say they are taken with a stock (unmodded/default) camera. Note that the quality of the picture will also depend on the circumstances (close up/distant, dim/bright lighting, etc.) and relative skill of the user.

Originally when I bought my sensation I hoped it will have better camera but my first impression was the camera is crap despit the fact it 8 megapixel.
I have used HTC wildfire s and u won't believe it the camera on HTC wildfire s is better than sensation and I'm talking about is sharpness its colours and the quality and I noticed that sensation camera picks red as pink or some what light red also the sharpness on sensation is very bad even my hd2 had better sharpness and colors but not the quality also my cousin iPhone 4 camera which is 5 megapixel is better than sensation in dark iPhone is still much clearer then sensation but I guess you can't have the best thing in life

The reason why pictures appear worse than they should is the amount of compression HTC has implemented. It really deteriorates the quality.
I've just taken some pics using manual ISO settings and no flash, as a comparison. This is with the standard XE camera.
Shery4life the camera on the wildfire s is not better by anymeans my co worker has that phone and we both know that phone camera not that great. She always want me to use my camera when we take pictures. When I work with her again I'll take a picuture with my sensation and her wildfire s lol not even comparable lol.

I am specifically talking about the still picture camera.
When I compare the nexus S with other phones using the gsmarena photo comparison tool, it actually seems like one of the best 5MP camera around and gsmarena says "good 5MP snapper" and they say it's noticeably better than galaxy S.
On this forum(and the rest of xda) on the other hand I have seen many people say that the camera is mediocre. I want to know what do they mean by that? I understand since it's only 5MP you can forget about widescreen photography but how is it as far as image quality is concerned?
Do these people mean mediocre compared to something like galaxy S2 or you think it just doesnt cut it for a reasonably good daily snapper?
I have used galaxy S camera and I found it satisfying minus the lack of LED flash. Will I be satisfied with nexus S camera?

i LOVE my nexus s camera!
i think the people that rate it mediocre either dont know how to use it or take photos with a smudged up lens cover.

seconded. I like the camera a lot
The camera is awesome! we should rate it with objective perspextive. Meaning, do we take shoot with low light? Any camera will not get maximum rrsult out of it.

+1, I found it had better stills than my old Galaxy S. I compared it to an iPhone 4, and it seems to be quite a bit better for point and shoot scenarios.
Ya it really does look good in the gsmarena tool and the photos on flickr for the nexus S. Most people complaining about it must be the ones who think "the more megapixels the better" which is so wrong.
It wins and life and is a bawse. That is all on the Nexus S camera.
. It really is AMAZING though. The quality is outstanding
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
CyberGR Hybrid ICS (v6)
Eugene's Kernel (Speedy-7)
OC 1100/100 (ondemandx)
It's good, but my pictures would come out better on my old Epic.
Still a great camera though.
As the others have said, definitely a solid camera in comparison to many phones. Megapixels don't stand up to a good lens and sensor.
I'm afraid the people who rate the camera mediocre is because of lack zoom that is instead absolutely useless and destructive. I'm really happy about the camera and sometimes pictures are better of the digital compact camera (Panasonic, 4 years old) my wife uses.
IMHO, its good for indoors but not THAT impressive for outdoors, dont exactly know, i also went for a comparison between the pics taken running CM7 & stock ics. i went to a conclusion that cm7 camera pics were far better than ics(dont exactly know the reason).
maybe the focused-preview and the camera shutter are not calibrated?
anyways..i will rate it 8/10.
I think the camera is great, especially with ICS.
tapa tapa tapa
I just got a nexus s 4g I have an epic 4g touch and the picture quality is good on the ns4g not as good as the e4gt but its really close I like it.

IMO, when taking still pictures, Nexus S' camera is on par with iPhone 4's.
However, based on what I observed, iPhone 4's camera shots brighter pictures than Nexus S'. But still I think Nexus S is one of the best 5-megapixels shooter.
A picture is worth ... well you know the rest.

I find it really goog for a phone camera.
Picture with flash are sometimes too white for me.
It is obviously not as good as SGS2 & iphone 4s, but still fine for daily pictures n videos. No complain at all!
I have never found a phone camera that takes as good pictures as a cheap, decent digital camera, though SGS2 comes close. For outdoor/long shots, the NS is acceptable, but with closer objects the noise is really noticeable.
I used to have a Nokia N95 and I think it had better camera than NS.
hi guys,
I'm an android no0b ... soon fix that problem though.
anyway here is my situation and question:
Does the phones with the 'Bad Screen Issue' take the same quality pics as the ones with the Good screen
I love to take pics... my old nokia 3.15mb cellphone take great shot, I simply love cellphone that take great pics... but
I might be getting a used a mytouch4g (rooted still on froyo) [decent enough price (well as decent as living in Jamaica goes) ]
and from the first day that I saw the the phone I commented "oh i thought it would be nicer... the screen looks so bland... washed out"
the owner didnt even realize that it look bland, and said that its just looks that way , it doesnt affect the camera/pic quality.
I played around with it for a few minutes... my first experience with an android device... I AM IN LOVE WITH ANDROID NOW. but I still could not get around how bland the screen showed..
he only had it for a week before and didnt have much experience with android either.. he got it from someone b4 ... and all he knew is that its rooted.
I really like this device, and checked around online and was shocked to find out about the 'BAD SCREEN ISSUE' , and first i say some comments where persons said that they first say it after the rooted their device and a some1 even said that the unrooted their phone and the issue went away..
but that to this forum and youtube and realized that is a real hardware issue literally a 'BAD SCREEN' most like TFT vs a SuperLcd issue. ( right ?)
I still purchase it from him, and i said the the price is pretty sweet...
i know only know two person who own the mytouch/glacier and I asked them to send me a sample of pics that they took with their phone... just to compare camera quality. In fat hey did n't even know about the BAD screen issue (fortunately for them their devices are ok) ...
I took some pics with the one that i would be getting and I must say I am disappointed ... the pic when send to my pc looks just as washed out and bland as on the phone screen. i seriously doubted that the screen would affect the camera quality.. i may be wrong though.
I am not considering not to buy it... just because of the bright/washed out screen... but it not likely that i'm getting another decent Android phone for any where near this price again.
So guys I'm asking
.1) Does the phones with the 'Bad Screen Issue' take the same quality pics as the ones with the Good screen
.2) (if the forum allows it) some of your guys with the 'bad screen" phones upload your pics so i and have a better judgement of the camera quality. Prolly the camers secsors are determined by th e screen output (?)
.3) If u think that think that unrooting/rerooting will help the camera issue ( yeah unlikey )
4) If updated the android build / ginger bread or cm7 or so would improve the camera quality.
thanks in advance.

sadly I can not answer that question, as:
1) I did not check (dont know how to as yet), I am assuming that it at its default setting
2) the phone is not currently in my possession ( prolly not for the next two days) .
once again thanks
The menu button (second hard button from the left) will bring up settings. Check Resolution. I've noticed that pictures in lower light aren't too great. Remember though, its a phone with a camera. The camera is, at most, second.

The LCD panel and the camera picture quality are not related. The good/bad screens basically refer to the two vendors HTC sourced for the MT4G's LCD, with the good one being the Sony S-LCD and the bad one being manufactured by Sharp. The differences between the screens lie in their contrast, color rendering, and off-axis viewing angles. There are some theories that the differences are not actually caused by the screen, but rather by the digitizer, but unless the digitizer was replaced, the screen and digitizer seem to go hand in hand.
The camera on the MT4G simply isn't that good. Unlike the camera for the Amaze, I've never read of an editable image compression setting for the MT4G's camera, so I'm inclined to believe that one doesn't exist.

I had two mytouch.
One good.one bad.
I have to say the cm7 camera from tdj's 12/30/11 cm7 Kang took some great pictures.
I tested every camera option available(alot of basketball/baseball games),and for some reason that Kang was the best as far as cameras.
Should it have been different? I do.t know why! Cant explain it!
Those pictures were crisp and clear.
I sure I posted a pic in that thread to check it for sure.right around new years.
Found the picture.posted it above.
On both phones the camera was super bad.

I was not impressed with the quality of the pictures from the MT4G before it died. The outdoor pictures in daylight still had significant compression artifacts, soft focus, and undersaturation. Not natural saturation. Undersaturation. Blacks weren't black. Indoor pictures with incandescent lighting were just dreadful. Honestly, the picture quality was comparable to my Motorola RAZR2 V9x with an extra three megapixels.
Lol.haha.its a phone.its a 5mp camera.

OK folks, move along, nothing to see here. I hate it when people cover up their retarded mistakes, so I will leave mine out here for any interested parties to see.
Has no one else noticed, or is it just not a big deal to anyone? The Sense camera only takes 3264 x 1840 images! That is at the "8MP" setting!! A simple plug-n-chug in a calculator nets you 6,005,760 pixels, or 6MP, not 8.
A quick check in CameraZoomFX shows images being taken at 3264 x 2448, a much more honest 7.99MP (Which I will call 8 ). Does this not upset anyone?? That rapid-fire shutter was one of the camera's biggest selling points for me, but I don't want to take pictures that are pre-cropped!

if you explore further, turn off widescreen under camera options and you get the same 3264x2448. camerafx doesn't do widescreen photos as far as I know.
Or what the guy above me just said

I knew about this...I personally like widescreen. It wouldn't be so bad if they didn't blatantly lie to us by saying that the widescreen setting is 8mp.
Has anyone compared the two settings and notices a difference in image quality? this def explains the smaller picture files thought. I never 'really' thought about it until now.
they need to remove the 8m next to the resolution. thats bull
Sample Pics - Low Light
Real quick comparison showing the differences between the "Widescreen (Fake 8 MP)" mode vs "Normal (Real 8 MP)" mode.
Only editing done to the images is a crop overlay.
Shots taken in my living room that is mostly dark with one lamp bouncing light off the wall. Also manually set the ISO to 200 & 400 for comparison (auto ISO is setting crazy high values and degrading the photos immensely).

HTC is probably deliberately setting the ISO high on auto and trying to use the LED flash when ISO cannot get sharp 4 fps capture, I'm guessing their logic is that a noisy photo is better than a blurry mess, seeing as how most people will only use it for uploading to Facebook, they won't be able to tell the difference once FB's compression mangles it anyways.
I didn't find it for a while either... Just a crop, kinda annoying actually. It's awesome to shoot with the screen full, but you're just throwing away pixels.
Off topic a little, but still camera related. Has anyone noticed that if you set you screen brightness to low, open up your camera, take a pic, hit your home button and the darn screen is all jacked up to the brightest level. Is it my phone, a setting or normal?

Read your post twice. Still desperately trying to find a sense in it that would justify opening yet another camera thread. Camera still superb at good conditions. And really crap at lowlight and fast moving objects. Shutter speed is pathetic. ONEs video/sound recording also way better. And I tested both for weeks. They are both very very different!
I think Samsung could do better camera. In low light conditions it is crap, shutter speed is still very low and on 1080p videos you've got tearing smearing with picture zoomed in.
You know, low-light (especially with motion) is the weak-spot of the GS4 camera but we have plenty of examples of high shutter speed images in the various camera threads.
Captures of hose water, kids jumping and so on are "frozen" as long as it's medium light or above.

My low light experience with the S4 is superb. It's able to capture, in night mode, even pictures made in a dark room.
Anyway, use the flash if you in a dark place
I would agree, the s4 really has got itself a very good camera. Im an outgoing person and I take most of my photos in high or medium lights. Its very seldom that I would take pictures of something or someone in low lights. I would use a flash if i really want to capture them with as much detail as possible.
Heres my very first shot of my s4 after i got it out of the box. It was very cloudy thst day. I cropped the fountain area only.

All cameras are useless in low light unless you can control the shutter speed and keep the camera stable. Even high end Cannon or Nikon cameras need a good flash or a tripod to get good results in those kinds of conditions. If you have unwanted motion in the framing then it's game over. At the end of the day, if you can't get light through the lens and onto the sensor, you can't expect to get good pictures. There are dirty tricks that can are employed, such as a high ISO speed, merging images, or a large low res sensor, but at the end of the day you're still making sacrifices with the image.
This low light camera business has become a proper skit for selling smart phones.

The M8's 4up camera is not nonsense at all, in fact if you don't look at the resolution, it's one of the best performing phone cameras. The E8's camera is not the best 13mp sensor out there, but it performs really well because of HTC's Image Chip 2. That makes it insanely fast. It's results are comparable to S4, and the speed makes it better. I don't know about G2 though, never seen it.
so at which resolution it can take photos in 16:9 and i have in reviews that it does have a yellowish or pinkish tint to photos.is it true? thanks in advance

It's around 10.5-11mp, I don't know the exact resolution. You have the option to choose between the rations 16:9, 4:3 and 1:1. But it doesn't mention the resolution separately!
Also, there are no yellow/pink tint in the pictures. The come out really well in broad daylight, as good as any picture can get. In dark conditions, it's decent, but not as good as the ultrapixel cameras.
Good Pictures !
These Pictures look great ! I am thinking about getting this phone.

Better pictures with Google Camera?
Hey everybody, could some owner of the E8 test another camera app like the Google Camera on this phone? Is there a better picture quality especially in low light conditions or is it the same quality? I´m still not sure if I should buy this phone from a HK-based shop, in european countries the E8 is not available. Thanks a lot for any answers.

To me it's the same quality - the camera is still bad in low-light conditions. You can use HDR to make pictures look a bit better though.
@crystal_ball: Thank you. Hmm, sounds not very well. I´ve now the HTC Desire Eye, it has the same camera specs than the E8. Often the picture quality looks better when I use Google Camera instead of the HTC camera app. I also think that the picture quality of the Xperia Z2, which I also have here, isn´t better than the quality of the HTC Desire Eye. But after testing so much devices (my smartphone-age began with the original iPhone) from different companies with different OS, I simple guess that nearly all companies simple want to sell as much as possible and that they don´t really care about progress for the customer - in this case about the quality of the camera modules.
Compared to a Nexus 5, is it better? I'm really happy with the camera of the Nexus (incredible HDR shots with all the upgrades of the camera - not the original pics of the initial reviews). I want to buy a E8, but I'm afraid the camera is worst.

Compared to the Nexus 5, it's leaps and bounds better. Way faster, and better more accurate results. HDR isn't that great though, but when I last used a Nexus 5, it wasn't good there too. Or maybe I'm talking on the scale of AMAZING HDR shots, which my One S had. And hence.
I suggest you try a hands on and then upgrade if it meets your needs. Only one thing I can assure you of, it's nowhere near "worst".

The camera is better than the M8 (except in extreme low light conditions). The camera is infinitely better than that in the Nexus 5.. I think the only camera that is better than this one is the camera in the M8 EYE (Among HTC phones that is)..

I personally find the camera on E8 better and more consistent than the M8 Eye. The OV sensor is more consistent in capturing decent images compared to the M8 Eye which has a Sony sensor. This may be my personal view though.

I agree with you. Though my friend says M8 EYE is better.. I prefer the no nonsense camera E8 features..
