Bootloader broke down - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

What i have: Nexus S i9023
What i had: Blandroid 2.3.7
What i did today: flashed .zip from sdcard to stock 2.3.6 found on xda
then flashed .zip from sdcard stock 4.0.3 found on xda
now my bootloader (i press vol up and power button) says unlocked but if i try to go into recovery it breaks down. superuser is insalled on my phone. but i don't have access to rom manger (says i need root).
what can i do? is my phone still rooted or not? how can i root it again? will i lose my data from my sd card?
greets!

There was a problem with su and official ics but here is what I did: I went back to official 2.3.3 downloaded from xda, phone notified me of an update, jumped straight to 4.0.3 ( update was 160 mb so it might be both 2.3.6 and 4.0.3) then I followed this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1396913
Installed rom manager, updated my cwm then I went to su website and downloaded today's fix now my su is working and notifies me if any app needs permission.
Hope this helps

cm6 to blackend e4g 0.0.1a 2.3.3 lost root and access to cwm recovery

Have an evo 4g recently flashed blackend e4g 0.0.1a [2.3.3] . I had CM6 running strong and was able to flash CM7 OMGB Fresh and a bunch more. After flashing blackend I lost root access . I can't get into recovery manually or through rom manager. I tried to reroot using revolutionary method for 2.3.3 and it tells me my hboot version is not supported [ hboot version 0.93.0000 ] Simply put stuck like chuck. Searched google and this forum hope I landed in the right place thanks.
Using CWM recovery android 2.3.3 Baseband version 2.15.00.07.28 kernel version 2.6.35.10-g13578ee build 4.53.651.1 cl133994 release-keys
Lost root
I am having the same problem. With blackened. When I go to titanium backup, I am told the app will not work on a phone that is not rooted. Also when I tried to flash a recovery from rom manager nothing happens it just stalls.
Any help would be appreciated.

[Q] I need some answers about Nexus S

So I bought Nexus S from second hand recently mostly because it will get official ICS support from Google.
So because it's second hand buy, I really don't know if I'm using original bootloader, kernel, radio etc.
It's rooted (because I have Superuser app), I think it has stock 2.3.6 android (build number GRK39F) and kernel version 2.6.35.7-gf5f63ef, [email protected]#1.
Can someone who use stock android and original kernels confrime to me that this is right version?
I really want to update to ICS using incremental update which I found here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445635) but I'm affraid to don't screw something because of bad experience when I radio bricked my desire
Can I update it to ICS or I need to do unroot or something?
Just download the correct stock ICS rom for your device (if it is I9020T or I9023) ,put it on the SD root and then flash it using the stock or CWM recovery and be done with it (if you need the ICS)
most likely you won't be update by OTA because you are rooted (system file verification will fail)
just download stock ICS ROM and flash it ...
Ota will install fine if its a stock rom with just root. The update script basically checks that everything that should be there is there . If there is something else in there like su it don't matter.
flashing a new rom is the best way to go if you have cwm installed already
I succesfuly flashed ICS and first impressions are very good.
But I think I lost recovery...

flash a CWM recovery via adb , or there is TWRP recovery in DEV section , which is very good .

revert back to stock to update to ICS

Hi , few months ago i rooted my phone ( did not install any custom rom) only the clockwork recovery mod (somethin like that) i think , so now i wanna go back to stock so i can install ICS, i download my RUU and a pg58IMG.zip file(what is that for) , so the problem is that my phone is connected in charging mod to my pc , and debugging is on , but adb devices cant read it , what should i do ?
Please any additional info would be appreciated , thank you alot
as far as i know, if you want to install stock htc ics, you just download the original RUU, run setup and plug in your phone, you don't need clockwork recovery or anything else like that, just follow the steps from the HTC RUU setup...
If you have received the FOTA updated just changed the recovery to stock HTC Recovery. And flash or run the OTA update. I use this guide to get back to stock HTC Recovery it may also help you [GUIDE] Get Stock Recovery/Install OTA Updates without losing data.

Phone not getting updated

My friend has t-mobile htc one s and it is rooted and clockwork mod recovery. Today he got an official 4.1.1 jellybean update and he downloaded it. After selecting install now the phone reboots but the update doesn't get installed. Does he has to unroot his phone so as to install the official update. Some time the phone goes into recovery and the red triangle appears.
Any help would be appreciated.
Needs to put back on the original recovery for the version software that you're friend has.

[Q]

HI
i want to update from 4.1 to 4.2 (10.6.1.14.8) and i downloaded this firmware from asus global site
i used this way for last updates :
i decompressed that firmware i downloaded
then i rename it to " EP201_768_SDUPDATE.zip " and copy this file to micro sd and insert sd into the tablet
then i power it down then i press and hold VOLUME DOWN and POWER buttons simultaneously
at last i release the buttons ^^ and press VOLUME UP
then the new firmware automatic was installed
my tablet is unlocked and rooted and i installed TWRP 5.0 on it (because i wanted to install superSU on it to root my device) and i don't installed any custom ROMs
i want to update from that way i wrote with that firmware i downloaded from asus global site.
does this way of update causes any problems on my device or not?

You can just download the 4.2 update, unzip it once and put the resulting zip file (no re-naming should be necessary) on you internal or microSD.
Boot into TWRP and flash the update from there.
You do not have the stock revovery anymore, so the tablet will not automatically recognize the update file.
Be aware that if you install the stock rom you will loose TWRP since the stock recovery will overwrite it.
Also back up root and restore after the update. Or, if that fails you can use the Motochopper tool to root JB 4.2.
All that said: If you are unlocked and have TWRP already (and I assume it's version 2.5 - not 5.0?) - why don't you first try CROMi-X???
It's SO much better than the stock rom and if you don't like it, you can always flash the stock rom.
The thread is in the Develoment section. Read the OP and make sure you first flash the correct bootloader for 4.2, then boot back into your old rom before flashing the custom rom.
