So, coming from an Iphone, slacker radio was one of the first things I put on my Incredible when I got it; it was horrible on the incredible, with freezes and pauses all the time; 2 weeks later, when I returned our Incredibles because of the phone call quality nightmare, and got 3 EVO's, I was hoping it would be better, but, unfortunately it still sucks..pauses, stops for no reason, sometimes starts a second version on its own if I try to quit it and restart..
I have updated it every time it offers one, I have uninstalled and reinstalled, and still the same sub par performance.
Pandora seems ok, as does lastFM, but I like the offerings on slacker the most
Has anyone figured out a way to make Slacker work better on Android, or am I destined to use Pandora as my main listening tool?
Thanks!
what's wrong with pandora? i've found it does a pretty good job at finding rare music (i dont listen to garbage) and matching other artists close to it
well, pandora is nice as well, but, for some reason, the mixes I get on slacker seem to be better for me..
my point is the app is lousy for me, compared to how it was on Iphone, and I was wondering if others were having the same types of problems with pausing, stopping and starting for no reason, etc..
I've been struggling with it too. Today I had 2 songs in a row that played 12 seconds or so, and then stopped. Had to FC just to start over and have it do the same thing. Last.fm seems to be a bit better so far
Theres actually quite a few options, i use lastFM that updates my last fm radio suggestions based on the music you play thats stored on your phone
(scrobbling). there's also lots of great options for radio apps on the market ,xia live, radio time, wunder radio wich i hear is great, sirius xm, and many others just take some time to look through some of whats available i have 3 or 4 internet radio apps on my incredible and between them there is more music, talk and sports coverage than i have time for really the problem is deciding what i want to listen to .
yeah, I am gonna try droid live next..gets rave reviews

I subscribe to slacker and i haven't had any problems with it on my hero or my evo...i actually prefer it to anything else because of it's consistency. the only complaint that i have is when it first boots up...if i try to pause the song and then try to play it again, it has to reload the station. other than that, it's been phenomenal.
No problems with Slacker here. I moved over to the EVO from the Iphone 3G and I use the caching in the car and then stream via wifi at the office. I usually listen around 4-5 hours per day. Obviously there are bugs with it but overall no real complaints.
do you guys listen to it on wifi, 3g or 4g?
Pandora, FTW.

I have both Slacker and Pandora on my Hero and Evo...
I prefer to use Slacker and have had zero issues with it as well.
I prefer Slacker to Pandora. That being said, I have never had any issues with Slacker. It has worked just fine ever since I got the Evo.
Now if only it weren't such an ugly application... haha...
i do agree that sometimes it freezes and skips to the next song for no reason...this is while on 3G, however as far as country music goes, slackers stomps pandora
I've been having an issue with iheartradio stuttering a lot when streaming it through the data connection. This is even when I have 3-4 bars. It happens while using wi-fi as well though not nearly as much. Is there anything I can tweak to improve its performance?
I have the same problem. Hoping to find a solution.
I I've found that you have to have the absolute best signal possible to stream it. I think the bitrate is really high.

I had an iphone 3g before the captivate and it worked pretty well unless you had a weak signal and definitely never a problem on a wifi connection. There's got to be a difference either between the two versions of this app (buffer size?) or how each phone handles streaming (packet size?).
Iheart radio uses a ton of the bandwidth. It uses the upload and download if you watch your 3g logo.. When compared to pandora that only uses download and upload whenever you are making a change.. And like three previous posts.. Signal does matter

Well it seems weird that it does it on wifi. Even if I am right next to the router it does it. I think it has to be android. Radiotime app does the same thing.
I am about at my wits end and ready to sell this thing because my music stutters sometimes when multitasking. It happens most often when using the browser (open new tab, clink a link in an app that sends me to the browser, etc) but also occasionally happens just switching applications.
This happens when using the stock player with my own local .mp3 files as well as when streaming using either Pandora or Spotify.
I feel like I'm back in the days of my old Pentium I / Win 95 machine and I just don't think this should be happening.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Any tips on what to try? My next things to try are factory refresh and also a different music player (although I don't this will have any effect). I also have thought about getting an app from the market that will tell me cpu usage.
This is a WiFi only xoom, still stock, but soon to be rooted if I decide to actually keep it. I've had it for I guess 2 weeks and the audio stutter is one of the first things I noticed and is actually a big deal breaker for me since the main reason I bought the thing was so I could listen to music, watch movies, and browse the web. I'm just not sure if I got a lemon or not. It otherwise seems fine.
Factory reset should do it. Everybody says back up your apps but I never do. I like to go on the search for apps anyways
I get this as well. Bit annoying. Hope ics fixes it.

My music stutters like every two minutes. Even if the phone is resting
Droooooiiid.. the sound forever in our hearts and nightmares <3
same problem here. Since the very first day. I really hate it and every update I was hopeful that it will be fixed. Well, ICS is my next big hope...as long as it is a software issue
If it really bothers you that bad use a diff player from the market. When I use one it no longer stutters.. but i m a fan of the stock player otherwise

Have the same issue on my Xoom. Doesn't happen on my Galaxy Tab 10.1 though....

Happens to me with the default music but not Slacker or Pandora. Hmm...
Thanks for the replies. I guess I will have to try a factory reset. I'm using power amp player and still have the problem just like with the stock app. Power amp has an option to move to a larger buffer, which I'm hoping will help, at least for my local files. If not, factory reset is next.
Seems like a device with these hardware specs shouldn't have this issue though.
I think its not the hardware more the fact that honeycomb is a bodge job just to get into the tablet market.

Yes, this happens to me and is annoying. I try to ignore it so I don't remind myself I have a 600 dollar tablet that can't play music and browse at the same time

OK, I now have used Set DNS and set my wifi to Google DNS and get much faster downloads and that seems to have really helped with this music stuttering issue while browsing. I used both the updated PowerAMP app playing mp3s from my micro sdcard, and also streamed music using Rhapsody and no stuttering, no effect whatever, as I surfed. I don't know if this will help you, but it seems to have solved this problem for me.
Thanks I may try to give that a try. I don't really know how to do any of that, but I'm sure I can figure it out with google.
The $600 tablet that can't play music and browse comment is exactly why I have a dilemma. I wooted the xoom so I would have to sell it at whatever loss plus spend the extra $250 over what I paid for the xoom to get an iPad 2 of the same capacity of 32 GB. Even the 16 GB iPad 2 is still $150 more. Not that money is the issue, I'll spend the extra if I deem it worth it, but I just feel like the tablet market is changing quickly enough that who knows in 6 months to a year I'll probably want to get a different one any way, no matter whether I have a xoom or an ipad 2 right now. I really have grown to like the xoom and don't want to get rid of it over basically this one issue, and it's not like I can't get around the music stuttering issue by using my ipod or phone. I guess it's just that I feel I shouldn't *have* to do that.

The Xoom is really an awesome device and I think it will actually get better with a bit more time. Its problems basically are related to software and there are some solutions now and more coming. The DNS thing is something I hadn't bothered with but I saw something about that app (ugliest icon ever) in Android Police so I checked it out--very easy to set either Google DNS or Open DNS or another, depending on what works for you. I think the app requires root, but you can probably find a way to change it if you're not. I recommend rooting anyway, for a smoother and richer user-controlled experience.
Thought I would just revive this thread and say that I'm really glad I held on to my XOOM because I've been running some of the ICS builds and haven't had any music stutters. I had one moment of music "crash" where the music makes an awful buzz sound for a moment, which is because of using the equalizer built into the music player on ICS. I've had it multiple times on my GNex and it is already widely noted that equalizer may cause music to do this. But as of yet, fingers crossed, I haven't had a single stutters on music when multitasking. It would happen most often upon clicking links in a program that would then open the browser. I haven't done a ton of testing, but have listened to music for a good 4 hours now on my XOOM with EOS ICS while surfing and installing apps and what not and haven't had any stuttering.
In general ICS has made this tablet 10x more awesome than it was to start for me. It was a bit of a disappointment at first, has grown on me with time as I accepted it's shortcomings, but now with ICS is a tablet I'm excited and proud to own. Can't wait for official ICS and more ICS roms.
Hello all, I've tried a few different things but im still struggling to halt the media server/storage battery drain issue. I've tried to hot flash over cleanrom and I've tried stock and stick rooted with the media scanner root app all to no avail without multiple reboots every day. Has anyone found a real solution to this. Streaming music is one of the things I use my phone most for, esp in the car. The other issue I am having is ever since my update to Jb the Google play music app stops playing after 2 or 3 songs. Every time. It's really frustrating. I'm not sure if it's related to the media scanner root thing or what but I tried clearing data and re syncing and it's still an issue. Any ideas? Thanks for your help. I am currently on stock rooted Jb, but im willing to try anything as long as my battery life is good and my music is playing!

Im on Synergy and have been having the exact same issue. I've been asking around too and everyone has been ignoring me. Not sure what to tell ya man...
Rescan media root,& gsm battery,I used them both to help me with the same issues you were having, did you format your sd card that could also be the issue

Got a unlocked maxx that has serious issue with bluetooth skipping during playback of MP3s on an LG headset. Has done this from get go on 2 different phones and all three versions of OTA as well as 3 different LG head sets.
Thinking it is the way files are being cached or written to the phone. (Corrupted file transfer or fragmented files, I know no way to defrag on android)
Any one else have this issue and were you able to cure and how.
Thanks

Just for kicks, try disabling WiFi and see if it gets better. Or, if it's possible, go into advanced settings in WiFi and change the Wi-fi frequency band to 5 GHz only.
5 GHz only will have to check. That is all we use at home but will see if that is an option as only 5.
Post back when I find out.

It's definitely an option on the phone. Settings / Wifi. Tap the menu control bottom right, and choose Advanced. It's in there under "Wi-fi frequency band".
BT also uses 2.4 GHz, so it's possible that the radios are interfering. It's also possible that too much is running in the background, causing the media app to pause too long. Media playing on Android definitely is not as good as on iOS. But, the WiFi interference is worth ruling out.
My lg Bluetooth works fine with Wi-Fi or not. Not sure if this comment helps.

I've had this issue since the first upgrade to 4.4... Disabling Wi-Fi or switching to 5GHz band doesn't seem to help at all. I am assuming this is a software issue as it was fine on 4.2
OK so I switched to 5ghz only and made no difference. I was on 4.2.2 before but also started to use the newer radio with the first ota released radio back in Dec (first 4.4 release) so if it is a radio issue would think it would be starting back then but seams it did it before that even.
I reloaded the firmware again last night with a full wipe for other reasons and loaded only 1/4 my music back on and tried it again with most boaters frozen or deleted and it skipped for the first 5 songs then got better for the rest of the album. Maybe it is the memory since it doesn't have an SD card (sucks) it not writing to the memory consistently. I noticed if I wrote from PC to phone it's slower but random file order compared to using a otg cable to thumb drive copy to phone.
It's there any way to compare the files between PC and phone like a quick MD5 check of the files on phone to what is on the PC or thumb drive.
Or maybe it is the radio? Can I use the older radio of say 12.15.15 on SU2.3(current 4.4)?
Sent from my XT1080 using XDA Premium HD app
OK found it only does this during music play back since a phone conversation no longer skips using the Bluetooth and LG head set after having a long conversation yesterday with my brother.
So I deleted a few music files that were skipping and will copy them again to see if that they are corrupted files or if it lies with the player or phone software.

There is a setting under Advanced Wi-Fi settings that I turned off and so far I hadn't had any skipping yet; Scanning always available. I keep my Wi-Fi off at all time though and will continue to test different scenarios around Wi-Fi causing the issues...
Yeah think it is a radio issue. With my job I am around a lot traffic and a lot of Bluetooth signals coming and going.
I found a way to verify my mp3 files on phone to the ones on PC and all is good with that now. I did notice of I move phone from right side to shirt pocket on my left side it skips way less you'll an hour and half one time before it skipped but that may have been cause I was under high voltage lines.
Thinking maybe the older radio in 12.15.15 maybe the way to go.
