My phone isn't recognizing a USB cable is plugged into the computer in fastboot - Motorola Atrix 2

Hey guys, I have a softbricked Atrix2, I tried making a factory cable the other night, wired it correctly as far as I know, it turned on straight away without a battery into fastboot, but wouldn't recognize that a usb cable was plugged in (So power, but no data). And when I plugged in a normal usb cable with the battery in the phone still wouldn't recognize that a usb cable was plugged in. I am currently charging my battery right now, I wasn't having this problem before and am starting to think this phone is cursed by the devil himself . I'll be really disappointed if I charge this battery up and another problem arises, been waiting weeks for this charger. The phone was recognizing usb data cables without issue, tho of course I couldn't do anything because of the low battery, and suddenly it just stopped. Any ideas? Just don't want to spend all day trying to work this out because I've had a softbricked phone for weeks and only got to use it for all of about an hour .
More info: When I plug a normal USB in without a battery the white LED lights up and stays lit. Everything is pointing to power but no data... What would cause that and is there a fix
More more info: Battery OK
OK to program
Connect USB
Data Cable
Shows in device manager as "Unknown device", trying to force install of the "Mot single ADB interface" drivers just gives the error "The device cannot start (Code10), wont show up in ADB or RSD, and phone WILL NOT change status to USB plugged in. Time to think up a legit reason why my phone would say "Flash failure" and get a replacement?

A little more info maybe
What were you on before soft brick stock 2.3.6,2.3.5 or ICS???
How exactly did you soft brick it??
Have you tried getting the phone to start in the normal mode?(by pressing power+vol up+vol down and choosing boot normally???)

Went from 2.3.6 to stock 2.3.5 to OTA 2.3.6 to OTA leak to SCV7, phone kept crashing, tried to fxz back to 2.3.5 stock, said completely successfully but just bootlooped so I went to try again but the battery was low, so that's how I softbricked. And me being the impatient person I am I tried to make a moto factory cable with 2 non standard cables (Micro usb end from a mini to micro converter and the other end from something else), I'm sure I wired it correctly but I guess not, it booted into fastboot without a battery, but said connect usb cable, so I tried to plug in a normal usb cable (tried different ones) and it said the same thing. I shorted something out, the damage might just be on the micro usb PCB connector or it might be something worse. Yes I tried normal mode, no go, recovery works. So basically, my phone is now hardbricked because I'm impatient and screwed something up along the way. Now I have a 12 month warranty on the phone, can someone help me come up with a believable story that'll get me a new phone? Keeping in mind the phone boots into fastboot with (flash failure)

Trust me. The folks on the line at AT&T DON'T CARE.
Just BS your way through it. IE: I went to bed, plugged my phone in, woke up and the battery was really hot. Then the phone shut off and won't boot. Just play dumb.
All else fails. Hook that motherboard up to a car battery.

I bought it from a 3rd party seller (Mobicity.com.au). I think I might just go with "The phone kept crashing every 4-5 minutes, I tried to do the system update to 2.3.6 and the phone crashed halfway through, tried to turn it on again and it showed the Moto logo and something about a fastboot". Wish me luck guys .

Okay shipped it off, wish me luck guys, I'll keep you updated.

"Technicians needed to know which ROM used to update your handset?"
Not liking my chances with this at all. I got my dad to give them a call and act dumb, should be convincing because he honestly doesn't know what he's talking about. The phone says flash failed and he's denying ever flashing anything, I don't think a failed OTA update would give that error message so I don't think they're going to replace it..... .
EDIT: Dad called the technician and the tech said he's gonna fix it and that the motherboard was fried, looking good, phew!.

Update:
Your phone has been deemed unrepairable and as a result will be replaced by your place of purchase. Please contact your place of purchase and quote xxxxxxxx to arrange a replacement handset to be dispatched to you.

If even ODIN mode is not working you have a hardware failure.
Ok not sure wtf happened but will give yall the run down.
BTW thanks for the reply Entropy512
OK could no longer charge or connect to comp so no going stock for me so what was i to do my phone was fubar.
Ok after talking with all the devs and tech support and general folks in the irc that were available I deleted the system folder thru file expert. If cant boot they cant tell that i had rooted and put a rom on there right.
So jump in truck and for grins plug it in to charger and bam get the samsung logo. But i continue to ATT just in case a fluke. Well of course im bricked at this point. They try charge it, put new batt in (not sure if they left it in). Still wont boot (of course) I go thru the dance and of course they cant get it to work. So I have to go thru warranty. They sending me another phone and they give mine to send back once i get the other.
So get back in truck throw my external sd back in and throw on charger for grins again. Bam I get charge screen. I leave there for good hour. Get my baby home run to comp throw it recognized crank up Odin, go stock, and am in process of flashing it back to the way it should be.
Got replacement phone and sent the other one back it never was right always thought it was connected to comp after it finally connected again. And never another word from att.
Not to revive an old thread, but what happened that got it to work in the truck again? I am helping a friend with your exact same issue, and another thread led me here. His port feels like broken solder connections, and the problem got worse and worse, till now it's pretty useless. He's already got his replacement device, but we're kinda scrambling what to do with the old one before sending it back.
He is bone stock rom, stock recovery, etc so the ONLY problem is that pesky Super User Icon lol. Think he'll be alright?
Not sure what got it to work tbh. It just started working. Of course all it would do is charge cuz i had deleted system folder. But it would not boot so of course att rep couldnt get it to boot so said i would have to wait on replacement phone. So just limped it along till it showed up. Sorry that doesnt help u any but. Only thing i can suggest is to delete system folder or brick it to point it stuck at samsung logo. If bricked cant see super user. Thats how sent mine back. Sorry if not much help.
Same. I have a captivate and my Micro USB won't charge.

[Q] Hard Brick

Question, was in process of using ODIN when USB became discoed. Reconnected tried the process over but unresponsive. Decided to start over, pulled battery and now the phone won't power on. Anyone else experience anything similar or am I hard bricked to anyone's knowledge?

How much charge did the battery have when you started this process?
90% or so. Been charging it on the wall charger for the last 2 hrs but it's still not turning on.
Even though your screen Wont turn on sometimes Odin will still recognize it. Try this: turn Odin on pull battery from phone hold down volume buttons plug USB in put battery back in. see if Odin sees the phone. You may need to try several times.

It was just another example of my noobness. I didn't bother to try download mode. I forgot + and - with usb, so phone came on right into download. Only thing was Odin would not recognize phone. Hiemdall would but I couldn't seem to get that working. Then I moved the USB cable to different port on PC and ta da! Odin recognized the phone and the rest is history. Finally rocking the latest Valhalla.
Thanks again everyone.

That's great. These phones are very hard to brick!
OK, so I don't have to start a new thread and waste space (on the internet?), I wanted to try and piggy-back off of this one; feel free to move it.
Basically, I thought it would be OK to flash a Vibrant ROM over my girlfriend's GS4G. That was a stupid, stupid idea. I'm thinking hard brick, but cannot be sure. I've tried all sorts of button press/hold combinations, batter in/battery out, usb in/usb out and I get ZERO response.
Suggestions, or do I need to find a replacement phone and girlfriend? She works in Social Media and kind of uses her phone ALWAYS!
Well, hopefully worst case scenario you have to replace her phone. Make sure to plug the phone up to wall charger and let sit for an hour to make sure it has juice. Next, take battery out place it back in. Hold the volume up and down buttons together then plug in USB from PC to phone. This should get you into download mode. If you can get this far then there should be hope for fixing the phone.

OK, I think it was shot. We ended up going to T-Mobile, told them we did a software update via USB and the gal said, "yeah, you may have gotten a corrupt file. That'll happen." Then we got charged $20 for processing and she'll have a brand new phone by next week.
Thanks anyway.
i guess 20 isnt too bad. never flash a rom that is made specifically for your phone. dam, if you did this next week, you could have paid a little (and by a little i mean like 150. lol) and upgraded to a sgs2.

[Q] Need some help

Hey guys. So to "cheer me up" my buddy gave me his G2x because his service was discontinued. In attempt to use it i tried to turn it on. wouldnt turn on. So i figured id charge it. When i plug it in, the LG sign comes up, but then disappears after 2 seconds of being up. I figured, oh **** the phone is bootlooping. It bootloops so fast that i cant even turn on the phone in recovery. Im thinking the phone might be bricked, since its "dead" and is bootlooping. Any suggestions? I dont want to throw away a perfectly good phone.
When was the last time the phone was charged?... you might need to charge it a little longer... then try to turn it on... battery was probably drained completely

If you only gave a slight tap on the power button, that will happen. Try pressing power button for 3-5 secs.

when the phone charges, it boot loops while it charges. So i dont even think its charging. I charged it over night, and it still doesnt have power unless plugged in. I feel as if the phone is bricked. But i highly doubt its rooted in the first place. Suggestions?
Sounds like maybe the mini-usb connector may be damaged and its not actually charging the phone could explain why its in and out of power and screen. Try maybe holding it still and pressing the power button for about 3 sec. Other than that id try plugging it in on the pc and see if that makes a difference.
welp. ill try that. maybe itll work. See all i need to do is boot into recovery. and im straight.
i just did what you said, same thing.
Do you think im experiencing the sleep of death?
Did you try removing the battery and putting it back (after few seconds) before attempting to switch on?
This is considerably worse than sleep of death. What's happening is that the phone, for whatever reason, isn't storing the electricity. If the problem happens even with with battery completely out of the phone, the problem is probably in the usb port. You might have to take the phone apart and replace it.

New battery if it isn't holding a. Charge... A voltage meter or switching it out can tell you.

Well, I honestly think its more of a software issue. Since the bootloop is sooo short, the phone doesnt have a chance to charge. thats what i think is whatsup. But im not sure.
Weather the phone is on or off it should charge. Charging with phone off is a bit faster. As someone suggested the USB port may be bad or it may be a bad charger itself.
So how would i be able to get a usb port? just order it online? easy install?
Well its attached the actual mobo of the phone so some dissecting and a soldering gun is in order to replace the usb port
Sent from my LG-P999 using xda premium
WHOA WHOA WHOA before you start soldering your phone (lol) try flashing CWM on it with a computer. and even before this try different usb/wall wires and different usb chargers. perhaps your charge is too strong or something like that.
anyways try
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056847
more importantly see if you get stuck at the part where, after removing the barrery, you hold both volume keys and plug in usb to pc and see if the pc detects an apx device or w.e. if it does then the problem is (probably) not usb related.
if after flashing CWM it STILL DOES NOT WORK then try
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1248644
this uses your PC to flash an entire rom and everything. stock recovery rom actually
what friend he is, sending you a brick LOL
oh and this goes without saying but you DO have a g2x right?
I like that apx idea. That would determine if it's USB related. Only thing is, if it's not detected that could mean a bad USB but it could also mean just a ruined motherboard.

[Q] My HTC One S won't switch on

Hi guys,
My phone ran out of juice today. When I got home, I connected it to the charger, got about 2 mins of use from it (while it was charging), then suddenly the screen went black (back-lit soft keys stayed illuminated) and the phone started vibrating (softly).
Then eventually it just switched off completely.
Now it seems not be charging at all. The LED charge light isn't coming on. And every now and then while charged, the phone starts that vibrating softly thing. Leaving it connected to the charger for over 1 hour, it starts getting really hot!
Any ideas or am I screwed??
Thanks,
TD
The same happened to me, and the phone war really dead.
If you plug it to the pc via usb cable do you have a qualcomm usb download-mode peripheral? If yes, I really fear that it's gone... At least that was my case.
Sent it to RMA, and they changed my "logic board" (guess that's the soc)...
Edit: in my case, it didn't run out of juice just before, but the same is identical...
Ah that doesn't sound too reassuring lol.
I'll connect it to pc later today and check.
I figured it could be the charging port itself that is damaged and not allowing it to charge to properly?
If its out of manufacturer warranty, how much would it cost to fix, if at all?
thanks,
Nick

If it gets hot I would assume its consuming power or the battery is effed up. Are you able to access hboot or Have you tried to see if adb recognizes your device?
echó en Android
This sounds familiar but if I remember right it happened to me after flashing a bad kernel. It got stuck while booting and wouldn't respond to anything. I don't know how but I managed to resurrect it with a random combo of holding power and volume keys and plugging the cable in and out. After a while it booted into bootloader and I was relieved.

[Q] Droid Maxx Developer Edition reboots over and over

Hello there,
I am hoping you can help me. I bought a Droid Maxx Developer Edition rooted with the bootloader unlocked on the stock rom about a month ago on ebay used. It worked great up until a few weeks ago when I dropped it. It was only from a height of about 3 feet on to a carpeted floor. It had a case and screen protector on it but when I picked it back up I couldn't get it to turn on at first. When I finally did get it to turn on it would just flash the bootloader unlocked warning and the battery indicator at 0% over and over. So I read around and saw that I needed to get an factory adapter to be able to save it. I got the adapter on Friday and I played around with it some and was able to get it to boot the phone properly but still wasn't able to charge the phone. When I just had my charging cable I was only able to get it into fastboot mode and it would say the battery was low. Now with the adapter it says the battery is ok but still doesn't charge. When I dropped it had at least 70% battery. I am hoping I can recover all my data since I can get it booted up now. Though I am not sure how since the droid maxx doesn't have a sd card. I was thinking and please correct me if this doesn't work but I was thinking maybe I could boot up the phone on the factory cable and then place it on the wireless charger to maybe charge it. I haven't tried it yet since I was afraid to burn up something. I was also reading that there were some roms you could flash that wouldn't hurt your data. I wasn't sure if they were for this phone or for others. That would be nice if I could to that.
I want to try and recover this phone if possible since it is a developer edition and Motorola no longer carry's them. Not that it matters since I have no warranty with them since I did't buy it new. I would bet it was out of warranty when I bought it anyway. Any help or productive suggestions is greatly appreciated.
That sounds to me like s cracked logic board or maybe something on the inside is ripped. I recently bought a mini that was badly bent out of shape...after replacing a battery LCD digitizer frame ear piece, the device would boot only to cool down mode. So a logic swap got me a working phone, if you can get into fastboot.. You may be able to pull files. But I am not too sure

OTG works to get data off or just use android file transfer (Mac). USB mass storage works as is on windows.

See my x/ultra page below. Near the bottom for OTG. Windows it just works in mtp.
What happens when you boot to fastboot with just the usb cable attached to a wall charger? do you get the "charging" message in fastboot? or just Low Battery?
edit: the reason i ask is because I had a similar problem once, where i thought the phone was fubar'd cause I couldnt get it to boot, or show anything when plugged into the wall, but i left it overnight and when i got back in the am it worked. the only thing that could get my phone to boot previously was my factory cable

My first attempt to revive the phone I plugged it into the wall with the usb cable and when I booted it up into fastboot mode it said charging. Unfortunately I couldn't leave well enough alone and kept trying to get it to fully boot. When I finally stopped trying and tried to get it into fast boot and get it to charge, it would only say low battery. Then the other day when I got the factory adapter I plugged it in and booted to fast boot and it still said battery low. Then in an attempt to see if the factory adapter would let me transfer files over I plugged it into my PC. I was amazed that it booted up fully. I was excited and I looked it over and didn't see any damage from the fall. The battery indicator widget showed it was plugged in but only 1% and not charging. So I thought I would try fast boot mode with the adapter plugged in. When it booted into fast boot mode this time it said battery ok. I was so happy. So I left it plugged in all day to let it charge. When I finally got home and unplugged it, still dead.
So now that I read your suggestion of plugging it into the wall, I gave it a try since I hadn't tried it since using the adapter. I booted into fast boot and got low battery again. Then I came up with the idea to plug it into my PC. I booted into fast boot and now it is charging!!! I don't want to get my hopes up because I have been disappointed before. It is something new at least. I am, let's just say cautiously optimistic.

Unfortunately while it said charging...It wasn't. My heart sank after leaving it on to charge all day and when I booted from fast boot and it just started boot looping again. Sigh.
Well that wasn't my last option so I am trying to stay positive. Is there a way to flash the stock rom on it and not lose my data? Honestly I have never flashed any roms before so this will be fun. lol

Fast boot without the adapter connected to the PC says Battery Low (charging)
Fast boot with the adapter connected to the PC says Battery OK
Fast boot with/without adapter plugged into the wall says Battery Low
With the adapter and plugged into my PC I can boot into the phone and the battery widget still says 1%.
The battery icon that pops up during the boot loop still says 0%
Ok I am just getting off work now so I will give that a try once I get home. Crossing my fingers and hoping this works.
