Hey guys,
I've been reading a lot of similar threads and haven't been able to get anything to work.
I wiped my Nexus S and installed a stock ICS. It unrooted my device and now I can't seem to root it.
I have no idea how to flash ZIP files. When I try to boot into recovery I get a red triangle. Pressing the power and up buttons I get a screen with the following options:
Reboot
Update from SD card
Wipe data
Wipe cache
The Update from SD card option won't let me flash any ZIP file.
I'm totally clueless right now and would be very thankful for some expert help.
In addition, I've been trying to follow this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1007782
I'm stuck on #14 of section 1 ("14 - Then from the list 3 choices select Android Bootloader Interface"). I see no such list and I don't think I'm installing the right drivers. I tried letting it install on it's own and it worked but I don't think it installed anything like "Android Bootloader Interface".
Everything else didn't work afterwards.
Edit: Nevermind, I managed to get that done. Anyway, the device is already unlocked. Now I'm having trouble with the Command Prompt part, more specifically with the line "5 - Then type "fastboot flash recovery 3024v3-i9023.img" & hit enter". Please?

Just extract it ...and click run.bat ...... good luck !
I think I tried that earlier today at work.
Do I need to be on bootloader mode or just have the phone on regularly?

regularly mode is enough ....
Why would it wipe everything on my device, including the SD card? I don't want that to happen...
Aw come on don't leave me now
I'll get this done tomorrow. I'd like to make sure exactly what gets lost and how to recover it first.

So before I installed Cyogenmod months ago I forgot to backup everything but I didn't think it mattered as everything was running smooth. I try to update to a nightlybuild that was in my settings and TWRP said it failed. Every single time I tried to reboot or factory reset I would constantly go back to the TWRP screen. I've tried drag and dropping multiple roms onto the phone, find it and 'swipe to confirm flash' but it ALWAYS says fail no matter what. And when I try to go to reboot it says 'WARNING: No OS found.' I've been trying all day and I literally need this phone to work but nothing I do is helping. Please help? Or ask any questions you guys need to know.:crying::crying::crying:
How bout the specs on that phone?
Model, link me to the phone here on xda, link me to the support page of your manufacturers website, etc.
Sounds like a partitioning issue.

For Samsung phone:
Go download mode and flash a ROM through ODIN.
For non-Samsung devices:
Flash a ROM from SD-Card.
Smack that Thanks button if I helped!
XDAing from a N7105 powered by Illusion ROM.
Sent from a small country called Singapore.
P.S. Time for school, not much time for XDA

First, flash to stock based on carrier.
Taken straight from an xda forum post for the sprint model Here is a page that has the stock ruu's use the one at the bottom of the list.

Second, fastboot flash the latest twrp img for your evo. (Or however you got it on there in the first place.)
Last, get back to cm or whatever rom you want using the way that you originally got there.

At the Windows command prompt, using the fastboot binary at bootloader mode with a usb cable connected and the proper htc drivers installed which can be found in xda forum for your device. :silly:
I'd appreciate any help to get my phone working again. I've only had it for a couple of weeks and I'm hoping I haven't completely ruined it...
I'll try to recall the exact steps I took to get to this point:
First, towelroot wouldn't work to get root due to me accepting the OTA update to 4.4.4 android. So I found on a forum post that you can use Odin to flash the stock kernel and then towelroot will work. So I downloaded the stock kernel and flashed it successfully using Odin. Towelroot was then able to work with success. After that I installed SuperSU and busybox. Then I was using this guide (URL omitted due to forum rules) to install SafeStrap recovery as I'd read CWM recovery didn't work for the G900A model (AT&T). Safestrap seemed to install OK and when I rebooted I was able to get into the SafeStrap software interface. From there, I attempted to flash the CM12 nightly build to the "stock rom" slot (I'd read there was some trouble using the non-stock-rom slots in SafeStrap). That operation completed with success, but when I tried to reboot, it froze at the CM12 splash screen. I tried this with a few more custom ROMS and they all do the same thing (freeze up on boot logo / splash screen).
I've tried using Odin to flash back the stock firmware. As long as I didn't try to flash the bootloader (BL) Odin shows "PASS". However, when it reboots it again hangs on the Samsung splash screen.
So at this point, I've flashed all stock firmware to the phone (except BL) and it freezes and then goes black screen on the Samsung splash screen. Also, it no longer shows the SafeStrap "recovery / continue" bootup screen since I flashed the stock firmware.
Any ideas on how I can get back to a useable device?...

"odindownload.com" will install a LOT of MALWARE (270MB) but NOT ODIN!!!!!!!!!!
Download ODIN (1MB) HERE
Original stock firmware (safe and tested) can be downloaded HERE
Connect your phone in "DOWNLOAD" mode (Power off and then press "Vol down + home + power" at the same time)
Open "ODIN" and select the downloaded firmware as "AP"
Press start (Progress will take about 10 minutes)
Phone will be fine again

Googled the error. Solution is to flash the firmware with PIT file. Only problem is that someone has to give you a working pit file.

I'm still stuck... I'm just looking to get back to a usable device. I really don't care if it's a stock or custom rom at this point. Any help is appreciated.
I tried flashing with the full firmware package I downloaded (4.4.2 G900A stock firmware) which included a *.pit file inside one of the tarballs. I used the PIT/re-partition option and everything succeeded except it still freezes at the Samsung boot logo.

Looking not taht good. I tried my best with no success May be at this point or in some days in case no one here is able to help you, you could think about checking ebay for "bootloader repair" should be about 40$
This is a temp root and will be removed every hard boot.
I am not responsible if you break your device!
You have been warned.
Knox is not tripped
Hello All, I Have found a temp root process for those who have the AT&T Tab 4 with the kernel build Thu Aug 13 17:01:34 KST 2015.
Download Tab 4(Temp root), you will have 3 files. Odin 3.07, boot(LP_fix).tar and Kingroot-4.1.apk.
Install KingRoot on your tablet run and click Start Root. After the first time the process of checked for root will take longer as su will still be installed.
You will now have KingUser installed in /system/app/
When uninstalling bloatware, do it in one go.
When you have to reboot, reboot into download mode or you will get the AT&T unauthorized screen.
Use Odin to Flash PDA with the boot(LP_fix).tar, this will wipe the su links so the kernel doesn't see it and will boot. You will reboot automatically back to the launcher and will be able to reboot without using Odin.
Need help furthering permanent root as this is beyond my skills.
Update 1/27/16 14:35
Deleting all knox related apps is safe so far, setting build.prop ro.build.selinux=0 and a soft reboot seems to put kernel in permissive mode. Download a soft reboot app from the play store for reboots.
Don't let you tablet die and you don't have to keep doing this process!
Thanks to CocaFoca for the boot(LP_fix).tar.
Thanks for the dev(s) of KingRoot.
Does it work
Anyone try this yet?

This works just no hard boots. No knox trips either. Still working on recovery methods maybe someone can help upload there build.prop.

Just search soft reboot in play store and it has red arrows in a circle motion. As long as you don't mess with build prop you will be fine.

If you know what your doing you can change build.prop, do you need permissive kernel? All it does is disables SElinux for stuff like xsposed which isn't supported yet. Its aimed more to someone who will help farther to permanent root. The build prop is really good for this device.

No custom recovery yet as I was told bootloader is locked, until someone confirms custom recovery works in am staying away as there's no Odin firmware and I need warranty. Yes Odin 3.09 will work but it will remove root really no need unless a hard reboot is needed your your tablet dies. Just keep with soft reboots. As for viper I would stay away soundalive is way better. Stock recovery will not work.
Better than viper4android? I highly doubt that. Don't think that is possible
First, just want to say thanks for sharing this info & zip. It brought my tab back from the dead after i rooted. (initially i was unaware it had a locked bootloader until after i rooted). I just have a cpl questions maybe someone in here can answer.
1. Has anyone tried using Flashify or Root Rashr to flash the boot_LP_fix.tar before powering off? I personally have never used either app so i dont know if either can flash .tar files. I know Mobile Odin would probably work, buy it doesn't support LP. 2. Has anyone installed busbox? 3. Do any of the "Hide Root" type apps function in such a way as to let the tab reboot? Those were just a few questions i had about this. Thanks for any info.

Hide root does not work has to do with the kernel checking for root or sumlinks, busy box installs and works but no idea on flashify.
Thanks. Appreciate the info. Im only looking for a way to safely power down bcuz about 2 or 3 times a week my tab doesnt get plugged I into a charged so it gets shut off. My girlfriends mother & son play with it & use it to stream movies. It would be great if there was a functional equivalent of Mobile Odin Pro so when i was done busing it i vould simply flash the tar. file so it would boot. Maybe ill do a little experimenting & see what happens. Thanks again
Can someone with a rooted SM-T337A do a system dump with these files included modem.bin, NON-HLOS.bin, recovery.img, a cache dump, and the PIT file??? Please
Thanks worked
I think I dun goofed :c. Was working fine, then I had to reboot, flashed the .tar, but I think I was a second late on catching it, because now it doesn't boot :c Hangs on ATT screen. HEEELP :C

Fastboot closes right up because ur are double clicking on it... U should open a command prompt by open file explorer where fastboot.exe and the factory image (stock rom from nvidia) is located on ur pc, press right mouse click and SHIFT at the same time. On the drop down menu choose: open command prompt here. And there u go, u have a command prompt that will recognise the fastboot and the name of the files.
Now put ur shield in fastboot mode, plug it to ur pc.
Now start the commands from a tutorial to go back to stock for the shield tablet.
And lastly... If u dont know how to go back to stock (aka use fastboot), u shouldn't try flashing roms or even use twrp... IMO.

You've made a number of basic mistakes that were completely avoidable. For your benefit, it's time to learn some lessons (the hard way in this case) before proceeding:
Wiping everything in TWRP was not a complete "accident". You deliberately (probably carelessly) ignored the message in TWRP "Wipe" section which tells you the default wipe is the only wipe you need most of the time. It says this for a reason. The default wipe (data, cache and Dalvik) is all you need for a "factory reset" in 99% of cases, and keeps the OS intact.
So you went into the "Advanced" wipe options. Again, it's called "Advanced" for a reason. This term implies that you shouldn't be messing with these options, unless you have some "advanced" knowledge, and know exactly what you are doing. You shouldn't be wiping anything, if you don't understand what it is, or what the consequences will be.
Another basic best practice: always make a TWRP "nandroid" backup before messing with anything. If you did that, you would have a backup of the stock ROM to easily revert to. It's the first thing I do after flashing TWRP. Now, if you truly wiped "everything" in TWRP, that would include internal storage and SD card, which would means your TWRP backups are also gone. But all the reason, to follow the advice I gave in the previous paragraph.

Neither do we. At least not without any detailed info. Don't just say "it didn't work", as that doesn't tell is anything. This is almost certainly pilot error, and easily fixable. Provided you give us some info. How far did you get flashing Lineage? Did it flash successfully, or not? If not, what were the error messages? If it flashed successfully, then exactly what happened next? Stuck rebooting on logo screen, or it booted but apps force closed?
Did you flash a gapps package right after flashing Lineage (which is required)?
What version number TWRP?

If you don't know how to use fastboot, how did you unlock the bootloader and flash TWRP?

If you search NVIDIA's Download Center, you will find the recovery image for this device, which includes instructions on how to install it.

You need a warning message telling you that wiping system . . . would wipe the system?
Makers of TWRP assume that anyone using TWRP has some basic knowledge and would take some care before wiping things, especially in the "Advanced" section. And that even if you had no OS, you know how to restore it.

Yeah, you should stop doing stuff like that. Shortcutting the process by letting other folks do the work for you, got you were you are.

Hover the mouse cursor over the window that contains fastboot.exe. Shift+ Right click. You should see a pulldown menus appear. You should see an open "Open command prompt here".
What about this doesn't work?
(Redpoint73;75492581You need a warning message telling you that wiping system . . . would wipe the system?)

Its not just me its happened too,i had to open up run go to directory and shell and rename something k mate
First I tried restoring a backup using TWRP and it didn't work. Then, I tried flashing Android P using TWRP twice to both slots and I booted the device and now see this "Your device is corrupt. It can’t be trusted and may not work properly." likethis
I ran "flash-all-partitions.bat" and "flash-all-partitions-fastboot.bat" files from the android P fastboot zip file from here https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-6/how-to/rom-stock-fastboot-roms-oneplus-6-t3796665 and android p starts and runs successfully but I still see the not trusted error message at start of the device. How can I get rid of it? I even tried to wipe the phone from within oos android P.
Nevermind. I searched more and found someone who said I have to run MSMD tool.
fixed it by using this thread

Found this is another thread, Hope it helps someone. It helped me.

Has anyone tried this? Hitting power twice allows me to boot when I see this message but I'm suck of seeing it. I want a solution that doesn't delete data.
Do you have twrp? try flashing another kernel, smurf or something, i remember it happened to me a year ago, and it got fixed after i flashed another kernel

I had already tried by clean flash. But the issue remained. Finally I found solution in other section, which I posted here.
