So i tried juice defender and i love it... Best part for me is where it turns off data when I'm not using it. However i have one problem. When i use up most of the phone's ram, like with multiple opera tabs or a game, jd is killed. The only way i can restart the service is rebooting. Is there a fix for this?

You can open JD and it should restart itself...at worst you should be able to disable and reenable it. To stop it from dying...are you running V6? If so, you might want to try some more conservative memory settings.

Hey guys, the longer I leave the phone on the less RAM I have.. I am down to a measly 62MB of ram at the end of the day.. I thought that android 2.2+ didn't need task killers? Anyone have any apps or ideas to help with that?

Don't use any task killers but if you need a memory helper def go with "autokiller" from market. Its free and will def free up some ram for ya.

Does your phone slow down? If it's not slowing down, don't worry about it. Apps stay asleep in ram and don't run, this just means they don't have to be reloaded and are saved in the position they are in when you left them... this is the pseudo multi-tasking. If it's not slow, don't mess with it. Mine runs down that low fairly often with no loss of speed. But you can adjust the minimum settings in autokiller as suggested above if it bothers you that much

Are you talking about compcache?
And my phone seems to progressively get laggier throughout the day but a reboot every morning seems to be sufficient.
Using autokiller with the optimum preset keeps me with 120 mb free and things still run fast and smooth. . .

Comp cache will be slower, and isn't necessary for phones with as much ram as ours. Swap is far different than comp cache, and may help some, but I notice no difference.

one thing that I do is use Titanium Backup to roll updates into the ROM. it hasnt caused me any issues yet that a reboot doesnt solve.
If you long press on an item in Titanium Backup...you get an option to integrate update into rom. Doing that will free up a small bit of storage, but for multiple apps it might add up for some people. My phone is smooth as butter running CM7

im running kg6 icbinb but i feel like im using it too much, i use it for music, work out for like an hour and text heavily and facebook and youtube... i tried juice defender but it made me loose my connection most of the time...
Juice defender turns off your data connections when the screen turns off, so that's probably what is happening. The paid version lets you maintain connections with specific apps you choose, but you may want to try other battery saver programs to see if there is a free one with app control.

Is there an app or setting that is in the hidden menu so that while the screen is off data is off... I know they have the setting for wifi but I'm hardly around wifi except at home, and I'm hardly ever home... which is why I would like to save as much battery as possible.

Its a free app on the market its ready to set up and will turn off all data awhile screen is off, and is quick to restore it when you wake the phone..

JuiceDefender does not work well with any stock based rom like Weapon. For stock based rom you have to use the new beta version.

Tasker can do it easily. There's really no reason to ever use Juice Defender, Tasker can do everything it can do and so much more.

Tasker is a great app but some people don't use paid apps and juice defender can do what the OP needed in the free app.. But if you don't mind the $6 and some change its a great app

Hey guys I would just like ppl opinion on the various battery saving apps that are available on the market.
Do you think they actually work? best apps(in your opinion) and best configuration to save most battery.
I have juice defender and and it always says that it is saving me somewhere around 1.6 but I'm not totally sure that that is the case.
I have not had it installed for the last couple of days and my battery doesn't seem to be noticeable y worse than when it was installed

I have stopped using them. I have think it depends in how a person uses their phone to start with. All of those options, can be done manually. I personally got tires of switching to different profiles for what I was doing. I haven't noticed much difference myself.
but, that is just my experience.

Yes well that's the way I'm going I think. They taking up space and memory on phone and not really getting any noticeable benefit from having them installed.

The battery on my phone is going iPhone-ish, I need one of the battery saving apps, Are there any decent ones yet?
I would try Bataria from the market. Its free, and doesn't use much resources to do its job. I think the best is to manually adjust different settings on your phone. Same results, nothing running in the background to do it.
I am using Greenpowe.
Battery apps are usually crap. The only ones that really work are the ones that modify how your phone's software works. And those almost always require root access.
If by chance you are rooted, I recommend SetCPU, Autostarts and Autokiller. SetCPU will allow you to set profiles such as throttling while the screen is off, which will save you a ton of battery. Autostarts will stop custom apps from starting with your phone's OS, which leads to less background processes. And Autokiller will ensure that you have plenty of free memory for less tasks being killed and restarted. That alone has the potential to make a huge difference in your battery life.

I totally agree.
My uncle uses juice defender, but I think it's better for the battery to manage everything yourself.

yeah I've been using Juice Defender. It does save some battery life.
If you have a horrible phone like mine, juice defender ultimate works wonders. My LG optimus m gets about 12 hours of life without it, and about 18 hours with it.

On my OG EVO I used juice defender plus and it helped out greatly. Saw 1.8x a couple of times. On the new EVO LTE I don't use a thing and it keeps going and going and going...

Hi everyone,
Did anyone have any issue with juice defender and wifi? Every time I turn on my screen juice defender enables wifi but the signal strength is shown as minimum. Problem is solved after a sleep (or a reboot). My setting includes juice defender to manage my wifi and my wifi sleep policy is set to "when plugged in".

Uninstall that app! Juice defender will cause you more headaches then you know! It causes all kinds of wake locks on your phone. Android has a fantastic build in task killer that monitors apps and kills them if necessary.

Very true.. Thanks for showing me the right direction on this. This app is way more pain than it's useful. You end uo micro managing anyway.
I found that I was draining battery partly due to overclocking (1350). Maybe I need to play with the governors more. Currently using pegasusq with sio on the io side.

Thanks. I'll try it first thing tomorrow. Does it add the hotplug governor to shut off one core? The one that I was trying out now is pegasusq, but I think I messed up its parameters a bit. I also gave hotplugx a try, but did not get better results.. Will try and let you know the results.

Don't use JD, it uses more battery life than it saves, or might just break even, it's a placebo. Use toggles to turn off 4g and wifi when not in use
i also used JD few months back. found it to useless in terms of battery life, though it shows battery life incresed x2.0 times. not using now.:banghead:

I must admit I was fooled by it for a long time and was impressed by its "300%" battery improvement. I finally un installed it and started using my toggles more frequently, and 3g is turned off on my phone unless I'm out and want data or I'm sending an mms, that combined with smart underclocking rules (screen off, and in steps as the battery dies) will get you a lot more battery life than JD or any other app will get you. I've heard tasker can be good to automate battery saving rules, but for me personally pressing a widget or dragging my status bar down doesn't require much effort. If you still aren't happy with your battery life, look into an extended battery
