Hello All,
With the new LG myTouch Q (C800) & LG myTouch 4G (E739) out now and a successful root method in place:
Make sure device USB debugging is on and you have installed all drivers from the LG Mobile device website. Must download this: http://www.lg.com/us/support/mc-support/mobile-phone-support.jsp and install all drivers.
Install ADB, then
C:\adb> adb shell
$ echo 1 > /data/local/lge_adb.conf
$ exit
Then run SuperOneClick 2.2 and it should root properly.
Just wondering if any devs are interested in working on some custom kernels, roms, etc for these devices. Just rooting, removing bloat, and running SETCPU has increased performance dramatically and would like to see some forward momentum with a new forum section on these devices.
NOTE: Please don't try to install any new recovery files from Clockwork Mod or similar apps. You will end up recovering your phone every time you reboot.
What are some of the programs you'd suggest removing to cut down on the bloat. I got this phone for my daughter and it has some decent specs but the phone seems to lag up a lot and get crappy battery life.
I use Root Uninstaller Pro. You can remove any system installed app completely or freeze an app if you think you may want it back later. It can be found on the market and is a buck or two. With that believe I removed about 30 apps. Be careful not to remove anything important or something you are not sure of.
After that and the setcpu running on performance mode at 1ghz and 248mhz when screen is off it definitely runs a lot smoother and battery life is great.

I Ended UP using System Tuner Pro. Gives you alot of statistics and options to choose from and the ability to delete , modify, backup , freeze, uninstall and alot more options! I will check out the app mentions above and i also agree with the SET CPU helping out
i asked the same question in the general forum and i was told because this a low end phone. A low end phone with specs comparable to the Iphone 4 .. lol.
Love this phone, rooting and removing bloat definitely helps with the speed. I would love to see some devs get into this phone so we can get some fast ROMS running on it.. at least give us a proper forum to discuss in lol
edit: also, for some reason after rooting and removing a few system apps. I rebooted to see if eveything was good, i went through a series of random reboots and finally did a adb factory reset, plus hard factory reset I unrooted and rooted again. Seems now i have an issue with Gallery.apk I cannot view images on my sdcard. so of course i use QuckPic for gallery purposes. But i cannot set any picture as a wallpaper. I can only use live wallpaper. If i try to set a picture as wallpaper my phone locks up and reboots itself.
The myTouch Q is getting the ICS upgrade in Q2 2012, any idea if the myTouch will get the same upgrade since the phones are very similar?
I believe the LG Mytouch and the Mytouch Q are pretty much the same. Aside from the 3.8 screen, front facing camera and lack of keyboard on the MyTouch. i dont see why it wouldnt get the upgrade.
Where did you see the mytouch Q getting a ICS upgrade?
Here is the article i saw yesterday:
http://www.gsmarena.com/lg_reveals_android_ice_cream_sandwich_update_schedule-news-3574.php
I would assume as well the mytouch would be updated along with the Q being they are very similar.

Weird issue, I actually froze my gallery via root uninstaller as I dont like or use it at all. I just use quickpic for all photo viewing. But when going through quickpic i CAN still set wallpapers from any photo on SD. Sounds like something was removed on your end that was needed. Have you tried to adb push gallery.apk and maybe ImageEditor.apk.

Yeah its a very weird issue. Yeah maybe ill just freeze the app so i dont have to see it anymore. I did try to push gallery.apk back onto the phone to no avail. Same thing. I did not try to push imageeditor.apk , maybe ill give that a shot. We really need our own forum!

this is good info. I dont see the LG MYtouch on the list but i dont see the MyTouch Q .. but yeah i dont see why the update wouldnt work for the MyTouch.
I'm getting this phone out of warranty and the lack of ROMs/support makes me sad. I just got out of myTouch 3G slide (had a horrible dev section. Don't get me wrong. There are great ROMs and great people but just it is so...empty) and I was hoping to be in a decent dev environment again. It has decent specs so I was hoping for MIUI or CM (I made a topic in the CM forums asking).
Also, can someone link me to the rooting guide. Thanks!
Rooting guide is on the first post of this thread.

Oh my. I feel stupid....
I'm actually looking forward to this phone. I just hate the lack of ROMs. Also what recovery is installed when I do this root method? I can still do the good ol' nandroid backup/restore right?
No recovery works properly. Tried clockwork but it ended up formating my phone upon every reboot. So no nandroid. But u can always use titanium backup for root for now.
Id be happy with just a kernal we can overclcock with. I actually like the LG UI. After rooting, removing bloat
and running setcpu its quite snappy.

So sad. So is there anyway to get the phone back to stock? adb system format?
A overclocking kernel will be fantastic. My dream come true would be CM7 or maybe even CM9.
I did a quick google search and found out the processor is the same processor as Inspire 4G so I assume it is the 2nd gen snapdragon.
I actually swapped it out at Tmo. I couldn't sys format via adb. It would still format with stock recovery upon reboot.
Yeah there r a few devices I think that are using this scorpian proc. An overclock kern should be easy.
I would say ice cream sandwich with root and overclock would be ideal.
This keyboard is great. Reminds me of the ol G1 days

Maybe this guy can help form a recovery for our device

Maybe we contact him and get a fund going. Id be willing to donate some $ for a recovery and kernal.

was shopping for xmas and stopped by t-mo just browsing, ending up leaving with the new mytouch, lol. i like it, better than the htc branded ones. UI is pretty slick, would love to see some dev and rooting progress!
Im also looking forward to a few roms and kernals if we could get some devs in here glad to see peoples interest in the phone...

No, you cannot. Just root your phone it's pretty harmless and offers great benefits. It can also be reverted if you need to take your phone in.
You can use an app like aHome or PandaHome to get a somewhat theme like feel on the phone, but at a bit of a loss of performance.

Yeah, non root is stuck with the theming apps mentioned above, the majority of what you will find here applies to rooted phones, which there is nothing to it with apps like 'Simple Root" it does everything for you & it is well worth taking a few minutes to root...

It would be really cool if you could somehow have it flash back rooted stock.
Sent from my Inspire 4G or Desire HD or whatever this thing is called via XDA app.
That's exactly what it ends up as. It doesn't flash the Desire HD system or kernel, so it won't break sound, I don't think, and basically gives you the stock rom from the ruu with the exploitable radio which is exploited for S-Off then the stock radio flashed back and clockwork flashed.
Awesome indeed. By any chance will this allow for root without needing to install Clockwork, S-OFF or a "near stock" ROM? I have a feeling there will be many people that just want to root the factory ROM and not have it alter anything else.
If possible, can you also make a simple way to revert back to stock in the app? Like a 1-click "Warranty-On" button?

This may be possible without rooting... see general forum post "Wifi HotSpot works on Std ROM! no root needed" (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960058). I don't know if you have to have a specific data plan.
The tethering option worked until ATT switched me to the unlimited 4g plan. Now I get an error message. They also updated the imei into my account.

I'm going to say this as kindly as I can, but where there is a will there is a way and I've discovered that way, and that way is being developed at this very moment. Let's at least try to get along and not discourage the devs that are coming here to help you all out. Nobody said you needed a new exploit.
It makes me mad by the way to be banned by an IRC channel where I'm just trying to help.

You could have a duel boot setup to have both in one device, easier than switching backups. I'm gonna give this a run, any kernels work best for this?
Loaded this up, slow I expected. No on board keyboard that I got to work. The physical keyboard did not have functional numbers that I got to work. I could not get the power button to work either.Nice work though, looks good.
So, sent from my mobile. What's new?
sorry to bother, but i've a question.. i've got a samsung i9003 that has chipset mostly identical to droid, the rest of the hardware is different, i know, phone, gps, wifi, etc. it is possible to recompile kernel from milestone to samsung, knowing the differences, and adding the kernel modules to make it work? gingerbread for this phone is arriving next month, but no rom have been spotted, but i hopo... sorry to invade your section, but i wanted to ask to some developers and i hope a good reply... sorry for my english.
True, the original software isnt meant for phones BUT, he just managed to boot it on a phone, opening up the possibilty phone use. I want to know whats required to get it working.
I loaded up the rom and it works but there are missing elements, without them it is pretty much useless. I had no wifi or data so I could not load anything on it. Neat to play with though, needs a 1000 MHz kernel just to tinker with.
kind make me happy i made the choice of buying this phone in july last summer.
How about root access? Flashed another overclock kernel pushed setcpu but no root access
Very impressive although for phone use doesn't do much there. Plus I can't use the power switch to shut device on and off
did this project die? hopefully not just seems no development has happened in a while
Really, its not going to get any better than this. Only reason I ported it to my phone was because I wanted to see what it would look like. Then people started requesting ports. This was never and will never be anything close to a DD. Its just something fun to flash and play with for a minute, then go back to your ctual rom.

duh it is aosp huh, but not even letting me sign into google account, and im on cwm 3.1.0.1 and refuse to flash anything else so ill never be able to flash from cwm no browser so this is beta for sure
I said I was going to try this for a day but I could not get it working and I had a few personal issues
My review:
This is my little review
First off I want to say I had a major problem with the fact that there was warez everywhere in this rom. ADW EX, Root Explorer, and launcher pro plus where what I came across in the little time.
I think the moderators need to close this thread until it gets taken care of.
Besides that the ROM, well I couldn't even get it set up. Rom manager was outdated but couldn't update it in market because it would f/c so I could not flash gapps from rom manager constant browser f/c so I couldn't dl a gapps flashable (my computer is out) so I couldn't really use the rom fully
As for my impressions it looks like straight cm7 with a few warez apps and a couple fonts and a some animation changer that I didn't try but in previews looked cool
All in all I would call this ROM unstable and unusable for right now. Needs work. And I know you said you didnt add anything but these pay-for apps need to leave the ROM
I know this may sound harsh but it's only to make the ROM better. I hope you take what I have to say into consideration
I went checked out the original rom for the evo and it has all the warez apps in it. So he was being honest. I think that one should be locked as well, until those apps can be removed.
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
Idk, it seems really cool to have some of those paid apps built in... I know for one I Wouldn't mind the rom being built around apps I already use or want to use.

Thread Re-opened, OP fixed the rom deleting the paid apps.
I have to say that he didn't on purpose, he used the other source rom (under investigation) and in good faith he didn't check it, well i say that sometimes it could happen, anyway, i asked him to remove the paid apps that i've found, if someone think that there are some others, please, pm me or OP so he can fix it.
Thanks all for cooperation and thanks to OP.

Yea i get it you were just porting the rom that already had the warez in there.
Sorry if in my post I made the fustration pointed at you that wasn't my intention lol.
If i remember my problem was getting GAPPS to download. there was no way for me to do it.
I had tried ROM manager to flash GAPPS and that wouldnt work because it said ROM manager was an "outdated" version.
So i tried to go to the market and that would F/C "which made me need gapps more" and then the browser would force close so i couldnt actually download a flashable zip for GAPPS. So i could never actually get it set up.
Hope that helps.
For me it was just a few different problems that ended up all coming together
Whenever I flashed it and linked my Google account, it popped a prompt asking if I wanted to download gapps and then popped a list of them for me to select from.

-Root! (Superuser permissions fully functional, but you cant write the /system directory)
-Honeycomb UI (Thanks Syndicate Apps!)
-Awesome Volume Editor (Allows you to Emulate Beats Audio, Increase overall sound, etc. It has many great features! Its like a better DSP Manager)
-Google Docs - I know I use it, if you all feel it to be useless, I will remove it in the Next Release!
-Apps2SD GUI (Credits go to the developer of the app, and your SD Card must be partitioned, DO NOT TRY TO PARTITION EXTERNAL SD BUILT INTO THE TABLET)
-GetJar App - This app gives you paid games for free LEGALLY! GetJar has been around since the old .jar game days (games/apps that ran on phones with keypads lol) and is under no circumstances illegal or Warez related!
-Working Gmail - I dont know if this was just me, but I had issues with Gmail on the original Firmware, so I added a better one!
-FULLY FUNCTIONAL Market - There are major issues with the 3.0+ releases of the Android Market, so this is the OLD market, until I find a fix for it!
-Google Music/Video (4.0) - I didnt like the original Music and Video Apps, so I added Google's, they are much smaller and look WAY better, and are fully functional.
-AdFree - Remove ads from your apps (This is a root app and has been around for a while)
-The Real Kobo App - The original NP7 optimized Kobo wouldn't let you import books, so I added the one that did!
-Youtube (The Real One) - Again, another crappy NP7 Optimized app replaced with the real, better one
-ICS Boot animation - May seem laggy in the beginning, but will speed up after a second!
-Internal Storage Increase - With the Stock Firmware, you only had 153 MB. I have increased it to approx. 210-215 MB! (HORRAY FOR MORE SPACE)
As Quoted by SgtfooIt's based on the first known rooted ROM for this device: 'DocHoppy's ROM'. Credit for most of this ROM goes to him and to 'Wendal' for his toolset for packing the ROM (into cramfs) for the Nextbook 7 Premium device.
This is release 1.0! Many more versions soon to come. Some features for Alpha2 Release are:
-More Google apps (For Pure Android Feel)
-Build Prop Edit (The NP7 is not seen as a tablet on the android market, so we cannot get tablet optimized apps, only stretched versions of the phone apps)
-More features to come!
-POSSIBLY port CM9's Trebuchet ICS Launcher to NP7 (No Promises on this one, may have to wait until a later release)
Thank you all for your support, if you would like to contribute to this projects by helping with the development (I dont want any donations lol) then please Inbox Me! Otherwise, please feel free to report any bugs/issues you ran across when using, and I will fix ASAP! Also, feel free to add suggestions for the Rom!
Thank you XDA
Also: If you are also a NP7 Dev, or know how to edit Kernels (We need better speeds as far as how fast the Tablet Goes), Boot Images (The specs said something about two 256 MB memory drives, I need to see if we can obtain access to the second Drive, to further increase space), Build Recoveries, Get access to the bootloader, etc. help would be much appreciated! Thank you again
Download HERE: HCFreemium7
Features for Alpha2 (Coming Soon) (Dont ask for ETA lol)
-Build Prop edits (Better battery life, access to Tablet apps in the market, etc.)
-Possible porting of Honeycomb apps (May have to wait until Alpha3/Beta1 Release)
-Honeycomb boot Animation
-A possible fix for the auto off softkey button backlights (I HATE THAT, ITS SO ANNOYING) (Again, another possible A3/B1 Release)
-Lock Screen Replacement (Honeycomb/ICS)
-Transparency features (Status bar, Settings Menu, etc.)
Thanks for your support. By the way, if you want a forum to discuss this stuff on, try mine! its relatively new, but all Nextbook tablets have a forum section. Feel free to tell your friends/random Nextbook owners about it

#2... yah!
Anyways, I want to thank you for your work as well as Doc Hoppy. I just flashed his ROM today, and then a few hours later I see yours. I am downloading it now and will check it out tonght or tomorrow.
I am glad that all of the sudden people are taking an interest in custom ROMs on the NP7. I am not a dev, but if there is anything I can do to help further this along, I am more than willing to do so.
FYI, market on Doc Hoppy's worked and was 3.x.x
Again, thank you! I will report any bugs.

Sorry, if you put the update.img on your external SD it does nothing. It needs to be put on the internal SD card.
First impressions... looks real good. I like the look better than the GB look, especially since I am running ICS on both of my phones. A little sluggish at times, but not too bad. Keep up the great work! If I come across anything else, I will let you know. About to run Titanium Backup to restore my apps.

Great to see more people making roms for the n7p!!
I'm gonna help the process by letting a Linux-expert friend of mine look into changing the stock file system from cramfs to something else.
We would likely be on to something much more usable at that point.
Titanium backup worked just fine. Only hick-up was the shortage of memory, so half way through it I had to move apps to SD. Thought TB would put them back on sd where I had them in the first place. Not that big a deal though.

This is great. I am away for a few days and busy and look what happens!
Lol!
What serial number range is your rom for?
Keep up the great work! if it helps the version of market I have running
in my rom is 3.4.4
From what I have learned....
"I was reading on a chumby forum someone suggested using mkfs.jffs to make it writable, but further down it notes that you would need to change the kernel (easy enough to recompile I think), to utilize a different file system. The boot loader would also need to be modified, something I am not ready to try and tackle just yet, I think I would be bricking my nextbook pretty quickly."
I think also part of the issue maybe that we need the source code/kernal from the mfg to do this.....
Quoting myself here. I have been researching this to try and tackle the issue, I am still learning alot.
Anything I can do to help, let me know!
Cheers!

I'm gonna check on that (as far as serial # range), I used your from as a base so I think its whatever your range is.! Also, a build prop edit would be nice, so that we can actually get tablet apps, not enlarged phone versions, I'm researching. Now, going off of your quote:
Kernel - My only issue with a kernel is the fact that we have no hboot/recovery, so a kernel screw up could make our tablets a 7 inch paper weight.
(Not mentioned) Recovery Image - upon rooting my grandmothers kindle fire, I learned of a new method called bootable SD, which basically means u burn the recovery image to an SD card (physical, ejectable SD, not internal memory or external SD built into tablet), and when u want to boot into recovery, you turn off the device, plug in the SD card, and turn on the device to boot into recovery.! It would be awesome to be able to do that.!
Boot loader - HELL NO.!!! One mistake equals insta-brick.!
So I asked xxProphecyxx this, but would you be interested in collaborating to make a rom, I think we could make an amazing one together.!!

I think a collaboration is a great idea. I am no dev, but I will help where I can. I have already decompiled both of your ROMs and took some stuff out and added some stuff, then recompiled and flashed them just for fun. Trying to learn new things. What I did though is really no different than installing/uninstalling apps, added some notification media [don't like stock], and changed boot animation.
Let me know if there is anything to help with.
This sucks for me, I think my Next7p is older than your guy's....I've tried all 3 roms and they all show up invalid. (Serial YF0511...) My tablet is sluggish everything from scrolling to loading pictures...So I'm out of luck for a new tablet experience as I don't know how to work with any of these tools. I'll still lurk around and hopefully I can find a rom that works with mine in the future. thanks for your work!
So after messing around compiling a ROM, I forgot to add a launcher, and now I am stuck in a bootloop. After the girl in the dress is there for awhile, I get a black screen, then reboot. Anyone now how to fix this? I have been searching Google, but can not find anything yet.
Any help would be great!

Ahhhh, dang dude, I don't know.! Okay so we really need to get the ball rolling. I'm not a dev either, but I am learning.! In the mean time, head to the nook color forums and ask them about the boot able recovery via SD.! Also, I will talk to my friend saridnour about recovery image porting.! The ball is rolling on this project.

Well, I searched the nook color threads and there wasn't anything relavent that I could use. I even tried putting a stock update.img on a SD card, but that did nothing either. I think I may have a really expensive paper weight now.
Give me alil time and ill see what I can do.!

What about recompiling the image with a launcher, then put the update.img on the sim card and boot in up. Or, I am sure there is a firmware update mode combination holding a few buttons while powering it on.
I have make a few different Roms for the Dell Streak 5, and I am working on breaking this image down and making another custom Rom. I am not a full Dev, but I enjoy making things run better. Let me know if I can assist more.

Very unlikely since it is different internals and size.
