Post Your Sig Links Here - Captivate General

I have started this thread because of a few reasons. First and foremost is the size limit on a sig. After buying an Inspire I realize I need more space for all the pertinent things I might want to link people to. I l also realized other members might need the same thing. As time goes by there will most likely be more stuff added here, but for now here it is:

I have to admit, for half a second I thought this was a reactionary post to the "post your home screens" thread, and I thought, "But... won't these signatures change? Would we do screenshots?" and various other dumb things.
Good idea for a post.

I have a I 9000 captivate...lost root

Can anyone give me a link or advice on how to get back to stock rogers 2.2 (captivate)from this gt i9000 that I flashed onto my phone im unrooted and super 1 click that I used to root as a captivate isn't working now that my captivate is technically a gt I 9000,are there stock rogers firmware files that I can use with odin 3 eg.pda, pit just like I used to get this9000rom,i dont want to flash toatt 2.1 as my phone gets stuck at the att logo after the first time powering off.can someone help me root or get into recovery (3 finger no longer works )

dont open new threads when(at the time of this threads creation) the one you have open in the q&a sub forum has already answered this exact question TWICE.
And now since i answered it again(before I saw this thread) the link is there 4 TIMES!!!!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1108253
i like the fact that the OP thinks superoneclick doesnt work with i9000
it works with damn near EVERYTHING, nearly EVERY PHONE
I like the fact that this should be in the i9000 section..
Is this a i9000, or a Captivate? If it's an i9000
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=748
The i9000 is not a captivate. It's a GalaxyS. The captivate is a type of GalaxyS, just like the i9000. They're different phones with different ROMs, with different kernels with different hardware with different drivers. They are GalaxyS's but a i9000 is NOT a captivate.
Adam...i believe he may have flashed I9000 gingerbread on his captivate. (perhaps a froyo I9000 firmware who the hell can tell at this point.) Notice he said auto rotation doesn't work, and he's asking for stock rogers firmware so it's definitely a cappy.

yeah. he has a captivate, but has flashed an i9000 rom with i9000 kernel. he didnt read everything he was told to read, or he would have understood that he needed a reoriented kernel. he also wouldnt be making threads like this.
I read but trying to decipher what is old what isn't what works and what won't yea I flashed gt i9000 ,in the other read I had a different issue so I didn't post this problem there cause I didn't think I would be seen, my buddy put g.bread cm7nightly on my phone it didn't work, so I desperate and short on time(screaming kids all weekend) used odin and put gti 9000 onto my captivate please send me the info I need, before I throw this phone against a brick wall

First, GT-I9000 is a cousin of captivate. Flashing GT-I9000 ROM is not a huge problem if you have proper kernel to support it. Infact all the GB roms in captivate dev section are derived from GT-I9000 ROM.
Second, why is that u dont want to ODIN back to eclair first if u really want to be on stock?
I think you need to calm down first and do a bit of study before doing anything crazy with ur phone
Edit: And i am guessing you have flashed GB bootloaders so to get into recovery try Power + Volume UP
I don't know where to get the Rogers firmware, but if you want a captivate 2.2 ROM...
Here.... http://files.teamkomin.com/Andromeda/Tools/Andromeda3-HeimdallPackage.zip
Use the Andromeda3 heimdall package. Its simple enough to figure out and everything you need is included. Just put your phone into download mode and flash it.
edit: if you have flashed 2.3 bootloaders, you are on your own. I will not recommend flashing bootloaders. You will need to find a 2.2 bootloader for your phone.
Thanks for the link, odin makes sense to me now so i understand the multiple files needed,we (me and the guy who owns the mobile solutions store tried for 4 hours to boot into recovery and dl mode, followed connexion 2005 3 finger fix to a tee,got the file onto phone, cannot root either because apparently phone thinks its a i9000,we tried old one click root and when it puts phone into recovery mode power button will not allow selection also re-inst packages opt is not there, maybe next a jig? thinking of grabbing 3 100k ohm resistors and trying that method im all out here..am i stuck with a 500$ paper weight or what???
jeez....read. read.... and read some more
SUPERONECLICK will root your fkn phone. it doesnt matter if the computer thinks its an i9000 or not!

[Q] Updates for Wiki?

Just got my Captivate (rooted, stock 2.2), and despite my misgivings about Samsung (my wife had a Delve...gak), I'm liking it quite well. I've had some experience rooting and flashing ROMs with other phones, but the Cappy is a whole new realm for me. Firstly, the community is way active, and that is awesome. Lots of new stuff to look at every day, but the drawback is that for a newcomer, the backlog of information is daunting.
I'd love to see the Wiki in this forum updated. I have a ton of questions, and yes, they are somewhat answered in older posts, but since I have a stock 2.2 phone, lots of the information out there is out-of-date. Here are some questions I have that would be good information for the wiki. I'd even be glad to update the wiki, but I'm afraid my ignorance would be a hindrance.
What is the latest version of Odin3 that I should use, and where should I get it?
How can I tell what version my bootloader files are?
What do acronyms like JS7, JS8 and KF1 mean?
What kernels are compatible with which ROMs?
What modems are compatible with which ROMs?
Ditto for bootloaders...
Can we get some updated descriptions of kernels and ROMs?
I'm not sure I get all the differences between using Odin3 and SGS Tools. Some description of the tools and when to use them would be nice.
If someone were to volunteer to hold my hand through the process, I would be willing to go through the Wiki and update it with more current info. Since I'm a noob to the Captivate, my perspective on things might make the Wiki more informative to newbies and keep the rest of you from having to deal with posts like this one so often.
-Odin 1.7
-The way in which you enter download mode
-Different Samsung-created firmwares
-All Froyo kernels work with Froyo ROMs... All modems work with all ROMs
-SGS Tools is just a bunch of userspace mods... Odin can flash anything; ROMs, kernels, bootloaders, modems, and anything in between
Sent from my Infuse 4G
You should have froyo bootloaders, most ROMs will state what bootloaders you need, unless you want cm7, miui or a 2.1 ROM i would recommend flashing the AT&T gingerbread bootloaders with odin3. BE VERY CAREFUL WHEN DOING THIS as if cord is dodgy or comes out during the process you could end up with a hard brick. JS8 etc are just names for the different releases of samsung firmware, most custom ROMs are based off these.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S SCH-I500 ROM

I have the CSpire Samsung Galaxy S Showcase SCH-I500 with 2.3.5 stock Gingerbread. I was wondering if there is a stable custom rom for this phone and how to go about putting it on my showcase. I have experience with lots of android phones but this particular phone/carrier is qwerky in how you go about the method to change the rom/root.
Mainly, looking for the best ROM that won't alter the phone's stock abilities and step-by-step method on how to flash it. I'd rather not brick my phone.
P.S. Haven't seen any posts about this on any forums but sorry in advance if there is a previous post on this.
Bump for more info.
Bump for more info pls. I have stock ROM rooted but I can't seem to find a custom ROM for the SGS i500.
I would like to know as well.
I would like to know as well.
I found alot of good info on the CSpire Galaxy S on Rootzwiki in the Mesmerize / Fascinate / Showcase forum. My CSpire Galaxy S has 2.3.5 GB firmware and a build numder of SCH-I500.EI20. From what I have read this is the same as the Showcase. I had my phone rooted pretty easily but Rootzwiki helped alot with putting a custom kernel on it. Once thats done custom roms are pretty easy to find. Just look for stuff for EI20 Showcase phones. Hope this info helps someone.

The "all-in-one-location" XDA Skyrocket General Info/Root Method/Kernel/ROM Thread!
Welcome all SGSII-Skyrocket owners (and anyone else)!
My purpose is to help organize some general info, root methods, kernels, and (constantly updated) ROMs into one thread with links. I do not take credit for ANY work posted in this thread as they should be given to their respective creators (and porters). Also, I am not responsible for any action(s)/damages you take that are from flashing or changing your device from the way you received it when it was purchased. So basically what you do with the information you find here is on YOU!
I hope that ALL questions and requests related to linked content will be posted in the appropriately linked thread(s). Hopefully, we can keep this organized and easy to read and update. Any dates are in a "MM.DD" format and are derived from the most recent date the OP of each thread was updated (in a subtle attempt to continue having devs update their OP any time they update their creations...though our devs seem to be cooler and smarter than the rest IMO ).

[ROMs]
(With our Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket gaining more attention and ownership, I expect our current developers...THANK YOU!!!!...to gain some new developers that will add to the growing list of available ROMs. There are other ROMs out there (not many) but I didn't want to post links to other forum sites. So instead, I will say this is not a complete list of available ROMs but it is all of them available on the XDA Developers SGSII Skyrocket Forums. NO links will go directly to the downloads, instead they will link to the threads. This will hopefully force people to see any instructions and warnings that are related to those ROMs directly from their creators.)

Thanks for your input. Where do you think it should be? All the linked threads (besides one) are located within the Development section so imo a compilation (or index if you will) should be in the dev section too and at the top. Also, this isn't the first thread of it's kind. I'm sure you've seen a thread like this in each of the dev forums just to bring some kind of organization to the many roms and dev related convos/discussions.

Thank you for starting this. I think this does belong in the Development forum and should be stickied once it gets where it needs to be.
Anywho, my suggestion is to add a section for CWM-flashable modems. There are only a couple of baseband versions out now but I'm sure that as time goes on and more updates/leaks come out that people will want the ability to use the one they want with whatever rom.
Ok I'll take a look for the threads when I get off work and add them ...or you could be a pal and PM me the links so I can add them easily. Thanks for your help and opinion!
I will keep this in the development section. Looks like some useful information pertaining to development. Guides are allowed if they are kept up to date

Should we organize the roms by date updated (most recent placed at top of that section) or should we organize it by ciq/no ciq? I'm currently leaning towards by date but it's a valid question.

just saying...
Seen these threads made before (i.e. GSII i-9100) and the usual rules of [Dev] section is "If you didn't build it yourself, it doesn't belong in the Dev section." Since this is more a [Ref]erence... then....
but its always up to the moderator.
Either way, this is a useful thread
Lets keep this one here, it will hopefully stop some usual questions and give some answers
Yeah I got u cue, I really wanted to plan ahead for this forum and help out the Mods to keep it structured.
Again, if you see anything I can add to this please post or pm me. Also, maybe a message to some of the devs that haven't posted their roms here might be good idea to encourage them to create a thread here on XDA and show that we're being pretty pro-active on making the most out of our awesome device. Thoughts on that?

I thought the dates after each one would be enough considering the way us programmers are. A dev could revise a rom multiple times in one day, and I go off the date the OP is updated. But, if y'all really want that then um...ok. Anyone else agree with Dan?
Good thing. Maybe you can add links for stock kernel and rom for both Roger and AT&T.
thanks

[GUIDE] dsixda's Android Kitchen - Now supports SGS2 Skyrocket (Windows/Linux/Mac)

dsixda's Android Kitchen - Now for Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket
Compatible with Windows (Cygwin) / Linux / Mac OS X
The following is a guide to assist you with creating your own Samsung Galaxy S2 Qualcomm MSM8660-based (non-Exynos) custom ROMs. This also applies to the following devices:
AT&T Skyrocket
T-Mobile SGH-T989
Telus Galaxy SII X
Rogers Galaxy SII LTE
Bell Galaxy SII HD LTE SGH-I757M
Galaxy Note SGH-I717
IMPORTANT: If you have the original Galaxy SII GT-I9100 or its variants such as the Galaxy Note SGH-N7000, then click here to follow this other thread instead.
This is NOT a guide to help you become Cyanogen or do fancy things with AOSP, but it may be your springboard to bigger things in the future.
Some of you already know about the Android Kitchen. It is a project I started on back in February 2010 to help newbies create their own custom ROMs and learn more about Android. As of version 0.181, you can now create your own Galaxy S2 Skyrocket ROMs with the kitchen.
I'd like to thank twopumpchump (who owns an AT&T Skyrocket) and -Mr. X- (Telus Galaxy S2 X) for helping me out, as well as for testing on their devices and providing feedback. I only have a Bell Galaxy S2 I9100 so their assistance was greatly appreciated!
[MAIN PAGE] [RELEASE NOTES] [FAQ - page 1] [FAQ - page 2]

PROCEDURE
This guide may be a bit basic right now but I will update it later if required.
First, you need a rooted Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket or equivalent with a ClockworkMod custom recovery.
Visit the Android Kitchen thread to download the kitchen. Then, follow the link to the FAQ which will show you how to install it on Windows, Linux or Mac OS X. Ensure you read the FAQ carefully.
IMPORTANT: To verify your variant of the Galaxy S2 Skyrocket works in the kitchen, open your device's /system/build.prop file and check the ro.product.device value. If the value doesn't exist under the kitchen's tools/samsung_files/sgs2x_variants/ folder then just create a blank file there with same file name as your device's ro.product.device value.
Put your base ROM(s) under the original_update folder. For the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, there is support for the following formats which can be placed in that folder (you can place multiple ROMs there):
Stock firmware:
system.img.ext4, tomb.img.ext4 (if it exists) and boot.img (and optionally: cache.img.ext4)
TAR file containing system.img.ext4 and boot.img (and optionally: cache.img.ext4) NOTE: If the TAR file name ends with "MD5", remove the MD5 part from the name.
ZIP file containing system.img.ext4 and boot.img (and optionally: cache.img.ext4)
Custom ROM:
ZIP file created only by the kitchen from the stock firmware (NOTE: The kitchen may NOT support custom ROMs created through other methods, due to potential file structure incompatibility issues)
Nandroid backup from ClockworkMod recovery
system.img, cache.img and boot.img
system.ext4.tar, cache.ext4.tar and boot.img
Here are some basic steps to creating your first ROM after you have your base of files under original_update (more options are available in the kitchen):
Start the kitchen with: ./menu
Create a working folder (by choosing your base ROM)
If you used a system.img.ext4 but then didn't include the cache.img.ext4, then you have the option to add a cache.img.ext4 later using the Extract CSC script in the Advanced menu's 'Plugins' section.
Root your ROM
Add Busybox
In the Advanced options menu: De-odex your ROM
Build ROM
The ROM is built into a ZIP file meant for flashing from the custom recovery menu. No Odin.
Some notes:
Just select the defaults whenever you are asked about something in the kitchen and are unsure whether to type 'y' or 'n'.
There are lots of questions answered in the FAQ in Posts 3 and 4 of the main Android Kitchen thread. So please go through that first if you have any issues.
For the benefit of other readers and to prevent confusion, please only discuss Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket or equivalent SGS2 LTE devices in this thread!
Most of all, have patience, take your time and enjoy!!

Yes I was done but felt I needed to put a stop to those persistent tweets/questions from the original SGS2 thread.
thanks so much!
Awesome, great to see this for SkyRocket. Now if we can cook from ICS sources, that had be amazing! I guess we will haev to wait till atleast Galaxy S2 gets ICS officially. Nexus S got it today, jealous!

yeah, can't wait for those "roms"
Is there currently a way to develop on top of a vanilla android rom? I personally don't like touchwiz or the carrier branded roms whatsoever. New to the development for this device so i am not exactly sure what's available.

Well, creating a custom ROM with the kitchen is not really development. You would need to compile the AOSP source code or a Cyanogen source to develop a vanilla ROM. The kitchen could be used afterwards to add other things to it like deodexing, root etc.
I have had limited success using the kitchen with a Samsung Galaxy S2 Cyanogen ROM, it depends on how complex the updater-script is. It did work fine on other devices like the Nexus S.

Understood i read some things on the cyanogen forums stating that they dont have plans to send out a skyrocket rom. They said that the att gs 2 is so similar to the international and the skyroxket using different chips for the blazay blazay blazay highly unlikely to develop a from for the skyrocket.
If he ports of a cyanogen are flakey and cm has no plans to support the phone BC of little demand or whatever do you know of anybody trying to pursue compiling a source code for the gs2 sr? I have Dev experience and would like to see more options for rooms. Not to discount the work that has already been done atall. I just personally love that vanilla feel. I also like launched pro and works much better in that environment from my experience.
