apk over bluetooth - Motorola Atrix 2

In atrix 2 files app you can share almost any file through bluetooth.
Is there a limit on the files?
Is it possible to change it, so you can send any file.

I don't know about the Mototola file manager but I'm sure I've sent apk's over bluetooth before simply by changing the file extension... I think it was OI file manager that I tried it with and I always got errors when the transfer should have started...

My PC see apk an rar files, so it's not it.
Well you should be able to just change the file name to xxxxx.apk. You should download 7zip and associate .apk with that instead of winrar. But you might have to change the file name in properties instead of maybe just right clicking and rename.

I fixed problem on my own, but thanks for helping guys.
Make sure that on your computer, you have 'See Hidden File Extensions' in your folders option. You can then rename it and you can change the type.

APKs are just ZIP files. Extract the files from the RAR, archive them as ZIP and then just rename to ".apk". I know this because this is how I theme.

[Q] Downloaded APK files saved as .zip?

Just recently, on two different PCs, whenever I downlaod an APK from XDA-Developers, they are saved as .zip files (saved as "app.zip" instead of "app.apk"). Downloading from other sites works fine.
Is it something with the forums? or with my PCs?
Can the file be unzipped?

Yes, the file can be unzipped & the contents are what would usually be in an apk file.
I just rename it to "app.apk" & it will work. Its just that it did not happen before, and now, on two PCs whenever I download an APK, I have to rename it first.
Apk in .zip
All APK's are just zip files in a format that Android understands and can un-zip almost like and be installed like a program. So, i think, you need to just change the .zip extension to .apk
The main question was that, previuosly downlaoded APK's from XDA were fine, now, they are saved as .zip. why?

Probably because its not illegal I guess... if you were to upload a paid app as an APK u could get in trouble whereas if its in a .zip file then its not considered an illegal file... if you get me... another possibility is that it just takes up less space hope this helps

Can't delete a file..

I guess this isn't SG3 specific, so if I should post elsewhere please let me know.
Phone is stock, not rooted.
I used an app called "unrar free" to extract the content of a rar file. I realised afterwards I'd extracted it in the wrong place, so deleted the extracted files, most disappeared but one can't be removed, ES file explorer refuses to remove it and wont rename it either.
The file name includes the character è, I think this is the cause of the problem as this character appears to be ® - I think unrar free screwed up when it created it.
The file is in a folder I have full access to, so if ES file explorer can't delete it, what can ?
Thanks
Try using terminal emulator and using cd to get into the address to delete it

Perfect! thanks.
I find root explorer succeeds whenever es fails, is not just for root, is better at what it does even on stock
Edit: seems I forgot to change my build prop back lol, oh well it's a jewel of a post I guess

Nice did it work? That's what I end up having to do in windows and Linux when something like this happens

[Q] How to share apk/iso files over bluetooth

Ok when I want to send a jpg or txt or whatever over bluetooth is easy but when I try to send an apk or iso file the bluetooth option isn't even there. After searching the net the options are change the extension to .txt or something that it allows or use an app.
My question is is there a way like a MOD or a custom ROM like CM to allow the sharing of these files natively like you go to your favorite file manager (I use Astro file manager) select the file and share it.
There's this app.
And there's also an explanation here that explains why we can't send too much big files over BT.
Change the name in a file explorer to .txt and send. Then change back to .apk after

Guys I want to do it without using an app and without changing the extension.
And the file I tried to send was like 4 mb.

:crying: what the hell is wrong with google for not allowing that to happen.
Blame the people who shared mp3s on their phones over Bluetooth like 5 years ago.

can be done
So this can be done. Many Roms modify the bluetooth.apk to allow receiving of any file type. All you need to do is find a modified Bluetooth.apk and then replace the existing one in /system/app and then set the perms to RW r r with owner root root.
Cm11 allows sending and receiving any file type so I tried the Bluetooth.apk from the hammerhead image. Unfortunately cm11 is too different from stock so Bluetooth kept crashing.
The other option is for someone to modify the stock app for us and repost it. The following thread gives an example of what to do. Essentially you have to recompile the bluetooth.apk from source code of the aosp. Before doing this you must modify constants.java in the bluetooth source.
I'm not sure how to do this so any help would be much appreciated.
