The RUU.exe needs to be executed on a PC and then you will find the ROM.zip file in the %TEMP directory structure. This ROM.zip file is the one you copy to you SD card and rename as PG88IMG.zip.
You can't simply rename the RUU.exe file to PG88IMG.zip.

thanks dude really appreciate..

So did that work for you? If so please edit your title from [Q] to [SOLVED] to help inform others.

I think I had the same problem, but it's now solved with a little luck and studying the xda foorums. My situation was pretty complex, unbranded UK model didn't update so I rooted it with Revolutionary and installed Cyanogenmod 7.1. I didn't like it, so I restored original backup through ROM Manager. I was happy with the stock 2.3.3, until I realized that 2.3.5 is out. After factory reset the OTA update kicked in. At that time I didn't know that Hboot is still Revolutionary and S-off. No root, however. So the update failed.
Yesterday I decided that I want the 2.3.5 and downloaded stock RUU update and installed it. It was the same 1.28.401 version I was running. Installation via PC went fine, then came OTA updates (three of them). First two went fine, but the third update hanged on yellow exclamation mark. After removing the battery phone hang on white HTC screen. I was able to access the boot manager, but nothing else.
Next step was to restore original Hboot. It was tricky, fastboot found the device but installation failed with image error! (Platform check fail). Adb didn't even find the phone. I assume that eMMC was corrupted at this point. I was not able to access Recovery to fix it. Then I found recovery.img and was able to install it from SD-card. I booted recovery, formatted all partitions (cache, system etc.), reset battery data. Next I tried fastboot flash hboot engHBOOToverARX.img again and it worked! Goodbye Revolutionary
Then I just loaded the stock (RUU_Saga_S_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.8) ROM on SD card (renamed ROM.zip to PG88IMG.zip as always), installed it from Hboot and everything was fine. Hboot is locked and S-on. Running the latest 2.10.401.8 software with Android 2.3.5 and Sense 3.0.
All the needed information is on this forum. I cannot thank you enough for bringing my brick back to life!

Hi Daatta, I have the same problem as you did. It won't load update.zip or PG88IMG.zip ...I've tried everything (sort of)
What do you mean exactly "Then I found recovery.img and was able to install it from SD-card. " How did you do that?
How can I make the phone read from the sd card?
Thanks!

Just head for this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488672

I did it! But now it won't install my rom....it's the same I was using before...installation begins, but suddenly it gets aborted..weird...any ideas?
SOLVED! I was using the wrong file it was a renaming screw up

[Q] Issue with Boot Recovery

Hello,
First thanks to all who help and contribute to this forum, specially to attn1 and contributors to the Hack Kit.
I been playing with different ROMs to find one that suits me, I had been able to successfully follow the Hack Kit manual and root the phone and later install different ROMs.
I wanted to check out the new AT&T Stock ROM
RUU_Ace_Gingerbread_S_Cingular_US_2.47.502.7_Radio _12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M
and after installing it with the executable from HTC I have an issue with the Recovery Boot. When I press the Power+Down Volume as expected I go to the menu and got the following:
ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT-0.85.0024
MICROP-0438
Radio-26.10.04.03_M
eMMC-boot
Apr 12 2011,00:55:45
and the HBOOT Menu.
If I click any key before movine the the options I got a meesages that says that the following files are missing or are not valid.
PD98DIAG.zip
PD98DIAG.nbh
PD98IMG.zip
PD98IMG.nbh
and then I can move between menus without problem, if I go back to the BOOTLOADER menu I get again the messages about the files.
If I try a recovery I got a error screen (I only tried one) that is like a cellphone with a red something on it.
I think I miss something or did something wrong while chaging ROMs or rooting the phone.
Can some describe me what is happening and how can I correct it?
Many thanks
Flashing the RUU deletes your ClockworkMod Recovery. Not sure if you can a temp root would allow you to flash CWR.
Edit- just realized that if you flash genes rom there is no need to go down to attn1 rom, my bad
Edit 2- heres the link to genes thread. the file is in post 4. download that rename it to PD98IMG. flash through hboot. now youll be on stock rooted and be able to reinstall CWR.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1191949
Apologize for the question, how do I flash through hboot, just copy the renamed file to the root of the SD Card and perform a recovery?
EDIT - Sorry, I just read Gene's post in full
This is an unsigned PD98IMG so you must have S-OFF and it will delete your data partition so backup (titanium
and nandroid just to be sure). All AT&T bloatware included.
Instructions: Download it, rename to PD98IMG.zip, copy it to your SDCARD, then boot into hboot (hold VOL-DOWN
and press POWER) then let hboot finish its check and then hit VOL-UP to install.
Many thanks!
in a sense yes. it'll look for the file as you stated in your first post. this time with th file there it will find it and ask if you want to apply it.

[Q] Frozen on Reboot of Android Revolution HD 6.2.1

HTC Sensation 4G on T-Mobile.
I have gone through more threads than a textile factory and cannot find anything posted about this (I would be very happy if someone would make a liar out of me). Mike1986, I hope you see this.
I have flashed ROM's before but using Clockwork Mod and did not have to flash the firmware.
I followed the directions to the 'T' from installing 4ext (which seems to work well) to flashing firmware (3.24.xxx) to using Super Wipe and all in between. I even found a patch for the firmware but it did not work.
The phone freezes on the Beat Audio screen. I left it there for over an hour and was not able to shut it down; I had to remove the battery.
Now when I go in to boot loader (though I removed the PG58IMG.zip file from the SD card) it still runns through that script as if the file were still there.
In bootloader it displays;

HBOOT
If I remove the SD card and boot then it does not run through the PG58 script but I have no idea where its coming from because I cannot find that file anywhere on the SD card.
I tried removing everything and doing it again to no avail.
I tried booting without the SD card with no luck.
However, the second time I flashed the firmware it gave me the "Incorrect CID" message and terminated the flash. It DID NOT give me that message the first time I flashed the firmware.
I Have tried going back to the stock firmware and the enregy ROM I was using and it boot loops at the HTC screen. I am now back with the 3.24 firmware and 6.2.1.
Now I have a relatively static advertisement for Beat Audio.
PLEASE tell me I did not brick my phone!!!!
Mike, if your out there, HELP!!!!!!
Have you super-CID'd your phone?

OK, first thing I notice is that although you're on HBOOT 1.27 you don't have the latest radio (11.21.3504.13-2)
Any reason for that?
Personally I would download the Firmware again from Mike's thread, and re-install. This should update your radio. Make sure you have SUPERCIDd your phone or that your CID is one of CIDs listed are included in the firmware. Once this is complete, get rid of the PG***.zip file, and Superwipe. Once that's complete, then reinstall 6.2.1.
That should do it.
That was it I had to go in to the android info file of the radio zip and add cidnum T-MOB10 then everything came together

It is clear from your bootloader screen info that the firmware flashing is done partially. It is incomplete. Did you check the md5 checksum of the PG58IMG.zip file before flashing??
It seems a bad firmware flash. Please download the correct v3.24 firmware from this thread. Flash it . Then superwipe and install ARHD 6.2.1 . Also have a look here . You will get the basic info .
I'm kind of in the same boat. I dont know my CID number...(dont know how to find since I'm stuck at tHe bootloader screen) and not sure of MD5 either. I know, dumb of me to jump ahead with out knowing) So can anyone help me? I dont know which PG58 file to try?

What md5 checksum do you want to check ?? There are many utilities to check md5 checksum on computer. Run superwipe script , then install Android Revolution HD 6.2.1 , You have the correct firmware for it. I can see.
I have a same problem.
Didn't read the thread very well and I upgraded the wrong firmware.
Now, I just see the ''HTC'' logo and after that it's only rebooting over and over again. I downloaded the firmware I needed, thought I will just replace it with this ''broken'' one, but I'm getting errors all the time. And after that, again rebooting.
HTC Sensation, S-Off, first firmware was 2.3.4.
Error is: ''CID incorrect, update fail'' in HBOOT.
Only way I can stop rebooting after that message is to take out the battery.
Anyone got any other solutions except the first answer?
Thank you in advance, sorry about my bad english.
NOTE: I'm a noob at this, just wanted ICS on my phone. So, please, explain it in ''moron language''

Pull the card out and boot it into hboot mode. Then to recovery. Mount your sd card. Plug it into your computer. Delete the incorrect firmware. Find a superwipe zip. Flash Zip. Then flash correct firmware.

It looks like you have a valid version of the Firmware (HBOOT 1.27.1100). However you need to understand that that version ONLY supports ICS ROMs, so it won't support your old ROM even if you recover it. Also as usual you should SuperWipe when changing things this dramatically.
As you still seem to be able to get into Recovery try the following:
i) Download the Superwipe Script from the ARHD thread, in the Downloads bit in he first post.
ii) Download a full ICS ROM, take your pick (my preference is Virtuous Inquisition 3.5).
iii)Copy the files over to the SD-card from your PC.
iv) Delete the PG59IMG.zip from the SD-card. (ADDED IN EDIT1)
In recovery, run the Superwipe Script. Then Install the ICS ROM. The first re-boot will take a few mins.
To check MD5s just get a free MD5 checker for your PC and also get one for the phone, when it's backup up and running.

You haven't detailed what your HBOOT is at the moment, what does it say if you go into BootLoader ?
As it's mentioning CID, I assume you didn't SuperCID the phone, not an issue just get the right one for you CID from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767
After you update the Firmware you'll need to:
i) SuperWipe
ii) Install ICS ROM
iii) Remove the PG58IMG.zip file from the SD-Card.

In this thread ''[Firmware][Feb 22]User-Friendly Firmware 1.17/3.12/3.24 & 3.30 Unlocked'' I downloaded ''HTC China & H3G'', version 3.30 by mistake.
HBOOT installed the PG58IMG.zip file and after that he's just rebooting.
I have T-Mobile Europe carrier but my HTC is unlocked.
Now, I don't really know what firmware to download or how to check for the right one. Also, I don't know how to SuperWipe or anything so I need someone just to write all the steps. From Wipe to ROM. I found nothing on this anywhere else and I searched all night. I'm new to Android (Have Sensation for about 2 months) so thank you for your help people! Really appreciate it.

Take out your sdcard from phone . connect the sdcard to your pc via some sdcard reader. Then delete the PG58IMG.zip from the scard. You will be fine.

Tried that, still stuck in the loop. I think half the firmware update has ran, then it has failed, so i need to roll back...
Download both the 3.30 and 3.12 FW. Open the 3.12 zip on your computer and replace just the Hboot file with the one from the 3.30 zip. Then flash the customized zip so you'll have the 3.30 fw with the 3.12 boatloader (1.23 not 1.27) and then flash a 3.30 Rom.
Some phones arent booting with the 1.27 bootloader that comes with the 3.24 and 3.30 fw.

You can superCID from fastboot. Put it in bootloader, connect USB, bootloader should say fastboot USB.

Is the pg58img.zip still on your SD?
Sent from my Pyramid-T
I had the same problem when I first tried to flash a rom, you just have to find the right firmware for your CID, find yours here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1459767, and if you don't know your CID just superCID as shown in the guide here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 and skip steps 5,6,7, just manually boot into bootloader.
If you want you can also see what I did on this thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1516373
The same thing happened to me

Are you s-off ? If you are S-OFF , then you need not have any file.
Just boot into bootloader.
Open a fastboot terminal in pc.
and type
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot getvar cid
After this you will get a reply like this CID : 11111111
If you are not S-OFF, then first install adb and fastboot in your pc from here for windows or from here for linux and follow this guide.
How To get your Hboot Version - 3 methods below
1. Run the revolutionary Utility you just downloaded from http://revolutionary.io/ and if it has found your device it should read
"Found your Device: HTC Sensation Z710* Applications -> Development)
4. With the phone switched on (not in HBOOT, just the regular home screen), plug in your USB cable and select HTC sync mode.(IGNORE any warning messages on your phone telling you it cannot find HTC Sync )
5. Launch revolutionary.exe. It should detect the phone and ask for your beta key. Type it (BE CAREFUL, as its case sensitive) or copy and paste it in.
If Revolutionary fails to find your phone verify you have all the drivers installed, try disk drive mode or charging mode (Linux users can use disk drive mode. Confirmed to be working by others)
6. Once you have entered your beta key correctly, follow any on screen prompts or actions from revolutionary and wait for it to S-Off,
7. You're done. Your Device will Successfully have S-OFF....if it hangs on method 3 and doesn't S-Off. See post 2 below for solutions.
IF REVOLUTIONARY SAYS FAILED YOUR PHONE IS NOT SUPPORTED. Go back and check hboot using the methods above. some users are told its failed and they still have S off now. If you have S-off your hboot will now be 1.17.1011 and revolutionary will tell you now your device is not supported
8. Revolutionary will now ask you to Install clockwork recovery mod after S OFF. Type N and install it manually below (the recovery provided is v4.0.1.4 doesn't charge when device is switched off, the one below v5.0.0.1 does charge)
9. Your Device now is S-off.

Thank you so much for the reply.
Open cmd prompt as admin (RT click)
cd to folder with fastboot drivers (e.g. cd C:/sdk/tools)
Connect in bootloader via USB, type "fastboot devices" and you should get a response with your serial number.
Enter commands as above!

By fastboot terminal I mean :
Open command prompt in windows.
CD to the directory where adb and fastboot installed ( generally platform-tools folder in the sdk).( Boot your phone into bootloader mode. and connect to pc)
Now type :
in the command prompt:
fastboot oem writecid 11111111
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot getvar cid
After this you will get a reply like this CID : 11111111

Please help i will donate if you can help me fix

I started rooting my htc sensation 4g. all went well i downloaded revolutionary and succesfully S-OFFd the phone. When revolution asked me if i wanted to download clockwork recovery i said no. so then i was told to download recovery v5.0.0.8 for the Sensation but the link was bad so i had to go explore for another one. the one i found was supposed to work it was a pg.158 file or whatever. When i booted in to hboot after putting the zip on my sd card and back into the phone, it asked me if i wanted to update i clicked volume up. it did its thing then asking me to reboot and i clicked yes.
it shut off came back on to the htc start up screen went to the next one and shuts off and repeats itself. its never ending i try to click recovery and it just goes back into bootloop....i try to click factory reset it just starts then gives me a ret triangle......what did i do wrong...someone please help me get out of this mess i would be more than happy to donate if you do.
my hboot says revolutionary pyramid pvt soff
hboot-1.27.1100
Did you delete PG58IMG.zip from sd-card?
Were you on ICS or GB? because hboot 1.27.1100 is ICS.
Just wondering if you flashed something different from Clockwork Recovery
yes it doesnt change anything
Download the TMOUS RUU and flash it again and then start again using the latest CWM image:

Desire S won't boot following ICS installation

Apologies in advance as I know there are many similar threads on here but I've read so much I'm just getting confused! Here goes...
Yesterday I tried to install the official version of ICS onto my Desire S. I followed all of the steps and the computer said the software had been successfully installed. Since then my phone will not boot past the HTC logo screen. I can get into the hboot screen by booting with power on + volume down and my computer recognises the phone when i plug it in in fastboot. It won't go into recovery mode and a factory reset doesn't work. I have tried re-installing the software but it makes no difference. I bought the phone second hand and it was already rooted so I don't have the programs that were used.
When booting in hboot the following info apppears:
-revolutionary-
SAGA PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT - 6.98.1002
RADIO - 3831.19.00.110
eMMC-boot
Mar 10 2011, 14:58:38
I have read that this version of hboot is not compatible and that I require an hboot upgrade but i'm not sure how to do this as I cannot access the sd folder of my phone and I don't have an external micro SD reader.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Even if means reverting back to gingerbread or using another ROM. I just want my phone to work again!
This guy have a same problem here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1892274 and already solved

if your phone is detected in fastboot, the best bet you have is to install a custom recovery and then flash another ROM through it.
check this thread, you may find something to help you.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1186401
I would recommend the CM10 by nk111. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1776256&highlight=all+credit
Try the latest stable one. ie, the 30-Oct version.
I think this is something similar with you http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1892274
Read thoroughly, solution is post no8 only if you have the same issue.
how do I install a custom recovery with my phone in it's current state? and where can i get it from?

Errr u could try putting the file into the sd with another phone.
If u can enter recovery mode, u can connect the sd card with the computer.

I had the same issue and manage to fixed it by following this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679338
I used a second sd card, I formatted it first and only put the file I need at that time on it. I
In step 5 Reboot into bootloade, select recovery wait till you see the screen with the red triangle exclamation mark and press the volume up and power button at the same time.
You will enter the Android system recovery <3e> and see the following options:
reboot system now
apply update from SD card
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
wipe the cache partition and wipe data/factory reset
Now following step B from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1858508
When update is finished - reboot, then configure ICS and delete PG88IMG.zip from sd card.
Thanks very much for your help guys. I've managed to sort the problem. For everyone else out there with the same problem I'll tell you what I did....
The hboot version on my phone (6.98.1002) is not compatible with the official ICS software update.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488672 - this thread shows how to update the hboot when stuck in bootloop.
I then reinstalled the ICS ruu onto my phone and it is now working fine although it is no longer rooted.
Could someone please tell me the best way to root my phone again. In the bootloader menu it still says revolutionary s-off but i cannot access ROM manager or titanium backup. Do I need to fully root it again?
Since you installed the official RUU, your root is probably gone.. You will have to fully root the phone again to get root access.
You could try flashing a custom recovery in fastboot, and then flashing SuperSu or superuser from recovery.

This. As long as you're S-OFF, rooting is just a matter of flashing custom recovery (using fastboot), and flashing SuperSU ZIP in recovery. The first step is covered in so many tutorials that any search will lead you right to it.
Sorry for late response but thank you all who helped me. My phone is now fully functional and I couldn't have done it without you guys. Much appreciated!
