Ice Cream Sandwich ROM - Verizon Droid Charge

Is it just me or is there a complete lack of development for roms and themes with not only ics beta builds, but any other roms whether its tw or aosp . Has source for gingerbread or ics been released? Im recieving a free droid charge from work and i was lookin forward to getting a verizon phone comin frm At&T Desire HD but i see theres less development here. Does verizon usually lock all of their bootloaders to where source wont be released? Maybe i shoulda picked the Thunderbolt? Im new to verizon srry guys

There was a lot more development with FE version. The GB source just got released 2 weeks ago. So it's early. The main reason AOSP isn't available is because the RIL(Samsung) hasn't been released. And it probably won't because it isn't required.
But with the release of the Nexus and its very similar radio(google) and it's RIL there is hope that ICS will come out. Imnuts has stated that he will look into development. I don't want to overstate his position so I'll let him say what he wants if he decides to here.
Development isn't as robust on some phones. But I believe we will have a Renaissance period soon with GB source released and the Nexus software.
And one should remember any development is done on their time and sacrifice. We should maintain a patient attitude. Complaining doesn't help our cause. 1 complaint is no big deal but add that to a few other vocal folks and people get mad and stop releasing their software.

i kno that they have lives outside of this but i was just sharing what i noticed. Im prob gonna join development for porting after i finish my army IT training.
thanks bro for answering my question

I would call my post a cautious attempt to answer your question from the info I learned reading from the more educated folks here about this stuff mixed in with MHO. So other responses may come that help shed light on your question.
That would be great if you could join an help out the community. I know I nothing more than a leecher. With the explosion of android based phones I wished I had learned all about linux.
But anyway, development isn't totally dead. Just slow right now. I think(hope) it will pick back up with the new releases out.

This thread is beating a dead horse. If you would bother searching you would find many threads and posts asking the same thing. Even if development had stopped, there are plenty of options to make your phone fast and stable.

No longer the hot phone, that's all
I have been unable to find sales statistics by model, but even though the Charge is one of Verizon's more favored 4G phones, it is not the most interesting or performant phone out there now, if it ever was. Anyone in the market for a new high-end phone is likely waiting for the Galaxy Nexus, they are not likely to commit to a Charge at this point.
The folks who are most enthusiastic and productive in creating new ROMs and kernels have probably moved on to other phones. Not that there aren't still some great folks still working on the Charge, there are, but much of the herd has migrated elsewhere.
I have no inside knowledge, I don't know any of these people, I just know how developers tend to behave.
Sorry about all this, as others have pointed out, you still have options to make it a quite adequate phone.
Myself, I have come to the conclusion that Verizon's 4G is overrated - when it's good, it's great, but I am on 3G much of the time even though I live and work in metropolitan Boston.
My $.02

Yeah, faster internet speeds are overrated -_-

The point is I'm not paying for it. I won't even be in a contract. My job is giving me this phone for free and very heavily discount my plan. When I leave for the army in May and quit my job I have now, I have to give it back and switch my plan to a consumer contract plan if I wanna stay with vzw. I only had a choice of the charge, thunderbolt, and stratosphere. I ain't pick the thunderbolt bcuz my att inspire is the same thing and development is popping and on fire over there. Also picked charge over thunderbolt is bcuz of a 1600mAh battery vs 1400mAh in the thunderbolt
Sent from my Inspire 4G using XDA App

Plus the the GPU processor in the charge is better than in the thunderbolt and my inspire. I wont buy the vzw nexus or the galaxy s3 until I finish army basic training cuz I can't have a phone anyway during that time anyway. I would have to leave it home until I get out

I find it strange that people don't recognize how great the Charge hardware is. People think its a bad phone without spending any time optimizing it.
I for one think the Charge is the best single-core phone you can get. I personally feel that dual-core phones are largely a marketing ploy.
Multi-core is undoubtedly the future of phones, however, for most tasks its unnecessary.
To me it sounds like most of the whiners are just gamers who want more FPS for their gaming sessions. If you take the time to learn how to optimize the phone, its tough to beat the Charge.
Some things don't matter to some people such as the audio hub.
Wake me up when you find a better phone that has the Wolfson DAC, SAMOLED+, and 4G on Verizon.

This is simply not true, and dual-core is not a marketing ploy. Spend some time using a dual-core phone as a daily driver -- there's a substantial, noticeable difference in OS performance, for everything from just opening apps to multitasking, and anyone who says otherwise is either lying or intentionally deluding themselves.
I just don't understand why people find it so hard to accept that in 7-8 months, even the best phone will no longer be the best. That's just how technology works, whether it's a phone or computer.

I have spent time with all the new Verizon phones. My Charge is snappier than the stock Nexus by a fair margin. It is heavily nodded though. My Charge is snappier the the stock Razr as well. This dual core argument is all over the web.
If you like it, buy it. It provides the manufacturers the funding to make new great products.
It's hard to hear anything but whining on threads like these.
If you are too lazy to learn to modify and optimize your phone, so then either provide reasoning to back up your argument or go back to playing your video games.

I would say this is the best single core LTE phone on Verizon. It has the best screen, the best processor/GPU, biggest battery, hot-swappable SD/SIM, hardware android buttons.. I've had and used a Thunderbolt, a Revolution and now the Charge and this phone is significantly better than those.

Even with the development in place, the Charge is still a better choice over the TBolt or Stratosphere.
P.S. Infinity has been running great for me as a GB ROM, there are a few themes out for it now. Plus, I'm real confident that we're going to get ICS to run on the Charge. I can't say it will happen within a week or even a month, but I'm pretty sure it's going to happen. And at that point, you can bet we'll see AOSP ICS, CM9, and a slew of other ICS ROMs to hold us over until we all ***** and moan about getting Jelly Bean to work!

Apples to oranges, dude. Fair comparisons would be a stock Droid Charge to a stock Nexus/RAZR or a heavily modified Charge to a heavily modified Nexus/RAZR.

G2x Or Nexus S?

Hey Everybody,
Well I've had my Nexus S since March 23 and I've really enjoyed trying out various roms and tinkering around with the Android OS. (I came from an iPhone 4 on at&t.) Now I feel like I'm at a crossroad trying to decide what phone to stick with for the next year or so. I have till the 23 to return the nexus to best buy. I bought unlocked and if I do decide to switch I'll do the same with the G2x. How many of you are coming from the nexus s on this forum and what made you want to switch the most? I'm primarily concerned with the battery life on the G2x and updates either from LG or modders. The things I don't like about the nexus s are 3G data speeds (2.5-3 down and 1-1.5 up in my area, Birmingham, AL) and 1 day to day in a half battery life. What would you guys or girls do in a similar situation? Can anyone comment on the "4G" data speeds in this area of the country or in general on T-Mobile? I've read various reports of speeds from 5-9 Mbps down and your average up. I also hope the 4G won't kill battery and we'll have a killswitch when not in use. I'm sure most have seen the mobileburn video, she seemed to put down the nexus s screen in favor of the G2x. I find that hard to believe seeing how awesome the samoled screen looks and how black the blacks are. Anyone who's seen the G2x in store that can confirm the findings she had? Thanks for any help anyone can offer up!

ive only played around with the nexus s so i cant say its better
i can point out things the G2x has over the nexus
DUAL CORE
1080p video/mirroring
4G
and a few more
i am a past VIBRANT/SGS4G owner and can confirm the G2x screen is more "vibrant" than the Super amoled BUT nothing can top the AMOLED blacks/dark colors
i held the SGS4G up to the "test" G2x the local store has with the brightness turned all the way down on both the G2x is much brigher (battery killer?)
and with them turned all the way up (both)
id say the G2x is still brighter/more colorful
i love samsung for their screens but remember just like the nexus this is a GOOGLE phone so updates will come alot quicker than a bloated phone
obviously the dual core vs single core is speaking for its self
and the 1080p video/mirroring does too
the 4G in my area (wisconsin) isnt that great but i did notice hella faster speedtest on my SGS4G than on my vibrant
honeslty if i where you id get the G2x its got a few upsides over the nexus
and for battery i hear its good (1day) for being a monster (dualcore/4g)
this phone is faster than my laptop witch is sad
mines is on its way as you can tell from my sig
but before getting it... i recommend trying it out in the store first
it is kinda heavy feeling (good way) like the nexus s
but its all user preference dont buy it just because people on a forum say its good...
**G2x gets gingerbread mid summer*** (june)
Thanks man, I appreciate the quick response! You make some good points. I'll most likely be going to T-Mobile on Monday or Tuesday to try it out and compare to my Nexus S. It certainly looks like an awesome phone either way so I hope you enjoy yours! The dual core goodness and 4G will most likely be the top selling points if I do dive in.

no problem man!
if your still wanting to see what it can do just google "G2x reviews" they got some staggering stats/benchmarks already up plus you can see a little more of the functionality i didnt describe!
I have both, but my Nexus S is now for sale. The G2x blows it away in every area except black levels and form factor. I thought by looking at GPU benchmarks that it would only be marginally faster...I was wrong. It puts the Nexus S to shame. Apps load dramatically faster, web browsing is much faster and smoother, the whole user experience is just better. This phone far exceeds my expectations. I prefer the display to samoled and the battery life is up there with the Nexus S.
Even though I'm an update junkie (one of those guys obsessively hitting refresh on XDA when I catch wind of an OTA), I'm willing to give up 2.3.3 for the faster hardware. It just really is that much better.
If you would like me to perform any specific comparisons let me know.

Not just work - This has been the case for a long time. The phone will work on either carrier's 3G/4G networks, which is a first I believe.
Anyway, from what I've been reading, the G2x blows away even the original O2x - I saw a run of Quadrant where the planet and moon graphics test was pumping 100-120FPS!
G2X. Period. I sell high end mobile phones for a living and I've owned a Vibrant, a Nexus S now and soon to be G2X. I got to play with the G2X at work for about 5 hours and its an amazing device. Just like others said, the screen, 1080p, hdmi etc...My nexus will be promptly going on craigslist with 0 regrets.

Its a great OS but i do like to interchange between Sense and MIUI as well

I will be getting G2x.
I also have NS, and the black level on NS is nowhere to match (unlimited contrast), but the black level on G2x is still pretty good and the viewing angle is good as MT4 (no defect unit) and GTab.
The only concern is the calling quality. LG phones are weak on this category if you ask me. Calling quality on NS is good (especially speakerphone). It's still a phone after all.
I've had my Nexus S for about 2 weeks and I've been trying to not want to get the G2X, but I'm slowly getting swayed. I paid cash for my phone from Best Buy, so I think they'd have to send me a check in the mail with my money. Until then, I'd have no phone. So, that's what will probably hold me back from getting one.

The waiting is it worth, and it would be max. one week.. You won't regret it
G2x all the way
i too have a NS. Really considering moving to the G2X. The pros outweigh the cons tremendously in my opinion. Quick updates and black levels are the only things the NS has over the G2X. We just got 4G here in Nashville also so im chomping at the bit to get the speeds that i'm already paying for.

You are correct in that it will be "up there" with updates...sooner than phones that need to have custom UIs modified by companies like HTC, Samsung, and *cringe* Motorola. However, there is an important distinction to be made...Nexus S updates come straight from Google, whereas G2x updates come from T-Mobile which causes a notable delay. Nexus S clearly wins in this department.

[Q] Should I buy a TB out of contract?

I am really really sick of this Droid 2 that VZW replaced my Droid with. I'm sick of Moto services invading my phone and slowing it down. There's no true ASOP build. This phone sucks balls.
I was set on buying an Incredible 2 OoC b/c it was cheap at $440 and saving my upgrade till later, but where I'm moving to next week already has LTE towers.
Do I really want to wait 2 months using this laggy trash? And possibly end up getting a TB anyway because the other phones coming out suck.
Or do I want to get a TB and save my upgrade till later in the Q4 2011/Q1 2012 when NFC Ice Cream Sandwich phones come out.
Don't want a Charge, poor build material choices.
Don't want a Revolution. Bing...
Does it really matter? Not really... You just root and you can put whatever you want and however you want.
Motorola tends to lock their bootloaders and make it hard to do what you want.
Samsung stated that they'll never lock it that way(Not in those words, but given the sense that they will leave it open)
HTC has been locking down their devices, but not as tough as Motorola does.
So basically pick a device with the hardware you want, and make sure it's root and you can install custom roms/kernels.
The T-Bolt is a great phone, and it has excellent community support. I have absolutely no complaints about my phone (aside from the battery life).
That being said, the Galaxy S II that's coming out looks sexy as hell. It might be worth the wait to hold out for that. Honestly, it's totally up to you.
There was talk about tiered 4G plans, which is what made me opt for the early upgrade to the T-Bolt (hoping to be grandfathered in to unlimited 4G). I haven't heard much on that front, but it's still a possibility.
wait a few months
from everything i've ever read about samsung phones, their software support is absolutely horrible. slow updates, faulty gps etc. i've heard a ton of people complain about the issue, and it seems to be the case with all their phones... never had one, but that's the impression i get.
the thunderbolt is a decent phone, but all it really has over the droid x is 4g. the t-bolt screen might be a little better, but not much. in day to day use it's not faster, the battery isn't even close and the build quality of the DX is equal or better. if i were you i would pick up a DX on craigslist for $175 and save your upgrade for a few months. The dx has even more dev support than the T-bolt and it's the best phone I ever had.
bottom line is, if you really want 4g speeds right now, really really bad, then get the thunderbolt. if you can do without that for awhile i think you will be really happy with a DX, especially after using the Droid 2, and you'll spend less than half the money.
the above is just my .02.
Show me a HTC or Motorola phone with latest software on it
Not you fat Jesus
I bought mine off contract and am very happy I did it. Yes there are a few issues, but nothing a little root cant fix.
Though waiting a few months for a better phone won't hurt, the TB is a great choice.

I just have to say that this cracks me up every time I see you post it.
Once you get a taste of 4G, you will never want a phone that is 3G only. So if you are moving to 4G area and don't want to pay full retail, I suggest you get a used Tbolt from craigslist and use it until something comes along that you like better, then sell the Tbolt
i love my TB, i have it rooted with das bamf NTE 1.6.3 and its about the coolest thing since MP3s.. as with others, the battery life on this thing is fkin AWFUL!! i have the extended battery and i still dont feel like its enough, however i use my phone probably more than i should or more than others. either way the LTE network is retarded fast and i'd never want 3g.
First off I just want to say I owned a droid 2 and it wasn't that bad. I jumped to the thunderbolt just to lock in the 4g rate. The bigger screen is a nice plus but other than that is the same thing. I wasn't overly impressed as other owners of the droid x and 2 have stated is not that big of a jump.
Before I end let me just say other than software wise android phones are exactly where I want them. I don't need a dual core chip in my phone and 4g is. good enough for anything I would ever want to do with my phone. I'm sure most of you will disagree but that's just how I feel. Flame away!

I picked up a TB on craigslist for $350. The custom roms still seem a bit premature, however they should evolve over time. Nonetheless it's an amazing phone. If you have a desk job or spend a lot of time in your car, the battery life is not much of an issue. Just stay plugged in.
Got my TB off Craigslist for a fascinate trade plus 150$. I love it so far.. 4g is amazing..once you.have it you won't want to go back.
Roms are not bad. I'm waiting for a complete cm7 or sense 3.0 rom but other than that das bamf runs fantastic.
If you have the cash and want a great phone with a growing dev community, go for it.

Thank you for all the input.
It's funny the other 2 forums told me I'm a moron and this one says Buy a TB!!!
I use over 2GB of data a month so the 4G unlimited (Hopefully grandfathered for life) makes it very tempting since my upgrade isn't till mid July which is around the time the rumors of tiered data plans landing. I'm also not to optimistic about an actual new phone coming out then. Maybe the SGSII but I really hate the fact that it doesnt have a search button. It's a damn Google phone and I use the search button all the time, for GOOGLE, not Bing!
I didn't even think about craigslist. That might be a good option.
As for a cheap DX. No way. It basically is a D2 minus the keyboard. I like the keyboard, I can sacrifice it for a 4G newish phone but not for an X. and I hate the Blur invasion, and locked bootloader. My D2 has been running custom roms. They're just too laggy and buggy still. Fab, Kejar, and Rummy are awesome, but they all had DXs and the D2 ports were just not good. Most of it I blame on Blur still having to be in there. I've been running GB stock blur and custom and for the first time since my D1 ADW launcher gets kicked out of memory and has to reload when I hit home.... I hate it.
EBay is your friend. Lots of Tbolts available every day, including NIB models. Prices similar to Craigslist, depending where you are.

Thunder bolt charge or x2

So I can get a free upgrade and I hour the choice between the 3 phones and I really can't Decide which I've to get 4g will be in my area in august

Go with the thunderbolt or charge and do get it before July 7 th for unlimited 3g/4g unless you already have unlimited 3g

My gf just got a dx2 as a replacement for her fascinate. It's a nice device out of the box. I easily prefer my t-bolt with a nice Rom though. So what I'm saying is if you are looking for a stock experience and don't care about 4g than a dx2 wouldn't be a bad choice. There seems to be little if any developing for the dx2 so it wouldn't be my choice. The dual core isn't as impressive as you might think, although I did notice a little less lag using the camera.

x2 vs Thunderbolt/Charge = apples vs oranges.
I might be biased in saying this but definitely the Thunderbolt

I sell phones at Verizon and I would be lying if I didn't say that I steer people towards the Bolt. That being said I have used all 3 extensively on my down time and my preference really comes down to which has the most support...bolt.

+1 i agree as a rep my self i do rather like the AMOLED screen on the Charge but the dev community for the thunderbolt is what keeps me going
So what happens when a Verizon rep gets caught on a rooted tbolt?
they dont care as long as we are not promoteing it or even talking about it in store since it technically voids warranty. It is our device we can do what we want with it. i show mine to my bosses all the time and are just shocked at the improvments that have been made to it.
x2 if you don't want/need 4G (but trust me, once you see it, you'll want it). Charge if you prefer amoled display & don't mind Touchwiz & you're not a flash addict. Tbolt if you like to try different roms & kernels. Among the 3 phones you listed, the Tbolt dev community is most active

look at the speedtest in my sig. That is all the upgrade you need!!!
Faced with a similar decision and went with the bolt. Thrilled that I did. Great dev community and love the phone. 4g when I have it is sweet. Family members just got the x2 and in comparison to my bolt with Th3ory on it, the x2 feels wicked slow even with 2 cores behind it
If you don't care about rooting and different roms get charge. That display is gorgeous! Otherwise bolt. Forget about a 3G phone...
X2 was outdated before it came out. no 4g.
now if you really want a huge community go with thunderbolt
if you really reallly like touchwiz go for the charge
oh and if your afraid the thunderbolt isnt an update from the incredible? you'd be sorely mistaken. I used to have the incredible and this is so much better. processor is much stronger (can oc to 1.9) and the ram on this makes it run smooth as butter.
I personally think the Thunderbolt is a gorgeous phone. Loved it since the moment I got it. 4G everywhere allows me to download any new ROM's (200+ MB) in a matter of minutes. Community is damn near booming. Its a great phone, definitely will be sticking with it for a long time.

I don't show customers my Bolt just the demo one HTC sent, they don't mind as long as I'm not telling a customer about rooting.

I went with the last week when my girlfriend and I moved to our own plan. Took it back 2 days later and got the thunderbolt... Best Decision Ever.. lol
Charge honestly felt like a downgrade from my Droid X... even with the 4G
Thunderbolt feels sturdy, charge... not so much
Charge screen is definitely more "vivid" but I feel that the thunderbolts screen was a step up from the droid x..
So while the Charges screen was pretty nice.. thunderbolt is still enough for me..
As far as battery life goes.. I know I only really had the charge for a day.. but compared to my first day with the thunderbolt the phones were relatively equal for me
In the end.. i say tbolt... but its all in personal preference.. never played with an X2

Thunder bolt is a bust

I got the TB first week of its release. I was its biggest fan, defending it, learning everything about it, rooting , roming, kerneling, tweaking. Everything like a normal flashaholic would do.
To set the Hate straight, I adore HTC because its rooted in my DNA and I support my countries products. But OMFG the Thunderbolt is a bust. I know our natural reaction is to defend it because most of us are locked up for 2 years, and maybe some even spent cash to buy this phone out of contract. God bless you.
But this phone has not lived up to the hype. not one bit. This is not the phone of my ****ing dreams. all i see is the potential for this phone to be great. While we are waiting for this potential to happen, other phones are slowly coming in and smashing our Dreams..
The sooner we can be honest with ourselves is when we can finally appreciate what this phone is. Its average, maybe its better then the older phones, maybe this was the next gen android, but this is the pre alpha next gen android.
If i was going to buy anything based on potential and speculation i would buy this phone for $100.. if i were to buy a phone of my dreams, then i would pay $250..
1st round BUST.
I like the TB but have three advantages over most people.
1. I didn't have any expectations going into the purchase. When I found out that Verizon was going to tiered pricing I just looked at the available phones and picked the TB. A colleague has one and he had good reviews. It replaced my ageing Droid Incredible and has done a fine job of doing that. Not having expectations makes a phone better. I didn't set the bar higher than the device could live up to.
2. I don't change ROMS. I'm happy with the stock phone based upon #1 above.
3. I'm in a situation where I don't have to worry about contract length. If I want to change in a few months, I will. It puts a lot less stress on me to make sure the phone performs. I'll probably have a different phone by the end of the year.
I love my Thunderbolt. Now that I'm running CM7 and a custom kernal it great. I had an Eris for 18 months, I know pain
Plus something better is always going to come along within months, it's the nature of the industry.
I have had my Tbolt since Launch and Im have been happy with it. I never experienced any of the issues that were reported around. Its done everything I could ask and running strong. I only rooted to have the wifi teather..
My only peeve with the bolt is that the screen won't turn off when I'm in a call.
other than that i am ok with it.
And i qualify for an upgrade within 6 months (didnt pay full price for the bolt either). hopefully vz will get a LTE nexus phone.

The TB is still the best LTE phone. For verizon in general though the DX2 and Droid3 are not bad options especially if you are not in a 4G area

damn I've never been so happy with a phone before, does everything short of getting me off.
I love my TB. If u think its pre alpha or whatever u can wait. But in the end ur always going to be waiting cuz there is always going to be a phone thats better then the last one.
So far the pros have outweighed the cons. Not many smartphones will deliver 35+Mbps download speeds. I at times get data speeds that is faster than most peoples home wifi. Of course its not perfect. It also has things I don't like. But I intend to keep it until the next HTC with LTE is released.

Add me to the loving my TBolt since launch group. It's still the best LTE phone on VZW IMO. That could change when the Bionic drops, but by then I will have been enjoying this phone for 6 months. I'm a patient man, but not that patient.

I've got no patience. I bought my TB on January and since I've bought a INC and OG Droid. I haven't even received the droid but I want a Droid 3 now. I'm actually thinking of selling my Glock for the Droid 3 but I know in 6 months I'll feel bad for doing it.
Edit: The Tbolt is a great phone I'm just bored already.
I got my Thunderbolt about a month after release and other than the battery life I have had no complaints. There will always be things that it owuld be nice to change on any phone.....(hence rooting). But even the things I can't change are still ok to me. I got in before the tiered plans started and when the bionic comes out I am seriously considering it but if I don't get that and I wait a bit longer these things I know for sure when I get a new phone.
1) It will be a 4G LTE phone. 4G is exceptional in the Spokane area and I am addicted to the download speeds. After playing with my sons phone and my wifes Droid X, I will happily stay with 4G
2) I want a same size screen. (Just cant imagine squinting my eyes to see my phone screen again
3) It will have to be a VZW phone because other than AT&T nobody else has as good a connection to me
4) I gotta be able to root it because crapware\bloatware sucks

I agree. The OP is a reoccurring troll.
If he was trolling I think he's failed pretty miserably. Every post has been pro TB.

Would you recommend this phone?

Hey guys, long time android user here. Started out with the G1, then the Galaxy S, then a Viewsonic Gtablet, and am currently on a galaxy nexus and a transformer prime tablet, and have rooted and flashed multiple roms on each and every one, thanks to the wisdom and guidance found in the XDA community. My question is this: my wife is currently with tmobile and her 2 year contract is up. I want her to come to verizon with me (for many reasons) she will be coming from a HTC G2. Would you recommend this phone? I know it may be hard to be unbiased on this but please try. I've never had a hummingbird processor before, and the 8mp camera beats my 5mp on my nexus (at least on paper). Could some one possible make me a short list of pros and cons as you have found them to be while using this phone as a daily driver? There is no one i trust more then members of the XDA community so your oppinions on this phone will pretty much make my decision for me, thanks!!
depends on how often she would use it and what for.
i love my charge (except for the battery life - but it is inline with all other android devices). the charge is great when rooted with the tweaked 2.2 from dwith. however, there is little to no hope on this phone getting ICS (has the latest GB though).
if your wife is tech savy and knows how to use an android phone, the charge will be fine (just don't expect much support, as the community has dwindled down to a few loyal folks - I think those folks left for the nexus or GS3).
I've heard that the GS3's bootloader is locked, so customizing may be tricky for awhile. and the nexus does not have removable memory (from what I'm told).
that being said, VZW is phasing out the Charge, and the nexus is only $150 (charge listed at $100, with the CPO being $80), so I would lean more towards the nexus.
however, if she complained about the HTC, might as well get her iPhone (I got my wife that, and have not heard a single complaint from her).
This is a good phone.
But are you looking to buy off contract or a subsidized two year...

It's good...but outdated. The 4G sucks down battery like no other, the Hummingbird is outdated, the 512 mb of RAM is a hindrance at times, we have been abandoned by most devs (thank god dwitherell learned how to ROM), and it's pretty much guaranteed we will never see ICS, official or otherwise.
That being said, this was my first Android phone and it was the best phone out when I had my upgrade. Going back, I wouldn't change my decision, I'm happy with this device. This phone is also very forgiving, meaning if you f*ck up then it's easy to unbrick. A great beginners phone, but if I were to get a new phone at this point I would probably pass on this one (especially if this is going to be left stock) unless this is the best deal around.

Ditto. Well put. This is my first smart phone. I did a lot of research and knew that better phones were going to come out. But I also found out unlimited data was about to end at Verizon. I grabbed it because it was the best phone available at the time when I could still get unlimited data. Now the only way I'll keep my unlimited is to pay full price for the next one. But then, I've never been able to use very much data because signals suck where I work and I can't listen to Pandora radio or watch Netflix during breaks. If I try I use up my battery in no time flat. I feel totally screwed by Verizon. If the other carriers didn't have crappy coverage I'd switch to another.
