[Q] INQ Cloud Touch OR LG Optimus One - General Questions and Answers

As of now, im in the market for a NEW phone, off contract under $100
Currently i am using a CLIQ from the states. The problem with this phone is that in canada, the 3G on bell and rogers works on the same radios as AT&T,and therefore my phone only works with 2g.
I am on prepaid with speakout mobile(10$ for 2500 texts, 10$ for unlimited data) and it can access 3G AND 4G data on the rogers network, but as my phone can only use 2g i see no point in keeping it.
Now that its boxing day time i start looking through my flyers and i see a LG Optimus One for about 60$ and a INQ Cloud Touch for 90$ and im debating both of them. These are both on telus prepaid and need to be unlocked..
Now, i was wondering which phone would be better to buy?
The INQ Or the LG? Or is there another phones in that price range i should buy?
The INQ has a larger screen and a better camera with a greater visual appeal, but the LG has a huge Dev community with many roms, and it is cheaper.
So, i was wondering which phone would be a better buy? Im leaning towards the LG because of its rootablility and because i like [URL="http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408952"This ROM.[/URL]
Furthermore, i am wondering if there is a way with ABD or something like that to carrier unlock the Optimus one and be able to use it with another SIM. or would i have to do it the "Old fashioned way" and buy the unlock code?
Thanks for all the help

dont touch the inq its a horrid phone i had it here in the uk used it for 2 days the battery is evil and only lasted me 4 hours? like come and the lg is fine but maybe see if you can get beefy if you can or if you a great one is a zte blade

[Q] Need new phone and unlimited service

I'm currently deployed and going back to states in july.
I dont want to pay extreme price to get unlimited data/talk/mms.
I saw boost mobile, cricket, and few other having $40-50 for unlimited everything.
But here is the question.
I really want to use HTC phone with 4.3 screen.
What will be the best choice for me?
I have friend selling Evo 4g from sprint for $200 but I read I cant use it on boostmobile. Other than that I can get desireHD for around 450 unlocked(GSM).
Need to be 4.3 inch screen with unlimited service from any network.
You could also try Simple Mobile. They are a GSM provider so an Evo 4g wouldnt work but a DesireHD should work just fine. They run $60 a month and I believe are using the same towers as T-Mobile uses also Wal-Mart has a GSM provider they are just starting to get into the market and I know they use T-Mobile's network just unsure as to what a total unlimited plan is cause they never actually say anything about data on their commercials on the radio either way there are two others you can look into.
You could just get Sprint's $69.99 plan, but with a smartphone it's +$10, then insurance (which I would recommend) is another $7. Everything is unlimited except calls to landlines, but you get 450 mins for that. With nights & weekends, you'd only use those minutes Mon-Fri, 7a-7p. So unless you call landlines all the time, it would be more than you'd need. It's not super cheap, but cheaper than any other major carriers.
Also be aware that AT&T just bought out T-Mobile, so say goodbye to decent prices there.
I love my Evo, even if it is getting a little dated. If you can get your hands on an Evo, it is possible to flash it to Boost. I think it's illegal, could be wrong. But I've heard nothing but horror stories about doing it. It'll save you $30/month, but you'll have to buy the phone at full price.
I'm out of ideas, sorry.
Thank you. I just found brand new unlocked DesireHD for $330 on craigslist. Going to tell my bro to pick it up.
Hope it works out when I get back.
Going to haggle with friend and see if i can get that evo for $150.

[Q] Cheap No Contract Android Phone for Wife

Hello. Does anyone have any suggestions for a cheap (sub $200) Android phone with no contract for AT&T? My wife is wanting to get her first smart phone, but she is not due for an upgrade until January 2012. We are on AT&T through a business plan. I'm looking for something cheap and something that can run custom ROMs (has an active development base). I'm running a Samsung Captivate with Serendipity 7 now. I'd like to get an android phone for my wife and I don't have a problem setting her up for a data plan, but I'm trying to keep it under 200.
You might want to try one of the prepaid networks some like virgin/boost etc. many have decently cheap phones android phones off contract. If you do not mind being on a CDMA network instead of GSM you could always try the LG Optimus V it retails for 149.99 and the plans are cheap as well. Just food for thought.
Buy X10, its cheap **** when you buy it used, and until you dont have custom ROM/Kernel it really sucks, so you can play with this things Had it before really pain, even Had LG Optimus V/One yes that one have official dev in cyanogen. But i suggest something like Xperia Mini, i dont know price bcuz its still not out.
Ok I am a little noobish when it comes to the differences between networks. Can I unlock a boost or virgin phone and use it on att's network? I have thought about changing carriers too, but I would hate to do that and then never have a signal anywhere (i work IT in a rural town). The price difference between like att and tmobile is crazy though. I currently am on a business plan through my work and pay around 75 a month for 550 minutes and another 35 per month for unlimited data on one line.

No you can not use a CDMA phone (boost/sprint/metropcs/alltell-verizon/virgin) on a GSM network, (AT&T/T-Mobile). I'd go on to each of the carriers I mentioned websites and use their coverage maps to determine if you have service where you are.

[Q] Optimus 3D or LG Thrill to use on T-Mobile?

I've read that the Optimus 3D has T-Mobile AWS bands, while the AT&T version only has the bands for its carrier, is that true? Or would either not work on T-Mobile for 3G or 4G? Just really want a 3D phone, but don't want to pay $80+ a month by going with Sprint or AT&T.
I'm on T-Mobile using the Optimus 3D.
Both the thrill and Optimus 3D can be used for t-mobile, since both supports the network. However you would only be able to access the 2g network.
If you want to use the 3g network, forget about the thrill and go for Optimus 3D. But not all Optimus 3D, they come in two different bands. Search for the one with 1700. Any other one can't go on 3g.

Thanks a lot for the help. Any idea of a place in the US (other than eBay) that would sell that specific version? And how would I go about getting one of the new "value" plans with T-Mobile - I can still get the nice pricing and whatnot without buying a phone directly from T-Mobile, right?
I can't really help much with the plans because I dont work for T-Mobile.
I bought my phone from Ebay, here's the link. I'm not sure why you don't want to purchase on ebay, the seller is a trusted seller. But just incase you don't want to purchase on ebay... the seller has a real store. Here's the link for that. Since I bought from them, I can confirm their trusted and the phone does run on T-Mobile's 3G Network.

I ended up finding it out myself, SIM card is free and I can get the $50 plan I want through a 2-year contract - unlocked phone is fine.
And it's not that I don't trust eBay or anything (I buy and sell on it regularly), I was just wondering if there's anywhere else I could buy it (either for cheaper or for a better return policy or something).
EDIT: Also, to be clear - T-Mobile 4G does not work for it, right? I see mention of HSPA+ regarding the Optimus 3D in a few places...

From my understanding, it's not able to go on the 4G network. However, I could be wrong. But I do doubt that it could.
I'm not sure where is a cheaper place to buy the phone, I bought mine over a month ago, and after a while of searching I decided that for this version of the Optimus 3D, the link I sent you had the best price. Good luck in finding one. Wonderful phone.
i bought mine at atgsm.com/LG_P920_Optimus_3D_Black_p/phone-lgp920black.htm
works on tmobile. i tested around 4Mbps. hope this helps
sorry can't post link. new to forum
Mine should be here tomorrow!!!
I just bought one from Negri Electronics. They are based in California and ship from Nevada. Their site confirms that the P920 model has 1700 (AWS) so you can use 3G with T-Mobile/Simple Mobile. (Simple Mobile is a T-Mobile MVNO that uses their bands and I think they have an unlimited everything type plan for $60 a month, but since they are tied to T-Mobile, if AT&T gets their nasty hands on them that will no longer be an option.)
The devices are unlocked so you will be good to go. Be careful though as another person said there are two Optimus 3Ds, one with 850/1900 (AT&T 3G P925G) and one with 900/1700/1900/2100 (T-Mobile 3G P920). Negri has both, and the T-Mobile version is 589.
LG UK link to the P920 specs showing 1700 band support: http://www.lg.com/uk/mobile-phones/all-lg-phones/LG-android-mobile-phone-P920.jsp
On another note, you won't readily (out of the box) be able to use WiFi calling or have access to T-Mobile's WiFi hotspot app, but since the devices are unlocked you may be able to sideload them or figure something else out. As we know, tethering on T-Mobile is A-OK.
[update: just got it and it is up and running. 3D aside this phone is classy, and it is smaller and lighter than a lot of reviews make it out to be. the 3D is a total bonus on top of a nice phone. very happy.]
even with p920 there are two versions. one with tmoble 3g and
one doesn't. look for 1700mhz band or ask seller. data im getting around
4-8Mb. should work with tzone

[Q] The Phone &/Or Situational Dilemma

Hello, my phone-loving peers.
I have a dilemma. Financial based mostly...
Current wireless providers
WIND $40 MIRACLE PLAN - My business line, no associated phone - sold TMO HTC Sensation yesterday.
ROGERS $65 MY 10 STUDENT - Gf uses this w/ my old school bb 9000.
1st I wanted the Galaxy Nexus (PENTBAND was majority reasoning) but, unwilling to pay the full price, I'm considering 3-yr with Virgin or Bell to acquire this. Again I want this to use w. Wind then I'm stuck paying another bill though.
2nd. I was offered a HTC Flyer 3G (AWS and I've read does voice calls!?) for the Galaxy Nexus + $200 payment to myself. Again same issue stuck with bill.
3rd. Offered Galaxy Note (No AWS but, Does feature Stylus which is a HUGE need in my current business!) I could use either Rogers or Bellgin plan with this phone, then forward my phone calls to other number and have an AWS tablet/device with wi-fi tethering so I don't kill myself with the big 3's sh!77y data costs?
4th. I could buy a Nexus outright but MicroSD support is a must and USB OTG
Or Buy a Note and use it with Rogers but, then I must supplement my gf with a different phone!
5th. I could transfer my Wind to Bellgin for the Nexus then trade or maybe transfer Wind to Rogers but the Wireless data I go through with Wind alone is worth the $40 I pay (typically 5-8 gb a month) that and rumors of LTE coming to Wind keep me paying.
Please help me, any ideas, solutions, opinions... etc.
Cheers, Red

I need help deciding which carrier/phone/plan

Ok, I've looked at all the carriers and the resellers to include post and pre. I've been on a family plan for ever and I'm about to drop off and start my own family plan with my daughter.
I've just gotten a settlement and want to pay up front for at least the first year or more but want to stick to under 2K. What I'm having trouble with is deciding which is best. Everything I read is this is better but another says different.
When I drop off the Verizon and start my own I'll lose the unlimited data so I need to consider data, 4g, unlimited and whatever on 2 androids and what is the best latest and greatest.
Sprint looks like cheapest but no 4g unless I'm seeing it from for Arkansas and Indiana. Verizon has best coverage but data is limited and raises price when you go over which I would. ATT is expensive and has 2Gb cap which is about same for T-Mobile.
I'd love to buy two unlocked kick ass quad cores and do Simple which would be 4G but hear it's unreliable.
Anyone have any recent experience like mine that can share some input? I'm needing 2 Androids (best phones) with unlimited data (or a ton of it) and unlimited text and pic, plus around 1000 or more minutes.
My brain is fried, only reason I'm asking... Prolly over thinking but it's a lot of money.
go with sprint or tmo?
since data is obviously a big must for you, i would suggest considering sprint above all. it will give u the unlimited data and relatively affordable prices. theyre launching the samsung galaxy nexus with 4g lte support very soon, and that of course, is a great developer phone.
if not the galaxy nexus, you will want to consider the samsung galaxy s ii epic 4g touch. it is sprint's version of the galaxy s 2 and definitely a phone that can hold its own. both phones are about 199 up front, and are quality samsung smartphones that should last you two years.
tmobile is a good carrier to consider because even though data is capped at 2gb, its 4g hspa+ network is pretty fast, and if oyu go over, they will only throttle your speeds, not charge you an overage fee. the throttling will be annoyingly slow (i speak from experience), but at least you wont pay overages. for tmobile phones, i would consider the htc one s or the samsung galaxy s ii. both phones are solid, dual-core phones and the one s launches with android 4.0 on board.

I've been thinking it's going to be sprint but not having the 4G is bugging me big time. It's almost as if they painted the whole map with 3G though so it will help. Daughter will be staying put in college but I'll be bouncing all over the place helping family take care of different things until I start getting low on funds again.
I cant do the throttled data as it will most likely be my only internet in the Toy Hauler that I'll be sleeping in and I like my Netflix to much. Maybe someone will know some magic combo that is better than anything I've seen so far. Have two weeks till she can port her number.
which sprint phone?
that makes sense, if cellular data is going to be your primary source of internet, then sprint's unlimited plan is probably the way to go. (but i would like to hear if anyone has any better ideas).
what smartphone are you leaning towards for you and your daughter?
If you're looking for an available quad-core then no questions asked it's the HTC One X.
And you want 4G? Don't make it a priority in your checklist, 4G won't have the same coverage as 3G in the next 2-3 years and by then you'll probably be getting a new phone. IMO get into a carrier with the best 3G coverage if data is a must for you. You won't need anything faster on a mobile device anyway.

I had been looking to buy a digitizer for a G2X my niece had laying around and hitting Simple Mobile then my daughter told me she's paying 94 per month to ATT and has the smallest minute package and only 2GB of data. I'm used to being unlimited and paying less than that so I think that's insane.
I was looking at 2 that was on sprints site both being 1.2 dual, Nexus and G11 S Epic. Daughter already has an Iphone and I will if I have to (she asks) buy her another but I'd hate giving money for a mac phone. Would rather pay double for an Android than the iphone.

That One X comes out in June to sprint. I can stay in my family plan I'm in now if hers being att doesn't try and lock her into another two year.
