[Q] Odin wont flash - Samsung Infuse 4G

First of all, I've been working on getting Gingerbread on my infuse since christmas eve.. my brain hurts from all the reading
I can't get heimdall to work at all (doesn't read my phone on either my windows or my mac) so I'm using Odin
I get odin to where it says SetupConnection, and it just sits there for literally hours.
I've tried different versions of Odin, I've done a battery pull on my phone, I've tried a different ROM, I've tried the wine thing and put odin on my mac (that was even worse)
I've actually gone so far as to reformat my computer because certain parts of the ADB software wouldn't ever install correctly. I resolved all the driver errors and thought maybe, just maybe, I could get that I997UCKI4_UC_ATT .tar to load on my phone....
nope.
Anyone else have any ideas on what I can do. Or a seriously noob version of how to get heimdall to work?? I have a headache from all this, and don't like froyo

I never could get adb to work right so i don't mess with it. Download kies and get the drivers from it. You get the right drivers and odin should work with no problems.

never mind. everywhere I was reading said that power + volume keys is the way to get into DL mode. ITS NOT
Battery out, battery in, volume buttons + plug in usb is how to get into DL mode on samsung infuse

For future reference.....next time...settings/applications /USB debugging checked....plug phone in...will automatically install drivers. If not then your computer is possessed....kies is useless....and you NEED adb if you wlever plan on doing any mods to your phone....Google it...its simple to setup with android sdk...

yeah doing the debugg would always install it, but fail the adb install...
now my question is how do I get this to actually root?
I've tried super one click, and it hangs
I've tried gingerbreak 1.0 and it errors out, and 1.2 also hangs.

Superoneclick

I do mods to my phone without having adb on my computer. You don't have to have it. If you want to do dev work, get it. But for minor things you don't have to have it.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997

in regards to using the different cords, I have like 8 here that I had tried haha
In regards to superoneclick, two different versions and like 5 different exploits didnt work. I ended up having to use a command prompt version of the zergrush exploit to get it to work.
I'm not sure if it's just my phone that's having all these issues, but I've NEVER had this many problems with my fascinate or my x2 that I had... I'm not quite sure what's been going on.
I did have an error after I got GB on my phone that none of my email accounts would work, luckily a factory reset fixed that one.
The major issue I was having was just what I was reading in this forum and in others was putting my phone into recovery mode, NOT download mode. Which I'm trying to figure out if other people got the power + volume keys to get the phone into download, wtf is wrong with mine?!

[Q] Fix brick? (failed theme update)

I tried to install an update on my Galaxy S 4G to my Gingerbread theme on KD1 and I can't get past the original boot screen.....is there any way to boot into CWM? I installed it, except i can't seem to boot into recovery.
Any ideas?
I'd like to use ODIN as a last resort (and yes, download mode does work.)
If it doesn't boot pass the Samsung screen then you'll have to use Odin to fix. I had a similar issue this week with thay

Pull out your battery. With your phone unplugged put your battery in but leave it powered off.
Plug your phones cord in your PC. Just the cord not the phone.
Now hold just the volume up and down buttons. While holding the buttons in plug that cord from your PC into your phone. You will see a yellow triangle or if your firmware is messed a symbol with a small phone and a computer. You can use Odin either way. You will see Odin recognize the phone if its done correct and you have the Samsung usb drivers installed.

I know I have to be doing something wrong. I have read everything everywhere and have a Samsung Galaxy S 4G & Vibrant 3G T959 BOTH stuck in recovery. Haven't touched them in about a week buttons just checked & still they go through the load to the TMO chime then black or I can get to download & recovery but have mounting issues. The Vibrant was rooted & SGS lost root when flashing joedevelopers rom (placing no blame on thread just providing information for possible help).
I read somewhere yesterday about using NVFash or SuperOneClick to get it going but each search leads me to instructions for other devices. I don't want brick either phone using the wrong files so I'm pretty much stuck.
Would appreciate instructions if anyone has the answer. I really have tried everything. The SGS was stuck at the phone ! computer screen shot first but the reloading the drivers and piecing together some code brought it back & now the SD card is not ready.

Black screen with phone exclamation triangle connecting to computer?

Bricked two stock ee4 phones today flashing jt's voodoo root kernal using the odin in pda mode. Any idea what this screen is and how I can stay away/fix it? after flashing it would fail and stay in this screen. I could get them into download mode but odin would just fail. Tried using the link to the team black hat back up and samsung restore program but that also didn't work the screen would not go away. Any ideas? Thanks

That's what the phone will show whenever you tried to flash something in Odin and it failed. Its a soft brick, nothing major to worry about, you just have to figure out how to reflash the phone. Honestly, nothing you do is a major problem to worry about, as long as you can still get the phone into download mode.
Odin can be really finicky, try using different usb ports. Or even uninstall the device drivers for the USB host and let them reinstall. Remember to close Odin and open it again each time you try, and make sure to check the hash of jt's package you're trying to flash, you may simply have gotten a bad download. Failing that, you may need to try a different computer, or give Heimdall a shot. I'm not sure why these USB flashing utilities can be so finicky, but they can. Rest assured though that the problem is almost certainly not with your phone as long as you can put it in download mode. All you've gotta do is keep trying to find the right combination of flashing program, computer/OS, and usb port, and make sure you have a good file. I know it sounds silly and like a bunch of work, but at least the phones are okay.
I'm used to using odin with my fascinate idk why this phone is kicking my butt ha luckily verizon replaced both phones for me bc they were unable to flash them back to stock as well. His kernal worked once on the first phone then the recovery did the soft brick when I tried to just flash his kernal on the second one it soft bricked again. Thanks for the reply I'm just worried bc I didn't buy my phone from verizon I was lucky enough to have them replace it

Thanks very much for pointing this out. I had played with my phone for several hours after soft-bricking it in this manner before finding this post. Reading this made a light bulb go on over my head, and I tried again plugging my phone's USB cable into another port - one directly connected to my PC's mainboard. My flashing problems with Odin magically went away! Not sure I'd have considered this without your feedback.

( help please!!! )

Hello Everyone, just like to say i've been following XDA forums for awhile now, i've never had to ask for help cause i usually find a solution if i do my research, but this time im in need of some. So heres what happened,.... I just had flashed my sgs4g back to stock+root using Odin, everything was fine until i decided to flash a different rom using Odin, during the process everything was running good until towards the end, instead of odin saying pass it said failed, then my phone switched screens on me, instead of download mode, its now in this cell phone, exclamation point, computer screen, from what i read it should still be able to be read by Odin to flash back to stock, but my problem is it dont get read by the computer no more, i've tried to remove the drivers and then reinstall them but its still the same screen and Odin dont read it, Any suggestions would be Awesome!!!, Thank You,... ahead of time
The only time Odin has not found my phone was because it needed a reboot.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Excuse me for not knowing this, but do you mean to reboot Odin? or the phone?
Your computer would be my bet.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Reboot and plug the phone in a different USB port. Do a battery pull wait and then try again.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using xda premium
Try this
Unplug your phone from the computer and pull the battery
Start Odin and load your files
With the battery still pulled, plug your phone into the USB on your PC
Hold Vol+Up and Vol+Down and re-insert the battery
Odin will now recognize your phone.
Hit Start
Thanks again everyone for your input, but unfortunately my computer and phone stop cooperating with each other, i tried rebooting my computer and deleting all files and re-installing them, and still nothing! not sure what's going on, but later today i'm gonna try all this with my buddy's computer hopefully it works....

[Q] Infuse won't connect

Before I start I want to say i've gone through every single post about the infuse not being able to connect and done what it says and still I cannot connect my phone to my pc.
First off the phone only started to no connect after I did the v6 supercharger tweak.
I have tried reinstalling the drivers.
Tried restoring the phone completely, NOTHING WORKS
If anyone could help me out that would be great by the way it is the
Samsung Infuse SGHI997 rooted, running ics 4.0.1 (CM9)
I have tried downgrading to start fresh but I couldn't figure it out.
Thanks for helping in advance.
I'm sure you tried the obvious using other cords? Will your phone charge when plugged into the PC?
Sent from my SGH-i997 using xda premium
I havent been able to use any other cords i dont think i have another but im going to look tonight. and yeah it starts charging than the notification on the taskbar pops up and says that an unknown device is connect error code 43 or something along there.
and the only reason I didnt think of the cord is because its the one if used since i got the phone to transfer music and pictures.
As you have probably seen in the other threads, sometimes it just takes a lot of work trying different things (ports, cords, pc's) to get to Heimdall to work.
Regarding "error 43", googling leads to many pages like this:
http://pcsupport.about.com/od/errorc/a/code-43-error.htm
suggests perhaps a driver problem. Maybe try removing and reinstalling drivers.
An alternative- can you boot into CWM? If so, you can get UCLB3 here:

I'm not sure if there is a CWM flashable stock for Froyo...
But at very least, you could try using a Custom Rom for Froyo.
Here's what's available:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1610374
I didn't see any CWM-flashable stock Froyo ROMs in that list. Only the Heimdal and Odin varieties.
By the way, I'm not very experienced in flashing. You might want to double check with someone else before you follow my advice in this area.
i really really need help now.
Phone is stuck at a screen that says firmware upgrade enountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again.
But it wont connect to kies please help.
What are you using, Odin or Heimdall? If you are using Heimdall you probably shouldn't be using Kies drivers. Heimdall uses their own drivers and replace the Kies Samsung drivers.
Did you follow instructions in qster's page?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
Not sure what to do from here if you want to try Froyo.
Sent from my SGH-i997 using xda premium
That is a form of download mode. Try running Odin or heimdall again, it should recognize your phone and let you flash.

a fix hopefully
Install Kies. Then at the top of Kies is a radio button. Push it and install drivers. Restart your computer with the phone NOT plugged in. When pc is back on. It should recognize phone. It may ask to restart again. Do it. I use Odin to reflash GTG unbrick, then the stock with root, and cwm included. Then flash a ics rom (normally twice). You will get a bad flash the first time in red cwm. Reflash it in blue. Then, go to a jb build. Yeah, it takes a while. Hope this helps you.

Stuck on download screen, but not in download mode.

I searched for three days before posting this, hoping for an easy answer. I tried to flash the GOV33 Lean Performance ROM last week and ran into a few problems. I followed the instructions and wiped the phone back to factory, clearing everything several times. I then tried to flash the rom as directed, but it acted like there was no phone present, so due to a lack of free time I gave it up as a bad job and started using the sidekick normally with the fresh wipe. No problems until yesterday. For some reason, for the entire day, the phone would not connect to the Tmobile network. So, when I got home I held down the power button to reboot it, and when it rebooted, it showed the downloading screen with the yellow triangle and the android with the shovel. Since then it has done and shown nothing else. I can't get my computer to recognize it to Odin it back to factory, and no button combination does anything. I am totally stuck and am inches from calling this phone bricked and letting my son shoot it.
Well I'm somewhat of a noob when it comes to Samsung phones, even with all the crazy **** I've done to this one occasionally I'm at a loss. Is it possible you have a sticky button somewhere? Like forcing download mode even after a battery pull? Also do you for sure have the proper drivers installed or rules(for Linux) to use download mode? Have you tried hiemdall? Have you tried a different USB cable or different computer?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium
This may be due to faulty odin . I'm not a wizard hell I look to ric an this wizard above me for help ahah xD
Ill ask a few questions first
Can the plug be falty an not reading the phone?
Are any of the buttons "sticky" in the term when you press is down it doesn't give the nice load click but kinda slowly pushes it?
Did you try this way for odin vvvvvvv? (Its my personal way I odin as it doesn't read most times on my old pc)
But yea my phone doesn't get reconized for awhile when trying t odin what I do is go into download try to odin if it doesn't work I pull the baatter an put it back in which will lead to odin with a different image then from there you want to try to odin with bootloarders on/or off if it fails turn it to the opposite (so if you turned it on an failed turn it off)
Sent from my SGH-T839 using xda app-developers app
Well, after trying multiple things, none of which worked, I finally found success with the Heimdall one click total wipe. she lives again.
