These appear to be the value phones of today. Basically I'm wondering which one I should buy. I live in the U.K., so prices are more or less the same.
http://vschart.com/compare/samsung-galaxy-r/vs/htc-desire-s
Nice comparison chart for you there, personally I love the galaxy
Dude, what a question ? There's nothing to compare. IMO it's not the same class of smartphones. The only hardware-related advantage of Desire S is aluminum unibody which feels much more solid than our shell but otherwise Galaxy R is better pretty much in everything. U'll buy
Desire S now and after 6 months u'll start to think about something faster.
If the price difference is not that huge...I wouldn't hesitate. I came here from Incredible S which has almost the same specs like Desire S (the same processor, ram....) and difference even in regard to sound quality (during phone calls) is huge. I think that nowadays htc handsets are not that solid like before. My old HTC Legend was a great phone, my newer Incredible S was a plastic crap you could hardly call with.
But do you think Galaxy R will get a stock version of Ice Cream Sandwich like what is being developed for HTC Desire S?
Kazuha Vinland. I don't think, I know Samsung announced this officially two weeks ago. While HTC hasn't confirmed it for any of its single core devices yet
Yeah, I know it'll get ICS, but can you like uninstall that skin they use?

Sorry. I have absolutely no idea. Never thought about it, and I've never taken it into consideration when I was making my decision about purchasing any android phone
if u think about ICS then Galaxy R for sure.
Exactly, I should have mentioned that
Oh well, I guess it's not as horrid as Sense anyway. Thanks guys, I'll opt for the Galaxy R then.
I had a desire before galaxy R. The Htc sense is amazing but the hardware it's faster on the galaxy R. The screen on galaxy is bigger. The only thing the htc is better than the galaxy is on the htc sense. I think your choice should be the galaxy R.

If by "skin" you mean Touchwiz, there are many options.
It can be replaced with "GO Launcher EX", the most popular option.
But Samsung Touchwiz has hardware acceleration, it was built for our device.
The others may be slower for this reason.

Hello all, I'm starting this to get opinions of what people think is the best android phone and the reasons they think it's the best. I'm looking to get a new phone and would like other peoples input on what phone is best, since there are a lot of options available. I know everything is an opinion when it comes to a phone. Just say what you think the biggest pros are and the biggest cons are. Admin, If I started this thread in the wrong place apologize!
I've had 3 android phones, all with t mobile. The G1, nexus one and the samsung galaxy s(vibrant). I still have all of them!
Now in my opinion the nexus one has been the best for installing modified ROM'S, With the least amount of issues and ease of unlocking with all hardware working. The downside is the screen size and the flipping power button keeps breaking!
Now my second option is the samsung galaxy s. I like the dimensions of the phone and the screen size is awesome. But with modified kernels and a crappy GPS antenna you still have GPS issues.
So come one come all, leave your input let's see what phone you think is the best on the market today!

specially the SGS2 HD version
The Galaxy Nexus.
HTC Wildfire S
I was also thinking on the same lines... tho I think people should be careful as to what their suggesting... I don't think this thread is based on "what phone do you own, hence think is the best "... because I'm sure as **** the Wildfire S is by far not even close to the best android... maybe the best cheap android phone... but definately not the best...
If you think a phone is the best... then why do you think so... you need to have a valid reason...
As far as I'm concerned I want to change phones as well... at the moment the S2 seems to be at the top of the hill... I was sure I would get the galaxy nexus but after seeing the utterly disappointing specs... a crappy camera, no expandable memory, and a TI processor rather than a exenos is just a major letdown...
Tho in the upcoming phones seems the Droid Razr is supposed to be a beast and the S2 HD seems to be awesome... but iit looks like will need to wait a while for them... not to.mention the s2 HD will only be released in Korea...??? :s
Its actually quite strange phones are getting bigger and bigger... they just wont seem to fit in pockets soon... I thought a 4 inch screen is perfect... tho 4.2 is really pushing it... but 4.6... I'm not really into wearing clothes twice my size to be able to fit my damn phone in my pocket
What does anyone suggest based on facts... wait for the nexus... or the S2 HD... or just go for the S2...

I've favored HTC phones. I've personally owned the Droid Inc, Inc2, and the moto Droid. I've had my hands on quite a few different ones. I think the Inc Is my favorite . Samsung has good phones, but I like the HTC's better.
XDA App. DInc 2 PoWeReD
Best android phone ever? As an early adopter I'd say the g1, that thing was supported for a looooong time given the average lifespan of android phones, the form factor, while thick, is still one of the coolest to date with android, and I believe you could get it all the way to gingerbread despite being a severely dated device. Next to the HD2 it is my favorite tinkering phone. The best right now, likely the gs2, I don't have much love for the current devices but the hardware on the razr is looking pretty sexy. I have a thing for thin phones. That's why my next device will be a Nokia 800 but that's a story for another thread.
Tl;dr? G1, GS2, razr droid.
For someone like you just get a Galaxy S ii and call it a day.

I think the OP was leaning more towards phones that are available now. Obviously, the way technology and competition works, the best phone will be the one not released yet...
Samsung Galaxy S II

Galaxy Nexus easy.... duh.... haha
Please thank me if I helped.
well it depends upon what specs you want to have(and brag about).
IMO, there's no such thing as 'best Android phone' because having the 'best' phone is always subjective.
If you want the highest specs on a phone, you can look at the flagship phones.
If you want to be unique, choose a less well-known brand.
If you want to customise, there's plenty.
If you want to have a good-looking UI, SE arc or ray would do
mine.
lol
I'm looking for a good compact, pocketable droid and I've narrowed my search down to these two
Galaxy W Pros:
Faster CPU
More internal storage
Lighter
BlueTooth 3.0
Slightly better battery (on paper)
Desire S Pros:
More RAM
Existing CyanogenMod support - ensuring ICS upgrade
Autofocus
Veteran, proven model
Slightly cheaper
Your insight would be appreciated
Bump........
Personally, I would by a Desire S because I love the build quality and style. It fits in my hands beautifully and is what I was going to buy myself but instead got the Nexus because it was cheaper.
I have never personally played with the Galaxy W but it does have some pretty good specs. Have you played around with the phones in a shop? I think that is very important part of deciding which device is for you.

Seeing as both phones have virtually the same measurements, both would probably fit the same in one's hand. The Galaxy is lighter, though, but I don't know about the build quality.
Unfortunately I can't play with the phone since it hasn't arrived in my country yet
Get the Galaxy W. Both are great phones but the Samsung wins hands down IMO.

Thanks, I'm also liking it better as of now
Could you possibly elaborate on why you think it's better ?
Sure can. I like HTC for their UI (Sense) but feel that 3.0+ is crap and somewhat overdone. 2.1 hit the mark for me.
Whilst they both boast very similar specs, the Galaxy W takes things a little further forward.
Samsung are well known for their speedy and reliable hardware whereas HTC are notorious for badly coding their CPUs, ultimately resulting in slower performance.
Build quality is great on both devices and dimensions and weight are very similar.
It's a variety of little things that make me favour the Galaxy W above the Desire S.
Things like the faster processor, better and simpler UI etc.
I'm also a Samsung fan boy at heart =D
I hope that helped =)

It all depends on the market, if many people will opt to buy it they will certainly be many developers who will want to develop for it.
Only time will tell, lets just hope the bootloader doesn't come locked or that someone will find a fast way to unlock it.

I wonder what's keeping GSMArena...
Has anyone seen the white one in person? How is it?
i prefer desire s, in my opinion is better.
The Desire S has much better dev support and better build quality. There is already a stable ICS ROM for it and a plethora of different ROM's . I develop for it and have to say there are loads of great ROM's for it
In UK 3 will sell a Galaxy w for £180 a HTC Desire S costs £280. and I still pre fare the Galaxy W.
So, the Sensation has been out for a while and for me it has not lived up to my expectations. ICS is right around the corner for me but I'm sure it will make things somewhat more bearable until I do upgrade.
What is everyone planning on replacing their Sensation with?
Yesterday, I got to mess around with the Galaxy Note. All I have to say about that phone is that it is obscenely big. I love it. It's the only phone out now that is something truly different. Too bad it's AT&T.
The only other thing that is currently for sale is the Galaxy Nexus. Other than the fact that it's running ICS there isn't much to get excited about. I think I'm going to just keep my Sensation till the New Nexus phone is released and get on that one early.
I'm not a fan of Samsung's phones or touchwiz but I feel like HTC is just making phones while Samsung is experimenting with new forms and new ideas. If Cyanogemod 9 was out and if it were available on Tmo I'd be all over the Note.
What are you hoping to replace your Sensation with?
after so much Android, I'd like to try an iPhone or a WP7 device. then again I have my XE since one week only so I'm still in love
Replacing it now with Galaxy Nexus, ordered international version on dailysteals. I do not need the latest and greatest but want to have no skins and reliable software. I had custom ROMs since G1 but want to see how reliable is original Google software on hardware they test it with.
Sensation will go to DW who will replace her Vibrant.
Galaxy Note.
Or it's future WP7 equivalent because I can.
I'd go for the next iPhone only if it will have a 4" display. I really want to get myself an iPhone and see for myself what's all the fuss about.
But if Jellybean will be as innovative as ICS was when it launched I will definitely stay with Android and go for the next Nexus.

On the contrary! As someone else said, sony have become very dev friendly and seem committed to updates. Most xperia phones are getting CM builds too.
That being said I'm loyal to HTC for now - sense is the best skin IMO and AOSP also sick and I have the option of both! While the one series looks sick, I think the sensation will do me fine for at least another year. As of right now quad-core isn't a necessity for me... but we'll see

Wherever the developers go, and some of the best stick with HTC phones. Prolly gonna end up with the ATT One X if TMo doesn't get it.
I just got my sensation. To be honest, in my opinion, companies comes out with every new versions of everything. But all in all, they're all the same. I was gonna wait for the HTC One S, but I figured, .3 difference on speed, just a little better on screen res. and beats? Not much of a difference, the sensation alone is fast and snappy, there is no reason for me to get anything high end because the sensation itself is a good device that pretty much do all the work. That's just me though AND, the sensation has a lot of love from the DEVs.

My personal experience is contrary.
My colleagues at work have iphones 4s. They often take photos for documentation. Their pics are generally ok for a phone camera but nothing special.
From what I see on a nearly daily base in real world, iphone photos are in no way superior to the pics I took with my X10i or take with my Sensation, which I think look remarkably clear.
Iphones produce exactly the same amount of crap as other phone cameras do.
Be warned ;-)

Haha, yeah sure. My nexus s was on 4.0.3, while galaxy nexus was on 4.0.1... I would advice you the one s!
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
the galaxy nexus is $400 from google unlocked which is only $150 more than the htc one s
so you get to stay off contract and cancel whenever you like.
However the htc one s has a much better camera, not only MP but also because htc added some tweaks and stuff
The one s also has sense 4 which is good if you're a fan of UIs.
The nexus is a google device which means it should get updates quicker than most phones unless you root and flash a custom rom
The htc one s also has a better feel because it's not as plastic-y AND COMES WITH WARRENTY FROM TMOBILE (which is very easy to claim)
EDIT: nexus has a better screen but one s has beats audio
nexus has nfc while the one s doesnt
if you like to mess with phones, i recommend the one s because of the easy warranty exchange with tmobile

Ons S is the best! but poor batteries
according to reviews in my country, one s has very good camera (high quality foto). Very hard choise You wanna have support from google, take nexus.
i would prefer one s
The CPU in the one S is much much faster then the one in the galaxy nexus. The 2 Krait cores perform as fast as or faster then the 4 tegra cores of the tegra 3. The Adreno 225 is also a powerful GPU.
Galaxy NEXUS FTW!!!!

Here's why
1.The battery
2.NFC
3.NO UI

5.Updates and ROMS

In terms of physical looks, the ONE S looks better to me.
I guess you have to try it out, maybe read reviews too.
OS-wise, I suppose the Nexus would basically work like maybe a Galaxy S2 with CM9, the stock ICS experience.
Then on the ONE S theres Sense 4.
Theres the feel of the phone, is it comfortable to hold, the weight.
Does it feel good in your pocket.
Or you are the tweaker and have the knowledge to bend any of the phones, within its limits, to your liking.
For ONE S there should be less custom stuff to play with as its new.
And if you are an accessory fan, consider if the phone will be popular or not.
When I got my HTC Desire, no shops seem to be selling any case for the phone locally.
Luckily theres a free case from the telco but its 'barely there', in the end got one from eBay.
If you're ok with online shopping then its fine, I suppose.
It doesnt matter that HTC is the best or Galaxy Nexus is designed by Google its all about the Hardware and Software combination of the phone its advantages and disadvantages its performance and other things needs to be watched. So my choice is Galaxy Nexus.
Prefer one s. seremic body and UI will give you a perfect experience. Basically nexus is great. You will get the latest update and great camera shutter speed etc. But android growing fast. Time to feel new thing..
Hello, my name is Ishmum, and this is my first post on the forum.

Samsung Galaxy Nexus, just for the reason that it will have Jelly Bean
If you want fast updates and not getting worried if you phone is gonna get 'em, go for a Galaxy nexus.
if you want better build quality and more speed than the gnexus go for the htc one S.
there is also the droid razr, but it is from motorola and i dont like that much.
Personally i would go for the Gnexus just because it is Pure Android experience, i mean no skins like touchwiz, sense and so on...and it has jellybean roms already!!
