So when Im connected on Wifi Calling I can't send texts messages more the 160 characters. It doesnt drop calls or anything like that. I'm running the latest Virtuous Unity.
Thanks for sharing. If you are looking for some sort of solution, I suggest you read the entire thread for Virtuous Unity. As far as I know, you're going to have to deal with it or go to a different ROM.

I thought it was the app it self, never would of guess it would be the rom. Thanks for your input.
That's how Unity is. I think its that way on all sense based roms but I'm not sure. I know on TDJs MIUI and CM7 you can send longer texts and MMS over wifi, so if you really need it then just switch to one of them.

That's the problem isn't it. You have to decide whether you want the pretty UI of Sense, or the speed and battery life of CM7. Or you could try to find a Sense ROM that has the battery life of CM7. Have you tried BinDroid? I tried that recently and was getting 48 hours out of a charge. There are two versions. A partially themed 2.3.5 version, and a fully themed 2.3.3 version.
Unfortunately you'll never get any Sense dialer/contacts running on a non-Sense ROM.
I keep coming back to Sense. Sure CM7 is slicker than a buttered weasel, but no one is batter at the Dialer, Contacts, Clock, Calendar etc than HTC.
Dialler one is good replacement for sense dialler

In my opinion Email, Calendar and Dialer apps from Sense 2.1 look bad. They are polished in Sense 3.0 but instead of Dialer I still use GO Contacts Ex. You will try it and never get back to stock one.
I recommend ex dialer
And for messaging go sms pro is the best
Ex Dialer is good... Thanks!
I am a fan of Go SMS Pro, however the recent update only does a back up and restore to the cloud!
I wonder , Why did they have to remove the backup and restore to the SD card option? :banghead:

Just use sms backup and restore

I love the sense contacts; till now I did not find a proper replacement for it even after trying all kinds of contact apps. One problem I see mainly is they can never completely replace the built-in dialer & phonebook they keep poping up in some scenarios even after wasting making the new app default. This results in RAM wastage.
I'm tryna find the best sms/email popup app... Any suggestions?

I like go sms or handcent. Either one works well.
Highly customized.

Agreed. My entire phone is a Go interface.
Go Launcher, Go Sms, Go Contacts. Once they get go Locker completely configurable I will use that too.
I have to recommend Go SMS as well. It's highly customizable and does way better than the stock messaging app.
i use gosms handcent started messing my phone up i recommend go sms for ya as well their stuff is so customizable and easy
While I also have been using GO SMS (only go product I dear use lol) lately it has been becomeing as bogged down as the stock and just as slow. There are many options. The top would be handcent and chomp as well as go. Try them all and find the one you like best and stick with it.

I use Go SMS, and now that I have I don't think I am capable to use any other one. Have tried several and keep going back to it.

Sooooo, I'm currently running the Virtuous Unity Rom on MyTouch 4G Slide and am DEFINITELY loving it.... Except for the lack of Visual Voicemail. Is there ANY way we can get back our stock Visual Voicemail back on this ROM???

You need to install it yourself.
Or you can use Youmail. I like it a lot myself.
I haven't tried any ICS early builds and probably will just wait for the official release. But I do have a question that maybe someone who has tried the early builds can answer now?
On ICS with the standard SMS app, are 160+ char messages auto-split? It is a very minor problem but it is probably my biggest gripe with GB that it can't do this. I end up using a 3rd party app (with auto-split capability) for long messages, but I'd prefer to use stock for everything.
Thanks!
No, there isn't auto split. Its gonna stop exactly at 160 and it won't let you pass that.
someone posted the mms app from CM7 (for gingerbread of course) which enabled sms split, i was using it up until i went to ICS. you can switch to dark theme and other stuff too. check it out if you stick with gb.
The stock SMS app has always been crap since I got my Nexus. I have been using GoSMS for ages, and for the couple hours I was on aosp's ICS rom, I was using it as well. Very customizable, and sleek.
Google Voice baby.

I like how the messaging UI looks in the Sense 3.0 but I hate that it will show who ever I'm texting number if I have their email saved along with their number. As far as I know HTC doesn't have an option to remove this but I was hoping there would be a ROM that did... Does anyone know?
Ever since gb this has been a feature/bug on sense. For the inspire gb version it was really buggy and would just show the number instead of the name. There isn't much you can do except use a different sms app or delete all extra information from contact like alternate phone numbers and email adresses.

Oh that's a shame. Its very irritating.
Having had the same pet peeve I would recommend changing your default messaging app to Go SMS Pro
http://bit.ly/rZeddk
make sure you also get the widget. Much better app than the stock
messaging app and it gets rid of the telephone number bug that
drove me insane.
