need a non-smartphone. suggestions? - General Topics

just to have as a backup.
I'm with AT&T.
a great camera would be awesome. nothing too expensive. sometimes I just really don't feel like using my Moto Atrix (or any other smartphone, for that matter).
thanks, all.

hey, good tip. thank you, sir.

Get a sonim or jcb phone?

What's making you not want a smartphone?

What about the Nokia 2220? seems like a decent phone that could be used as a backup.

^^ This, or anything Nokia that suits your needs really. Always really good phones and from my experience their cameras are generally the best quality cameras on phones that you can get.

how about those sony ericsson phones? I saw a few that have 5mp to 8mp cameras on them. anyone know how those are?

every once in a while I just want to get away from such things. I'll rent a cabin in a relatively secluded area up in the mountains, drive up with my dog, and stay for a week or so.
It's refreshing.

find one in second hand market, i always treasure hunt there

If you want a non smart-ish phone I'd suggest you to go with a Nokia, you'll get an amasing Battery life, a solide phone and for the Camera choose a model with a Carl Zeiss optic

[help] Which phone should he get?

my friend would like some help choosing a new mobile phone here are his reqs. it does not have to be WinMo....
Need qwerty input, email, decent camera with flash (will be my only camera), and usual multimedia stuff (music, podcasting, web, movies, iplayer). Waiting for N97 on vodafone June/July, but heard good things about samsung omnia HD and new tosh. Cannot buy iphone for fear of shame.
Any network. Unlimited or as near as dammit (300+ for me) txts + data and 600+ or so mins. £40 per month tops for the right phone. Think that's what vodafone n97 will offer.

You're asking for pain with a phone camera as your only camera. Might as well carry a sketchbook and a pencil around.

I concur......if you qwerty is a must than yeah, touch pro 2. It's basically a no brainier if you like Windows Mobile OS's.

Acer M900. Full qwerty, 5mp flash camera, takes storage cards up to max available at the moment (16gig). V.Big 3.8" screen.
Available from Expansys on contract to t-mobile . They are getting them dispatched tomorrow to first customers (of which im one!).
Important to remember that on such small CCDs in small cameras and phones, 8meg is probably the biggest you can get and still benefit. Any larger MP is usualy useless and for bragging rights and not much else. more info on this can be got at www.avforums.com

"decent camera with flash" Not really a TP2 speciality that!
edit: tbh, dont buy a WinMo device if your friend isn't techy. They need tweaking and some extensive individual configuring. Your probably better off waiting for the Nokia.
Guys thanks a lot for all your help... please keep recommending phones makes for good reading and research.

Which one to buy...

XDA ! If I were to buy a new phone, well actually PDA tbh, which one would it be?
I was thinking about Android 2.2, screen >= 3.7 inches preferebly with multi-touch capability, GPS, 1ghz CPU...
So generally I was thinking about Galaxy S, Nexus One...
What do you think XDA?
I think you should use google and youtube to get both detailed specs and then VIDEOS of all the phone you are interested in. We can give you our opinion all day long but it doesn't mean crap at the end of the day. YOU are going to be using the phone, not us.
This is a personal device we are talking about man. When it's all said and done, it's YOUR personal preference as to what you get. Do the research, buy what YOU want and you will be happy with it.

Right.
@Travikk
Almost all high-end phones have those specs u mentioned up there. My suggestion would be check out the hw/sw issues of each of the handset you have in mind. Decide whether you can do away with those issues. Some issues could be too critical for you to be ignored but not for someone else.

Thanks for your answer. Well yes, it is PERSONAL so it's going to be used by me, however what I'd like to get is maybe some experience from users using either of NO or GS. Nevertheless, you are right - it is personal choice more-less.

[Q] Phone with no camera

Can anyone suggest a good windows mobile phone without a camera? Thanks.
Why would you have to have a phone without a camera? Most phones come with cameras now. It'll be hard to find a good phone without one as most phones that don't have one are purely very cheap feature phones.. Eek. Not even worth buying.

Some workplaces require phones without cameras. Can't think of any other reason.
Might be a parent who may be afraid of what their child may send.

[Resolved] [Q] Best 4g Android phone on T-Mobile (US)?

So my g2x died, and I'm expecting SquareTrade will be giving me money rather than fixing it. (Radio is clearly fried.) I was really excited about the HTC One S, but the wired review...has me rethinking that.
So, I want fast (zippy CPU, plenty of RAM), big awesome screen, good camera, and T-mo 4g. I liked my g2x well enough, but I was definitely wanting ICS. The fact that the One S apparently lacks a microsd slot is really a dealbreaker.
I'll definitely be rooting whatever I get, and if cyanogen's available for it, then I'm all about that.
So, what phone do I want?
Sounds like galaxy s2
Sent from my U8150 using XDA
Are there any awesome phones that work on T-Mobile (especially on the 4g) that aren't offered by T-Mo US? Cos if there's an especially awesome phone, I will totally ebay it.

Actually, I think the galaxy s 3 sounds just about perfect. Here's hoping wired doesn't review it and point out all the things wrong with it before I can buy it! *grin*

Reviews are apple biased IMHO. Never seen most sites point out the lack of SD card without jumping straight to 'but there's 32gig internal' when that's the first con they list for the one x.

I'm glad they did mention that tho, cos lack of removable storage is really a dealbreaker for me. I use titanium backup to backup to removable storage, so that if my phone craps out, I don't lose more than a day's worth of stuff. Without removable storage, my nightly backup gets a lot more complicated. (Well, ok, it just means I have to make sure I'm on wifi overnight so I can upload to the cloud, but that's more complicated cos I usually shut stuff OFF on my phone before bed, not turn it on.)

Precisely. Right now I've seen the reviewers groaning about the pentile display. So the pixels are in a pattern...it's still HD OLED with 300+ ppi. That's way more than good enough.

Going to upgrade; Need some advice

The OPO is getting old now, I've had my 3years worth and loved it despite the issues I've faced!
However it's time to upgrade (new job, more money )
I'm in the mix between ;
Pixel 1 XL - £400 (Really like this phone, although the age is putting me off SLIGHTLY due to not going to get many official updates)
Pixel 2 - £630 (Quite a bit expensive, will leave me quite skint but possibly worth it; I want this device the most)
LG G6 - £400ish? £500 with a floating LG speaker (I REALLY like this device, especially for the money but the skin and delay in updates will probably make me ill lol)
Oneplus 5 8GB ram - £450 (student discount) (obviously this looks like the no brainer but i KNOW the jelly effect will really get to me, in nearly every review of it on youtube i notice it when they scroll; no one can change my mind about this but I've added it to see if theres yet a fix for it? or is there going to be one? I havent seen anything about it?)
;
And these are the phones, can anybody steer me into the right way? I honestly cannot decide, and my mind hasnt been made so I'm not biased against any however I'm least keen about the OP5.

I wouldn't choose them sort of phones anyway mate due to the inconvenience such as; they'd be imported, wouldnt have good support if anything was to happen and the sites selling the xiaomis at least havent had the best reviews.
The phones i suggested i can buy in town without hesitation, even the Oneplus 5 due to being in the UK and o2 selling oneplus products
I just want something that works, is great all round and smooth. (and something i'm able to flaunt to ALL of my iPhone friends that claim Android is for 'tramps and emo geeks' hahah )

Well I was going to get the honor when it was just out as my dad asked if i wanted to get it off him and swap him for my opo with some money on top but the software is a big killer, possibly THEA worst android skin on a mainstream phone. The look, the feel and everything is clunky and pretty fairly disgusting.
I dont think theres any other phone on the market I'd have other than i've stated, I really like the Moto Z but I can't find it for sale in the UK (reasonably priced anyway), Also like Sony xperia phones but again, they're too expensive for what they are. The new HTC u11 is £600 so again, too expensive all considering.
