CDMA Workshop software is PAID software, you have to either find it yourself, have someone who has the licensed version, or buy it yourself.
Virgin Mobile on your Samsung Epic 4G- THE Tutorial 1.3
This guide uses the Virgin Mobile Intercept, there have been other threads spawned with their own tuts with different phones, as of now, this is the other phone:

Wildfire S
Are you better with looking at visuals? Another user re-made this tut with pictures.

What You'll Need:
Virgin Mobile Samsung Intercept [Owned]-Purpose: (This will be your Epic's new Identity. We'll need the HA and AAA keys.)
(Modifed Driver of PC Studio 3-Download Here)
Samsung Epic 4G [Owned]-Purpose: (Needed to Reprogram, so you can enjoy Sprint Prepaid.)
(Common Sense, but the corresponding Epic Drivers,)
Connectbot (Android Market) [Free]-Purpose: (For Intercept, only if you don't know Donor Phone's SPC/MSL, because you need to know it.)
Anycut.apk (Android Market) [Free]-Purpose: (For Intercept, This app will work half the magic needed to dump your Intercept's unique AAA key.)
CDMA 2.7+ (Find on your own) [Paid]-Purpose: (You'll need this to read your Epic's Settings, changing a few things that may not change in QPST)
QPST Build 355 (Download Here) [Free]-Purpose: (QPST is where you'll be programming your Epic.)
QXDM (Download Here) [Free]-Purpose: (EXCERSIZE WITH CAUTION! only needed if you have problems repairing your ESN with CDMA)
ADB Standalone (Download Here) [Free]-Purpose: (If you don't have ADB on your laptop/desktop, this is the best alternative, without needing SDK)
**WARNING!!** Updating your Epic's Modem will break your 3g settings, which will require you re-program with QPST!!**
Now that you understand what you need and you have obtained everything,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I will not tell you how to change your ESN however, if you bork your Epic's ESN, this link will show you what to do for repairing it. To each their own if you decide to mess around and change it.
#1 This needs to be done FIRST! if you save it for last (like i did) you'll have to re-enter all the M.I.P. Settings!! (Uses QPST and QXDM)
http://mobile5.in/forums/index.php?/topic/255-meid-esn-repair-for-samsung-epic-4g/
side-note, you can easily google the 16-digit Samsung Default code, also needed for Step 1.
You'll want to zero out your ESN as stated in that link above. To each their own, as I cannot endorse or encourage changing ESNs, it's ultimately up to YOU the end-user if you choose to modify it to the Intercept's ESN. If you feel that violates your privacy, your reading of this tutorial is over. If you understand, read on.
********************************************************************************************************
#2 You need to read the Donor-Phone's AAA keys if you want 3G service (these can't be google'd, it's specific to your serviced account when your donor phone is activated.
On your PC, download ADB Standalone, made by an XDA User. (No installation needed.) What we will need is PC Studio 3 for your Intercept, but DON'T plug in your Intercept just yet, if you do, you may get PC Studio 3 downloaded for your intercept from Windows Update we DONT WANT THAT ONE, use the link I provided of the modified version which is what is needed for ADB to logcat with your intercept.
Don't panic, the driver takes a while to install! Before you connect your Intercept, it's important to note that if any of you geeks google'd how to get it into PDA/Modem, you didn't have to, as we aren't taking that route, just for your knowledge, it's ##8778# on the Epic, and ##PORT# on the Intercept.
Make sure it's on PDA for USB. Make sure the Intercept's USB Debugging is on under Settings->Applications->Development->USB Debugging.
NOW. On Your Intercept, you should have downloaded both Connectbot and Anycut from the Android Market. IF you know your intercept's SPC/MSL, skip this, if not, open connectbot, choose whatever nickname like "android", select local, and type: "getprop ril.MSL" without quotes, case-sensitive. What comes up is your SPC/MSL code. Jot that down on Paper or Notepad, (or both.) It's important for your other app.
Now, after you've installed anycut on your Intercept, on your homescreen, press down and click on "shortcuts" select "anycut shortcuts" and then click on activity. You'll get a long list of things that you can access on your phone. Scroll down till you see "DATA" more than one work, but select the second "DATA" on that list. It will ask for the SPC/MSL code that you wrote down earlier. type that in, and you'll see view, edit. we want to hit edit, but DONT edit anything!!! from there, STOP. Go to your PC, and with adb open, type "adb >logcat" or simply "logcat" you'll get a mumbo jumbo of text going down, which is a log of your phone's current actions. Hit your Username and click to edit, but CANCEL and DONT save.
Congratulations!! You now have the AAA key unique to your Intercept dumped! Read through the log, you'll see "vmug33k" somewhere in there, that's the HA key, (needed) and the AAA key will show up multiple times near it. like "aaa pw:abcde12345"
Be sure to jot down both your HA key, and AAA key most importantly! Save it, write it, email it to yourself, make a song about it, whatever you have to do to not lose your AAA key.
********************************************************************************************************
#3 CDMA Workshop is needed for MIN and Direct Number writing, useful to write your prl. (be sure to have SPC)
Know what com port your Epic is connected to, select it from the cdma software, if you don't know, look for it under Device Manager--> COMs and Ports)
If you don't see it there, try disconnecting your epic, dialing ##8778# move your USB--Modem/PDA to PDA. Connect your epic to the PC, then dial ##8778# it SHOULD recognize now, I've done it about 30+ times, never fails, so if it is failing for you, make sure you don't have QPST open, as it could be making the com port busy. To avoid COM issues, don't have other USBs plugged in. Also be sure you have the CDMA Technologies and CDC Serial installed when you plug in your epic, as you do need your epic drivers.
Once you're connected, read from phone. Check the Nam tab, make sure the MIN and Directory number are right, not much you can do here unless you have the newest CDMA, which then means you can do all the QPST things from CDMA workshop without QPST. It still carries alot of good info. Plus, you'll need it for writing your PRL in it at least. Use the latest Sprint EVDO PRL under "www.corolada.com/prl" to each their own if you want to google your intercept's PRL and try and find it yourself, or the famous 01115.prl up to you.
********************************************************************************************************
#4 QPST is needed for programming, you need at least QPST 2.7 Build 355. IF your phone isn't recognized and it comes up as "unknown" and tells you to choose, you have the OLD/WRONG VERSION. For those who don't usually use QPST, install the setup, add a port, according to what you need, if you're on COM3, then you'd add new port... where it says com, you type "COM3" then save. If a phone pulls up under COM3 in this case, then that's your phone correctly recognized as a modem! On the Start Clients Tab, hit Programming Services. Another window will pop up, showing that you want to work with the phone on COM3 or whatever COM you're on. Your Epic should be recognized as: FFA6550-ZRF6500. Hit ok. Alright, now, under the M.I.P. Tab:
M.IP -
profile 0:
enabled:no, nai:blank,ha spi:3, aaa spi: 2,
rev tun: no, home:0.0.0.0, primary:dynamic
profile 1: (active)
enabled:yes, nai:[email protected],ha spi:21EF,
aaa spi:21EF, rev_tev tun: yes, home:0.0.0.0,
primary:not set
profile 2:
same as 1 with nai: [email protected]
In the MIP tab, make sure you're: MOB IP Only!!!
Now go to the PPP Config Tab:
pppconfig:
rm,um same
an - userid is [email protected]
although password is blank, it is present.
Write to Phone. Don't Disconnect phone until it reboots to Samsung Boot Logo. That Should be it, you're done!!
As of January 21, 2012, this is the latest VM prl in my area, (Oregon, USA) 61007.prl

MMS WORKS thanks to Brooksyx, be sure to throw him a thanks!
As of 2-19-2013, you're required to use CyanogenMod 9 or 10 if you want MMS. (10.1 still experimental)
MMS Thread below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1491189
Troubleshooting:
Error 16? This can happen if you turn on the donor phone, (which you shouldn't!)
You'll need to get on VM Tech Support and have them reset your line, then call the Sprint Error 16 Department, they'll do the rest from their end. After this, turn BOTH cell-phones off for a few hours, do NOT turn on your donor phone on anymore unless it's a 911 emergency and your epic is dead. Proceed to turning on your epic from now on.
This is a security flag that goes off in rare cases, it has happened to me.
COM PORT ISSUES?
Make sure you don't have Diagnostic Ports only checked on QPST, and select the appropriate COM.
If all else fails, check your wire, your phone, and re-install drivers and software!
Thank you for all your input Qew! As a new member he was helpful in getting me to understand what all settings were important.

Shinydude100, have you tried manually putting the HA and AAA password in the phone in the ##3282# menu? When I first put the passwords on my phone it would get 1x then disconnect, even though the icon said 3G. I went to the menu opened each password and it was there so I clicked ok and rebooted the phone. Then it connect to real 3G.

Might not be necessary but optional check the following video by Msnuser111:
Differences I've noticed was that they wrote 2 NV Items, 1192 and 1194. Also, under nai, they also wrote down the meid for the tethered nai.
Even if you can't donate, I'd gladly accept your thanks.

i have an epic 4g and since yesterday a evo shift and an optimus v on my virgin mobile account . i get everything except mms.

I think MMS is supposed to be the easiest thing to "fix" I'll link you to threads I've found, after I go eat in a sec. Lol. Do you know if the Virgin Mobile "Donor" phone has to be a certain one, or if it has to be a smartphone? I was planning on using a basic virgin mobile phone as the donor..

My epic 4g is threw my virgin mobile account. The only way I got it to work with data talk and text. was using a samsung intercept. I tried with the rumor touch but there locked down so you can't extract the aa/ha keys. I still can't figure out the mms tho.

Hmm.. so if I try doing it through a Kyocera it may not work? Its got 3G, so while not a "smartphone" the general setup settings needed for input are widely available with google and within XDA forums.
I'm just tired of not being able to appreciate my Epic. I love my phone and the 3G radio is like-new. Never used it since I bought it brand new. Been roaming with 1x service using a prepaid carrier that *hint hint* doesn't exist in the state of Oregon, hence, I think its time I switch over to prepaid with Sprint.

I tried it with the rumor touch (also 3g) and rumor 2. I wasn't able to extract the aa keys with either phone. Then I bought a very cheap samsung intercept and set up my old account on that phone and was easily able to extract the keys. My phone hasn't had any trouble with data loss or text not comming in either. I still have yet to get the mms set up right tho. Even copied the apn from the virgin mobile phone and nothing still.

Thanks for the info guys. I'll get that Samsung Intercept, and then I'll hunt down an MMS fix and share it with everyone.

i have been looking for instructions on doing such a task
any good links with a walk through on doing things?

Hi, I was also thinking about using an Epic 4G on VM but never got around to it.
Anyway, I think the MMS issue can be resolved if you use the mms.apk from a custom ROM for the LG Optimus V.
I can post one if you want.

If someone gets mms working ill do a backflip. I've tried the optimus v's cm7 mms apk, telephony db,and a couple more ideas with no luck. I don't understand why flashing to vm isn't more popular of a topic. I too am on the 25 dollar plan and love it. My favorite is when someone is showing me their phone and i show them mine, then I say what do you pay a month? the look on their face when i say that sucks I only pay 25 sucker.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium

Have you tried the latest mms.apk from a Gingerbread Optimus ROM?
Sent from my LG-VM670 using XDA App

I have not tried using the newer mms.apk ill give that a try
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App

It may not be entirely Virgin Mobile's fault. MMS.apk isn't the only thing needed, even when you're just using sprint. If you notice in System/App there's MMS.APK and MMSprovision. APK so if Virgin Mobile has their own provision (which they probably do, that's a good chance in getting mms to work, if they don't have MMSprovision. APK, then perhaps someone can backup their sprint version and delete it to check if that works. I won't quit till we have it working. Lol especially now that I'm switching to Virgin Mobile. Already ordered a Samsung Intercept off Amazon.

Well it didn't work for me. I guess its time to dust off the intercept and look threw some more files. The methods for setting up boost mms didn't work either. I know a different carrier but hey can't hurt to try. Every where I look it says it has to do with the apn but so far none I have tried work.

What APN setting did you use? I had a similar MMS issue when Gingerbread was first ported to the LG Optimus V.

I first tried backing up the apn settings from my intercept then applying them to my epic 4g. Also tried manually putting them in Didn't do nothing. Ill know when I get a picture message cause it comes in as a few text messages but all jibberish

Yeah that would happen to me too. Have you tried GoSMS and manually putting in the APN setting and the User Profile Url?

[Tutorial] Reconnect to 4G much faster!!!

If you don't have your msl code call Sprint first and ask for it, they sould'nt tell you no, but if they do just call back till you get someone else.
Please Record your original settings before changing anything so you can change it back if you don't like it, and please don't mess with anything else unless know what you are doing.
Go to the Dialer and put in: ##3282#
(optional) Do the Skyfire Video fix if you would like by removing Sprint's Proxy filter, Go to Multimedia and type in your msl code and clear out RTSP Proxy Address and hit ok it should now say <Not set>
Now change RTSP Proxy Port to 0 and hit ok. (optional)
Now, if you did the first part press the back key and go to WiMAX and enter msl code. Then, go to Extensions and change the following settings for faster reconnection of 4g:
You don't need to put in all of the 0's before the actual number this is only what it looks like afterwards. For example ScanAttemptTimeOut you should only have to put in the number 5 and press ok, for EntyRx don't for the - before 89.
ScanAttemptTimeOut: 00005
ScanRetries: 00001
IdleSleep: 00300
EntyRx: -00089
EntryCINR: 00004
EntryDelay: 00001
ExitCINR: 00008
EntryDelay: 00001
ExitCINR: 00008
ExitDelay: 00300
All done Exit and If promted Reboot.
Beware that If you plan on running 4g constantly then you should probably not use these settings
because It will run down your battery if your in a poor 4G location.
If anyone thinks I left out any important information please post below.
Anyways enjoy!

Immediately, and It will continue scanning untill it does.
There are no timeouts thats why I say if your not in a 4G area it will burn your battery down if you leave it on.
For those who don't have their MSL here's how: (I know it will be asked)
1. Download ConnectBot from the market.
2. Open it up. From the dropdown box, choose 'local'. You can give the connection a name. Then press 'enter' or 'done'.
3. type "getprop ril.MSL" and hit enter. There's your MSL.

Thank you for this information.
You can also do it through adb.
adb shell getprop ril.MSL
There was also an app on the market if you search MSL. It's probably still there.
I donno if it's making a difference yet, but I did it. Thanks for posting!

If this is what you are talking about, it states it only works on HTC devices.
MSL Reader:
"This program reads your Master Subsidy Lock (MSL) code for your CDMA Android phone. It requires root to read this code.
This application will only work on HTC CDMA devices like the Hero, EVO and Incredible."
can someone please post the stock settings?
I forgot to copy mine, I did this and my 4g will not connect
NVM I was a dork and didnt reboot.
I think it works, thanks for posting [=

Can you elaborate on this more? As much as I hate the lag that the phone experiences when connecting and disconnecting from 4G while driving around, I don't know if I want the phone trying to hard that it cooks the battery. It sounds more like it makes it try to connect more persistantly vs actually connecting faster.
Here are the Wimax default settings on my epic

ScanRetries: 00120
IdleSleep: 00010
EntyRx: -00089
EntryCINR: 00004

This part only removes sprints proxy filter which keeps sprint from filtering things on the web such as, litmiting your access to only certain websites. I am unsure if it would help with data or connection speeds or not, but every thing works fine for me.
If your 4G connection goes out, the settings on the second part of my Instructions will allow your phone to keep on searching instead of waiting 300 seconds in between tries. There are other tweaks in there, I just don't remember off hand what they all are. I know that wimax entry rx -89 is how low the signal can get before 4G is to dissconnect, at -90 it would hold onto 4G longer but your signal would be too low in that range to be of much benefit.
thank you nice tutorial

I just changed Proxy Address from rtsp.vog.sprntpcs.com to leaving it blank and then Proxy from 554 to 0, reset the phone and nothing seems different. I guess I need to start browsing the web, but I wasnt aware anything was blocked. Do all phones have the same address and numbers set from the factory? You mentioned Skyfire video fix, so does this mean I can stream from HULU now?
I'll hold off on the 4G changes until it gets better in my area.
any way to change these settings so that i can use 4g all the time but also have it connect faster (but not kill my battery)
Taboo8614 - I'd love to have 500hp in my car and still get 30MPG, but that's not going to happen. If you want speed, you've gotta pay to play. Being that the phone is constantly trying to reconnect vs timing out and waiting means that the phone is always going to be busy doing something, hence the drain.
Danny - So I did what you suggested and now that I've been out and about today, I've got no service whatsoever. I've tried going to the web, but it constantly says that I have no data connection. I'm going to reenter the information that I deleted and hopefully everything is restored.

No, this has nothing to do with how hulu works, hulu has the ability to recognize that you are using the android version of flash player and is set to block access to their content. There is a modified version of flash player floating around for android 2.2 Froyo that will fool hulu into thinking its the desktop version of flash.
Oh and 4G is not so great in my area thats why I set my phone to these settings. At my house I only get 1-2 bars signal on 4G and it would allways drop out and never want to connect back.

LG G2X and Simple Mobile

Hello,
I'm new to dealing with phones or doing anything advanced with them. My last one was a samsung code that I used at metropcs. I've upgraded to the LG G2X and have an active account with Simple Mobile. I have a problem that I am hoping some one here can help me with.
I cannot use data. No web or mms. Of course according to the instructions on their site for android phones, you have to edit or creat a new APN for use on their network. However, when I try to edit the default T-Mobile US apn it just says, "Default APN cannot be modified." and I can't change any of the settings.
Now what I can do is create ANOTHER APN but after creating on according to the instructions on their site and saving it. I can see the newly created APN but it doesn't look to be active. The T-Mobile US apn has a green dot next to it showing it is active but not the new apn that I created. I thought about a setting to make the new one the default or activating it in addition to the tmobile one but I cannot find a way to do that. HELP. Thanks in advance.

You should just be able to tap your new APN that you've set up and get the green dot to show. I'm not sure how locked down the G2x is, but it sounds strange you can't even edit the APN.
Well the settings from their site were correct. The android configuration is what was needed. It's not obvious how you activate the APN though. The technical support rep helped me figure it out but even he was like, "You have to get the green dot on that new APN. Try to drag it or just touch it.." Well you have to touch the radial button where the green dot should go, however, that is not good enough. You have to hold it down for awhile. Just the button. Then you get the green activation dot. There you have it.
Thanks for the help. You were correct, as was my assumption.

Good job mate, now go and enjoy it!
Hit the thanks button for ya. Your insight was much appreciated. This phone is light years ahead of my old samsung code. I've been meaning to obtain an android cell phone for awhile, I'm glad I got this one. The gps functions on these things are absolutely incredible. The web browsing on it is so nice. The only thing I can hope for now is RF radio reception. I've been checking the net periodically (which leads me back to this forum often) to see if there's progress. That would be a nifty function as everyone carries there cell with them. If you want tunes, being able to grab it from your cell is very convenient. <----(I imagine I'm getting a little off topic here lol). Well, see you later. Thanks again.

You've certainly picked a winner. LG aren't exactly known for their build quality but they've put together a nice package in the G2x. Also, I love that it runs stock Android and doesn't have a Skin/Launcher over the top. Means you'll get updates quicker and you're free to do whatever you like. I am pretty sure it has an FM radio built in, you just have to plug in the headphones to work as an antenna.
Many thanks for the 'thanks' too, good of you
Enjoy mate, feel free to hit me up if you think I can help.
Oh and PS, welcome to XDA
I was trying to hold this button or just click this button and it turns grenn. But what happens is I reboot, then I'm trying to use internet, browser opening one page (sometimes not even that), I'm going to apn settings again and seeing that the green button back to t-mobile again.... For some reason it is automatically switching back to original settings. I do have a new apn saved in there too.....
I think I know what you're saying here. In other words, you are using the APN that you set up to work with Simple Mobile but it keeps switching back to the T-Mobile APN right? If so, I'm having the same problem--a lot of people are. It started happening right after the update to 2.3 Gingerbread. What someone ought to do is, make something so that the stock T-Mobile APN can just be edited.
By the logic that is the only way. Probably to do that we need to root the phone and make changes in APN folder.... But that's on the paper.
Is there any way out of this issue?? I really love the G2x but its almost impossible to use data as it keeps switching T-mobile APN.. Can we delete the T-mobile APN if we Root the phone??
I'm not sure if there's a way to edit the apn or delete it for that matter. Here's what I've done as a work around. It's pretty generic but it's working. I simply reboot my phone only every several days; when I do, I switch it back to the simplemobile apn, then I use all kinds of stuff like:gps, internet, etc. It will at times, switch on me 2-4 times but once it stays, it stays as long as I don't reboot.
Otherwise I think this is happening to other android cell phones as well. I bet they'll provide a fix for it. It's something related to this edition of the OS if you ask me, else it would have done this on other versions as well.

Ocean .. you are AWESOME. it worked like a charm , i kept searching around until i found your post, i'm gonna post this in another thread on here about the same issue if you don't mind. i'm sure many people are experiencing this issue
glad i didn't have to root ..why? my name says it all
Thanks for that compliment. Great choice in phone btw. Mine is doing everything that I need it to do and more. Emailing works, gps works, texting works, surfing the web works etc. It's like having a tiny little laptop at your constant disposal
If you like some of the games that can be played on these things, try Dragon Fly. You can find it at the android market for free. I've been having a blast with it. I'm ranked number two in 90650 zip code
Thanks for the tip about holding down the button until it turns green. Indeed it worked for me too. I actually think I had to just keep pushing it rather than hold it. It also takes a minute while the system resets the services. I rebooted for the heck of it too.
Another tip: Someone in a thread says "APN Manager" app fixes any problems for rooted users who have Gingerbread. Some custom roms don't need it though. More solutions are discussed here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=18842276&posted=1#post18842276
I'm sticking to Froyo for now because of this. Just tested GPS and Internet walking around the block. A+++!
Yeah, the phone is pretty darn good. It's got a good size screen, great graphics, and it's not TOO big. I've seen some phones and they're borderline tablet lol. Would have been good for them to not have made the apn uneditable, and it would have been a good idea for them to have included the FM radio. The European cousin has the FM radio capability but I guess when it was released for america, they purposely kept that disconnected . Bummer! Oh well, folks will just consume all kinds of bandwidth by using a radio ap

Easy step by step instruction on how to fix the APN issue on the G2X
No Root required No Flashing required . . .
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1#post21665981

Can someone try these QPST Instructions for me? Please and Thank-you! :)

I do not have a Droid Charge, so I can't test this myself, but I want to know if using these instructions allows you to access QPST Diag ability. I have a few clients that want me to flash their Charge over to Cricket. This should only take a few minutes.
First make sure you have installed QPST.
Creating a virtual COM Port for the phone diagnostics software:
0vermind said:
1. Boot the phone up regularly without the cable attached. There is no special button to press while booting.
2. Connect the phone to the PC with a USB data cable.
3. Open phone dialer.
4. Enter in **usbdiag (**8723424) and press the call button
Now this should bring up a screen with 2 sections each has three options, select CDMA Modem in each section and your computer should detect new drivers, and it may take up to 5 minutes for them all to finish, because once one is detected it brings a few more in and yeah.. there will be one left that will NOT install, don't worry about it, go into device manager and make sure that in modems there is one listed for your phone.[/I]
5. If you have the Android SDK kit on the PC, the drivers should install automatically, or be pulled from the phone.
6. Now Download and Install HW Virtual Serial Port HERE.
7. Once you have it downloaded and installed, open it up.
8. Click the Login button. The password should automatically be filled in and click OK.
9. Go to the Settings tab and make sure that NVT Enabled is unchecked and go back to the Virtual Serial Port tab.
10. To be safe, pick a COM port above 8, but less than 20.
11. Make sure the IP Address field reads 192.168.16.2 and the Port field reads 11008
12. Click the Create COM button and after a few moments you should now have successfully created a COM port for your Droid Charge.
If you get Error in the LAN Status field then you have not successfully installed the drivers for the phone, or the phone is not set in Modem mode. Also make sure USB debugging is turned on and stay awake while plugged in is on. (These are in the Development section of settings under Applications.)

When using QPST, don't let your phone go into sleep mode or it will lose connection.
1.) Open your Programs menu and go to QPST > QPST Configuration. If you do not see an active phone listed, select the "Ports" tab and click "Add New Port..." at the bottom right. Highlight the port you created for the Charge, then click "OK." If the port isn't listed, you might need to uncheck "Show Serial USB/QC Diagnostics Ports only."
2.) It should show the phone information. Under "Phone" column it shouldn't say No Phone. If it does, please make sure that all the steps were followed to the T, and that the phone is in CDMA Modem mode.
Please let me know if this works or not. All I want to know is what shows under the Phone section. If it shows "No Phone," please let me know if you re-checked all the steps and if the modem drivers are installed. Also let me know what the LAN Status is and RX and TX friends for VSP LAN and QUEUE in HW Virtual Serial Port.
If this will help some kind of development then ill be happy to do it, however it will take me an hour and a half to get home, plus the time to test this

Thanks!! And yes, it will. Because it will tell us a number of things. 1. If LTE devices still have a operatable CDMA Modem instead of relying on the SIM Card. 2. If it can be flashed to other CDMA Carriers, this will help people who do not want to leave Cricket, Sprint, etc.
Let me know if you get stuck on anything. I would like more than one person to try this, so if anyone is reading, please take a few minutes and post back your results.
I can't get it to work, but I am MOST LIKELY doing something wrong. Ill try it again tommorow and let you know.

Where did you get stuck at? Were you able to enter USBDIAG and select CDMA Modem?
The code for usbdiag is **87284 trying to connect with qpst now.
Edit: I'm not having any luck. Qpst says no phone.
Edit 2: I'm getting lan error in hw vsp and I followed the steps exactly.

edit: followed directions and get same LAN error... a "VIA Telecom USB Modem" shows in device manager so perhaps drivers didn't take? also USB debugging is on btw, will try again
edit2: port looks like it was created despite LAN error? device manager shows a "ELTIMA Virtual Serial Port (COM12)"

gonna try turning off LTE, maybe thats why no LAN connection
edit: tried again and HW VSP was in like a connnecting/error loop, then errored... VSP Rx=7502 and Tx=0, LAN Rx=0 and Tx=0, Queue Rx=0 and Tx=7502 and Baud keeps switching between 115200 and 38400
edit2: tried numerous times with same result of LAN status error... all drivers and programs installed properly, phone is in CDMA MODEM mode in both sections, tried doing this both with LTE on and 3G only, Modem and Port both show up in device manager however no LAN connection and "No Phone" in QPST
Yep that's exactly what I was getting. OP, where did you learn of this method?

This method is for phones that do not have diag mode such as the Droid X, Droid X2, etc. It also works without needing the Virtual COM Port on phones that have build in Diag mode like HTC phones, and anything with CM7 on it.
The fact that it keeps going back to lan error, but allows some packets to go through, tells me that the SIM card is now in charge of all network operations and it holds information such as towers, etc. Which sucks. I had a Droid Charge in my possession for 8 hours and I tried everything I could think of to get the damn thing to register on QPST, looks like they changed how the network communicates with LTE devices.
Sorry guys! This is really frustrating, but it makes sense for Verizon to do it this way, slowly transitioning away from pure CDMA is a good move.

VIA/Spirent PST
The Samsung i406/i510 and some others use the VIA schipset which is non-Qualcomm compliant that's why you can't communicate with it through QPST/QXDM etc... need the original VIA/Spirent PST to turn the RUIM NV-only option on to force the phone into using the NAM parameters from the NV and not from the LTE sim card. In addition to the NV you also have to switch the modem to cdma by dialing **583
If anyone has some info about VIA/Spirent PST please share it.

hope you guys gets some results on this~~~
Where to find INTF2 dirver?

- work around for tmobile tethering upsell -

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1529083
Above is my original post when I first encountered the upsell popup. After contacting T-Mobile, they really had no answer for me as they said I was the first to approach them about it. The rep. checked through his notes and found nothing. He agreed to follow up with me to see if any changes and when he called I suggested my theory. I found that if you have "View desktop pages" checked (in the stock browser app press the menu key and you should see this option), you will recieve this popup. By un-checking that option, you will not receive the popup BUT, now you will more than likely end up on a mobile site rather than the desktop site. I still have found out how to work around having the option selected but not receiving the popup. Any ideas??? Please share!!

that would make sense since t-mobile detects your browser's user agent string to determine if you are wifi tethering. we just have to wait for either chrome to change their UA string or for t-mobile to stop detect wifi tethering like that

If they start blocking people from full web pages then they may have to re-think their approach to charging for tethering!

+1 this can most definitely run off customers. I hate mobile views of websites.
That would be a deal breaker!!!
Oh for sure! Would those of us at tmo who are on custom rooms still be blocked from full web sites? This is taking it too far! Ridiculous! Come on what else will they do? I hate mobile versions.now I'm reconsidering my provider, I'm tmo but after my contract who knows? This control has gone too far,

I figured out how to make it work for a different, but related problem I had.
This was my solution:
The way I got it to work:
1. Selected Default T-Mobile Data APN
2. Delete all of the information from the APN type
3. Reboot Phone

Good suggestion, one caveat, you should be advising folks to back up or at the least, write down the APN info in case they have problems.

Yeah backing up is always a smart thing to do just in case. However there is an option to revert back to default settings when you press the menu so there shouldn't be too much to worry about. Good suggestion nevertheless!
Revert back to default is one of my favorite setting!

So I don't know if this was expected since it was only a tempfix but i can't access it on any apn now even after rebooting...
Guess I need to look to upgrade to a Galaxy Nexus now...
Anyone had success in finding a new fix?

HTC Thunderbolt on PPC with 3g without using CDMAWS paid version

Ok everybody, after a few days of tinkering around with the help of many different forums and threads (sorry, i cant possibly start thanking individuals cuz i went through so many threads) i finally got my htc thunderbolt on PPC with 3g working. this is how
1.) remove the 4g sim card (if you have it) from the thunderbolt
2.) aquire all of the drivers you need for the thunderbolt and DM mode (hint, use htc sync)
3.) on the phones dialer dial ##3424# and press send
4.) hit the button that says reboot to modem+diag mode
5.) when your phone is plugged into the computer, has all the drivers installed, and is picked up in the device manager as 2 com ports
A.) The voice, text, and 1x com port is the htc diagnostic
B.) the 3g/4g com port is htc diagnostic 9k
6.) aquire a copy of cdmaws (2.7 is fine, there is a cracked version floating around, just use google no warez links
7.) open up cdmaws and connect to the non 9k port and connect
8.) go to the security tab and input your spc (000000) and click send, should say unlocked
9.) go to the other tab and under R-UIM Config make sure you select NV only then click write
9.) write all your nam settings, mdn, min, sid, nid, imsi and etc etc (other posts here at xda have all the details) repeat for name 2
10.) go to the other tab and under prl make sure it says universal and nam1
11.) click write and locate your pageplus evdo prl file (i used 51720) repeat for nam2
12.) go to the main tab and click disconnect but DO NOT CLOSE CDMAWS!!!!!!!
13.) connect the 9k port and repeat steps 8-12 but dont read, just write (all of your settings should still be on the screen)
14.) close cdmaws after all the settings are written to the phone
15.) find a copy of qpst 2.7 build 366 (again, google is your friend) and install it
16.) open up qpst configuration and click add new port
17.) find your non 9k com port click it once then click ok
18.) at the top go to start clients->service programming
19.) click ok then click read, click ok on the pop up that comes up
20.) go straight to the m.ip tab and create a new profile (or edit the one that shows up if it shows up) make it look like the screenshots i have below
21.) write the profile
22.) go to the PPP config tab and put *your 10 digit page plus phone number*@vzw3g.com for your nai and *your 10 digit phone number*@dun.vzw3g.com for teth. nai. password is vzw for um and an tab.
23.) close service programming and select the com port in configuration and remove it, close qpst configuration
24.) get a copy of dfs tools (demo is perfectly fine)
25.) see screenshots included at bottom of post
26.) make sure you start with the non 9k port, write what you need. and change ports to the 9k port without closing dfs tools, write everything to the 9k port (to be sure i pressed write for everything about 30 times but i may have been a bit excessive
27.) now activate the thunderbolt on your pageplus account by taking the last digit off of the imei number and they'll take it.
28.) insert ANY sim card into the sim card slot (NOT A VERIZON 4G ONE) i used a old nextel one to be honest
29.) turn on phone and dial *#*#4636#*#* and click phone information. change to cdma auto (prl) and close out.
30.) make a phone call and BAM 3g picks up and authenticates
Sorry if this guide isnt easy to follow, im not too good with wording things, lol. but it gives enough info for others to help including me.
also make sure under wireless and networks-> mobile networks-> that data roaming is allow for all trips, network mode is cdma only, and system select is automatic b

Thanks for the hard work you have done deathrow1993 ,I have been around in circles with this, It looks like you have come up with the answer. I have 2 questions for you.. 1: I have CDMAWS 3.9 a little different from the one you have..You mention go to the other tab and under R-UIM Config make sure you select NV only. In CDMAWS 3.9 the R-UIM config is on the main tap and there is also the button that gives the option of CDMA or CDMA2 or EDVO etc. and another button that gives the option of NAM1 and NAM2 .. Do I write to NAM1 and NAM2 under CDMA and CDMA2 and EDVO?? The last question 2: on the program page of DFS CDMA you have 765 2385692 in several fields is this the phone # thanks for all your work with this. I have had the 1X working for a bit now but getting tired of the slow speeds. Again thanks to you everybody else that has contributed to this... Merry XMAS

Thats my cell phone number. Forgot to edit the pictures i guess. If you have cdmaws 3.9 and its the paid version in order to get 3g go to the evdo tab and put yourphone#@vzw3g.com for all fields and vzw as the password. Then have pageplus do a esn reset and a data reset and 3g should work. If its not the paid version then the evdo tab wont write. It sounds like you already have talk and text working? also make sure if you write something (nv only, nam settings, m.ip, and ppp settings, anything) make sure you write to both nam1 and nam2.

no problem. just make sure youre on the stock rom so you can get diagnostic mode working. after everything is flashed i know its safe to flash a custom rom and even a new radio. i was on a bamf rom after 3g started working i then upgraded my radio from .9 to .19 and everything stuck. if you have any questions just keep me posted

Deathrow you can still get into diag mode with ICS roms and probably other non sense ones as well. Google "GScript Lite" and you can put your phone in diag mode without the reboot. I am with PPC too and love sense roms for ease of programming your phone without ever hooking it up to a computer but have run into losing data when flashing roms.

You are welcome, it's actually pretty easy to use and you don't have to reboot your phone.
Hi deathrow1993,
Thank you very much for your brief and simple tutorial...finally my Thunderbolt get 3G here in Jakarta.

Thanks again for your tips. I currently have voice and SMS working...Still trying to get data tho...
deathrow1993 if you ever make it near PDX I'm buying you a beer!
Process worked (took me awhile to find all the tools).
I haven't got a non-vzw-LTE SIM card yet so I have the Verizon one in there (wife's phone...keeps the phone from complaining) and it at least functions with text/voice for her.
I suspect it will start snagging 3G once I get the random SIM card in there.
Best part was that this avoided having to use the paid version of CDMA Workshop (their DEMO version you can download lets you mod only the CDMA pages, not the EVDO). I really didn't want to part with $99 just to program a used phone that isn't even mine
Thanks again! Learned a lot!
HTC Thunderbolt on Page Plus/w Voice/Text/MMS/Web
..Finally, after a week of trying to get data to work, IT WORKS!! HTC Thunderbolt on Page Plus 55$plan, Voice/Text/MMS/Web at 1xCDMA. I started with the tips from this thread and others alike, used cdmaws2.7, DFS4103, QPST366, and WirelessWorkshop dotcom. To be honest, it was the WirelessWorkshop remote software and the Technical help from them(Dwane was his name) that got this working. I could never get the com ports/diag driver's installed correctly. I thought they were but they weren't and WirelessWorkshop(Dwane the tech dude) connected to my pc through teamviewer and fixed my problem with the ports and drivers! Way more than I expected him to do since I only paid to use the software remotely. Before he fixed my pc I could only write to the htc diagnostic modem, not the 9K..So CHeers to him and the rest of y'all that have helped out...
Now I need to get 3G working. I did run across this from another site's thread but I don't know if it works to fix 3G cause there are no other references to it:

I am not sure if changing the "vzw" pass to one of these would work or not.. Has anyone else seen this and does it work to connect 3G?
Hmm...
I popped in a non-4G-LTE SIM card yet still no 1x or 3G data (no MMS or anything).
Any words of insight here?
After having everything working(voice,sms,mms,data1x) for almost a week, I tried to get 3G to work and now I have no data or mms at all...I have tried to re-flash and re-flash, gone over all the settings a thousand times, but nothing...
Brandon314159, wish I could offer some advice but I find myself also asking for help now... The last three times I called PPC and had them reset my data, I still haven't gotten it back yet..

I'm thinking the APN may be wrong on my Thunderbolt (still verizon?) because it wasn't a setting I had to change in this process?
I will have some more time here soon to look at it and see if I can figure it out..
I don't think the sim card really matters much but I'm using the verizon sim because it holds the PRL. 3G data is working for me, you need to be able to write your specific keys to the phone using DFS. This took me a while to figure out but eventually I got my hands on a droid incredible and was able to use it for my source to setup the thunderbolt. I am not sure if there is any other way to work around this or not but it worked for me.
Edit: It may be that you need to do all the programming as stated by the OP before you do the activation or have an ESN reset thru PPC.

EDIT: I was wrong about the sim card but if you have a new one that was NEVER programmed before, then it will work with the 4G LTE sim card.
I had 2 used & 1 new sim card but I could only get the NEW one to work correctly with 3G. Sorry if I lead anyone in the wrong direction.
I am only finding one port (9k) since I upgraded to ICS. Does anyone have a similar issue or could this be another problem?

I have found This rom here to be the most useful in setting things up to where you can reboot to diag mode and then set everything else up as stated in the OP. Once you are finished, flash the rom of your choice but don't go thru with the vzw activation process so all of your settings will stick. They may still stick, I don't know for certain as I have never allowed it to finish.
