LG P920 3D ili P990 2x?

What is better choice 3d or 2x? or where is better support....
lets see what ppl say about this....

2x has a bigger community, much more roms to choose from and is generally better supported. If you don't need 3D and you can live with a smaller screen and slightly lower performance you can buy 2x a fair bit cheaper than O3D. Also, LG confirmed that 2x will receive official ICS.

I think LG made the same commitment for the O3D regarding Ice Cream Sandwich, so that's no issue
I agree with the rest of your post though, if you want the latest and fastest and are interested in playing and recording 3D content, get the O3D. Otherwise, get the 2X which is cheaper and more supported by third parties, though I hope that with the update to Gingerbread starting to roll out more parties will be interested to make roms for the O3D.
Or wait and get a quadcore based phone next year

Besides hardware and specs... its a question of do you want your cake now or later? 2x has more roms and stuff but look at how much the O3D and Thrill forums are blowing up. Things are coming along here and soon we will have just as much as everyone else. Also I think most of the roms for this phone are pretty well put together. You might have a lot more rom choices right now on another phone but how many of them are even worth flashing? O3D and Thrill are just getting off the ground and have some pretty new tech in them and we already have a good amount of roms and now kernels are being brought out. We are going to be one of the first to get CM9 and once everything for this phone is figured out I am sure it will blow the 2x and many other phones away.

Optimus 2X has the Harmony Tegra2 Chipset.
There's NO support whatsoever from NVIDIA for that chipset.
There's NO open source drivers for that chipset.
There's serious doubts about the possibility of implementing ICS on Harmony without the binary blob from NVIDIA.
On the other hand, TI releases all their code for the OMAP platform.
It's an ideological reason, but for me (and for the medium/long-term implications) I choose the open option.

I am having the same question as the OP of this thread. LG is giving 100 EUR mone back for buying this phone, which puts it at a very competitive price range.
I would like to ask if the P920 has:
1) Unlocked bootloader
2) Will it support ICS?
How is the battery life on it? I have an HD2 running NAND Android and I would like to know if it would be as good, better or worst in your opinion. (I understand it has to do with the way we use it, but for normal use (some phone calls, sms, music and light web surfing).

Good man, another one who came from the HD2 side! I also had an HD2 and was heavy into flashing and playing with it, running Android NAND most of the time, GB 2.3.7 so I think my opinion here is about the most accurate you might get.
If I use my O3D the same as I did the HD2 it would last pretty much the same, with light web surfing, chatting most of the day, a few phone call here and there. The HD2 had a much longer standby time though due to the ROM I was using having a 6ma draw when Idle. The optimus is not quite there yet.
So comparing the upgrade in hardware with a very slighly less battery life, I'd say the optimus sticks to the HD2 pretty well (battery life wise)

Thanks Willievi (+1) for that information. I am getting 4mah wit my current HD2 ROM, so I am quite pleased with that. I think that once this phone gets gingerbread and hopefully ICS the battery life (at least in standby) should be improved considerably.
Do you find it in any way slow, or are you reasonably happy with it?

[Q] Is the O3D Dead????

I have had this phone for a week and can say i love the idea of 3d but so far roms (no disrespect to devs) have been really poor. phone doesnt come close to the Samsung S2 and HTC sensation XE which i both have.
Am i doing something wrong with O3D or can you guys recommend me a rom to flash.
iv had loads of htc smartphones and samsung but first lg and feel abit lost seems like this forumn is dormant.

Hi5 for that..I thought more would come from the development community but nothing..they say LG files are hard to deal with..overallisappointed

Well, the Optimus 3D is not the most popular phone by LG. The Optimus Speed is much more commonly used by people.
I recently switched from the Speed to the 3D (exchanged by LG) and must say that I kind of expected the same variety in Roms as with my previously stated phones, right as you noticed, too. Currently there aren't that much devs on the O3D. But nevertheless they are doing a great job. Just try out the Roms and look which you like most. Currently I am using Thiaizos Rom and I must say I like it the most atm.
I think most people are just a little afraid of the 3D-technics in this phone and do not know if its good or not. And if you do not want the 3D, there are definatley better phones available right know (Mostly related to form factor, not hardware itself).
Additionaly LG is not the most famous smartphone producer...

totally right,but I thought due to the 3D thing it would get more popularity,I think the hardware is really great and I compared it to the S2 and minor inferiority found,but still we wish more costume ROMS may support our phone cause I think it deserves such nice device,thanks anyway

The S2 is one of the if not the best android or phone out there and iv had the iphone 4s lol my o3d s2 and sensation are better than that S2 is awesome tho. some of the mods are soo cool.
for this device id love cm7 with 3d
The 3d features make this phone unique and i love it think the 3d games and vids are awesome.
i guess in the end ICS is coming out so hopefully will help our phone improve

What chance do ROM developers have if LG the hardware maker can not make a decent Gingerbread for this phone. I have personally went back to froyo after having freezing issues, Ghost calls and sms.
I got very close couple times to smashing this useless phone into pieces, I am reduced now to using my Iphone 4 again.

I agree with You guys. I had a S2 and it was great both with orig. firmware, miui and custom roms. Smooth as butter, and always working. Now I changed it for HTC Titan, and it also works great.
But O3D is another story.... Great idea, great hardware and ****ty software from the begining till now. GB is only marginaly faster but still buggy as hell.
I got info from the support that no GB updates are in the work for now. So we are stuck with v21a for qiute some time.
Also the devs are few and not very motivated (except Tiazo), and LG isn`t helping at all.
I realy don`t get it - it looks as if they are shooting themself in the foot???
I think this is my last LG ever! Even thou I have a great 2 year support from my cell phone network I`m goin to sell this stillborn pnone and get a deecent one. Even iPhone is better... lol

Got an unbranded new O3D yesterday, had the chance of selling it to a galaxy nexus, but what about 3D? Can I live without it again? No I cant. 3D is a way better function imo than SGS2's smoothness or even galaxy nexus's ICS. I owned SGS2 and own an ICS phone, both are amazing, I love ICS , but we r getting it sooner or later, but i repeat again, we have 3D and for me it is the best function so far in a smartphone.

Well it's simple equation man,we are getting ICS and many tweaks and customizations for the O3D like S2 or Nexus(We have enough hardware features no one can deny)..but can those phones get the 3D feature in them?
Noooooooooo..so that's what makes the difference,3D is a revolution and I heard a piece of news saying Samsung is about to produce 3D supported phones..Meaning??=Teased!
all we need now is patience and trying to support each other until there are enough resources that no one can complain..PEACE

Well hopefully when Samsung release a 3d smartphone next year it will be a lot better than the Optimus 3d so we will finally have a good 3d smartphone that works properly.

I don't understand all this complaining, my O3D has worked pretty much perfect from Day 1 using stock rom, we just received GB update and everything seems to be working fine for me...improved the camera and also released the 3D converter after launch, and LG promised an ICS upgrade too what more do you want.
This phone has better hardware and features than the Evo 3D and is only slightly behind the GSII in performance...looking forward to LG's next 3D phone I will be first in line.

3D is indeed amazing but the Optimus 3d isn't the best phone to show it off. As the phone has had so many problems and LG seems to be forgetting the 2d side with bad 2d photo quality and only improving the 3d side doesn't help things.
Once more better 3d phones come out in the future which are better over all then phones functions then hopefully 3D smartphones will become more popular.

2D photos seem fine to me but I found that a replacement camera app, Camera Zoom FX, made it so much better so I guess the problem is the phones software rather than the hardware.
In regard to others making a better 3D phone, so far LG's 3D comes out best in reviews and so, as other manufacturers have yet to catch up, I would expect Optimus 3D 2 to be best 3D phone next year as well. But it better have 1 GB ram as even I have to admit 512 is not always enough recently.

I've been really enjoying the 3D functionality of this phone. I'm still on the stock ROM and haven't been worried about alternate ROMs. This phone runs really well.
I also own an HTC Sensation and I have owned a Samsung Galaxy S II.....but they don't do 3D and - for me - 3D is THE reason to buy an LG Optimus 3D phone.
I've had a play with the HTC Evo 3D...and the 3D display on the Evo just isn't as good as the display on the Optimus 3D.
I'm looking forward to the official firmware upgrade. I only install alternate ROMs if that actually ADD value to the device. I've had my fill of broken Franken-ROMs that eat my time.

Its because LG is too slow with everything. Worse company so far between the mobile world big companies. In Sweden unbranded O3Ds has not gotten official GB still.

iam selling my optimus 3d today and getting a galaxy note...O3d is a great phone but i really dont like what LG people are doing to it..they released it as the worlds first 3d phone but they dont care about customers AFAIK..The gingerbread release in the beginning was stable but recently so many reboots associated with wifi and problems with bluetooth a2dp, the 2d camera being very very bad and then dont even have any updates planned for GB yet....my humble suggestion for LG is...only manufacture phones if u are really going to support it otherwise i dont see a point even if they make a 8core phone with a 10" display which has bad optimized software..
I loved this community very much i loved every rom of thiaiz..from the beginning i only used his roms they felt most stable for me...GOOD LUCK for everyone with O3D i hope LG realizes its mistakes and keep loyal customers like u satisfied

Seriously, it's disapointing? Yes, absolutely, but as long as no other 3D dual-core or quad-core with ICS appear, I´ll stay with this one. (Samsung, are you listening? )

I have come from using iphone4 (still have it as secondary), Nokia N900 (still have it as an mp3 player). To be honest O3D is the best phone i've used so far. It has it's quirks but after GB update and Acura's 1.6ROM o/cd' to 1.235Ghz, the phone feels fantastic. My home page has all the information from time/bat temp/cpu usage/cpu current speed/memory avail/internal mem avail/ext SD mem avail, current tasks running and few other widgets.
The bat runs about 1 day and a half without issues. The benchmarks are higher than the SIIgalaxy in CF bench.
LG announced ICS update for this phone as well so we can expect some good roms from the community.
YOu can go ahead and buy other phone but you will not get 3D games/movies or recording on it.
I also checked Galaxy note, looked amazing but slower than O3D in benchmark so what's the point. I can wait for another 6 months to get a quad core based phone then.

i tried to OC but my phone gets unstable and its having problems with signal after i updated to GB and ICS is coming but when?? more than 8 months from now..actually the main reason im getting note is because the camera of o3d is bad at 2d and i dont really have much need of 3d camera and recording except for showing off to friends because i dont own a 3dtv.And 3d gaming is just fine its not that breath taking and playing for long time in 3d is not good for eyes and it gives me headaches..so for me the 3d is only good for showing off the phone.. what i like about note is the camera, the screen, battery life and samsung updates are lot better than LG..and note has the highest benchmark after the transformer prime..the only thing which it lacks is the GPU benchmark because the resolution is too much..

Hi every1 first of all i want to say that 2 months ago i sold mine galaxy S I9000 and i had an option: Galaxy S2 or LG P920 unfortunatly i got LG and now everyday i'm *****ing and crying like a little sissy because there's no roms for that bull**** phone.
My girlfriend still has SGS and there is plenty ICS version for my phone nothing not even one.Everyday i'm checking LG P920 section and every morning i got mad because of it. Now i'm stuck with LG because i can't afford to buy SGS 2 .God damn
i don't know what to do with this .I like the size of the phone and omap inside but i have to sell it and go back to SGS.I wrote this thread just to let every1 know how LG f..k me up , i hate LG and this 3D bull**** , so have a good day to every1

before I choose I try the two of them.
and I know, my heart tell me that I love this 3D bullsh*t thing.

Most of the devs said that when ics comes out they will start deving like mad but as i see it by the time lg release it our phones will become outdated. Then all the work will go into the newer 3d max and etc shame this phone was really good. But just the lack of development from lg killed it..

Yes, you are really crying like a sissy, and I don´t understand why you blame LG for this.
LG has A LOT of problems they can be blamed about, and the delay for ICS is definately a shame for LG, but otherwise, you can´t blame LG for "no ROMs". If you say the phone is ****ty because you can´t find "lots of custom ROMs" for it? Then you should blame XDA developers (or lack of), right?
I already said this in another thread: if your hobby is to flash a new ****ty and half-working ROM every morning, very well, go look for this elsewhere, the O3D is not the phone for you, really. But please remember that while we have just a few ROMs here, most of them are stable and usable, and this IS NOT the case of many other phone models, which have many ROMs available, but most of them experimental and completely broken.
If you guys really want to blame and spam someone, let´s join forces and spam arcee, not LG, because he´s the responsible for LG in CM, and if you check his G+ page, he did a dirty half-done job for the O3D and moved on for other LG phones. It´s clear he´s looking into QUANTITY (many ported phones) and not QUALITY. And the O3D DESERVES the best from arcee, we are talking about the flagship of the manufacturer he´s dedicated to in the CM project.

But please remember that while we have just a few ROMs here, most of them are stable and usable, and this IS NOT the case of many other phone models, which have many ROMs available, but most of them experimental and completely broken.
If you guys really want to blame and spam someone, let´s join forces and spam arcee, not LG, because he´s the responsible for LG in CM, and if you check his G+ page, he did a dirty half-done job for the O3D and moved on for other LG phones. It´s clear he´s looking into QUANTITY (many ported phones) and not QUALITY. And the O3D DESERVES the best from arcee, we are talking about the flagship of the manufacturer he´s dedicated to in the CM project.

That is just ridiculous the O3D was the first CM9 rom arcee created on any LG device for reasons only he knows he has chosen not to release.
I suspect this is due to the usual b*ll**** he received on development of CM7. People requesting 3D compatibility which arcee stated from the very outset that this was never likely to work unless LG released their real 3D framework. A problem he does not face with other LG devices.
Can't blame him for releasing CM9 on other LG devices I ask you 1 question could you do what arcee does?

I blame myself for not doing my research on lg's reputation. I have and will hate HTC and Motorola.. never had a Samsung device I didn't like. Should have stuck to my guns but the hardware and dual channel ram tempted me too much.... my bad really...
PS. I flashed 20c kdz and installed thiaz 2.5 stock rom and I love my phone again. Highly recommended!!!

I flashed V20c and all was going well till today when my friends and family rang me all day and my phone did nothing and then when i finally called everyone said i was ignoring them...
I guess i need to buy the samsung galaxy s or the nexsus s out right and then use my sim i can't take this anymore and no i do not want to go to ****ty froyo baseband it sucks...

I'm in the same boat as Trekfan here. Try ThiaiZ's rom, he just released 2.6. use his kernel update as well. I also applied a ICS theme that doesnt' just give me icons, but dialer, texting, and everything on my phone to look like ICS (everything but the real deal). I have also deleted every useless application off my phone, and i now have upwards of 250mb free ram during regular use. phone is much faster, smoother, stable and not missed a call once.
i know there isn't as much development and action as the S2, but then again, the 3d didn't sell over 20 million units... we're not completely left in the dark. thanks ThiaiZ!

I think you're wrong mate. Perhaps there is no such as a ROM for the Galaxy S2, but here each ROM is very stable and reliable .... ALL Optimus 3d developers make excellent and stable ROMs, and excellent kernels, everybody can find what suits him ... ..
I have personally tried all ROMs , and I can say that all great and very very stable
I became a fan of the Thaiz ROMs, Thaiz currently using 2.6 with the ICS theme
I can tell the phone operate and behave perfectly, and that this should be when he left the factory....

Waaah waaah...no roms! Pathetic reason to hate on a manufacturer. LG aren't faultless but they cannot be blamed for the lack of custom roms can they? Maybe you should look a little closer to home - if you wanted a handset you could piss around with all day in that respect you should have tried some old fashioned research before purchasing.
Maybe you should start a "bye bye LG" thread when you exchange back to Samsung just to really let everyone know what you think eh?

Everyone can create a theme using UOT, with a couple of clicks.
Then it's just a matter of selecting a theme for your launcher.
It's not LG's fault this phone is expensive and therefore with a much smaller userbase than any other 100€ phone.

But I still chose it because its a smartphone with great specs, large screens (IPS, much better than the heated Super AMOLED Plus that did not deliver a great experiences, with yellowish stais and bluish whites, nor Atrix's grayish and dark screen with the pentile martix, my second choice, just staying behind LG's NOVA, which is outstandig), tri -dual technology and 3D, the one that besides HTC's EVO we havent seen before. But the developers surprised me where LG disappointed. Right now I'm on ThiaiZ 2.6, with ICS theme (kept Prada launcher), and removed system apps, like kylereid's suggestion - and using a 20b brazillian baseband used to remove ghost calls problems on thrill, and I've experienced no problems since flashing it. It's perfect - for gingerbread. I am too craving for ICS, and LG did release real3d source code, I guess: developer . lgmobile . com/real3d
ICS update should've been released already, Jelly Bean has already been announced and we'll have official ICS by the end of agust, its too much.

well, same history here bros.
-i had the i9000 before, i like it and the communty that support it so much, but it's getting old, so i decided to get something dual-core, bigger and faster.
-bought my girl the SGS2 beforce, we are extremely love it, fast, vivid, light and big big big actively communty, i decided to get me the LG 3D( because of 3D, and we do have SGS2 already), and i must say - this decision is my BIGGEST MISTAKE OF THE YEAR
-the 3D is not as fast as the S2, free ram is too small, cant heavy multitasking on it, battery life is terrible, and of course, GHOST CALLS, my boss, my clients and even my family and my girl started hating me because i didnt answer their calls, when i want to open the camera, it will take 3 seconds or more until the interface appears ect..ect... im too tired and fruscating of it, so i took out the sim and use it as a mp3-player..
-finally i managed to get rid off it, just sold the optimus 3D and bought the moto Atrix 2
huge huge huge differences i must say, there are over 910 MB of RAM here, install all things, open tons of apps but phone still smooth, never go under 150MB free ram (sorry but smooth like iphone 4s, even the animations are very nice) .
while both of the phone have TI 4430 SoC but in the atrix 2 apps open instantly (my op3D opened opera mobile in 2-3 second, but the atrix 2 opens it in 0.5 sec, and never auto close unless i turn off the phone or force-close), camera app opens in about 1 sec ect.......
Im not trolling in this thread, but well, you should avoid LG, and go for other brand (like samsung with the S2, moto with atrix 2, RAZR), LG is good at making TVs but not smartphone..

You guess cause they haven't... It is just the real3d sdk platform that allows devs to create 3d app USING the real 3d framework which is not released as of yet. It is stil proprietary. I querried at lg.opensource and what they said is that they have no immediate plans to release the damn thing. If you think that they DID have immediate plans to release ICS since December and they SAY they will release in summer when they will actually release it in fall if it goes like GB, then you can imagine when and IF they will ever release the real3d framework...

My mistake, so whats left is hoping Ricardo Cerqueira is still working on cm9 and using dual boot with gb in order to still have access to the 3d stuff. LG could at least release the 3d framework since theyre not willing to release ics anytime soon. Not surprinsing though, its not like LG hasn't disappointed its costumers before.

From Optimus One*previous* to Optimus Black *current* and now i eyeing to purchase a new phone again.. offcourse LG
i like to play games on my phone .. a lot of time actually..
can somebody help me choose a phone between optimus 3d and optimus 2x im really confused right now what to buy..
here in our country the price of Optimus 2X is $362 while Optimus 3D is $376 ~
any suggestions what to buy this mid of April?. .

If lg will ever fix the ghost calls buy a the 3D (its a bit faster) if not, buy the x2. If you want many custom roms etc buy the x2.
If you can wait a bit buy the x4

read the ghost call thread for O3D and any issue for X2. Decide which one is lesser of an evil. I would not recommend o3d. Today in crisis situation of my car breaking down the phone kept freezing, had to restart it many times. Most times its fine but i guess under pressure it breaks down. Luckily had my old N900 with me which helped me make calls.

N900 rult so sad that mine is broken. Loved that phone

2x is better phone, shame it has got only 4 inch display, 4,3 would be better for games.

Actually the O3D is usually slightly ahead 2X in most of the benchmarks when stock ROMs are considered.

Get O3D if you want to play games in 3D. Or get O3D Max for extra RAM even current RAM is enough imo.

Are you mad ? After all the software/hardware problems that both of those phones have you even consider spending any money on one of them ? If you gonna "buy/ put your money" on any phone, get something that works,keep youself away from LG phones. If you gonna get it for "free", get O3D but don't forget that this phone can't receive calls or text messages.

Like ThiaiZ said, buy neither of those.
Maybe, and I underline maybe, the Ghost calls issue is solved, and then we will have a phone nearly bug free, 9 months after its release date.
We were all beta testers for LG so far.

And what do you want to do with these benchmark results? Make a poster with it? And I'm saying that o2x have all kinds of roms, and cm9 port.
It also don't have ghost calls.
But better buy htc sensation, evo3d, or Atrix.
But o2x is quite good option and less problematic than o3d, which is really annoying. I was torn the same way, wanted bigger screen. Now i want a phone that is easier for developers (o3d is a nightmare) to have aosp. Don't make mistake, don't buy 3d crap from lg. Every other phone is better, unless you want to stick with stock roms with ghost calls.

Hold your horses. I said about stock roms, i.e., how the phones function just out of the box.
It's a well known fact that few of the average users root their phones and even fewer install custom roms. Most don't even install the official rom updates. You would be amazed how many average users keep their phones, for example, with the original Eclair even if there is an official Froyo or Gingerbread update.
As for the OP, I will suggest to get another non-LG phone. But if you want to decide solely between the O3D and the 2X, I would suggest to get the O3D if he wants to keep everything stock. Larger screen, a little faster and absolutely the best 3D than any other 3D phone/device. And better keep the stock Froyo at the moment if he doesn't want any ghost call.

Hahaha wtf your rom is great i havent had any problem with ghost calls or anything Thiaiz your roms are so great , this issue with ghosts calls maybr a carrier issue rather than the rom or phone issue I used my country rom(Mexico) with no oroblem 21a flashed since 2.5 to 2.7.1 just a few minutes ago and no ghost calls at all.
So I would recomend o3D or. O3D-Max because of the ram

On stock both lg are crappy as hell, on o3d full hd recording is choppy. Benchmarks are artificial, don't rely on them. Only if you want compare gpu maybe. Lg o3d has only bigger screen. On stock it lags and hangs, sometimes phone don't responds when playing demanding game.
On stock i would recommend SE neo, Arc, htc sensation, Motorola atrix.

here in our country i asked a couple of folks using O3D and they said that they dont have that kind of ghost call issue.. . i think the problem came from your carrier~
i will surely install custom rom whatever phone i will get.. AFAIK O2X has a lot more great custom roms as of the moment.. but the reason why im considering O3D is for watching 3D anytime & anywhere i want.. .
with regards to HTV Evo i'd rather choose the O3D which is way cheaper than HTC and much better screen display too.. . im not into video recording too so 1080p problem with O3D is no big deal for me..

For me it has too little ram, or bad ram management. Eg. I was playing some games like shadowgun and the game becames laggy, and the phone stops responding and becomes hot. After couple of minutes reboot.
Also i was installing and uninstalling many apps after some time of usage stock ROM becomes very slow..
I don't have ghost call either, maybe 2 times. But many ppl around the world are complaining.
For me its a good phone, too little ram is a serious issue sometimes thou.
But there is NO ROM from aosp that can be used as a daily ROM. Only buggy cm7. The rest are stock tweaked roms. They are very good but not as fast as custom aosp ROM can be.
For me 2 huge disadvantages: ram, and no roms from aosp, miui, cm7, whatever. This phone is horrible for developers, even for CM TEAM

Same here, never get any problem with ghost call at all since the beginning even with any custom ROM.

Do NOT buy this phone. It can't receive calls or sms messages on certain times, which we never know when it happens or how long it will last (ghost calls).

i guess all depends of the money you are about to spent
and the difference of the price for 2x and 3d
i own an optimus 3d buy now i am fully ok with this one
its weak point is on 3d pictures taken on Night
or in a room with no good light
but 2d pics even on night are very good with its flash
both of them are good phones but i would prefer the 3d because only for 3d
you can choose clasic pics or 3d pics

I m satisfied,my 3d with thiaz rom work smooth and stable. I know that there s poor support:
