Anyone know why Youtube links open the mobile website rather than open the official Youtube app?

Did you set it as default? Go to your browser under Manage Applications and clear defaults. Try again.

Yes. Didn't make a difference. When I use Tweetcaster I'm prompted to open using browser or Youtube app.

Are you using the new twitter? The one that looks like the one on the iPhone or the old application? On the old one (which I use) I get the prompt.

So when you select the Youtube app it still opens in the web browser?

Everything works properly with Tweetcaster. I'm prompted to use the Youtube app and it works as it should. With the official Twitter app I'm not prompted at all. The browser just opens and takes me to the mobile website.

Already tried that. Even went so far as to do a complete wipe and it's the same thing. Not a huge deal. Just an annoyance.
I've been having this issue as well since I updated to the new version of the Twitter app. None of the suggested fixes work. I'm pretty sure it's just the app.

I want to run Google maps and YouTube apps rather than the browser versions, but there is no option I can select like my p1000 had when I clicked a link. Any way to do this? The browser versions suck.

I have no trouble running the apps. In fact, I think it came with the YouTube app installed.

Yes they're both pre-installed it just doesn't goto the app when a YouTube link is pressed, it just plays it in the browser and no choice to use the app instead

I don't have my Tab at work, so I'll check when I get home, but I didn't think that they opened in the browser. Youtube may (I don't remember for certain), but I'm almost certain Google maps does not. Of course, I may have just be oblivious to it, so I'll have to check to be sure.

Have you tried updating or reinstalling the apps from the Marketplace?
Just took a closer look. Maps is a standalone app (I think it was around 30 MB). YouTube doesn't open in the normal browser, but i do think it's possibly just a link that opens the browser with certain functions disabled as it's only 68k, but doesn't have the normal browser menu options.

I don't think I am getting my message across clearly. This is an example. If you install a new browser and then do a Google search, it will then ask you which browser to open up the search with. This is how it is on my p1000 with map links and YouTube links when browsing and pressing links. On the p6200 it is not giving this option. It just runs them inside of the browser.

YouTube is pre-installed and not on the market here with Honeycomb. Maps is up to date and reinstalled. I just think its something usefull that has been removed from Honeycomb. Maybe Google think the web versions are just as good on honeycomb which I would disagree with.

Seems to only be from the browser. If I open a link outside of the browser it gives me the option for the apps..Its odd why they have made it this way.
OK, I did misunderstand you. I see what you're saying now, and I think mine does exactly the same thing. Not sure if there's an option to change that default behavior or not.

Weird. Mine works exactly as it should. When I click on a YouTube link from the Dolphin browser (don't use the stock browser), a pop-up will ask me what I want to open it with and the YouTube app is one of the choices. Same thing with Maps. Maybe it's a browser setting in your tablet? What browser are you using? Or is the problem that you have a non-US tablet model (different stuff set up for international models)?
Yes it's a browser issue, I use stock. I've tried dolphin browser and it works fine with links to external apps.

Hello, whenever I open things like yelp or an address from the stock browser I don't get the option to use the app, the phone automatically opens the Mobile website version . How can I fix this?

i don't know if it is right to open a new thread so i did it to have a general discussion about youtube and its new upcoming feature
if any mod thinks that this thread should be closed then there is no problem by me
here is an article of what i am talking about
http://youtubecreator.blogspot.sg/2013/09/heads-up-about-upcoming-youtube-mobile.html?m=1
Is this source official? After reading it, I can only think of it as forcing you to download content. YouTube is probably safe, but pushing content to your device without you asking that seems quite absurd. I believe there will be a mechanism to allow this (only to subscribed channels or even a dedicated switch for that).
Seems like a nice feature, but with today's network speeds it's not that much of a problem.
BTW, before adding features, they should fix the UI on both mobile and PC, moving the quality setting to a submenu is a crime (especially when it's on 360p by default when you can play 1080p without any problem).
actually i doubt if that feature will be acting without user's permission but we will see it soon enough
Doubt they will do this. Google is try to get rid of YouTube downloading apps and plug-ins, so why would they purposely force you to download videos?

i believe it is just a feature
generally everything is happening for a reason not incidentally

When you watch a video you download it to your computer. After watching it, it is deleted. Everything you see on the web is downloaded to your computer (even this comment). What they might do is to make the videos available for you by pre-caching it, so you can watch them offline. And for the anti-download policy - I believe google will encrypt it somehow. There is more than one way to do this.
It sounds like a list you add videos to which will download all to your phone. Then the downloaded videos will be available while offline. Sounds like a Watch Later feature to me

Something like that, with te difference that you add channels to your list instead of videos, and when new videos are available, they get downloaded to your phone automatically for you to watch them, and afterwards (my guess is a couple of hours or the first watch) they are deleted.
I guess it's more like getting the newspaper to your doorstep each morning.
Thread reopened, moved to General
thanks a lot

what do you mean?
I didn't really get what the feature does exactly. Does it allow to push content to my phone without my permission?
Or can I manually choose which videos to download. That would be a really awesome feature and eliminate the need for apps like PVSTAR.

Sometimes I like to view them on my device with the YouTube app, sometimes I like to send them to Kodi. When it asks what to do with the link, whatever I select magically becomes the default option until I reset the preferences. Any ideas?

I feel your pain. my old phone would ask me which app I wanted to use for a particular function and if I wanted to set it as a default app. if I didn't set it, it would ask every time, but with the S7 it asks once and automatically sets whatever you chose as default. not cool.
I'm using an app in the Play store called Better Open With. Works perfect so far.

What do you mean by doesn't stay open? Is it force closing? Or getting killed in the background?
