[Q] [REQUEST] Advice on permanently turning off WiFi - HTC One S

Hi guys, i noticed an irritating problem with my One S after a few days of usage. My WiFi turns on at random, and remains on when my phone is in sleep mode. This occurs when I have 3G on. I have turned off using WiFi in sleep mode.
Anything else I can do? I feel like this takes a toll on my battery life.

I wouldn't worry too much about wifi if you just got the phone.
While its connected it shouldn't use up the battery. Afaik
It's the searching that uses battery.

yeah my wifi is on 24/7 i dont experience any drain through it..
you could put a toggle widget on one of your screens to turn it on / off.
it shouldnt be switching itself on it you manually turned it off

But it does exactly that! It turns itself on even after I have manually toggled it off. irritating as it searches for open networks even if I have data on. How do I resolve this hmmm

Maybe Tasker would help?

WiFi keeps turning off...

Hi all,
I just got a Droid 2 Global today and I notice if you leave it alone for a while (which is hard to do with a new phone) the WiFi will turn itself off. The first thing I do with new Android phones is turn the WiFi Sleep Policy to "Never". And that is what I did today, but it still appears to be sleeping.
When I wake the phone I notice that the WiFi is off (Both up in the notification bar and the widget is dark) and the 3G is off as well. The only that is showing is bars. In about 5 seconds the WiFi will turn back on and connect.
Now this only happens if I don't play with the phone for a while. Turning the screen off and back on the WiFi will be on like normal.
As this annoys me that it is doing it, it is the 3G is off at this time as well. Which means the phone isn't getting any data during the period that it is off. Which isn't good since I rely on Google Voice for all of my texting, which won't come in unless there is a internet connection.
Any help on this will be great,
Thanks
I did find out what was going wrong last night. In Settings>Battery Manager>Battery Mode it was set to Nighttime saver. That would have been bad because I work 3rd shift and I'm up and using this mainly at night.

[Q] Wifi Sleep Policy of Off Screen on SUperAOSP ROM

I have trouble downloading large files using this ROM since when my screen turns off, WIFI is also disabled. How can I change it. I've been looking in the settings but to no avail.
Edit: Found it...you have to click menu when in the WIFI Settings, then choose advanced.
Edit2: Wifi is disabled when screen is turn off even if the Wifi sleep policy is changed to Never.
Any ideas?
then that is some kind of bug. because setting wifi sleep policy to never should behave as such.
related note, setting wifi sleep to never greatly increases batteyr life, as said thru the forums, because back on 3g the data kills your battery much faster. so allowing wifi to stay on makes a huge improvement on battery.
for example if you leave wifi on overnight, you might lose 5% total. but if it switches back to 3g overnight, you might lose 20%.
is this bug confirmed?
me too have same problem with SuperAosp (i will test with other rom....)

Wifi will sometimes connect only when I turn the screen on

Hi, everyone.
I've noticed that, sometimes, my phone will only connect to a Wifi network after I turn the screen on, regardless of how long I've been inside the range of a particular acces point. For example, when I get home and I go to check my phone after I've been in there for a long time, I see the Wifi connecting right after turning the screen on. This isn't normal, is it? How can I fix this? I have it set to always active if that matters.
Thanks.
Most likely the phone is in deep sleep and doesn't scan for the WiFi network until you wake it. The alternative would be the phone waking itself to check, possibly "WiFi Always Scanning" would accomplish that.

Thank you, bblzd.
How long does it usually take for the phone to go into deep sleep? beacuse this has happened for example if I get out of the office for a while (a few minutes) and then go back in. I'll try the always scanning suggestion, but would it have a considerable impact in battery usage?

It should enter deep sleep as soon as the screen turns off, unless there is something using the CPU then it will stay awake or wake itself as needed.
Always scanning does use a significant amount of battery compared to if you were disabling the WiFi. However if you leave your WiFi on all the time anyways it shouldn't make any difference.

Alright, I don't usually turn wifi off, so I'll try that.
Thanks again.
Didn't work, unfortunately.
Anyone else? I seem to be the only one experiencing this, can't find a single post about this online.
Any suggestions? I've tried rebooting into safe mode, turning data off, turning airplane mode on and enabling wifi, wiping cache partition, nothing helps. Still thee same behaviour.

Wifi shuts down during sleep (it is set not to)

The wifi icon disappears after few minutes of screen being off after locking. I did set wifi to be on during sleep. Does anyone else have that issue ? I have a SIP client installed on my phone and need wifi all the time so that is a pain.
Mine does the same thing. I think it might be because I have the *intelligent power saving* checked in "power management" in settings. I think the phone disables data every so often to preserve the battery. Haven't tested my theory by un-checking, but I remember this happening on my Blu studio energy.
I have intelligent power disabled.
I think I am getting this on my phone. Sometimes on wakeup it forgets it is connected to Wifi and apps and chrome won't update. I usually just turn airplane mode on/off to fix it. Still, it is annoying. Doesn't seem to happen with LTE, at least.

WiFi stays on even though it's switched off?

I've unchecked the Google services thing in the WiFi Settings, however, from time to time, it seems to turn itself back on. But even when it's shown as off, the WiFi stays on in the battery charts.
Anyone else have the same problem/have a solution?
I'm using a oneplus two and even I'm experiencing the issue.. I think it's a problem with 5.1.1
