Loosing root upon recovery? - HTC Sensation

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
I followed the step 1-3 to get S-off on the guide. I flashed a mod but there was a bug so i decided to do a recovery from the back up i made before I flashed the su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip for permanent root. When I downloaded and opened ROM manager It tells me I need to root first. When I open revolutionary it tells me I have S-off already.
Any chance someone can help figure this out.

Hi,
Best suggestion is to run revolutionary again.
This time go through the whole process.

When I run revolutionary it tells me I have S-off already. Shouldn't I be able to use rom manager if it tells me that? It said superuser was not found.

Just try flashing the su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip again you should then have root.

Don't I need to do it through CWM recovery? It won't let me go into CWM because it thinks I don't have root accesss.

update your superuser and binary versions (from market for app, binary update from within app itself) then you will not have problems with ROM Manager

Thank you guys for all your suggestion. I was able to fix it. I download superuser and it didn't work. What ended up working was going into bootloader, going into recovery and it booted it into cwm recovery from there I was able to flash the su file.

[Q] How to root 2.3.5 sense 3.0,but just root

I want to root my DS to use some apps that require it. how can i do it ?
i want just root, while runing the official rom. can it be done ? thank you.
You'll need s-off, which can be acheived via htcdev.com Then, flash recovery and then the Superuser zip. That's the only way to root 2.3.5
Seems I'm missing something here. I got the HTCDev S-off. Bootloader is now unlocked. Now I want the phone rooted. I installed ROM Manger and tried to install ClockworkMod Recovery but the program keeps telling me on startup that I need to have Superuser installed. When trying to install Recovery download starts but I get an error message loosely translated "error while executing privileged command"
I also downloaded the superuser Rom from the clockworkmod homepage but I don't exactly know what to do with it. Rooting the first HTC Desire was much easier
I'd appreciate any help
Thanks

You are manually going to have to flash ClockworkMod from fastboot mode. As you have discovered, you cannot use ROM Manager to install CWM.

Ok. thanks. as far as I remember I need an *.img file for that which I have to place in the sd-card main folder. The superuser rom I downloaded is a zip file. Where do I get the *.img file? thx again
no, you need a recovery.img. Then flash that and flash the SuperUser ZIP through recovery.
Got that. Thx. And WHERE can I get recovery.img? Found one with Google however I don't know if there are different ones for different phones. Thx
Since when has the desire s been supported by htc dev
Links to threads with cwm recovery or the superior 4ext recovery are in the index thread on the desire s development forum
Say you download the 4ext recovery zip, you can then extract the recovery img file out of it
Sent from my HTC Desire S using xda premium

It is not 'officially' listed on the htcdev site, however, the locked HBOOT 2.00.0002 can be unlocked using the procedure that is listed on the htcdev site.
thanks alot !

Thanks a lot. That did the trick. Desire S is rooted and Titanium Backup works now.
I'd like to know for future reference how you flashed the image. Can you use android flasher after s-off to do this? (i used rom manager method)
well, for now i just s-off-ed using htcdev.com .
next i was trying to figure out how to root, what steps.i've read the dedicated thread , but it helps me not . can you just point out the next steps ? rooting for dummies pls
Ok. It's rather easy. After using htcdev's method to S-Off the HBOOT, I downloaded the 4extrecovery_v2.1.0_saga.zip file from the 4ext homepage and extracted recovery.img from the archive onto my hard drive.
Then I started the phone in fastboot mode, connected it via USB to the notebook (don't forget USB debugging) and used fastboot.exe to flash recovery.img from my Windows notebook via a command line (cmd). Then I started 4ext recovery from fastboot mode on the Desire S and flashed the Superuser-3.0.6-efgh-signed.zip file I had also downloaded from 4ext homepage and had copied in the main directory of my sd-card. reboot phone and you're done.
In case you need a tutorial for flashing via fastboot look here:

Thanks to all for helping

Once you are hboot unlocked, you can install a custom recovery and then install the su binary and superuser app to gain root access. Then you can use Titanium backup.

I have a similar question to the OP's one.
I want to root my Desire S so as I can use more apps, how do I go about doing this?
From reading around it seems to be like this:
1. Unlock Bootloader
2. Flash Custom Recovery such as 4Ext
3. Flash su file
4. Install superuser app
Would these be the correct steps to take and give me root acess?
(Edit: If possible, can someone post the exact steps needed for flashing the custom recovery and su file? I'm not exactly sure as to how to go about doing this)
Anyone? I have already unlocked my bootloader, but I still am not sure it the rest of the steps I have posted are correct (or even how to go about doing them).

[Q] Need Help Flashing Recovery img

Im already S-OFF and I've been following directions left to right to flash a recovery but nothing is working. I copied the img file on root of the Sd card but I still can't get it to flash when i'm on Hboot. So i decided to go back to revolution.exe and had it install clockwork 4.0.1.4 for me and I tried to install su from there and got an aborted message. Can someone help me ???
The file that you copy on your SD card should be named PG58IMG.zip
It should be a zip file, not an img file.

You flash an .img using adb and fastboot commands from your computer with the phone connected.
You flash PG58IMG.zip from hboot.
SU almost always abort on first attempt, if you read "how-to root" in the rooting thread you would know that. Several flashes may be needed, just repeat until succesful.
Already S-OFF
Since you're already S-OFF with Revolutionary...
If you need to install ADB here are the instructions:
[GUIDE] (For Noobs) SDK, ADB, and Drivers
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1152148
Next if you want 4EXT Recovery please follow steps 2 & 3:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1631861
For ROOT and SuperCID please follow steps 3 & 4:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300
Of course, after this you want to do a NANDROID Back-up and if required by the ROM I would do a wipe and don't forget to upgrade your Firmware to 3.32 if you're going to enjoy some ICS...
Be sure to check all the requirements for the ROM you're loading.
Please feel free to press "Thanks" if I helped ya.
Thank You
Thanks to all the help. I followed them all and was successful

No proper root access

Hi,
I just rooted my sensation (t-mobile) using juopunutbear's wire trick and everything and flashed the clockworkmod touch recovery and it works. Then, I used the recovery to flash the su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip and that seemed successful. However, when I rebooted, I downloaded root checker, and it said "Sorry! This device does not have proper root access." Does anyone know whats wrong or had a similar problem?
The phone's software number is 3.32.531.14 710RD. I also attached a picture of the bootloader. Any help would be great appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Edit: PROBLEM SOLVED!

you can try to install any app that needs root permissions
and see if it works just for testing
otherwise flash 4ext recovery and then flash the su-2.3.6.3-efgh-signed.zip again
for recovery see here

I get an error, it's in the attachment:
I figured out the problem! Apparently since the phone was ICS, su-2.3.6.3 did not work. Thus, I found the superSU.zip and installed that and it worked!

[Q] Root trouble after updates (JB and Moonshine S-Off)

Hey sorry to bother you but you seem like a guru in almost every Android topic but i have an issue at hand.
I have a HTC One SV from Boost Mobile. At first i was running ICS with root and CWM as my recovery, as your aware the JB update came out and i really wanted to update so i did the method from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...0&postcount=18 i was successful in the update, i did not check if i still had roost after the update. So i also noticed that there was a moonshine s-off method available and i proceeded with the method and successfully removed s-off. I also noticed that by doing the s-off method it also included root; so then i decided to check if root survived but i come to find out that i lost it. My original root i was using was ChainsDD superuser and the moonshine uses SuperSU, what options can i do in order to fix and gain root again? or did the JellyBean update patched root access?

You need custom recovery for boost, look here.
From within the custom recovery you should be able to flash something like this.
This should bring you Supersu app & SU binaries.

HTC DEV unlock and JuopunutBear S-Off what next?

Total NOOB and now stuck. I've read the NOOB guides but can't work out what next.
I started with stock H boot1.29 and ICS 3.33, wanting to install CM10. So went throught HTC DEV bootloader unlock, then managed to get S-OFF with JuopunutBear using LiveCD of Umbutu. I though i was alomost done and the next step was installing CWM recovery via ROM manager then CM10. However Clockwork ROM manager brings up an error that i'm not rooted. From what I've read here I need to gain super user access. How do I do that now?
Its been an interesting couple of hours (never used umbutu before!) Your help would be much appreciated! I hope I'm nearly through!

Nearly there. I've abandoned Rom Manager path to install recovery and am following http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1192300 step 2-4. Had to super CID (step 4) before I could get the PG58IMG to run for step 2. Just doing a backup in CWM before attepting to run the su-2.3.6.3-ef-signed.zip in step 3.
Am I on the right track?
EDIT: just finished running su-2.3.6.3-ef-signed.zip and all looks good!

Sweet as! Installed CM10.1. My first non stock ROM since windows mobile ROM on an imate phone 6 years ago. Its was definitely easier back then, certainly didn't need a paperclip and stopwatch, linux, and 6 hours of reading forums! thanks to everyone who has written user guides here - couldn't have done it without that help.
