Hi all
I just bought an i9020 today and when I plugged in the USB the phone is charging but the window for mounting storage did not pop up. It acted as if i simply plugged in a wall charger. I'm sure it's not the cable or the computer's hardware problem because I have three computers and three cables and I've tried different combinations and it still did not work. The old nexus one that I had, however, successfully recognized the USB cable and was able to mount and get into debugging mode etc.
Any ideas? If the phone is charging then it would reject the possibility of a damaged USB port correct?
I can't even fiddle with the drivers at this point because the phone doesn't even show up in device manager. i have tried unplugging the battery as another thread suggested but the results are still the same.
And also another problem is that when I power off the phone will freeze when it's about to shut down. This happens when the cable is plugged and once I unplug the phone will shut down. The same thing happens in bootloader.
P.S Even in bootloader fastboot was unable to recognize the device.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Ryan
Any ideas?
If it is a hardware issue I'll just send it back for a new one
This happened to me recently out of the blue. I flash a lot of ROMs so I thought maybe something on my device got messed up. I never did find a definitive answer as to why it happened, though. I also couldn't mount USB through CWM recovery.
But what fixed it was, I shut down the device, pulled the battery, waited 10 seconds, put battery back in, booted up, and I had USB connectivity again. I haven't lost connectivity since.
Since the battery pull didn't work for you, I would try and exchange the device for a new one.

Is this a hardware issue then? This worked for me but I'm not sure if it's a permanent solution. Should I still go get a new one?
if it's a hardware failure which component should be changed

i've never torn my nexus apart
but I imagine that it could be swapped out. you'd probably need to know your way around a board with a solder gun lol. I would try to google that or atleast the tear down of the nexus to see what your in for and if its changeable.

Hi there,
My Nexus S (i9023) phone recently fell into a water bucket and I immediately pulled it out.
Not much damage was done to it except of one thing: after I put it in a bag of rice like stated on the internet for overnight, and then plugged it in again to the charger, it seems like something was different.
When I plug the phone to the AC power - phone DOES charge, but nothing else happens.
It doesn't turn on screen and informs "charging", and doesn't have the "charge when phone is off" option anymore. Instead it would just turn the phone on.
Also, when connecting the phone to the computer nothing happens, it's just charging the phone! can't mount USB anymore
I took the phone to a lab which handles these cases. They replaced the USB port and cleaned all the corrosion. They said it's fixed now, and indeed the USB port is new.
But then after coming back home it's still the same.
I'm sick of being dependant on other people and would like to fix it myself.
Any clue which part of my phone was fried? Where can I get it?
Thanks!
-zeek
Are u rooted?
Try a different ROM. Maybe one ur ur backups.
If it still does connect then it has to be the ROM assuming ur computer has the proper drivers still.
Good luck
Vs Nexus S 4G
Thanks!
Thank you!!!
Problem solved after I loaded one of my backups.
Any explanation to that? even when the phone was turned off it couldn't charge it in off mode and now it can.
How come it's a software issue?
Thanks!
I can only guess that ur ROMs kernel had a "fast charge" option. If so this doesn't allow computer connection. How it got switched to that option... who knows .... maybe the sudden power surge.
If not that, then ... strange things happen when a phone get wet.. the sudden power surge could have changed the power output causing CPU adjustments... who knows.
I'm just happy it worked for u.
I'd recalibrate ur battery asap.
Good luck
Vs Nexus S 4G
Hi, the same thing happened to me, only it wasn't a bucket, it was a pool, and changing the ROM didn't work (I've flashed at least three different ROMs since then, kind of hard when the USB port doesn't work but eh, what can you do).
Also, it's on a Gio, not a Nexus S, but the principle should still be the same, yes?
Hey guys, I have a softbricked Atrix2, I tried making a factory cable the other night, wired it correctly as far as I know, it turned on straight away without a battery into fastboot, but wouldn't recognize that a usb cable was plugged in (So power, but no data). And when I plugged in a normal usb cable with the battery in the phone still wouldn't recognize that a usb cable was plugged in. I am currently charging my battery right now, I wasn't having this problem before and am starting to think this phone is cursed by the devil himself . I'll be really disappointed if I charge this battery up and another problem arises, been waiting weeks for this charger. The phone was recognizing usb data cables without issue, tho of course I couldn't do anything because of the low battery, and suddenly it just stopped. Any ideas? Just don't want to spend all day trying to work this out because I've had a softbricked phone for weeks and only got to use it for all of about an hour .
More info: When I plug a normal USB in without a battery the white LED lights up and stays lit. Everything is pointing to power but no data... What would cause that and is there a fix
More more info: Battery OK
OK to program
Connect USB
Data Cable
Shows in device manager as "Unknown device", trying to force install of the "Mot single ADB interface" drivers just gives the error "The device cannot start (Code10), wont show up in ADB or RSD, and phone WILL NOT change status to USB plugged in. Time to think up a legit reason why my phone would say "Flash failure" and get a replacement?
A little more info maybe
What were you on before soft brick stock 2.3.6,2.3.5 or ICS???
How exactly did you soft brick it??
Have you tried getting the phone to start in the normal mode?(by pressing power+vol up+vol down and choosing boot normally???)

Went from 2.3.6 to stock 2.3.5 to OTA 2.3.6 to OTA leak to SCV7, phone kept crashing, tried to fxz back to 2.3.5 stock, said completely successfully but just bootlooped so I went to try again but the battery was low, so that's how I softbricked. And me being the impatient person I am I tried to make a moto factory cable with 2 non standard cables (Micro usb end from a mini to micro converter and the other end from something else), I'm sure I wired it correctly but I guess not, it booted into fastboot without a battery, but said connect usb cable, so I tried to plug in a normal usb cable (tried different ones) and it said the same thing. I shorted something out, the damage might just be on the micro usb PCB connector or it might be something worse. Yes I tried normal mode, no go, recovery works. So basically, my phone is now hardbricked because I'm impatient and screwed something up along the way. Now I have a 12 month warranty on the phone, can someone help me come up with a believable story that'll get me a new phone? Keeping in mind the phone boots into fastboot with (flash failure)
Trust me. The folks on the line at AT&T DON'T CARE.
Just BS your way through it. IE: I went to bed, plugged my phone in, woke up and the battery was really hot. Then the phone shut off and won't boot. Just play dumb.
All else fails. Hook that motherboard up to a car battery.

I bought it from a 3rd party seller (Mobicity.com.au). I think I might just go with "The phone kept crashing every 4-5 minutes, I tried to do the system update to 2.3.6 and the phone crashed halfway through, tried to turn it on again and it showed the Moto logo and something about a fastboot". Wish me luck guys .
Okay shipped it off, wish me luck guys, I'll keep you updated.
"Technicians needed to know which ROM used to update your handset?"
Not liking my chances with this at all. I got my dad to give them a call and act dumb, should be convincing because he honestly doesn't know what he's talking about. The phone says flash failed and he's denying ever flashing anything, I don't think a failed OTA update would give that error message so I don't think they're going to replace it..... .
EDIT: Dad called the technician and the tech said he's gonna fix it and that the motherboard was fried, looking good, phew!.
Update:
Your phone has been deemed unrepairable and as a result will be replaced by your place of purchase. Please contact your place of purchase and quote xxxxxxxx to arrange a replacement handset to be dispatched to you.

Wooo .
This is somewhat of an emergency. Recently, the HOX I've been working with began shutting off randomly and now it won't charge or turn on. There is no LED light even indicating that it is charging. Currently, it's running ViperXL and has S-Off. I'm hoping that there is a (simple) solution to this problem. Honestly, for lack of better words I'm pooping bricks right now over this issue.
Your battery may have discharged all the way. You can try plugging it in to a wall charger overnight to see if this might correct the problem.

I suppose anything is better than nothing. But as for the random shutdowns? I don't have an HTC charger so I feel as though the chargers I have may have bricked it or messed up the power receptacle. I have more than 1 charger and none of them work so far. I'll try the overnight charge and see if it works.
Non-standard chargers have bricked some people. This phone has some sort of power management bug that causes the phone to become unresponsive when certain things get corrupted. Plug your phone into a PC and see what comes up in Device Manager. If you see QHUSB_DLOAD, I'm afraid you're bricked.

I meant Windows Device Manager, and you don't need HTC drivers. Just plug it in.

What he said. Also recommend to try charging overnight on a wall charger (not USB connected to a computer) and see if that helps.
Non HTC chargers typically won't be an issue. Although, if not using the OEM charger, there is always a small possibility that it may supplying voltage/current that doesn't quite meet the proper specs and can damage the device. Even more so, if you are using a cheap off-brand charger.

As for Device Manager, the phone doesn't get recognized so it's a no to QHUSB. Windows won't even pick up the phone. It attempts to install drivers for "Unidentified Device" and fails as it is. (A quick note, it successfully installs as "HID-compliant device" but requires a reboot)

And as for the charger, the main one used was a Samsung charger (old school, one piece). So if anything, I think it may have not been supplied enough voltage.
Also as a general note, sometimes when it's plugged in (to the wall) the bottom LEDs will flash for about 20 seconds and stop all of the sudden.

This is the thread you're referring to right? The only thing that stops me up is hex editing the IMEI into the null p4 backup. I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that I need Eclipse for that. As well, a Linux system. Do you think that there may be a chance for this to work? I'd much rather not have to send the phone out for repair. Possibly unlimited.io would have an idea about this? I'm trying to not spend money if possible but if the need be I will fork over some greenbacks to repair this phone. Thanks.
You'll know by step 3 if it will work. Just make a Linux usb stick. Any hex editor will work fine. There's a guide to making an Ubuntu usb stick in q&a if you need help.

Hi all experts.
I have one inquiry about my Samsung galaxy S II lte (SGH-1727) Issue.
at the beginning I read too much here but I couldn't find any answer for my phone problem.
the problem happened yesterday, when I was using my phone as usual then suddenly restarted, this issue happen many times before and its ok for me, it tried to restart but suddenly stopped( black screen), I removed the battery then I tried to restart it again, I felt the vibrating start, then stopped, without any respond at all till now, I tried many times to remove the battery and restart it but without any respond, I connected it by using the usb cable, but nothing, ( no vibration, no battery charging) the only thing is my computer can`t recognize the hardware.
I tried to do hard reset or anything, but without any respond.
Kindly, I want to know weather if this phone is totally spoiled or there is something I can do for it to make it usable again, I have a good knowledge about WM5,6,6.1,6.5. but a little bit about android.
thanks
What operating system are you on? Rooted? Do have have a nandroid backup?

Did u read about the sticky power button from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176593.
if you tried resetting then where you able to get it in to recovery mode
could be bad battery and/or battery contacts.

I have been read the button problems for sure, but I think it is not related to the button, there is no respond at all, even not charging, usually if I use the charger, it should start charging, correct me if I`m wrong.
the battery was full and working fine, I tried to clean the connectors too, nothing changed.

could be a bad cable, bad battery, bad phone port, or hw failure.
id keep trying to revive it by either changing cable/charger and/or battery and keeping it plugged in for a long time, if all else fails then it probably a bad mobo or memory, happened to my sons s2 where his was getting hot while recharging and his phone died, no response of any kind, under warranty i think they replaced his mobo

if battery is removed and phone is plugged in it should vibrate, mine does, seems as if yours does not have any life so mobo would be my first guess.

Trullty Dead?
so i have spent lots of time looking for this issue with my Hercules. i had beeb trying some roms and i think i bricked it, bad,
so odin can see it (gets a yellow) but;
i can not power on the device, get it into recovery OR download mode,
my pc cant get to the information on the phone (i have tried with SD in/ out SIM in /out)
the pc makes the noise when i cycle thru power, but the screen shows nothing,
i have installed Kies but it dosent see the device,
there hasnt been a good post that comfirms that my phone is now a paper weight,
but there has to be a way other than spending $40 to have it repaired (not including shipping)
USB JIG looks interesting but i cant see how that will help in this case...
to be honest this is my first time at ROMing around with a Galaxy,
previously i had an Gooapple 3G and was able to ROM around quite abit no issues with a bad brick like this i was able to save it before
but if anyone has any ideas or can confirm its a hardbrick let me know i only have a few hours between jobs to fix it and cant at night gf takes laptop to night shifts.
thanks for your time reading over if you have questions about anything please ask, i payed for the phone outright to put on Rogers so there is no warrenty anymore and Rogers wont cover repair.

Oh thanks, I just noticed your comment because I thought there is no chance to get my phone alive again, I think I should try this, I have one question regarding the usb jig, is there a specific JIG for every samsung galaxy model? or it is all the same for the micro USB Samsung galaxy phones? and in this case, what is the indication that will make the device run again, is there a special software to install? or after plug this JIG I can be in the bootloader? and is there any possibility to get some of my data or contacts again? thanks for your respond regarding my phone issue.
Jigs don't with on this device. Don't waste your time.
You need to try to odin the stock firmware.

This is incorrect. Jigs do in fact work. However most of the time you will be able to enter download mode without one.
I have had my skyrocket completely unresponsive to any input/button combinations. I tried my homemade jig and was able to recover via Odin. Without the jig my skyrocket would not have been repaired.

Basically I had zero response from the phone. Was playing around with the jig and buttons, put the phone down with the jig in it. Looked back 5 mins later and it was in download mode.
I do think there is something different with my device though. Ever since I got it back from JTAG it has never wanted to reboot. Selecting reboot just shuts the phone down. Every once in awhile it reboots from recovery ok, but that is about 1 in every 10 attempts. When it doesn't reboot I need to long-press the power for about 30s - 1m to get it to fire back up. I am thinking it is some type of hardware issue but not too concerned because at this point it is still 'working'.

I believe I have a hard brick, but not sure about diagnosis or options. I put my phone on the charger last night, and it was dead this morning. I have been able to get it to boot twice only for it to shut off immediately due to lack of charge. I have plugged the phone into 3 different USB chargers and none of them appear to be charging my phone, however they all work on my Nexus 7. There is no LED on to indicate it is charging as it normally would. I cannot get into recovery or download mode. Any suggestions?
A little background about my specific situation:
I have had my S3 since launch, and have had no issues with it. I have had it rooted since the bootloader was overcome, and have run custom ROMS ever since. Most recently, I have been running CM 11 with the latest nightly being from early Feb. (not sure which date). I have CWM installed, and up til this point, my phone was working fine. I did get occasional random reboots since the latest nightly that I flashed, but the phone remained completely functional.
EDIT: It is not a brick problem, it is a charging issue. I can charge my phone in the car, but not through a wall charger or connected to a pc. When plugging into a pc, it does not register anything at all.

It's possible that your usb port is bad, but try to clean the inner contacts of the port first. You could try to plug into your PC instead of wall charger see if it works. In anycase if it worked with PC, but not wall charger or both, you need to replace the usb board which can be purchase for cheap on Ebay.

I have plugged into my PC as well, and it does not work. It does occasionally vibrate though...

Do you have an external battery charger or a spare charged battery? Give it a try and see what happens.

Unfortunately, I do not.

Do you know of someone who has an S3? Perhaps try swapping batteries with a charged one from a friend/associate, or test with a spare from a verizon store. At least then you can rule out a charging/USB charge port/battery issue vs something else

I don't know anyone. I am going to try and seek help at the verizon store, but they seem so useless whenever I go, and I think they will be more motivated to sell me a new phone.
Well I got my phone to work. I pulled the battery off and just cleaned out some of the dust that had collected. I assume it was just not getting a good connection. Thanks for the suggestions though

Turns out, it only worked on my car charger. The problem persists outside of my car. I cannot charge either through a wall outlet or on a USB cord connected to a PC. I have tried 2 instances of each all with their own cables. My car charger works fine though.
Anyone experience a similar problem? I am going to try and wipe and flash a new ROM, hoping that will fix it.
