Just upgraded to ics last night from stock rooted gb though kies. Have not rerooted yet.
The first thing i noticed was i lost flash player support on a streaming page i go to a lot. So i updated the Adobe flash and it loaded up in the webpage but after a few seconds of skipping sound and video it freezes.
I've tried another browser chrome which didn't load. Made sure it wasn't internet connection speed by using both wifi and LTE.
Anyone know if there's anything to try or a fix? I know adobe stopped supporting it or something so maybe it's not compatible with newer android firmware?

I know that adobe support for flash on chrome will no longer work at all and android support in general is over. but i've heard that guys are still able to load their tibu backups of flash and get them to work in dolphin, so maybe try that. i don't have any flash problems yet, but im running skyics by seanz
Wow i just tried dolphin and it worked smooth as butter! Thanks! Guess the browser just sux lol.
Side question though, I've never flashed roms, only rooted phones and i read about people flashing so often. Do your apps or settings etc. Transfer over or do you start fresh every time and have to set it all up?
I am thinking one day i might try that but if i don't like it i don't wanna go back and have to have a complete do over.

Usually you have to do a full wipe, which means losing all your apps. But, it shouldn't matter if you have Titanium back up. And most launchers have back up settings, so there wouldn't be too many things you would have to re-setup. Just remember your Gmail pw( which none of my friends do when I help them flash a rom >.<)

Bit confusing here, as I understand that ROMs and kernels for the Optimus V (VM670) are incompatible with the P500. I don't see much for the VM670 in the Android Development section.
I recently flashed BobzHome. The camera apps occasionally freeze, which I blame on the camera drivers in the kernel, and when overclocking the only governor that doesn't freeze the phone is Performance - again, points towards the kernel.
ICS for the VM670 seems to be a downgrade from Gingerbread because there is no HW acceleration. "Inferior Human Organs" is not a comforting name for a ROM.
Is there a list of ROMs and kernels for the VM670?
There's tons of roms out there. I can't post links, because I'm new to xda, but you should be able to google these and figure out where the ov roms are.
I love theKraven's cold as ice (cai) ics rom. It's build for the S, but works great on the V with the virgin patch. Basically everything works except native tethering. It's as fast and smooth as I've ever seen my phone.
BobZhome's jb and ics are both good, but Bob hasn't had a lot of time to fix bugs, but it looks like he may be getting back into it.
Tdm's Quatrimus ics is also good, but same as BobZ, hasn't been updated in a while.
Thatguylurkin ported icysnap using cai as a base that is cool, but could use an update. I'm hopeful about that.
Then there's the gb roms, For the most part they are solid. Most overclock well and are fully functional. This list is not comlpete, but these are ones I've tried and like (in no particular order):
Mrg666's mirage build
Leslie Ann's harmonia build
Earthnfire78's om-mandylion
Tgl's gingersnap port
Sellers86's cyanmobile experience port
Beyond that, a few good ports from clodfelterac and ilikechicken, and there's tons of other quality froyo and gb roms. Sorry if i missed anyone, those are just the ones that come to mind.
Recoveries:
cwm is the gold standard, imho. There's a few options, BobZhome, green, Earthnfire78's zen garden
New Cot 2.1 is great.
Twrp from theKraven is fun and cool.
People like Xionia, but i never found the right .img.

Thanks. But none of the JB or ICS ROMs support hardware acceleration, right?
And from my own research, not all of the VM670 ROMs that you say are solid, are solid.
And which of those ROMs support overclocking?

for ics omx libaries has been released
so their should be hw accelaration in ics
roms
I guess solid is a relative term. I would call most of those solid in that all of the key functions work, and they don't tend to crash. Hardware acceleration is still an issue, and idk if it will ever be fully addressed on the ov, but at least Kraven has fixed hq video/youtube in cai. That was one of the main issues that people said would never be fixed without hardware acceleration.
There is an egl patch to force gpu rendering, but idk if it really makes a noticeable difference.
As far as oveclocking, in my experience, none of the ics/jb roms run well over 600. They also can't handle underclocking well, so you need to raise your min clock speed to 480
In general the gb roms overclock well into the 700-800 range, but it depends on the specific rom and your specific phone.
So if I want to overclock, I'm going with a gingerbread ROM.
BobZHome is crashing on me, especially when I try to use the camera, so I blame the kernel because camera drivers are in the kernel.
Can you recommend a good kernel that overclocks well?
If that doesn't work, can you recommend a STABLE GB ROM that overclocks well?

Mirage was used as the base for a lot of the ports, and has a good reputation for overclocking. Harmonia 2 is also well developed.
In general, I don't think there is much of a speed difference between the overclocked gb roms and the non-overclocked cai.
I would start by trying cai and mirage, and move on from there. I think those two will definitely suit your needs, and you'll have to decide which you like better.
ps. I just realized we are conversing on two threads. Sorry, sometimes I don't look at whom I'm talking to.
You know, I just realized we are conversing on two threads, too!
Let's keep it on this thread? The title is more appropriate.
I'm going to stick with GB.
Does USB mass storage work for Mirage?
It does.
WOW! Installed Mirage and boy am I happy! Runs like a champ, overclocked up to 787MHz and so far no problems!
One issue, instead of a Google account, Add Account asks "Add an Exchange account." How do I add my Google account?
Also seems that LGCamera doesn't like the VM670.

Stupid question, but did you install gapps, and did you get the normal setup process, starting with tapping the big green android?
Can you go to settings, accounts and sync and add your Google account?

When I go to Settings > accounts and sync, when I add an account it only asks for an Exchange account.
I had installed Mirage over my existing install, so I kept all my apps. I'll reinstall gapps and see what happens.
@upconvert, with Mirage can you tell me what are your CPU settings for Min/Max & governor?
What rom were you coming from? I'm pretty sure that there's a "first time setup" included in the gapps that will tak care of that. I think it also includes the google sync that will let you add it from that menu.

I was using BobzHome. But that's not my problem. This phone keeps crashing on me!
What are the recommended settings for Performance? Maybe I'm running out of memory?
The first thing I would recommend is a full wipe before flashing. You can back up your apps with tibu or mybackup root first. I know it's a pain, but it's hard to figure out what's causing crashes when you're working off a dirty flash.
As far as performance settings I would say to start your min clock speed at 480, and then experiment with the max clock speed. Start high and take it down a notch every time it crashes until it stops crashing, then go one notch lower to be safe. Once you have your max setting, then you can do the opposite with the min speed. Start it low and click it up after any crashes.
I also like 16 bit transparency, allow ksm and purging, and disable dithering.
Well, I did what you said and did a full wipe. From the recovery menu I wiped cache and data, cleared and formatted Davlik, formatted all the partitions.
Installed Mirage and everything ran fine! I installed gapps and that fixed the Google login. Installed DroidWall, then AntTek App Manager, everything O.K. Installed Titanium Backup, ES File Explorer, inSSider, MX Player, QuickPic, TuneIn Radio.
Played with all these for awhile and everything seems O.K. then installed Radar Now to really start pushing the limits. Everything O.K.
I then installed Google Maps and that's when it hit the fan. Crashed @600MHz while running Maps. Crashed on next boot and every boot after that. Crashed within about a minute of each boot. It then became a race to boot the phone and get to AntTak App Manager fast enough to freeze Maps. After a frustrating 20 minutes I finally got there fast enough and froze Maps. My OV froze in one last protest, I pulled the battery and started it up and everything's fine now.
Maps likes to run in the background so I guess it's doing something nasty. I'm CPU max at 729MHz and it's flawless. Gotta find a good offline GPS map program.

Hi,
Don't get me wrong, not stepping on anyone else's user experience, but, what is a good alternative to Jellybean after the manufacturer update?
I don't like Jellybean. Tired of checking the built-in stalking and tracking everywhere--playstore, maps, gmail, syncing, web & even the weather apps. I always keep GPS & location tracking turned off. Never sign in for Google services--contacts, calendar, search, youtube or whatever not needed.
Jellybean is a downgraded user experience for me. The notification menu is small, lacking the information and access it had before ICS. The keyboard too large in landscape which is fixable with 3rd party apps. Battery drain after update--lucky to get 8 hrs, before at least 13hrs on one charge with heavy usage. Peel remote not functioning as used to with or without app updates. On screen widgets with limited resizing not like before totally customizable. Loss of soft key screen screenshot option (deal breaker) I use it a lot. Bluetooth connectivity issues, virtually impossible after JB. Placement of the soft keys in a very ackward place, keep hitting the quick launch native apps. Amazon appstore app only usable in the older app format. If I update it I will not be able to access my paid for apps on their cloud server.
Did a factory reset to see if I get a reinstallment of ICS but Jellybean afterwards only, not the original ICS stock rom it shipped with. Can this be downgraded to the ICS bootloader & stock rom? Searched on the internet to find the stock rom for GT-3113TSYAR, answers or instructions on how to downgrade, rollback or reinstall the original rom. Didn't find anything. Open to custom roms but most are JB based, might as well keep what I have, unless, there are other options. Please feel free to post them. Don't mind doing the heavy lifting as long as it works & I don't end up hard bricked. i do like the transparency for the app drawer and homescreens, please keep that in mind when suggesting good alternatives.
Here's the stock ICS ROM:

If you want to know where I found it, it has a lot of different ROM links:

Thanks, did it and it was 100% successful. I just kept bumping into Jellybean. It was a very akward OS for me. I found out from reading on this site, I was not the only one. The main thing was the connectivity issues--bluetooth a total fail, YouTube app constantly buffering and the OS porportions were off. I love Android and have been using since Froyo, this is the first time I didn't like a version. There are tons of custom roms more thought-out with beautiful GUIs. Just fast scrolling from screen to screen means nothing to me. Looking for functionality. It was hard trying to find a non-Jellybean based custom rom.
I've had ICS installed on Desire S for the past week. I'm a bit disappointed at some features being missing. I was using standard GB with Sense 3.0 - nothing special.
Well here's my list of troubles - maybe someone can help me with them, or at least they'll be out there for the benefit of anyone taking the dive.
Browser no longer opens default app: Whenever I've installed a special purpose application (Wikipedia, IMDb, Google Play) and I search on the browser, I no longer get the option to open the page in its dedicated app - instead the page loads and I end up using the browser. Most of you might remember the browser on GB used to ask the standard which-app-would-you-like-to-use question, and whether you'd like it defaulted or just once, but it no longer does that.
The mail widget doesn't show the same as the app - I've got Mail configured to sync with Exchange on 6 folders. The widget has stopped showing the different folders - the app still shows them when I select "All Messages" and this was the default view on GB. I've looked for settings near and far, but can't find any to control this.
HTC Sense no longer has widgets to download: I miss the hourglass timer (countdown) and the battery widget.
Youtube widget now occupies 3x2 instead of the sleaker 4x1. Is it YouTube or Sense, I don't know - but I'm not completely satisfied by this change.
To be fair to ICS tho, I believe it's quicker and lighter on the battery - I haven't felt the common complaints of slower. Also, a browser issue that some people had complained about is non-existent in my case - Good for me!
dont know about the mail question ,, but for browser , clear data and clear defualts in setting>apps>browser,,,
htc-sense : yes it is a little wierd but unfortunately , u cant download more htc widgets on sense 3.6 ,
youtube : since i moved to ICS youtube widget is shown like this , on any ics rom,,, so its youtube, not sense
As far as I remember you can set default apps for actions somwhere in the settings. But the truth is that ICS from HTC is really annoying and battery life was worse for me than on GB.

Before i had problems with crashing links and apps weren't opening correctly.
Now for example i click youtube video in facebook app, it opens browser loads that address and asks what app to use. Checked youtube and don't ask in future.
Now works correct ;]

The one you're talking about is in Settings > Apps association.. but that doesn't include the apps I'm installing.
Apparently the response below from remusator is the right way to go... At least it sounds right to me. I'll try it and report back.
To Root? Or not to Root? That is the question.

Its sounds very likely that this is the right solution to follow... However, I'm not rooted. Would you recommend for or against (well, I think since you're rooted you probably will recommend it) but what are potential losses from rooting. I was against early in my warranty and OTA was still an option, but I'm not sure I have a case any more. Shall I just go ahead and root?

root it now !! no risk , it is very, very easy ,, u can get rid of the stock buggy ics , and can have latest android 4.1 jellybean ! ,Sense 4 ! ur phone will be very fast and lighting , can play any HD game bceause u can overclock your cpu ! ,,, but you may lost ur warranty :silly:
You will loose your warranty, however there are methods how to put the phone in original (afaik).
Anyway, most of Desire S phones are probably out of warranty already.
Rooting doesn't exactly mean installing custom roms, btw...
But it comes hand in hand, and it means freedom. You can make whatever you like with your phone.
Rooting on gingerbread was pretty easy and straightforward.
You root only once and install custom recovery. Then you can flash every rom you like (Desire S Development section), even prerooted, so no need to root again ;]
I've started my investigation on rooting, but I'm wondering about S-on/off are those needed also. Would those be enough to modify the build.prop file? What about upgrading bootloader.
Apparently I have too many questions so if you can redirect me to a guide about all those... The 101 of everything root/bootloader etc. Is appreciate it.

You can also find a complete guide thread here. Read as much as you can before you're confident about rooting. If you follow instructions carefully and read the tips to avoid bricking your device then there is very little risk to rooting.
Hi all, Updated to CM10.1 AOSP 4.2.1 Jellybean on my HTC Sensation. All works excellently other than I can no longer connect to Exchange, getting the "this server requires security features that your android..." error. I've Google it and looked on this forum but can't seem to find any definitive answer. My Sensation is running the above ROM, rooted, and, Android 4.2.2 and the Exchange server is 2003. Firmware is 3.3 which I had to update prior to this ROM. Nothing has been changed on the Exchange server and indeed until I flashed this new rom it sync'd no problem. My previous rom was on ICS and I though I had heard that there were problems with ICS and active sync but can't find any details on it.
I tried this hack too http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1117452 but it doesn't seem to make any difference. Interestingly enough, when I look at exchange via OWA and remove all mobile devices and then try to connect the phone again it shows up.
Is this problem because CM10.1 AOSP doesn't support EAS?
Thanks for any help.

I am not any help, but I see the exact same issue with my EVO LTE on CM10.1. Shows up in the OWA devices log and everything. I have googled the heck out of it to no avail. I am able to gain access using the Touchdown app, but that is not a very good solution (and it costs $20 when the stock app is perfectly fine). I have not tried the custom apps that remove security like the one you link to. I do not mind the security features as much as I just want to connect to my work email. My company has an "iPhone only" policy, but If I revert back to a 4.1 ROM, I am able to connect. As far as I know, there is no way to restrict the type of device from the server side; it just checks to see if the correct sercurity is in place.
