I love the concept and the fact that the OP of that thread is making a contribution, but there are some small but essential steps left out that noobs wouldn't even know about. I think he is working on a more complete implementation. Until then, or at least to get a sense of what steps are involved, read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798

I have read and tried this method but I have yet to have success. I have uninstalled and installed Android sdk and drivers, but nothing. The last thing is to wipe my computer.

I have just complied this Step-by-Step guide on how to root your Desire HD.
I by no means created the root, I simply used my own and others knowledge to put this guide together to help everyone.
Hopefully this is more of a beginners guide so we can ease new Android users into a bit of coding rather than relying on Apps to do the work

hey evostance
why do we have two post? i mean adwinp already wrote one?
not saying your works unapperciated lol
could they not be merged to keep it all tidy? two posts that do the exact same thing in the exact same way?
anyways back to trying CWM

There was a lot of people asking how to do it since they couldn't figure it out from adwinp's post and any advice was getting lost in the thread.
I just put my own work into a new thread so it was easy for people to find
And this method avoids terminal or adb so is a bit more beginner friendly I was going to wait for the visionary update tomorrow but now thanks to evostance's guide I have permaroot on the day it was found/exploited/invented.

Yes and No.
I don't know if VISIONary will just be able to root one Kernel Version, or if it will be able to modify the wpx.ko file depending on your Kernel Version.
awesome recap of how to permaroot!
Made a mirror of it here http://www.logarie.nl/android/Desire_HD_Root.zip
UNROOT ?
Excellent guide
Before I permanently root my DHD I want to know who would I UNROOT if needed (just in case if I want to send it off for repair)?

I got to the step where I have to run wpx from the Gscript home screen and when I do run it I do not get the function error, all I get is a blue screen with the option to close it, Any idea what this means?
Thanks.

Are we supposed to have run VISIONary before we run the scripts? The guide PDF doesn't say to run it until after, but the original forum topic says run it before... because I'm getting that blue screen that does nothing.
Edit: Okay I got it, maybe prefix the part about running the Gscrips with "Open VISIONary, tick "Run on Boot" and then click "Root Now!" before you continue to running the GScript actions.
You need sudo access before running GScripts.
I have longed for this day for 8 days now
Thank you so much.
Does this mean we can now push/pull to /system/app?
worked like a charm

What happened to the one click root file that was one here just after the SNS 4G came out? If It still is out there can someone link it. Also, can I use that file with 2.3.5?
Thanks,

look here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1096384
It does work on 2.3.5 but it wiped everything including the sdcard so be warned.
Also read the instructions carefully. It is a bit more convoluted than I'm used to. Not exactly "one click", imo.
thats because a true one click is not possible with the way the bootloader is set up
Sorry for the novice question. About to get a 4th replacement G2X. Last weekend I spent a huge amount of time reconfiguring number 3. I have Launcherpro and backed it up to the SD card but the new phone would not restore.
Is there an easy way to backup all the apps and settings?

That requires a root, right?
Yes it does.
Yup. If you need to know how to root, check out my signature. Click the link that says "Rooted" and it'll take you to where you can root. The Superoneclick method mentioned elsewhere on the site won't work for G2x above 2.2. So just follow my link and you'll be good to go. And be sure to thank the OP that made the thread.
Thanks.
New (4th replacement) arrived and it won't read the SIM card.
If you have to flash a rooted rom to root, you loose your configuration. So, going from stock to rooted rom you are going to have to reconfigure. Right?

You don't have to flash a rooted rom to get root anymore. There is a root zip available.

I've tried several time to root my Droid Razr M with motochopper but it fails every time. I'm guessing the exploits been plugged. Is there a way to root this phone. I need to make changes to the tether so it will work with my tablets along with all the other cool stuff that comes with rooting. I found another app online but I'm not sure I trust it. Last thing I need is a bricked phone.

I am pretty sure you are on newest firmware, it would require you to use RSDLite to downgrade most likely, unless you unlocked bootloader previous to taking newest update:

Perhaps I'm doing something wrong? I extracted the zip file to the C drive as instructed. There are folders in folders and i don't know if I'm supposed to open those to the c drive as well or not. But I ran SamuriHL-downgrade and followed the instructions. But step 3 is to root with motochopper and it fails like always. It's not looking good for me.

That is the same build number you have listed in the post above, it did not downgrade it sounds like. You might try running it again, if that dont work I can try to help from here to get it to go through.
You want 98.16, not 98.18 as shown under system version

Build is now listed as 9.8.1Q-66 I read down the thread and someone suggested putting the phone in fast flash mode with instructions. Before when I tried to downgrade RSD Lite would flash real fast and then disapear. This time it stuck around did it's thing the phone rebooted with the new version installed. Problem now is I can't get motochopper to work. It keeps hanging at daemon started or something like that. I'll try again.
OK I'm an idiot. I did a factory reset just to make sure everything was as it should be and forgot to re-enable debugging. I'm now rooted. I did the protect root and I have to proceed to the next step but I have to take a break for now. I'll be back at it in an hour or so. In the mean time the phone is off. Don't want nothing happening. Thanks for the help. I think the part about putting the phone in fastboot flash mode is worth noting somewhere. This wouldn't have worked for me without it.

Hi,
I'm having issues with my OPO root. After unlocking Bootloader, flashing TWRP recovery and installing SuperSu, I installed some root Apps. The first one worked (gave permission), but the second App said I have no root installed, and the first one said the same. When I restart my phone sometimes it works but only for some seconds.
Hope someone can help.
