I want to know how i can downgrade stock KJ6 from samsung kies to KI1 and then root it, or if i can just root KJ6. I tried Superoneclick and some of the stuff on the other threads but nothing helped. Im obviously not rooted.
Make sure you have the most current version of superoneclick. It works.
Sent from my SGH-T959V
Did superoneclick fail? Have you downloaded a root check app from the market to see if you are rooted?
Sent from my SGH-T959V
Odin a modded kernel. You will get root and custom recovery.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Yeah superoneclick freezes and then crashes after "Starting adb server". I have Superoneclick version 2.3.2
And can you please send me the link and instructions on flashing the kernel.
Effort makes a difference on your learning and understanding.
Most current kernal from bhubdven:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20067583
He provides instructions in his thread using heimdall. Afterwards you will be rooted and have CWM and be on your way to a flashing addiction.
Sent from my SGH-T959V
And to help your understandIng there are multiple ways of doing everything. Don't get confused or frustrated reading threads. You have ODIN, Heimdall and CWM to flash things. Right now your options are Heimdall or ODIN until you flash a modded kernel that will give you CWM, which I think is the easiest to do and understand.

If you don't have CWM already, then yes. I did it that way and it worked quite well.

Im sorry im kind of a noob and i dont understand how to flash this through heimdall. Can you make a video tutorial?
I haven't successfully used Heimdall.
If that doesn't work use ODIN to flash modded KJ1 kernel from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=16160325
That will give you CWM and you can flash the updated bhundven kernal through CWM.

Edit: hell stephen is such a nice guy he might just do it. A little bit much to ask though I think.

No worries. They key is to not use the Heimdall-frontend program but rather the Heimdall command-line program. So here's what you need to do:
Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=20067583
Download Heimdall per instruction #1 under "Flashing"
- It doesn't "install" per-se, rather, it's a zip archive. Use Windows/Winzip/7Zip to extract it to a directory of your choosing.
- Once it's extracted, go into the "heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32" directory, then into the "drivers" directory
- Make sure your phone is plugged into the computer & it's in download mode.
- Run the "zadiag" program
- On the "Options" menu, select "List All Devices"
- Use the drop-down menu to select "Samsung USB Composite Device"
- Click the "Install Driver" button.
- This part might take a minute. Also, if you're on Vista/Win7/2008 and you receive a message about unverified publisher/drivers, install them anyway.
Use Windows/Winzip/7Zip to extract the "sms-T959V-KJ6-0.1.0-unsigned-update.zip" file to a directory of your choosing
- Use Windows Explorer to go into that directory, then into kernel_flasher, and then copy the "zImage" file into the "heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32" directory
- You don't have to copy it if you're comfortable with using the command line, I just said to do it this way as it's easier. Totally up to you.
Open a command prompt
cd to the "heimdall-suite-1.3.1-win32" directory
Run the command in step 5 under "Flashing" on the page referenced above.
Let us know if you need further help. Good luck

Not a video...but whatever. LOL. I can't help myself, man. I was a noob here too, once, and I feel compelled to help others that are lost. It's the geek in me I guess.
Hell I am still a noob. I think Heimdall gave me troubles because of the redistributables. Odin and CWM have been easier for me during my journey.
Here are some videos - see if one helps with Heimdall or do the method I suggested.

Ditto; I usually learn at least one new thing here a day. I'm just now trying to learn how to use Heimdall. I'm like you & ODIN was what worked for me then CWM once I had it installed. I'm trying to get out of the comfort zone so I have a better understanding of all of the flashing options & hopefully so I can help others. I plan on re-flashing via Heimdall command line later today to see if I can do it right. I'm surprised my phone hasn't blown up from me messing with it so much.
I really want to get into the kernel/OS stuff on it. Trying to find the time to get into it.

I see Kaik541 has a thread in Dev section for an ODIN version of KF1
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14782572&postcount=1
This is for those who want to flash and root from using the tar files.
I personally always remove my external memory and sim card before using odin. It is not needed as people will obviously post and neither is doing master clear. I do these steps just to make sure I eliminate any possible issues that can occur during flashing.
1) Download Firmware from http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-samsungusa.htm
2) Flash back to stock JF6 w/ odin one-click and did a master clear.
3) Flash Gingerbread KF1 using Odin (see image attached)
4) Flash fugu kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1010141 (I attached the zImage-root.tar to post if link does not work)
In the first post look for and select the download link in step 2: (credit to nikademus)
How to use:
1: Flash the stock rom
2: Download the image for Heimdall or for Odin
3: Flash it with either Odin or Heimdall
4: Boot once, it will install root and crash/shutdown (it is preferred to let the phone connected to usb so it does not loop boot)
5: Reflash the original kernel
5) Flash stock kernel (attached kernelKF1.7z) credit to lownox for helping me on that
6) Settings>Applications> enable Unknown Sources (AT&T finally got something right)
7) Install busybox from market
8) ENJOY!

I want to do that but I haven't learn how to do anything beyond deodexed. I also still haven't had time to learn how to add "extras" like extended power menu or additional lock screens.
If someone wants to PM the instructions or a link to do so, I'll be happy to do and have it ready tomorrow.
Do we really need another Odin guide? Write one on heimdall. It's open source and actually maintained. It also has a lower brick rate.

Honestly I have never used Heimdall and have never had an issue with ODIN. With that said I also have no objection if anyone wants to write up the parts for Heimdall here or by PMing me, I'll add to it the first post. I am not about to reflash again just to learn a new process when the old one has not given me a single issue.
made a deodex version, just dont know what to do with it
its not ready for flash or anything and its just deodexed using illdroid.
Doesn't matter anyways until we get CWM working...

There's really nothing new to learn. It looks and loads almost exactly like Odin. Not sure what processes are different when you push the start button though. I'm not pushing heimdall, just conveying what i've seen with it. I used once to load the last Andro3.

I have to use Heimdall if I'm to flash my phone. At home I only have access to Mac. I used a PC at work to root my phone (superoneclick was waaay easy), but I don't want to push my luck with IT and my boss at work.
Is there a list of Heimdall packages for the SGS4G anywhere? I've been searching and can't find them anywhere. Maybe Heimdall 1.3 is too new??
I am hoping to use Audiophile because it just chaps my a$$ that I can't play a stock music player (TMOUS) without it skipping out (paucity of cpu cycles I imagine). I very much appreciate the post RaverX3X put up about Audiophile recently. However he focused on Odin and I can't use Odin.
Any ideas anyone?
No one has made any firmware packages for it.
You'd only use Heimdall for flashing a stock rom base with a custom kernel and then you'd have to flash audiophile through CWM anyway.
I'd make a firmware package for you if I wasn't on my way out soon though. Maybe if no one else has done it when I get back I'll set something up for you.
Alright I made the heimdall package for you, I haven't tested it though, so proceed at your own risk.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/tea..._kh2_with_kg4_kernel_heimdall.tar.gz/download
Did it work? I want to know so I can post it on the original thread.
You gave some qualifications about using CWM before putting up the Heimdall package. Since this is my first time flashing and I only have my SGS4G so I am going slowly. I got CWM installed and backed up. I downloaded your file and have it on my Mac. Before I try to use, I want to be sure I know what I'm doing. So I'm reading a lot of XDA first.
You will be the second to know I got it installed and working (with me being the first obviously. )
Thanks for the help.
You actually don't need CWM at all. You'll wind up with CWM after flashing this.
Okay, I'll give this one a try. In a previous message you said that after using Heimdall, I still need to flash Audiophile using CWM. Is that still true? Is there any other software I need to flash with CWM?
You might need to flash my busybox_installer.zip but I think Raver may have included that in the audiophile ftw installer.
Well I tried but Heimdall could never see my phone. I can connect USB storage using the phone, but Heimdall can't detect the device at all.
I've searched XDA trying to find MAC drivers for the phone that might be better than mine, but I've not found anything yet.
http://www.glassechidna.com.au/products/heimdall/
Scroll down and find the OSX version (Heimdall suite 1.3.0). It comes with Codeless kext (aka driver). It should install libusb for you.
Hmmm, I installed that package. I do not know why kext didn't work. I know I have a system reboot since then.
Maybe I'll uninstall and try to re-install.
Thanks A Lot

Awesome, I'm glad it worked for you. I'll be making the Froyo portion of the heimdall package available soon in order to update my GB Starter Pack guide for mac/linux.
How straightforward was the install by the way? I'm still trying to get feedback from users.
I am very happy heimdall is working for you and you got the ROM flashed.
Very frustrated that I can't get heimdall to see my phone. I have CWM installed and I have the RootExplorer app working and I can see my SD card as a USB drive on my Mac. Is it possible to flash with just those three tools?
All the guides I see seem to focus on Odin or Heimdall. Do they do some magic that I can't accomplish on my own?

Sadly there's no safe way to flash bootloaders using CWM, which is the only reason we're using Odin/Heimdall. I can't diagnose the problems on a mac since I don't own one, but have you tried removing heimdall, restarting, reinstalling, restarting and trying again? Might make it work.
Thanks A Lot

ok read the first one and understood it pretty good , the 2nd link had alot of stuff in it that was a little confusing. this **** is way over my head. like i said i tried superone click on this stock gingerbread rom and it wouldnt get past step 7 so i guess i got alot more reading to do so i dont brick this thing.
Simplicity at it's best
The Infuse 4g is one of the simplest phone's to learn on in my book as far as rooting and changing rom's lot's of great rom's out there , If you really won't to get it done check out the Android Development section here on XDA for rooting , or How too it's pretty simple , you can even flash rooted rom's via Odin to save time in rooting it yourself , pretty easy , be glad to help ya out if ya need a few pointer's here and there , lot's of great people here on XDA that helped me out of the hard spot's , but good luck bro
thank you so much, i am gonna give it a shot this weekend. one question though i put a app backup on my phone so i wouldnt lose my cerberus app. after i do a wipe will i be able to get my app back. i know that sounds stupid but just curious.

Correction...the easiest way to root your phone is using qksters heimdal package of entropys latest kernel...deletes nothing on the phone only replaces the kernel with a rooted one
Download it (look in ISET page)
Run program
Put phone in download mode
Press flash
Let it do its thing, your phone will reboot and you will be rooted with cwm recovery (used for flashing roms)
*download mode required for both Odin and heimdal*
How to get into download mode?
1) pull battery
2) place battery back in
3) press and hold volume button simultaneously-don't let go and don't touch power button
4) while holding volume keys plug your phone into PC with USB cord
5) you should now be in download mode
You should see either a yellow triangle that says downloading or an option to go to download mode or reboot
Also Odin requires drivers from kies heimdal does not...it uses its own drivers which it will install for you...

I think it really depends on the computer...out of the three in my house 1 works with Odin (windows vista)...the other one works with heimdal (xp) and the other works with both...(xp/Ubuntu, xp both Ubuntu heimdal only for obvious reasons...)

But if he's just trying to root then he only needs to flash kernel...nothing else...
However if he's bricked then sure Odin will be easier as its all in one...

Odin vs. Heimdall one click will always be a matter of preference. In my case, I prefer the Heimdall command line because it gives me more control. I used it when I made the rooted Odin packages. As for which is easier, qkster's sweet Heimdall one click packages or the rooted Odin packs - they're both just about as easy as it gets, because we've already done most of the work for you.

It involves a little more than just flashing a kernel to root UCLB3, but I know what you mean. See the more involved method at this link for how to do it.:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=24935969
The Heimdall one click packages, Odin packages, and dman's earlier CWM package just save people the work required to root UCLB3.
But you're right, they aren't "how" to root UCLB3. It's just already done for you.

So far, other than the back and forth about who prefers one method over the other, it seems that this thread is on track to answer those questions. The good thing about the Infuse forum lately is that there are many ways to do things. To the OP: Get in there, explore the different methods and roms, and have fun. Good news is that it's really hard to brick this phone, so it's a good platform to try all that is out there. Bigjoe gave you a good start by pointing you to the ISET and Super Noobie Question thread.

Wow , XDA to the rescue you guy's rock , lol , as far as backed up app's in the infuse if you backed up to the external sdcard you should be able to just reinstall the back up program and your backed up app's should be there , but it doe's very deppending on what app you used to do your back up .
Ok so I (stupidly) tried to flash erikmm's mokeeOS. I tried to follow the directions, but I think I messed up somewhere along the way. The result is that I have a efs file, but it is corrupted, and I have a IMEI of all 0s when I format and flash the system, and I have a IMEI of DXD with weird symbols when I flash cm7 restore. So my question is, how do I get my IMEI back? I dont have a good efs file, but I do have a good nandroid backup. But when I try to restore it, it says e:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on system. So how can I fix this too? I'd also like to apologize to erikmm for being a dumbass and not correctly following directions
I suggest you use FB's [odin+cwm] gb ext4 starter pack and get back to stock.....this will not fix your imei but will get ur phone to a usable state that you are a Tad bit familiar with for starters.
There are ways to fix the imei but I'm not familiar with it for I have never had this problem...
I'm sure there's an easier way to do it, but when I flashed his Rom the first time, I accidentally flashed the efs-backup file twice instead of the efs-restore and screwed mine up. I got a little too excited to try something new I guess. But I ran the 1-click Gremlin remover and everything came back fine. Then I reflashed moKee correctly and all was right with the world. I have no idea about the last error you were getting however.
how do I go back to ext4? Becuase i dont think my nandroid is working since the phone is MTD now. And I cant use ODIN right now becuase my windoes pc isnt working for now, but I can use a mac to transfer files and stuff
I'm not going to hold ur hand....go look for what I previously mentioned in the dev section and follow directions...I know I'm kinda blunt and a lil rude but I don't have patience when people don't pay attention to the answers given to them...I will help you but you will have to read and pay attention to the instructions in the OP's of the threads
Sorry I missed the no computer part
Without a computer there is NO fix at this point.
One thing I've learned is never flash mtd roms without a computer available
I appreciate you helping, but I stated that I cant use ODIN due to my Windows computer not working, so Im looking for alternate solutions. Right now Im trying the Gremlin remover
Isn't heimdall a Mac program?
If so use the heimdell 1click in the dev section.
I'm not familiar with heimdall or Mac...
One click back to stock with Anton's kernel installed I believe bhund updated the one clicks. Then u can try ur nand restore

Heimdall is a Java-based program, which makes it mostly OS agnostic. It runs on Windows, Linux, and the Mac.
Ahh ty for that info
I tried doing the one click for heimdall, but it said error when claiming interface. What do i do?
I do not know...if only you were on a PC.....this would be so simple
Have you tried a hammer?lol
The only way to fix your issue is with 1-Click gremlin Remover or a Heimdal 1-Click. Your /efs partition will be there and all will be fine after you go back to stock.
To overcome the problems with heimdal, you might want to try this:
System Cleaner
However, in your case, you may not be able to do the system check portion. I would suggest, just downloading the system cleaner, reboot to recovery and flash it (Just follow Step 3 in the OP). It will probably soft-brick your phone, but you will be able to get into recovery and download mode which will enable you to flash the phone via heimdal...
i can get into download mode, but i get a claiming interfaceerror

That's not what i said... I said, Run the system cleaner. It will soft brick your device but you will still be able to get to download mode and recover it... Fix the error you are getting... God, why don't they ever read the entire freaking thing?

Just the way it is sometimes Thomas. Plus to a lot of us this is second nature but someone without the knowledge you have may easily be confused. Don't let it get to you. lol OK I'm done defending human stupidity for the day.
OK so I have this Galaxy 4G that i need to install an ICS ROM on it. So I installed the kernel using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223765
Which has CWM 3.0.2.8x. I am having a problem updating it and flashing roms. When I try to flash a rom, i can access the SDCARD just fine, but as soon as I choose a zip to flash and say yes i am sure, it says 'Error cannot mount /sdcard/rom.zip' and installation aborted. Then I cannot even mount the sdcard until I reboot. this is for both ICS and GB ROMS.
BTW It is on FroYo stock.
I think from this point you should start over from scratch. There's a heimdall one-click that will flash your phone back to gb stock and there's several others that will root and put cwm on it. If you've already got the Samsung drivers installed you gotta uninstall them and reboot your pc for heimdall to work.

Also I assume you have a t959v since you had froyo. You gotta flash gb bootloaders too

OK I was trying to avoid using a one-click since last time I used it it nearly hard bricked my phone. But which one would you recommend for going to GB with bootloaders and installing ICS from there?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498
This has all the one clicks and a pretty detailed explanation of how to use them.
Eollie's one-click would probably be the easiest if you're looking for a starting point to install ICS.
There it is lol I can never find that thread when I need it!

How do you nearly hard brick with a one-click? Some user error there for sure. So far in the GB starter pack thread both Lumin and eollie have told you to use the one-clicks. Now a few more people tell you the same thing. Exact this time you had to start a new thread to get the info. So use the one-click and stay on stock until you learn a lot more about flashing this phone.

Thanks for the link. I will use that one and hope it works.
And hechoen, I have had very bad experiences with one-click installers, so I was hoping to find a way around using one, but I guess there isn't. And I know a lot about flashing phones, but I have had the most trouble with this one, which ONLY has one click installers.
Sorry for going a bit side tracked but how can you fail a one-click? You don't even have to select anything, just plug and wait.
Odin is a different story though

If you knew a lot you'd know that you can pull the boot.img out of any Rom and flash that to get a newer version of CWM. You can flash them from heimdall frontend or make them odinable. So not true about just having one-clicks. The one-clicks where made for users to have an easier time not a harder one. lol It's all about how much you know. If you don't know much the one-clicks are the easiest way to proceed. If you know more than you'd never have to ask in the first place. So learn to embrace the one-clicks until your a little more knowledgable.
OK So I used the one click and it worked, i am on GB. But I can't get into recovery. When i am holding volume + and - and power i let go of power on the galaxy 4g screen and it just stays there. And it wont go into recovery. Thanks
WOW actually i just didn't flash the bootloaders. I thought I did.
I answered you in the other thread. But something else you can do is open a command window and type "adb reboot recovery". If you have the android sdk installed that is. I think if you hold the power button there is a option to reboot to recovery also.
