Got sidekick off craigslist, used the hamidall wipe to put it back to factory.
Rooted. Fine.
CWM. Fine, also up update.zip in root of SD card.
put smooth maximus rom in root too. Fine.
Boot to recovery. Choose update. Boots to clockworkmod.
Flash rom zip.
finishes successfully.
Reboots.
Sticks on boot screen, and dosn't go anywhere.
Come on guys, i want to de-bloat this thing.

There is like10 plus threads of these please look a little and look T a rom first and read the steps

Problems installing Roms

So I'm helping my friend root his 4g slide (Having lots of experience doing this for the last year) but here's my problem. Everytime i go into recovery and install the new rom. On the reboot it begins to load up the new rom, then flashes over to the old stock rom. No matter how many times i do it or with different roms this happens. And when the stock rom loads i do not have root access, however recovery stays installed. I'm dumfounded by this and have searched as best i can with little results on this issue. Anyone have any Idea's?
You have Clockwork Recovery, but no root access on your Stock Rom. What I can think of is...
1) Your only Temp Rooted
2) Your S-On
3) You did all the rooting steps, but forgot to flash the Superuser Zip with Root access on it.
4) If you flash a ROM, but when it reboots your on the Stock DS Rom. Your S is on. This stops you from over writing the System. It does a check against the System to make sure that it's running the Stock Rom.
Just simply get S-Off. Very easy. Freevo is only a Temp Root. Revolutionary is the S-Off. You have to flash the SU Zip for full root access. This is all I can think of.
Try formatting system under mounts and storage in recovery.

Under was right. The boot showed it as s off with the s off boot version, wiping the system fixed it. Thank you very Mich gentleman.

Go here follow the instructions exactly http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348
I have done that and I am actually running my phone with the stock rom just fine. I encounter a problem when I try to flash a custom rom or superuser.

You need to keep trying to flash the super user zip. It may take 4 tries or so.
---------- Post added at 12:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:54 AM ----------
And if your rooted and have cwm. Wipe data/cache 3 times then flash the rom. If you get boot loop after that. Wipe data/cache again. If still no good use odin to flash the stock recovery. Tar. Boot into that the wipe data and cache and reboot
Thanks for info, let's see if I can get this to work

make sure if you watch the vid to pay attention to the fact that he is flashing a CUSTOM rom on that vid and not the superuser.zip so if your doing the superuser.zip DO NOT wipe data/cache just
-backup
-install zip from sd card
-reboot
I copied the video to a T and got the bootloop. so remember DO NOT wipe ANYTHING for the superuser.zip
So you weren't trying to flash a custom ROM?
I'm having this same issue with the cycling boot screen. I will get past the Samsung logo and into the custom ROM logo and then it will freeze and restart. I have used ODIN to revert LOTS of times now. I don't have a problem running the stock, but I have the problem whenever I try to flash a custom ROM.
I'm looking to go custom to get rid of all the bloat and I want to change the icons at the bottom of the home screen.

It went bad. No idea what happened.

Went to flash an updated Rom on my ATT One X. Been using CWM recovery.
Reboot into recovery, wipe/factory reset.
Go to find the file, SDCard is almost completely gone/items deleted.
I load up TWRP, mount the SDCard, nothing, all gone. So I just format the SDCard, copy the new Rom over to the SDCard root.
Reboot into recovery. Try to install, when I select it in TWRP, swipe, it sits, then just reboots the app and goes back to the main screen.
At a loss right now, phone apparently soft bricked. Maybe bad Rom zip?
Rooted/Unlocked of course, been working fine the past week. Only had the phone 1 week.
Ideas? Help..haha...
Easy, except you gonna have to reunlock boot loader.you can't boot into fast boot OEM relock bootloader and run ruu. You could also try using fast boot to flash something.

Or it might be a case of twrp going bad. Fast boot flash recovery img and boot back into recovery.

It was clockwork I was using at the time.
Everytime I rebooted into recovery and selected the file to install, more stuff was missing.
I'm wondering if the SDCard got corrupt, recovery went crazy and wiped etc...or bad Rom.
Redownloaded Rom.
Reformatted SDCard for good measure since it was all pretty much gone.
Flashed TWRP back as the recovery.
Installing the Rom now. CleanRom 4.1SE.
But...all my Sh&t is gone off the SDCard. Backups, photos etc...buh-bye forever.
Side note, my camera lens area on the phone has been getting hot. Not sure where the processor is located on this phone, maybe it is just doing that while trying to install Rom and CPU is running a little hot and normal?

Cwm has been known to have instability which is why almost everyone suggests using twrp, which is officially supported.

Ok. I noticed it was nowhere near as complete and slick at say 4EXT recovery on my Inspire and suspected some weirdness was going on.
Back on TWRP now and seems to be installing the new Rom I just downloaded again.
Rebooting now...guess I should start copying my SDCard to my computer
Go to cnet.com and download recuva. Do a deep scam and it will recover most of your stuff.. worked for me.. do it on your computer.

Ok, cool, will give it a look.
The CleanRom thread blew up, apparently me and bunch of others had this happen using CWM and the latest build....
All working again, now if I can recovery some stuff, like the photos I had, that would be nice.
Appreciate the replies and help.
Edit: recuva didn't find anything useful. SDCard was blasted for good somehow.

scrosler warned very clearly (even before the latest 4.1 build) not to use CWM. Why so many people chose to ignore him, I have no idea. For some reason the SD card wipe issue was much worse on CleanROM 4.1 than previous versions (and other ROMs).
Take note that the SD wipe issue has also happened on TWRP. Safest approach is to backup SD data to your desktop computer before flashing anything. In particular, your Titanium folder and anything not easily replaceable (photos, etc.). Its a bit of an annoyance to have to do this whenever you want to flash something. But until the cause of the issue is found and fixed, this is the safest way.
Not sure why everyone is blaming the Recovery's for loosing pictures and stuff from there internal SD card. Same thing happened to me with my HTC Touch Diamond, We all came to the conclusion it was from so much flashing. I have used both recovery's and lost pictures and My Documents. Just my 2cents worth.
Is there a tutorial somewhere showing how to switch from CWM to TWRP?

G2X can't load custom roms, freezes at flash screen

No matter what custom rom I try to load on my G2X, it will go through, install the rom, and then when it reboots past the LG screen, it gets to whatever custom boot screen in on the rom, and just locks up. The only way I can get it to boot after that point is to NVFlash back to stock.
Tried searching through this site and google, but can't find a solution.
You need to say what the process is that you attempted to do. Wipes and what not.

Rooted phone, added Clockwork, booted into CW recovery, did data and cache wipes, installed CM7 from SD card, rebooted, phone froze at custom boot screen. Reboot, still frozen. Would not boot at all.
Used NVFlash to reinstall stock image on phone, rooted phone, CW recovery, data and cache wipes, installed a different rom for my phone model, same result. Back to stock using same process, tried a third rom using same process, same result, frozen phone that won't go beyond boot screen.
Using this same process on my old T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant, it worked perfectly on several different roms.
It sounds like you may have a ROM for a different model phone. Can you send a link to the ROM that you downloaded for us to see?
Also, is your phone a T-Mobile G2x or an LG Optimus 2x (O2x).

It is a T-mobile G2X, LG-P999DW.
The CM7 link was straight from the CM7 site, it wasn't an experimental mod or anything, it was the stable one listed under the G2X.

Considering cm roms are supposed to wipe system prior to flash, I couldn't imagine what is going on. Try wiping system just in case and after that, try installing from internal as well. Other options would be download other ways, like on PC or from phone transfer the files differently. Other then that can't really help you.

The last time I pulled it directly on my phone, the other times I downloaded via my PC and then copied the file. Had been via external so I tried internal that last time too. I'm close to madness, but I'm also too stubborn to give up.
I was thinking maybe I need to replace the kernel, but I'm not sure whether that's the problem or which Kernel to try if I did need to.
I had a similar issue on a tablet of mine. What version of CWM are you using? Are you using the touch version? The touch version has had some boot problems. Did you try partition the SDCard in the advanced settings? I forget which I used on my phone. Has anyone else partitioned theirs?
Well, not knowing which peice is broken let me just recap my process for you and see how it works:
1. Use OneClick NVFlash from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847 and select Flash CWM 5.0.2.0
2. Boot to CWM
3. format cache
4. format data
5. format system
6. format Dalvik cache
7. flash ROM from external/internal memory
8. flash kernel (optional, not required unless doing kernel testing)
9. flash gapps-package
10. fix permissions
11. reboot
I have not had this process screw up once for me so far. If this process does not work for you then you leave me really be scratching my skull...

don't root and then try. mostly roms come with super user access so try without rooting it manually.

Stuck on bootloop from Clockworkmod 5.8.4.9

PLEASE HELP!! I have successfully rooted the device and was doing ok after flashing CWmod recovery 6.0.1 through E-Z recovery app and running Liquid Rom. I managed to be dumb enough to flash CWMod version 5.8.4.9 through Rom manager and when I rebooted my phone it got stuck in boot loop. I am able to get into CWMod 5.8.4.9 but I cannot restore my backup anymore. I can also data wipe and install a new rom, but it all just keeps going into bootloop and I cannot get past the samsung custom unlock screen. It first flashed that, then the android man pops up on the next screen like its loading something and then just keeps looping through the process. I did not use ODIN for any of this process and I dont know how to get myself back tothe point where I can reboot. Any help would be tremendously appreciated, because I'm dead stuck and in a panic. Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Happend to me last night...
I made the same mistake... DO NOT download any recoveries from ROM manager. I found out the hard way... So the problem now is your phone is stuck using the recovery you downloaded. I am not sure of a quick way using that recovery if you can revert back but... My solution got me where I needed to be in order to get going again.
I had to use Odin to root to stock ROM. Yes when you wipe it will destroy your data but not your pictures, downloaded files, and other files you put on there. When I re-rooted with stock all my stuff for CM10, gapps, and the kexec CWM was there.
So use this guide...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28530394&postcount=1
Section 1!!!!! And follow the steps EXACTLY the way it says to.
This is why i have never liked rom manager...
The best solution for us to flash recoveries is ez recovery free from the market. I would use this going forward once you Odin back to stock
