In the forum search look fo "z4root". I used it to root my epic . It took a few uninstall-reinstall-reboot-run-repeat cycles but I am successfully rooted and didn't even need a PC
Epic is as Epic does
Thanks ill try that.

Is that even on the market anymore?
I used one click lag fix to root mine

I tried the z4root and another one click root I found on the forums nneither of them worked. Probably because im running 2.2. I found a one click root using a computer so I think that will be my next attempt

I'm on the road and don't have a computer with me, is there a way to root without a computer? Does the visionary method work for this device? Just got today....

Not sure on the visionary method... All I have read on the G2x forums pertains to using a computer.
Visionary only pertains to those HTC devices with that nand-protection You'll need a computer to root
Ok I found one to use today after work... Damn we don't have much development support for this phone...

Seems as if I need a computer to move the file to sd

Well I went and hacked the library computer to allow me to save the app you suggested to my sd. I tried with and without debugging enabled. It just black screened a few seconds in and did nothing. So I'm not sure.
I also tried the same with Z4 again. It would like run and the app would close, unrooted.
Any suggestion to a newbie?

You have to enable usb debugging first to use any rooting app. You can just turn it off afterwards.

I just remembered. My friend has a optimus black running 2.2.2 and he rooted it with gingerbreak. I'm not sure if the optimus s can do the same thing but you can try.

I'm going to try and help solidsnake0928 get another lucid as a tester phone. He seems to believe he can unlock the boot loader and can continue forward from there. Hopefully we will be able to get some custom ROMs up soon once he gets it unlocked without fear of boot looping or bricking. ( other than the normal , not following instructions bricks)
Also I used the lg spectrum root package to root my 4.0.4 lucid
