No factory reset just deletes all user data, the only possible option without s-off would be a ruu as much as I know, but with it there could also be problems unfortunately.

Try a custom ROM with Sense 3.5. It is great.
And the way to go back to a previous version is this. I have used it myself, works 100 %

That is a safe thing to do? It`s realy the stock version that we have when we by the phone? Have Portuguese language? I need to "unlock" the phone to do that?

Messing with your phone always can turn out badly. If you read the guides, know what you are doing and follow the instructions strictly the change of getting in trouble is minimal. But there is always a risk.

The stock version of your phone can be checked in Settings -> About phone -> Software Info -> Software number
you will see a number like this 2.10.401.8
the third group of numbers (401 in the example) is your specific version.
According to this number you will choose a RUU for your region, which is an official HTC software and should contain your language

The guide that I linked in my previous post does not require any unlocking.

Looks like it's possible for those with an unbranded/unlocked phone:
mbroeders said:
First of all, I have an unbranded simlock-free phone. All I did was
1. download the file to SD card.
2. rename to PB99IMG.zip
3. boot into recovery (turn phone on while holding down volume)
4. just let it load the zip file and press yes when asked to install
Easy as that!

Ok for the dumb and ignorant among us (a.k.a me) what state does this leave your phone in.
I get I downgrade HBOOT to 0.80 and my phone will be wiped, but what ROM will be on the phone after the downgrade will it still be the OTA rom or will it be another one?
Or do I then need to install a ROM of my choice after the downgrade, sorry if this is a really stupid question, I haven't put any custom ROM on my Desire yet and then I got the OTA update as I was thinking about checking out some custom stuff. Not had the phone long.
Thanks.
{EDIT} someone beat me to it as I was typing this post thanks for the above!

After you've done the steps above you will have the following:
Blank and wiped device
Firmware: 2.1-update1 UNROOTED!
HBOOT: 0.80
Basband(Radio): 32.36.00.28U_4.06.00.02_2
Kernel: [email protected]#1
Build: 1.21.405.2 CL174215 release-keys
With that you can root and flash anything you want
Thanks for the tuto.
Hello sweety 0.80, bye bye dirty 0.92 ^_^
Worked for me.
Btw, didn't need the gc
Well, if this works AdamG doesn't have to find a way to root hboot 0.92.
:/
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
Has anyone tried this on a branded, but rooted phone?
I've got an O2 branded desire with hb00t 0.83, I can root with unrevoked, but can't boot into recovery =( Hoping this will fix it.
It's works fine! Why doesn't work the recovery bat. on my PC?

I can definitely test to see if it is rooted, hopefully the chances it has a custom Rom but was then unrooted are slim.

I have tried to see if I can get the ICS update via Kies, but I get the message
your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware vis kies
version: PDA:KE8 / PHONE:KE7 / CSC:KE8 (XXX)
If I type *#1234# in the phone dialer I get
PDA7300XXKE8
PHONE: P7300XXKE7
CSC7300XAKE8
So i am still trying to figure out why I cant update with Keys, if it is because it is on a non Stock Firmware or if it is because I am in the US and it seems to be a UK tab.
Does someone knows if you can run Kies for an Update while in the US on a UK tablet ?
Thanks

If it is on a custom rom then no you cant update that way. Also might have a prob as it will not see an update as your not in the devices default country.
I don't know much about that model of phone, but I think it would be a good idea to wipe and flash a stock image - one that will give you factory recovery (not having it can stop you from getting updates - one possibility). That way you know you are starting clean.

I have already reset the device, but as far as I know (read) resetting the device does not go back to a stock ROM if a custom One was installed, it only goes back to the default of the Custom ROM.

Hmm, I guess you are right. I mixed up 'rooting' and 'custom roms'.
By the way, I suppose custom rom does not even have to be rooted. so 'root checker' might a good, but not 100% accurate check.
Just reflash an other ROM, a stock one perhaps? Or some other one, that suits you better?

This is why I recommend you re-flash stock with factory recovery using a computer, not just the "factory reset" option in the phone.
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using xda app-developers app
I would recommend simply finding your stock firmware and flashing it. That should do the trick. Or you can just find another ROM, why disable the goodyness of having a rooter phone by unrooting it?

A new twist has surfaced.
First it appears that KE8 is a samsung firmware so i am on stock
But the twist is that this tablet as a fully functional Phone dialer in the Samsung mini app panel and can place and receive phone calls.
Doing some research I found out normally none of these tablets have phone functionality except some of the early demo models.
So either the previous owner had found a way to add phone capabilities to the stock firmware, or it is one of the early models (after all it is running 3.0.1).
In both cases, I would guess it means that if I update to a more recent stock firmware, I will likely loose phone capabilities.
Does someone know if there is a way to find out if a firmware has phone support?
Is there a way to backup the current firmware in the tablet before flashing a new one so I could go back to it ?
Thanks to all for the answers so far!

Firmware version for Moonshine

Hi all, first I want to thank to this community that helped me to solve a lot of problems just reading the posts
I have a little problem, I've an HTC One S (S4), already unlocked and rooted, I would like to install the maximusHD ROM so I'm following the procedure of SuperCID and S-OFF. I tried the standard SuperCID procedure with hex editor but cid didn't change after the procedure so I understood the nand it's locked.
I want to follow the moonshine procedure but now I have android 4.1.2 with TrickDroid 10.3.2 and I don't know if it's possible with this firmware or not or if I need to upgrade to another before..
If someone knows, please let me know, thank you guys!

In first, thanks for the quick answer,
in second, yes, my Hboot is 2.15 and my radio is 1.15 and I know that my phone is write protected, but it has also the T-MOB101 CID that is supported (as I can see on moonshine documentation).
Now, on moonshine download folder it's wrote for T-MOB only " ROM Version 3.14.531.11" , what it refers to this number? where can I check it? I read also that's possible some kind of down/upgrade to ROMs supported by moonshine, but, before I move, I really like to know from you if it's possible and what to do.
Thank you again

That ROM is the T-Mobile official release from June. The link you posted to McKinney's ROM is based on the T-Mo release. I used Face Palm when I s-off'ed, but if it were me, I would RUU back to the official release, and then use Moonshine instructions from there.

CID T-MOB101 means that your phone is from TMobile Germany and not Tmobile USA.
So you need from moonshine the file: HTC One S TMO_DE (3.16.111.10).

Yes my phone comes from Germany so it's possible that's TMobile germany, but are you sure of this? Because it's automatic to think that CID T-MOB101 needs the T-MOB version, but if you're sure, I'll trust you

The most easy way is to restore a TWRP backup with this ROM.
I have upload here a TWRP backup from my phone. (Boot ans System only - no Data partition)

You must : - Restore system

You can remodel your Chinese M8sw following this thread [*please see #1]. If you run into problems then check out my post here [*please see #2].
1. Make a TWRP backup of your current system to your SD card. (This sets up the correct file system you need and also a good safety measure)
2. Unpack the TWRP I have provided and copy to your SD card INTO THE RELEVANT FOLDER!! (Next to your previous backup)
* PARANOID MODE *
Perform a factory reset and then reload your previous backup so you can check it's working OK then go to 3.
* LAID-BACK MODE *
3. Do a FULL wipe but do NOT reboot.
4. Reload the TWRP with Marshmallow.
5. Reboot
6. Enjoy
Please make sure you don't factory reset otherwise you'll lose root. That case go to recovery and flash superSU again.

Is this backup works on HTC E8 Dual SIM (M8sw - mec_dugl) without remodel?
i have a Chinese version dual sim, in 5.0.2 and i want to go 6.0.1 with this backup, is it works or not?
thanks
I could not test it as mine was already converted to EU. You could test, but I think you gonna need to change the CID & MID and you need to be S-OFF to be able to do that.
If you feel adventurous you can try but first charge your phone and download this so you can recover if the flash fails. In case you have the triangle with the red exclamation mark then rename the image to 0PAJIMG.zip put it on your SD card's root directory and keep pressing Vol Down. When it reboots it will flash back your original ROM.
Report back please.

Yes, but will have flash Stock EU RUU. If remodeling your phone, update will take place automatically. I remodel phone and now I have pure Android 6.0.1

That's true. I posted this for two reasons, firstly to save time to go through all the hassle of updating (3 or 4 times depending your ROM) and secondly to get one without the HTC bloatware and rooted out of the box

No, you do not.
Although keep in mind that the update process will start automatically if certain conditions* met and after the update you'll be fully official (kernel/recovery/system). You will lose all personal data on internal drive
* conditions needs to be met
- rebooted to hboot
- image renamed correctly
- image in root directory of SD
- you chose to run the ruu when prompted

I think, will make the procedure remodel safer. I use my phone with android 5, and need pure android with ota.
I went through the procedure By DutchDanny:
http://www.bindroid.com/276-remodel-s-off-needed-m8sw-china-remodel-to-m8sw-eu
to 6 point and get OTA update to MM.

Well new story this morning...i did the remodel of my friends phone...everything ok...on step 5 i flashed the zip as in this forum http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=63323416&postcount=27 (L50_SENSE60 ROM).
After that the phone found the update ,downloded but gave me a mesage that it could not be flashed because the system was not "original" or something like this...well the point is that i had no root, original recovery and only unlocked bootloader...in my phone everything was ok and all updates was made with unlocked bootloader...so i relocked the bootloader...but again nothing...the same message with problem of not original system...so i flashed MARSHMALLOW TWRP - HTC E8 (M8sw mec_dugl) - bloatware removed & rooted....
Everything ok...it was late night so i leave it open with wifi on and no google set up etc ,left it to do it today in the morning...when i woke up the phone was dead ( i left it with at least 75% of baterry). i push the power buton ..nothing...i put it to charge..nothing....when i conect it to the power suply not even the power led lights up...the phone is dead...can someone explain what happened or what i can do to restore it??
Its my friends phone and he is going to kill me :crying:

Best Option for my Xperia Z3?

Hey,
what would u guys recommend me to do with my xperia z3?
Install another ROM or just root?
Maybe something totally different?
I guess neither Ubuntu touch nor Kali Nethunter are working :/
so what is the best option now for me ?
I found 5.1.1 version .264 the best, you can have root, Xposed and a great battery.
6.0.1 brought only a 33% lower battery life for me, with no apparent benefit (except security fixes that is)
If you have Xposed you can put the Nougat nav bar ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-pixel-navigation-bar-pixel-t3502987 ) and the N-ify quick toggles/reply ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/xposed-android-n-ify-features-t3345091 ) and you're done, looking like Nougat, but with the great Lollipop battery life.
I dont like to give up security :/
Is there a security or privacy based rom for xperia z3 ?

Was about to recommend that too, @sashpta remember your need an unlocked bootloader though.
Hmm oke,
Is the a detailed guide on how to do all those things? That jaguar guy also said I need LP or MM first and an unlocked bootloader etc...
I don't want to break my phone so a detailed guide would be nice.
And are still all apps working on that phone? Like WhatsApp, Firefox etc.?

They're all here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/general
Although, if you don't already know what those mean, things can get tricky.
Eg. unlocking the bootloader will invalidate your warranty, if you care

Yes, that's a given.
Warranty is gone sincd this month, that's why I want to do something now. So that wont be a problem.
Thx for the link. I hope it all works when I try to do it.
Is there a high chance of my phone breaking?
Or is there even a way to make a backup or something so that I can recover it everytime I fail?
Do make a backup because you need to wipe all (!!) for unlocking and flashing.
Hmm k
I guess there is also a guide for those backups isnt it?

I'd rather save media from Download/DCIM/Whatsapp/Telegram/Music/Movies/etc.
A backup app like TItanium might work, not sure on the details though.

Does such an app also safe the OS?
Nope, not sure what you want.
when u install that rom, then u do changes in ur current os (that is installed on ur mobile), maybe u even delete it (not sure, that's how i imagine it hehe)
so when u fail u can't go back to how it is by default (the default android version)
so i wonder if u can backup that android version that's given by sony. so no matter what happens u can just go back to it
What version do you have now? ( About-> last text down 23.something??
U mean that?

Yes, you can just go back to that (and then obtain root afterwards if you want that).
And the backups for this are explained in 'general'?
There is no backup, per se, you flash whatever you want, and if you don't like it you can go back to your version.
Yes, you will probably wipe everything from your device, so MAKE A BACKUP of your stuff on your PC or something, and then play with these.
Not sure what you mean by "backup" though?!

Ah oke, I thought it's like when u change the OS on a PC.
Then the old OS is gone, so either u need a 'recovery backup' or the .iso of ur old OS. Or u hardly can go back to ur old OS.
But I guess it isnt like that with a mobile.
So is the version i have now on my android still 'under' jaguar then ? or can i just download my actual version somewhere and 'install' it on the device ?
