Google music? - General Questions and Answers

Hey everybody I'm looking at trying to reset or mass delete my google music library. I have deleted a lot of music from iTunes since I last did a sync to GM. So still when I play the music on my phone it plays the songs I have deleted. If anyone knows a way please let me know. Thanks.

OK you'll have to go to your computer and log in to Google music. Then its in the top right by the gear. In the settings. Glad to see I'm not the only one wondering. Hope this helps others.

I think its great, I have a pretty big music library on my computer and it lets me access all those in the cloud without having to burn up the memory on my phone.

[Q] Best way to wirelessly sync Mac iTunes WITH playlists in tact?

I know this has been answered, but anyone have the latest and greatest opinion? Doubletwist the best or are there others better? I have a mac so needs to be compat.

Cool, syncing and trying out now, it looks great! ThankYou!
Question about the app: does it only allow wireless sync through Wifi? Anyone know of an app that allows it to wirelessly sync with 3G? I'd like all of my music on the go.

Why would you need to sync over 3G? If you're not home, your music collection isn't being updated at home. I suggest an alternative like Amazon's Cloud Player Storage, which is free 5GB, or pay 69cents for a song and get 20 GB for a year free.
Actually, I should have worded it better. I don't actually want my music to wireless sync. I just want it to be able to wirelessly stream the music from my iTunes to my device. I don't want any actual mp3s stored on the SD card. Saw a video of this working at a Google IO event, I believe, and was just wondering if any apps were out there that has this ability.

Yeah, that's what doubletwist does. The problem is Apple doesn't play nice with other devices, so DoubleTwist fills the void. It takes your iTunes playlists and puts them onto your Android device. I don't use their streaming or wireless sync, I just plug in using a cable and connect that way.
Many like the Doubletwist program, but the issue I have with it is it doesn't have an equalizer built in so the audio is poor, but fortunately it even adds the playlists to the built in Music player in Android, so that Equalizer works great!
Give it a shot, I think it's what you're looking for.

Been reading up on the app and from my understanding, the wireless sync option saves a copy of your music on the SD card and then creates the same playlist you have on your iTunes. Going to give it a shot, but I'm still searching for an app that wirelessly streams all the music on your computer without saving hard copies on the SD card.

It does that too, you just have to enable that feature, which costs a couple bux

How are you getting it to do that? I have doubleTwist AirSync and I don't see any sort of option to achieve this.

AudioGalaxy. It's free on the Market, make an account on their website, then download their app for your PC and let is scan all your music. The streaming directly from your PC is completely free.

PERFECT! Exactly what I was looking for. Process was simple and streaming has been absolutely seamless so far. VZW's going to regret their unlimited data plan soon.

[Q] Google Music Duplicate Songs

Hi all, I've been using Google Music for a few weeks now and it's pretty cool.
However, one issue I've faced is duplicate songs being listed, i.e. the songs I have stored locally and in 'the Cloud' show up in the Google Music app.
I understand it's beta but are there any workarounds? I've tried the ones from the Droid Incredible thread BTW.
Thank you.

Did you ever get an answer to this? I am seeing the same on my phone and was wondering what/if any solution is out there
I'm in the same boat. I've just picked up a Nexus.
Seems the only way to have them local and not appear twice is to download them through the app as opposed to manually copying them over USB.

Have you checked what shows as your library when you log into Google Play from a "regular" computer?
Sometimes, the info it has stored for album & song descriptions - whatever the heck they call it - is not correctly set for it to recognize that something is a duplicate.
Also, I know that it does not know anything about what I may have loaded just onto my Nexus, even though it "syncs" - must be one-way only, Cloud to device.
Songs have to be "downloaded" (uploaded?) into Google Music for it to recognize them. You may have duplicates because of this.
A very nice work around is to setup playlists of specific albums & artists, for your locally loaded stuff & what is not duplicated, and ignore the Albums & Artist display modes on your device. You can setup a playlist with just one album, and not include the tracks you don't particularly like - isn't there. usually at least one on most albums? - and just the locally stored or Cloud stored versions of the song(s).
I have everything on my Nexus at this point so I can listen when not networked. Then again, I have not had it long so I've not eaten up all my storage yet.
I hope this helps!

streaming music straight from dropbox

so is there a good way to stream music from the dropbox folder besides clicking each one and clicking play .. so like just a shuffle kinda thing streaming straight from the dropbox folder ?
Why not use Google Music? You may have to reupload, but at least it is a dedicated app for that purpose?
I agree google music is your best option

Thanks for the groundbreaking update bro. Unless you can answer the question or provide an alternative, please keep the grumpfish inside the tank, ok ?
What I would suggest is creating an .m3u of all the files you want to shuffle and then opening that in winamp and shuffle them. Let us know how that works out

Joking aside, will that work with the music in Dropbox through the phone?! In all seriousness I totally want to try that (but I don't have the phone part of the equation quite yet) but knowing what admittedly little I do about the way Dropbox works on Android that doesn't seem like it would be possible...
I have been using Winamp since PC version 1.3 haha
droptun.es
Try http://droptun.es, you can stream all your music from dropbox folders. It's simple, but it works well.

Google play music

Hey all,
I am trying to sync music that I downloaded on my nexus 7 to my s3 via Google play music. I know it sounds like an an easy thing to do but I can't figure it out. The music was not downloaded from Google music though and I think that might be part of the issue. Any thoughts?

It needs to be put into the Google music cloud through the computer. Once your music is in the cloud you can get it on any device with your account on it.

How long have you waited? Often when I install Play Music it seems like nothing is there then I go back and an hour later all my music has thumbnails.

So basically if I have music on one device it has to go onto the PC then into the cloud? There isn't a way to just upload it from any device?

I think Google is trying to help prevent piracy by adding another layer here. But they require you to use a PC. I would strip metadata from the songs ie:downloaded from.... You never know what they will be monitoring. Many cloud services get a bit nosy with your files. Not saying Google has, but you do agree to only upload music you have legally purchased. Also you may have problems with legally owned music due to DRM, I highly recommend Wondershare media converter to strip DRM, and media monkey to manage libraries.
I can't even find my music with google music manager

I can't even find my music on my phone when I connect my phone usb and try to upload music. When I did find a folder with a cpl albums it would't upload em, as if they didn't exist wtf???? I go to an album click to select it and it says folder empty. I googled around and finally found this post which hit on my problem. I also see where you gave advice to strip the data from music or something if you didn't legally buy it
(110% of my music is dl from internet for free) and I'm thinking that may be my problem. If so can someone give a detailed explanation as to how I can fix this prob? Thanx in advance man!

I think you have to upload your songs to the Google Play Music cloud. (If "Gmusic" means Google Play Music)

I usually reboot my phone to get my music to show up.
Also try to force stop the app then open it again.
I think it has to refresh before new music can be added.

Of course. Once you have uploaded everything to the GPM cloud, you can then keep whatever you want on the device.

You don't need to upload anything. You can listen to your music on your device. Two ideas. First make sure then folder is "Music" rather than "music" Not really sure if the capital letter is necessary but try it anyway. Also, you've probably done this but in the app click on "Listen Now" at the top and select "on device". Also, click on the menu and select refresh.
are some of the songs without proper id3 tags? it seems to me that playmusic (google music) can not play by folders. it only recognizes like 4~5 folders. i have like 13 CDs in seperate folders and like to listen to them by folders. downloaded rocket player. it has option to play by folders and lists all the songs i have. god help me for using an apple product
