[Q] Can't Apply T-Mobile Update to Rooted SGS24G - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

Hi-
I rooted my phone a month ago. I have had no problems except that when I try to download T-Mobile's software update, I get stuck in Clockwork recovery. I don't know what to do next.
Please help!
Thx!
(I rooted my phone based on Melvin's [HOWTO] ROOT T-Mobile SGSII via ODIN -- Updated Recovery on 10/20/2011 and the recovery by Bubbly in the Developer's Forum.)

Only speaking for myself.
I have never with any ROM I originally or later thereof been able to get any update pushed.
Kies and their newer Windows proggie has not once worked despite drivers etc.
Gotta tell you, the ROM's here at XDA are better any way's.

Can you recommend a ROM that would be compatible?
thx!

[Q] Upgrading to Gingerbread on rooted atrix

Hey all. New user so I wasnt able to post on the development thread I saw. So I saw that Motorola has the official update to 2.3, and from what Ive read if you have unlocked your phone, updating will most likely brick your phone. What about on simply a rooted atrix? Will i be fine updating to 2.3? Will my phone still be rooted?
Actually, as being newbie too.. I understood that only DOWNGRADE from Gingerbread backward to any previous version will brick the phone.
Now, about updating already rooted phone.. i tried OTA but failed (got that yellow exclamation mark screen). So, what is necessary to successfully update rooted 1.83 to GB and to have root access again after? If possible not to loose any data, partitions etc.. Or simply how to apply OTA update on rooted phone then to root it again?
Rooted Atrix
First time posting here, hopefully I am on the right thread.
I am currently using Android V 2.2.2 on a rooted AT&T Atrix. I tried downloading the new Motorola released Gingerbread over-the-air, which downloaded fine. However when I try to install I keep getting "exclamation" mark with the android logo. I hard to hard reset the phone and got the message "software upgrade failed" message.
Is there something I am supposed to do prior to the installation? Since my phone has already been rooted (that's about all I did).
Thanks for any help. And glad to be here. better late than never.
I have heard that in order to upgrade to Gingerbread 2.3.4 OTA from Rooted 2.2.2 of Atrix 4G, We need to UNROOT first. if not OTA upgrade will soft brick the phone.
As i heard, there is another solution which is to OFFLINE upgrade via USB cable by computer. first is to download the Gingerbread ROM for ATRIX 4G from Motorola website.
For exact How-To guide I am not sure and can't find yet. if any one know How to Unroot and Offline upgrade, Please help to clarify.
Please let me know if Unroot the "gingerbreak" on 2.2.2 will cause any trouble? as i have experienced rooting Atrix 4G Froyo 2.2.2 by Gingerbreak has vanished all my internal memory contents :'( . now time for unroot and upgrade.. feel very risky!!!
Please HELP!
theres a forum for all of your questions
you'll get more attention from other atrix users

Lg Optimus G2x from Wind, rooted & Unlocked

Hi,
I have got this LG optimus G2X from Wind, unlocked, and rooted. The thing is that I am still using 2.2, and for the longest time I have been waiting for an update, yet nothing seems to appear. I was looking around and I found this guide:
http://www.lg-phones.org/how-to-flas...ngerbread.html
To my knowledge it seems pretty legit, but the links are old, and I can no longer get the files I need to perform the upgrade. Do you guys advice me to perform such an upgrade, or should I go for custom ROMs (not a big fan)?
Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Welcome to the forum!
You have to do some reading to avoid bricking your wind G2X. To update from stock froyo(2.2) you can proceed two directions:
1. Install custom recovery to be safe and then backup your current Froyo ROM, then finally choose your preferred ROM from development section. This procedure will not update your baseband (you probably have the June wind baseband).
Clockwork recovery flash guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
2: Updating from stock Froyo to official gingerbread using lg update tool. This procedure will update your baseband to the latest July one, however you will get all t-mobile bloatwares with that stock gingerbread ROM.
Proceed to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1332350
Option 2 requires stock recovery/ROM. You have those at the moment (i assume), so if you haven't rooted your device yet then give it a shot to have the July baseband.
With both option i would prefer to flash clockwork recovery first, make a backup then if you go with option2 flash back the stock recovery(how toguide is in option 1's link).
You might also wanna use some application/settings/call logs/contacts backup tool which requires root, like titanium backup/my backup. For those to work root your device using one click root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
Make your preferred backup with any of those above mentioned applications, then if you go with option 2, then use super one click to unroot your phone before proceed.
Please take the time to read the instructions, since a couple of folks had issues updating wind handsets to the July baseband.
Good luck!

I actually stumbled into the same situation as you when I was rooting my friend's sg2. I used this thread to get me out of code red: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348. It worked on my second try.

[Q] Samsung Galaxy S II LTE Root [SOLVED]

Alright, so I got a Samsung Galaxy S II LTE I9210, and I want to root it.
This is not the right section of the forum, I know, but its the closest to my device, so meh.
Don't tell me to go search around the forums and google because they are all outdated and I looked through all of them before posting.
All the other posts state that the method out there will break the soft key functions, and that is pretty bad.
Is there any finalized way to do it without the chance of breaking the functionality of the softkeys?
As well as OTA updates, I want to know if there is any ICS builds for this phone released. Where I live, even if you don't have a modified phone/rooted phone, you will not get any OTA updates, any way to find out if you can get the ICS update?
Thanks,
Nicholas
I used the super oneclick and it worked fine.

What specs were you running on?
Android Version? I9210 (not telstra I9210T)? Can you post instructions for me please?
Our device and yours have nothing in common, the samsung galaxy s2 is closer, our chipets are different (exynos vs qualcomm)
With that said the latest version of one click does root your phone without issue.
No we use the same processor. We both use Qualcomm.
I'm not sure whether everything is the same, but people using the I9210T variant can flash Skyrocket and I727 ROMs.
You sure I can just download the latest SuperOneClick and click Root, and root without the soft key problem?
Also, what shall I do about the recovery portion? Because I actually prefer having a nandroid backup of my ROM without Root first. Can you just install ROM Manager and flash a ROM like that? Usually when people get the soft key problem, they will flash the original non-rooted nandroid's boot.img file into their current ROM and it will re-enable the soft keys.
Lastly, by doing it in SuperOneClick, it will not trigger the flash counter am I correct?
Thanks for taking time to answer these questions.
Look here and read carefully

Yeah thanks for your reply.
I already got my phone rooted using the Skyrocket rooting procedure.
I pretty much needed to flash a custom recovery so i can nandroid backup my ROM before a direct root yet.
Thanks all for your help
So basically, I used this to root:
http://translate.google.com/transla...4/como-fazer-root-no-samsung-galaxy-s-ii.html
as the translation wasn't properly translated, I followed the instructions here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1340526
Did a full nandroid backup before installing the SuperSU package in CWM.
Everything works, softkeys all work, no triangle at boot, no binary counter trigger. Everything's good.
It worked on my phone with specs:
Samsung Galaxy S II LTE - GT-I9210
Android Version: 2.3.6
Build Number: GINGERBREAD.ZHLD2
Baseband Version: I9210ZHLD2
If your soft key functions break AFTER flashing the superuser.zip or SuperSU package, restore your boot from your nandroid backup! THIS IS WHY YOU NEED A NANDROID BACKUP OF YOUR PHONE WHEN IT ISN'T ROOTED YET!
CWM Recovery -> Backup/Restore -> Advanced Restore -> Choose your Nandroid Backup Date -> Restore Boot -> Reboot, then reboot AGAIN after successful boot.
Hi,
Ive been scouring the forums and I have the GT-I9210T telstra variant. Will these rooting methods work on my telstra variant?
the baseband version is I9210TDVLD1 and the build number is GINGERBREAD.DLVD1
This is my frist android phone and I really want stock ICS installed, telstra promises its only a few months away, but I want the benefits of rooting your phone also
I'm having some troubles re-rooting
Okay, I rooted my phone about a month ago and put the leaked Stock SGSII: Skyrocket ROM on it and when I did it completely wiped my phone, took my root off and everything, but I still have the ROM, I tried to re-root my phone with the same superoneclick that I did before, But it wont work, any help would be greatly appreciated.
I never used a superoneclick...but I did follow this thread....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1565126
I've done this for each of the 3 ICS leaks so far and each time it works without issue.
Note you may get the hang on "power-off" or "restart" If you do, flash CWM Touch and that will fix it.

[Q] Difficult with ROMS

I currently have a Samsung Galaxy skyrocket. The issue I am having is trying to get new ROMS. Please read so I can explain. I had an issue and soft bricked the phone. I went from having the rogers skyrocket i727r to having the at&t skyrocket i727... Since then I have managed to root the phone. But i am having trouble getting passed the next step. I tried using a rom and following procedures (I have ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.6). Is there a way to get the newest clockworkmod recovery? Because the ROM I tried kept saying status 7, aborted... Thank goodness my phone was able to reboot back to the stock ROM I currently have it in... Any suggestions as to what is going on?
I found the link that I used to get the AT&T stock. The rogers one does not work, this is how i ended up with AT&T phone...
