Hi, I don't want be rude and talking badly to the Samsung Galaxy but a new device with Android OS that has only a 3.2Camera and no- Flash seems bit absurd don't you think? The name has nothing to do with the real world...a galaxy or a star usually is very bright...with this phone you cannot even make photo or video in the night time...mmmm....not a galaxy whatsoever................
All I can say is: Stay with HTC models!
But the procesor and the chipset is a lot better then the crappy qualcomm. If only HTC start to use different processors.
Qualcom chip
Are you sure about that? I have an Htc Diamond 2, a Sony Xperia X1, and Htc Hero, they are perfect ! before that a Samsung D900...it was fine...nice phone but I could not do it the things I do with Htc or Sony.
u cannot compare phones with different OS, and I dont know what chip was used in D900. I am talking about Snapdragon(Qualcomm) vs. Hummingbird(Samsung).

have you seen the galaxy videos? it takes like 5+ secs to actually getting in to the gallery after pressing it. it seems kinda slow to me. unless that's because of the software being beta or something, that's slow to me.
@ qualcomm vs hummingbird: qualcomm will come out soom enough with dualcores.

1. seen that, especially the "Lady" that was clicking on icons like she was mad and launching few programs at the same time, but who knows.
and after qualcomm will come with dualcore, samsung will come with better dualcore.
I think there were some benchmarks comparisons, will try to find them.

Hello,
i was actually wondering if anybody knows how to Mod correctly a galaxy.
I have a galaxy from the middle east which does not come with marketplace. the I7500JVIL2. I have flashed it using ODIN to another rom I7500xiik, however many options stopped working like sdcard, camera, etc... i flashed it to 1.6, camera started working but sdcard still doesn't.
So, I was wondering if there is any way to get this fixed. I need sdcard so that I flash using recovery mod. I'm trying to flash it back to the original build I7500JVIL2, hoping this will make everything work again.
Do you think this is a good solution? Are there suggestions you can make on another build to use that has marketplace and everything working on the phone.
Sorry if I posted in the wrong place. I couldn't find anything regarding galaxy on XDA and I love this forum. I habe been able to succesfully mod my g1 through this forum.
Thanks,
VENI VIDI VICI

For me the only thing to like about the galaxy is it's name
I just realized that you are talking about the galaxy(i7500) and not about galaxy s(i9000).
BTW galaxys, you should sue samsung for using your nick.
Personally I wouldn't touch a Samsung with a bargepole, I have owned a few Samsung phones, where the phones tend to be okay they do not support them at all with firmware updates, they have a remarkable release rate of phones and rather than supporting the current ones they just release a new one!
Galaxy name
Yeah your right only the name is cool....I don't know why people don't pay attention to the market...We have around in Uk at list 10 top of the range mobiles, starting with HTC HD2, Htc Desire, Htc Legend, Nexus One, Diamond 2, Motorola Milestone, Nokia n900, Omnia2 and so on....Why buying the Galaxy?. I will give you another example: Which would you buy between Htc Desire and Sony Xperia X10???...Of course the Desire!!! they have the same price but Desire is on another planet: Android 2.1, Multitouch, better Keyboard, better interface...Maybe..the only thing Xperia X10 has better then Desire is the Camera that's all...Xperia X10 is basically a 2009 device sorry arrived to late!
Hello, im so happy at last samsung galaxy spica have a new home here in XDA
forum. Since i've using this phone i found that samsung galaxy spica only have a
very small number of developer. What a pitty, since this phone have a huge
hardware potential like multi touch capable chip, even some forum found that
spica has a 256mb RAM chip but somehow only about 160mb active.
So im looking forward for developer to help us spica user to unleash true spica power..

not only the hardware i guess, lots of pepole were using samsung spica as it is, since the other android phones were highly priced....so samsung galaxy spica is a well balanced phone between price and ability
What Theoo means by looking forward for a developer to unleash samsung spica true power is not just an empty hope (i guess...)
I recently bought samsung galaxy spica and my first impression is............I DONT NEED ANY SMARTPHONE AGAIN
Hope there will be someone who can deliver samsung spica to its full potential
Infact its a really capable phone. But samsung has written poor divers for it.The 3D experience is horrible.
There are many good developers like leshaK who r working really hard for its development but developing a phone is not a one man's show.
As said above, the phone is capable of multi touch support,it has a 800mhz processor which can be well overclocked like in case of moment,it has a second microphone which seems to be of no use.
If some good developers work on making drivers for this powerful phone,we can use the full hardware capabilities of this phone.

1. The Galaxy Spica has 256 MB RAM and 512 MB ROM. But only 146 was made visible to the OS.
2.It has a FM capable chip BCM4325, but was not implemented.
3.QT5480 chip is multitouch capable but was not implemented .(hopefully will work in android 2.x ROM)

Yes spica has the ability to update to 2.2.but samsung never update their old phone. I7500 for example. It's stop in 1.6.(official fw) .and samsung don't update spica. We have some good developers in samdroid. And leshak give us a 2.2.but not perfect . I hope xda developer can help us build a working 2.2. Our cpu s3c6410 support 3d but no drive. What a pity!

Thankfully tom3q working on a brand new 3D driver, but he might be happy for a little a help.
Since he is writing the driver for froyo, I think now our first step must be a stable & working froyo on the spica!
If some developer would like to help in that, the actual state of development can be seen here: forum.samdroid.net/f9/dev-android-2-2-froyo-samsung-i5700-alpha-2-gprs-3g-wifi-11-07-2010-a-1408
P.S.
I would like to say thank you to the XDA Developer team for making the Spica forum!
Adding myself to the bunch of people looking forward to spica development...
Didn't expect to see Spica around here. I'm glad it's here now though, might catch the attention of developers. I agree with some of the people who have mentioned the Spica being crippled by Samsung's poor implementation and support for this device.
I bought the phone in May, and love it for the things that it can do. I just feel that it's too early for Samsung to drop it and move on to their newer phones. This phone has a lot of potential.
Props to Leshak for working hard to improve the Spica. I hope more devs can pitch in.
Hey,
After playing around with the Xperia Arc system dump, I am interested in learning how to port some of the applications to other android devices. I thought maybe some of them would work on at least the X10, but apparently not.
I've seen success stories on people porting over the Droid X Multitouch keyboard to nearly every other android device.
I'm just wondering how this is done? Can anyone provide some insight/knowledge on the matter?
Thanks!
Wasn't sure whether to put this is the other section, or this one...so I guess I'll let the mods device
Ok, so I'm pretty new to this whole Android thing, but I'm not daft and know a think or two about computers and software, so I'm not a complete 'noob'...
However, to spare me the drama of trawling through thousands of pages, I have a few quick concise questions, and would appreciate concise answers.
So I bought a generic handset, branded as an Onyx Dragon though AnTuTu benchmark app tells me its a Yusu... details and specs from Chinavision.com (search Onyx Dragon).
I initially bought it because I needed a new phone (been on a Moto V3 Razr for about 6 years!) so got this cos it was cheap and looked good. Runs Froyo on what I have found to be pretty **** hardware (MT6516, advertised as 416MHz but shown to be around 207MHz, but not sure if this is main CPU or radio core...) with not a lot of RAM. I installed an 8Gb SD card to save the apps and keep as much free internal space as possible, in case the OS supports disc memory (?). The wireless is good and screen works well, but the GPS, navigation and camera are rubbish, but they are not why I bought it; I have a decent camera and I can read a map. Its definitely 'entry level' so I'm not too bothered if I brick it.
Since I got it, and seeing the many cheap 'clones' out there, I'm keen to get into them a bit more and start developing. I already rooted it with z4root, BusyBox and Superuser all installed fine. ROM Manager is running but because I don't know the actual brand I'm not yet running ClockWorkMod (doesn't show up in the list). I'm keen to install Gingerbread or maybe even CyanogenMod 7, but cannot flash the ROM without CWM. Can anyone tell me what phone 'model' I should use for this particular handset?
I can't overclock the chipset, but have been looking at other clones to play with, such as htc Incredible G11i Pro clone from etotalk.com and 'CyberStar' 3G handset with MT6573 650MHz chipset (also from Chinavision).
Does anyone have any knowledge/experience with these clones? They look great and if they work as well as the budget model I have now then there is certainly potential. Sure, they may not be as good as a genuine Galaxy or Nexus, but then the price reflects that. However, as a cheap development platform you can't really go wrong! I'd like to see faster processors and more hardware mod ability such as clocking, just to see what is possible. Anyone tried ICS on one of these? I read elsewhere that if Froyo runs ok on a cheap device then GB should be better. My friend has GB 2.3.3 on a genuine $500 Galaxy S2 and I'd love to show him up with a rooted and clocked clone running ICS for a fraction of the price!!
Well, thats not as concise as I would like, but it covers pretty much everything. One last thing though, I cannot install ES File Explorer 1.6.1, it will download from Market and attempt to install but then fail. The latest version I have is the pre-installed 1.4.2.2. I've tried everything I can think of; downloading on my Mac and copying via USB to install from Astro making sure ES is not running, failed. Tried uninstalling ES with ROM Toolbox having root access and disabled AVG, failed. Tried to launch new version from package options, failed. I have installed ES Task Manager v1.2 but cannot use all the features as it says File Explorer needs to be updated, and needless to say updating it from the prompts failed as well... Any ideas? I'm thinking a flash to GB should include the latest version (or better alternative).
Thanks all in advance!
I don't think it's possible to run ICS on such a low spec'd device. This onyx dragon runs on a 416Mhz ARM9 processor with a 200 Mhz ARM7 GPU. Even the G1 that uses a 528Mhz ARM11 CPU can't run ICS well. I would suggest that you give up on theses crappy chineses devices. If you don't have money you can find a LG Optimus One for 100 bucks on ebay and it is A LOT better than any of these chinese crap phones

Hey all, thanks for the feedback. Basically, sure I don't want to spend a lot being a student, I don't have a lot, but I'm keen to get more out of what I can afford, hence the Chinese crap (yes it is crap but if it does what you need...) : ) just a shame I can't clock mine! Does anyone know if ANY MediaTec chips can be?
Sure, I think running ICS is a bit optimistic, but I'd still like to give GB or C-Mod a go, providing I can get CWM installed. I'd like to compile myself and even think about refining my own version, perhaps slimming down a newer version to run on low performance hardware. What's this about a special cable needed with a 3.5mm jack?
And am I right in thinking Honeycomb was only for tablets, not phones...?

Yes you are right about honeycomb. As for the device. Without kernel source which will never be released due to copyright issues you may have a bit of trouble Modding it. CM only supports authentic devices and not clones as the hardware specs as you learned are faked and never true.

Hi droidscope,
Not all the Chinese phones are crap there are a few very capable phones now entering the market and they are catching up the bigboys rapidly.
For more info & reviews on the latest Chinese phones check over here http://www.gizchina.com/category/phones/ Try to stick with the branded chinese phones such as Zopo, ZTE, Newman etc because there is at least some support where as the direct copy/clones have no support at all. If buying try to get the phone pre rooted because some of the Chinese phone are getting more difficult to root. I would look here http://www.etotalk.com/ if buying and select the MOD ROM $4.99 for most phones then the phone will come pre rooted with working playstore language etc. They do not 1 to 1 copys although some of the phones have more than a passing look of some of the more famous brands. I have used them a few times and they have not let me down be sure to email them first to ask about stock levels though.
I notice that several Rockstar games are not available for Galaxy S Relay. It probable that the phone doesn't have enough cpu power to run the games, but I notice that the games can be run using a Galaxy S2, which should be inferior to the S Relay. Anyone notice this issue have a fix? I tried using Market Helper to get around the issue, but it doesn't work and the developer appeared to have retired the app. I could also mess with build.prop but I rather not.
I was wondering. Has anyone actually requested Rockstar to support the device. Since there are quite a number of S Relay owners out there, I would think that someone must have already done so.

Which games? What ROM? Or are you pure stock?

Grand Theft Auto. Virtually all of them block Relay as a device. ROM is stock. Why? Does installing a different rom makes a difference?
Paul
I emailed Rockstar game and they didn't respond, it appears I won't be getting any Rockstar games . I believe there is a way around it. If you purchase the game on a compatible phone, then extract the apk using a utility call Raccoon and install it on the Galaxy S Relay phone.
