turning wifi automatically off - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have tried a few auto turn off apps on my transformer while screen is off but WIFI still stays on. These Apps work well on My Samsung galaxy.
Another thing I noticed is that everytime I set the WIFI disconnect policy to turn off wifi when screen is off. The setting goes back to "never". Not sure how it gets reset, and maybe thats why these apps do not work.
Any ideas?

revolver parts wit revolver rom, the revolver parts app let you turn of wifi automatic

I am on stock rom for now, until I read thru all of the forum and get comfortable with switching rom. I am rooted atleast and have CWM installed.
So is there any other app?

Auto airplane mode from the market. It turned off for me.

Try with Tasker

will try auto airplane mode but I need something that turns off wifi when screen goes off.
Also, afraid to buy tasker before I know it works.

Auto Airplane Mode will turn WiFi off when screen shut off.
I use it, work great. The one I use for some reason is not in the market any more
but there are others.

TRIED auto airplane and did not work.
I think the issue is that something always changes the setting to never turn wifi off . Instead of what I keep on setting it to disable wifi when screen is off.
Is there a app that is changing the wifi policy settings>?

green power app fixed my problem. found this out in another thread.

I'm using tasker with a profile to turn airplane mode on 5 minutes after display goes down. It doesn't sleep if there are certain apps which require internet connection (tunein radio for example) and turns off airplane mode for 1 minute every 30 minutes.
I'd never used tasker before, i own an Android phone too, but i found it simply amazing!

Seems like you have an app that wants to keep wifi on. If I were you, I'd try to get to the bottom of this and figure out which app is causing this issue to occur. In fact, the culprit sounds fishy.

Wifi not turning off after screen is off

My rule for wifi is to turn off when screen if off. I notice that my mail is still coming thru when the screen is off.
I'm getting a lot of battery drain. Anyone know what I can do to solve this issue?
What do you guys use for the rule of wifi to reduce battery?
what rom/kernel are you using (you should always mention thse when asking a question like this fyi). revolver just fixed this problem yesterday, try updting your rom/kernel....
I'm using the latest stock rom..I think 3.2?
How do you update the stock rom or solve this issue?
Root and flash a custom rom. Revolver 3.2.1 fixed this issue i think...
Sent from my TBolt using my f***king thumbs...
I am on stock 3.2 and no problems. Have you checked the battery info. That is the best time to check how much time the TF has been on and how much time wifi has been on.
It's true that wifi doesn't disconnect as soon as screen goes off. It maybe takes some minutes for wifi to actually go off. Also, if I am using any app that uses wifi (like radio streaming), wifi won't turn off.
Anywy, most of the time wifi will go out just a couple of minutes after screen goes off. Check settings, running apps and battery stats.
Regards.
The stock rom is set to time out 10 minutes after the screen is turned off I believe. The revolver rom now has an option in revolver parts to set how long till the wifi is disabled.
There are several apps that keep wireless and/or GPS alive after screen is off. This is due to the way the OS handles apps after you stop using them. Try turning off TF then restart and without running any apps, let is sleep. Then check to see if wireless went off.
same issue
Hey, I'm having a similar issue.
I'm on a B70 running revolver 3.11 and a stock kernel and I've noticed my wifi intermittently toggles the disconnect policy to "never" instead of "when screen is turned off".
I thought it was part of the custom wifi timeout from revolver parts but according to battery usage in settings (and massive battery drain) the wifi isn't actually being switched off when the device isn't in use (tablet idle rarely shows top of the list).
I've tried flashing new roms and kernels but haven't been able to work out the specific cause of the problem or how to fix it. I would have posted in the revolver discussion to find out how the wifi timeout is managed as this might have given a clue but alas I am a noob

Honeycomb is not good at keeping wifi off with the screen when other apps request a connection
Grab "Auto Airplane Mode - by Don" from the market free and it does exactly that, screen off = radios off, screen on = radios on
Well my TF wifi off with screen off work except it work too good.
It work but after it goes to deep sleep it does not want to turn back on ( would need a reboot of TF for it to work again) so I set Wifi sleep policy to never and use Auto Airplane Mode.
Prime 2.1.1 w/ Prime OC kernel

Downloaded this app and it works a treat. I'm a bit anal so I'll keep trying to investigate why the system isn't doing what it should but its nice to have something to save the battery in the meantime.

[Q] [REQUEST] Advice on permanently turning off WiFi

Hi guys, i noticed an irritating problem with my One S after a few days of usage. My WiFi turns on at random, and remains on when my phone is in sleep mode. This occurs when I have 3G on. I have turned off using WiFi in sleep mode.
Anything else I can do? I feel like this takes a toll on my battery life.
I wouldn't worry too much about wifi if you just got the phone.
While its connected it shouldn't use up the battery. Afaik
It's the searching that uses battery.
yeah my wifi is on 24/7 i dont experience any drain through it..
you could put a toggle widget on one of your screens to turn it on / off.
it shouldnt be switching itself on it you manually turned it off
But it does exactly that! It turns itself on even after I have manually toggled it off. irritating as it searches for open networks even if I have data on. How do I resolve this hmmm
Maybe Tasker would help?

[Q] What app/trick do you use to keep wifi...

... on when your phone is in sleep or screen is off?
I use Tasker. If my WiFi goes off, a task is started that uses Secure Settings to turn Wifi off, and 5 seks later on again.
Works good.

Does this help your device complete the active downloads? Also, any battery drain due to tasker?
There's an app called WiFi Keep Alive in the Market which works good, can't remember if it requires root or not though.

Wifi will sometimes connect only when I turn the screen on

Hi, everyone.
I've noticed that, sometimes, my phone will only connect to a Wifi network after I turn the screen on, regardless of how long I've been inside the range of a particular acces point. For example, when I get home and I go to check my phone after I've been in there for a long time, I see the Wifi connecting right after turning the screen on. This isn't normal, is it? How can I fix this? I have it set to always active if that matters.
Thanks.
Most likely the phone is in deep sleep and doesn't scan for the WiFi network until you wake it. The alternative would be the phone waking itself to check, possibly "WiFi Always Scanning" would accomplish that.

Thank you, bblzd.
How long does it usually take for the phone to go into deep sleep? beacuse this has happened for example if I get out of the office for a while (a few minutes) and then go back in. I'll try the always scanning suggestion, but would it have a considerable impact in battery usage?

It should enter deep sleep as soon as the screen turns off, unless there is something using the CPU then it will stay awake or wake itself as needed.
Always scanning does use a significant amount of battery compared to if you were disabling the WiFi. However if you leave your WiFi on all the time anyways it shouldn't make any difference.

Alright, I don't usually turn wifi off, so I'll try that.
Thanks again.
Didn't work, unfortunately.
Anyone else? I seem to be the only one experiencing this, can't find a single post about this online.
Any suggestions? I've tried rebooting into safe mode, turning data off, turning airplane mode on and enabling wifi, wiping cache partition, nothing helps. Still thee same behaviour.

Wifi shuts down during sleep (it is set not to)

The wifi icon disappears after few minutes of screen being off after locking. I did set wifi to be on during sleep. Does anyone else have that issue ? I have a SIP client installed on my phone and need wifi all the time so that is a pain.
Mine does the same thing. I think it might be because I have the *intelligent power saving* checked in "power management" in settings. I think the phone disables data every so often to preserve the battery. Haven't tested my theory by un-checking, but I remember this happening on my Blu studio energy.
I have intelligent power disabled.
I think I am getting this on my phone. Sometimes on wakeup it forgets it is connected to Wifi and apps and chrome won't update. I usually just turn airplane mode on/off to fix it. Still, it is annoying. Doesn't seem to happen with LTE, at least.
