I'm sick of this black bar and blue clock clashing with my homescreen. Been tinkering with ninjamorph on the tf for a few days and I've been able to customize most of the ugly things away in honeycomb, but I haven't had much luck with the notification bar.
Does anyone know where the notification bar is in the framework.apk file? I'm looking for the back, home, and running apps icons as well.
Also I want the off-blue clock to be white, but after searching around the only methods I've found were using ninjamorph on phones. Any good methods for tablets?
Not really interested with launchers, tried alot of them and it just wasn't for me, doing it with ninjamorph to replace the framework files.
If this belongs in questions & answers my apologies, seemed like the theming subforum was more suitable.

Look in SystemUI.apk for those icons
thanks man! Found alot of the ones I was looking for but didn't mention as well, like the blue glow. I noticed there were XML files with system bar in the title, does that mean I'm sol?
I haven't gotten around to replacing my wifi/battery icons yet, but I also noticed there are 2 sets - one in framework, and one in systemui, does it matter which one I change? Or do they change different things? They look exactly the same.
depending on which rom your running you can use the UOT kicthen to theme the battery ad wifi icons on the notification bar. it works on the rev HD rom i think, i run the revolver rom and havent tried it yet but i dont see why it shouldnt as long as you extract the framework res etc properly.

http://uot.dakra.lt/
you need to extract both the framework res apk and system ui pk to the kitchen once you have chosen the mods you want
I've use the kitchen with Prime's ROM. Battery icons are good
The font work but you'll have to play around cause some
font don't look too good on the TF.
For some reason kitchen wouldn't let me choose my framework & systemui files, no problem though, I just used a preset on kitchen and moved them over manually.
I just did the systemui apk with a reboot, changed the wifi and a few others but didn't change my battery icon for some odd reason. Updating the framework apk as I type this, hopefully it fixes it.
EDIT: no luck, just messed up my notification menu -.-'
ugh, my notification menu keeps overlapping the notification bar, need to find a system dump for 3.2 to start over because my systemui backup was overwritten.
This keeps happening when I swap the images out with greyscaled versions in ninjamorph.

looks like 2 framework res's running at the same time, although i could be wrong.
to upload the framwork res and system etc to the UOT kitchen, you first need to extract them from your current ROM, extract them from the rom zip to desktop. then you can upload them to the kitchen. the kitchen needs your current ROM res etc to implement the mods in the right way for your device.
then flash the zip that the kicthen cooks with CWM and you should be good to go.
well I'm not sure that frameworkres is to blame because when I replace the systemui apk back to the default systemui apk it goes back to working normally despite any possible framework issues.
I tried changing it image by image last night and came to the conclusion that when I change notify_panel_clock_bg_pressed.9.PNG, notify_panel_notify_bg.9.PNG, and panel_notification.PNG in the systemui/Res/drawable-mdpi directory it causes them to do this.
I also should add that in some circumstances ninjamorph shrinked the size of my systemui apk file from 1mb to about 800kb. Perhaps a compiling error?
Uot kitchen does not offer any custom notification ui's for honeycomb that I saw, but everything else of theirs that I changed manually to the systemui file worked without errors. It didn't change my battery icons in the frameworkres apk however. I had to change it manually because when I go to upload files, it brings me to this screen without even prompting me to select a file manager.
I'll attempt it on a desktop later on today.

Yeah I've never tried it on the tablet itself, always from the PC.
I tried to find the pngs to change, but I only found the outline of the battery. Does anyone know which file I have to change exactly?

battery icons png are located in the folder
res/drawable-mdpi
&
res/drawable-xlarge-mdpi
easiest way is to use the UOT kitchen
I put together some directorys for the systemui.apk and framework-res.apk i hope they come in handy
and the overscroll glow png's are in framework-res at res/drawable-mdpi overscroll_glow.png and overscroll_edge.png

For a few days I did a ClearStatusBar.
BUT:
I found it very awful, that nobody can read the time, when Market App or Browser is open. Damn, you're all right.
Now I did a new Theme, it's metamorph.
It's clear, but a little bit smoky on top, that we can see our clock on the upper left corner.
Look here:

New Battery Icons like on this picture
The blue homescreen is not the real statusbar, you can see it on first picture. I did this picture here, to show you the new notification icons.
What changes this morph:
- Statusbar
- Battery Icons
- WiFi Icons
- Mobile Icons
- GPS Icon
- Gmail Statusbar Icon
- Email Statusbar Icon
- SMS/MMS Statusbar Icon
- Google Talk Statusbar Icon
- Statusbar drawer
Installation and Downloads
At first I have to say something new!
The new Metamorph seems to be a bit unstable by applying themes with coloured text in the statusbars. Some of you have reported problems while applying it. So I have decided to make the theme applying in a few little steps.
This is a Metamorph Theme. You have to install Metamorph (or better: Metamorph Pro) from the market. Copy the following files to your SD Card in the folder "AndroidThemes"
If you have problems
Check following
1. Have you downloaded the correct files for your ROM?
2. Have you debugging enabled in the Android Menu?
3. Install "Titanium Backup" start it and hit the "Problems?" Button, then it installs a correct busybox version. This is required!!!
4. In Metamorph, press Menu, and play with the applying speed. Choose a speed above 4200!
5. Never check the "Disable startup checks" in Metamorphs settings
5.2. If the notification text isn't white, reapply the second zip file. Metamorph is a bit buggy with it. I must apply it four times, but it still works
6. Never, never, never rename the zipfile. If you do this, you become error messages like "Theme Control File Missing"
7. If U use ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro and have a Black StatusBar with static Wallpapers: Go to ADW Settings and Disable the "Wallpaper Hack" With LauncherPro there is no chance. Write this Problem to Fede from LauncherPro, that he make it switchable

Absolutely perfect! Great job!
And again, you have created something that has found a home on my phone; thanks!
can u upload the file to another server, i can't sownload from 4shared.
thanks.
EDIT: download from my nexus and apply, thanks looks very nice
Thank you very very much for the good words!
I've had a mirror at rapidshare.
I hope it works for you.
Thanx ...... Greatly appreciated ......
Do you happen to have a morph of the original files incase someone wants to morph back??
Yes, I can do that.
But ts easier to flash simply the rom again. It will only overwrite these morphed files.
No wipe required.
But I think I can do that at weekend, only with changed graphics, so its usable for every ROM. I hope, I have the time.
Thank you so much Formel-LMS i like your works since hero
Looks nice. Only thing I can see that would need work (in my own personal taste) if the network connection icon. It looks funny in the black box. I think you should clear the background of it to only show the bars. (see my blue bar morph for examples http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636186)
Hi, Know-Fear,
I've tried many icons, but the Problem is, you can see them not so good.
In this theme, the GSM Network icons are stock, too.
But I will have a look into your theme and eventually use the Icons.
Thank you, bro!

The bars themselves will be black/gray until filled with white, so they should show up as good as your clock does. The is just no black box around them.
love this morph, was wondering if there is any chance you could make it work with the modaco desire rom, im currently running alpha 10 and i really like it , but miss this clear bar mod

It could be applied to the original N1 Rom?

Yes you will need root as well as the Metamorph app (available in the market).
Will this work on 5.0.4?
Just upgraded to Cyanogen 5.0.4
The Link is in first Post
Hi,
i installed the theme, but the clock in the top right hand corner is black so i cant see it.
in the your screen shots it is white, have i done something wrong?
thanks
??? Anybody else this problems? I have it on my nexus and the clock is white.
Have you Cyanogen 5 and all of this theme installed?
Probably you should have it to redownload and try again.
SPRINT BASED, UN-ODEXED, 2.1 ROMS ONLY!
These are all MetaMorph files! Do not try to flash them as an update.zip! You have been warned!
By downloading any of the below links you agree that I am not responsible for anything that happens to your phone.
Misc Stuff:
You can use any combination of the 4 lockscreen Morphs, so you can do a slide lockscreen with no text and a clear background, or a rotary lockscreen with text and a custom background. Mix and match till you're happy
The reboot after any of these Morphs (with the exception of the two background Morphs) will take a very long time, since they all edit a framework file and have to re-write the dalvik-cache.
If you encounter any problems (random reboots, FCs, etc.), try rebooting, then wiping dalvik-cache, then fixing apk UID mismatches.

Same result here... I'm going to try to push a different framework-res to see if it corrects it.
EDIT: That seems to have fixed it. Push the framework-res from Sushi or Ic3Rom. I've attached the Ic3ROM file. This looks the best IMO.
Code:
adb push framework-res.apk /system/framework
adb reboot
This + cyanogen launcher.apk = win

I structured the folder framework in the framework-res theme wrong, it is fixed now.
Before you try it though, adb pull your current framework-res.apk, open it up and delete the drawable-mdpi and layout folders that are in the root directory of the app (NOT THE ONES THAT ARE IN THE /res FOLDER)
New version also contains JsChiSurfs black carrier text and white clear button!
Just updated again, the AOSP taskbar had one wrong icon with 1x dormant... it is fixed now.
Tried the rotary lock screen and vanilla lock screen and neither worked. download > applied through metamorph > reboot > delete htclockscreen.apk in system\app
Am I doing anything wrong?

Just pulled my framework-res.apk file and there isn't a drawable-mdpi or layout folder in the root, so I assume the fix I did earlier (Using the Ic3ROM framework-res.apk as illogic6 suggested) cleared this up? Am I safe to try it out?
(I am anyway as soon as I nandroid, but.... you know...)
EDIT: Nope, didn't work.
Sense crashed before it was applying the framework-res.apk, something else crashed a little later, then when it got to the framework-res.apk, the phone locked. I gave it about three minutes before I decided it was time to pull the battery. What files do I actually need to apply to get the updated notification window? mms.apk and phone.apk kind of seem useless at this point?
EDIT 2: Got it working. I just used the com.htc.resources.apk and the framework-res.apk instead of the whole update and got it going great. It still froze, but I sort of didn't care... I pulled the battery and just let it boot and it worked fine. I honestly think that it's a problem with my installation of Metamorph.....

This morph is more susceptible to failure just because if how big framework res and com.HTC.resources are. If metamorph runs out of space to use then it wont apply the theme. So ya, if it doesn't apply the theme try rebooting and reapplying... that USUALLY helps...

What Rom are you using? And in what way is it not working? Is it staying at the slide unlock and just not changing or what?
For the community because I couldn't find any around.
24/05 - An updated framework-res.apk ONLY for CM-5.0.7-T3 ONLY! Apply this asper instructions below and change the clock and notification text colour to your preference in the Spare Parts app. CM-5.0.7-T3 ONLY. The 3G icon fix by suffeks is included.
OLDER - An updated framework-res.apk and services.jar based on CM-5.0.7-T2-N1 with the black Desire status bar, Desire icons, semi-transparent pull-down menu (framework-res.apk) and white notification bar text (services.jar).
Edit: I don't intend to maintain this or turn it in to a theme or morph. I just threw it out there. Kang it.
1. Push or copy to /system/framework
2. Reboot
These files are based on test files! Expect them to change or break when you upgrade!

Fair enough on the section... even though it's compiled rather than a theme... I could have put it elsewhere. The mods are pretty friendly round here though, so no harm no foul.
Didn't mean to step on your territory either... I couldn't find a morph for 5.0.7 that didn't break services.jar. Sorry if I didn't look hard enough. I take no creative credit, nor do I intend to maintain, I just thought it filled a gap. Perhaps I was wrong. If this is the case the mods can delete.

Nice, been looking for just the bar.
Ok, stupid question time, I have adb set up on my laptop, but the power cord is fried, need to wait for the replacement to come in. Could I just use root explorer to copy the files over? I'm guessing I'd need to mount r/w first though.

You can use root explorer after mounting /system as rw yes (do this with root explorer). Copy the files as in post #1 and reboot.
Bug
This causes the market to FC every time it tries to install anything.
I've wiped and reflashed cyan 507 t2 and all is ok. as soon as i push servicer.jar and the framework-res.apk it causes market to FC when it tries to install...
Using Root Explorer kept putting me in a boot loop, the phone reboots as soon as I try to replace the framework-res file. I threw adb on my store's pc, got it working just fine that way, thanks for this.
@adam, go to settings -> applications -> Manage applications and go to Market. Uninstall updates, and everything should work fine.

Yes, colours, depth, size and transparency. In fact they're better optimised than the stock images. This was just a stop-gap until somebody releases a 5.0.7 morph or theme though.

Wow! Keen eye... I see it also but only for a split-second before it changes to an H.
I've just released a beta of Kang-o-rama 0.7 and will endeavour to fix it for the final release of that.
I TAKE NO CREDIT FOR THIS LOOK FOR IT UNDER G1 THEMES AND APPS I DON'T KNOW IF THE LINKS WILL WORK SINCE I'M USING XDA APP so here's the post go look it up
I've never started a thread here, as I rarely have a unique idea - but this time I've decided to bite the bullet and share my experience.
It has been discussed on these forums about editing the APKs for non-stock apps in order to make the icon match the theme throughout the OS (as opposed to using Bettercut or similar to just change the homescreen icon). It has also been discussed elsewhere, but I can't find the link.
My problem was very similar, yet different, so I figured I'd play around and see what I could come up with.
I use the unbelievably sexy GlossSuite theme by Moonsspoon which uses this cool little icon in the notification bar to alert you to having a new SMS (and maybe MMS, not sure...).

I also use the app from the market called SMS Popup. If you dont know what it is, check it out - very handy. One of my favorite features of the app is that you can use it for your SMS notifications, and it allows you to set a custom vibe pattern and it will flash the LED the color of your choice - both very helpful to let you know that it's an SMS you're getting instead of a call or whatever...
You need to turn off the native SMS app's notifications when you use this feature of SMS Popup so that you dont get 2 alerts every time you get a message. The drawback to this, while using a theme like GlossSuite, is that the notification icon for messages that SMS Popup uses is the stock icon:
This is only a problem if you're OCD like myself.
I had already gotten the png icon extracted from the GlossSuite theme in hopes that I could just swap it out with the icon inside the SMS Popup apk (if I could find it, that is).
So I decided to crack open the APK for SMS Popup and see if I could find the icon used and what I could do to make it use the icon from the GlossSuite theme.
Inside the APK in the /res/drawable folder there are 2 images: The app's icon, and the icon used in the notification bar. And to make it even easier, the file name was exactly the same as the file used by the GlossSuite theme! Easy enough!
I used 7zip (WinRAR should work just fine too) to:
1. Open the APK
2. Navigate to the /res/drawable folder
3. Delete the stat_notify_sms.png
4. Drag and drop the png I extracted from the theme into it's spot
5. Delete the META-INF folder inside the SMS Popup APK
-- I got this info from the previously mentioned thread about swapping non-stock icons. It is so that when you resign the APK in the next step, the keys don't conflict with what the APK dev has used (or something like that - I admittedly don't know anything about keys and signing and all that jazz)
6. Close your archiving application.
I then used this auto-signing tool posted by "Dave Da illest 1" to resign the APK using the testkeys. It had to be edited slightly to sign APKs instead of ZIP files. If you want to download my edited version of the auto-signing tool, click here.
Uninstalled the previous version of the app, copied the APK over to my SDcard and then used AppManager to install the APK, and now:
(yes, I know there are typos...)
It works!
I'm sure most of your brainiacs here at XDA have figured this out on your own, but I couldnt find any solid information on it so I figured I'd share what little knowledge I had on the subject.
If you want to try this for yourself and want the icon from the GlossSuite theme, it is here.
And if you just happen to have GlossSuite installed and are using SMS Popup and would like my already edited version of the APK, click here.
[DISCLAIMER: If my sharing of this APK goes against any rules of the forum, please excuse my ignorance. If I find out this is the case, and a mod hasn't beat me to the punch, I'll gladly remove this link!]
So - with all that being said, I should clarify that I haven't done any theme creation (although I have edited a few pngs here and there, but nothing major), so obviously this bit of information is probably well below most of you... But if it can help anyone, then yay for my first real contribution to this community.

really if you are using 7zip pull out the png you want to edit and make sure the one you are replacing it with is the same dimensions (i.e. if the original is 20pixels by 20pixels then the replacement should be the same 20x20) and have the new one named exactly the same (i.e. original named awesome.png then the new one you name awesome.png case sensitive) and drag the new .png back to where you got the original from inside the apk there is no need to resign. so leave the Meta-Inf alone and adb push the .apk file back onto your phone where you got it from.
... so what i'm getting at is no need to delete the meta-inf and resign if you are replacing the .png with a .png of same dimensions and name.
unless i'm missing something which i don't believe i am. (then again i don't use a file manager to reinstall the .apk i just push it to the phone.)
Can anyone help direct me how to theme this. when on the homescreen, and press the menu button you have a list of options that popup including: all apps, scenes, add to home, wallapaper, notifications, settings
I would like to make it black background and the pictures and text white, so basically revert it. any help as to were these icons can be found and how to change to text color. please and thank you for any help!
That would be Rosie. Are familiar with rosie?

ok thats what I thought, I did find a few of the icons, I think 4 outta the 6 but I amd still not sure how to make the background black instead of white and change the text to white from black, thanks for the reply!
Changing the background is most likely gonna be a 9.png image and changing the color of the txt is probably gonna be buried away in XML file.

It's not rosie. The pngs for the background are in framework-res and the text color is in com.htc.resources. the icons are in both and in the apps themselves.

The images are in framework-res.apk in the drawable-hdpi folder. They are menu_background.9.png and menu_background_fill_parent_width.9.png. I too am trying to figure out how to get the white text instead of black, so I can change the background. Once I figure it out, I have the images I want to use.

black menu for AOSP roms
I'm stlill looking for a way to get my menus black on cm 6.1 stable. I don't want a full theme b/c I want to use my own transition animations and other custom feats. I like the stock black theme that comes with cm 6.1 but want black menus! Can anyone point me in the right direction???
I have a metamorph theme that will give you want you want. However you will need to then pull the framework-res.apk because I have noticed the metamorph may cause issues with force closes. But once you have the framework-res.apk jut make it into an update.zip and when they flash it they shouldn't have any problems.
black menu cm 6.1
Really? That's awesome! Where can I find your metamorph theme? I just tried to pull the menu back ground out of cm7 framework-res and placed them in the cm6.1 framework-res.apk and zipped and installed, it kinda worked just no text in the menus!

The text is in values.xml once you de compile the frame work if you want I help make a gingerbread theme for cm6 this is what my menu looks like. If you want it just look for ninjabread in the theme section
The op of the topic broke his pc so I took it over. So the newer one is close to the last post and not the op.

Thanks for the help but I'm only looking to mod the menu to look like they do in cm 7. I've tried ninjabread but when I go to metamorph my transition animations it sends me into a bootloop then off to restore back up. Is there a theme zip for menu only? What part of the framework is value.XML located?

Values is a folder that will show up once you decompile the apk. It is actually present in almost all apk's res folder.

If you like the look of ninjabread and want you mm to work send me the files and I can make an update.zip custom for you. Or send me a pic of how the menu looks and I will try to do it for you.

I really hate to be a pain, but... THERE ARE A LOT of values folders once I decompiled the framework-res.apk. which values folder would I find the text for my menu's? If anyone has the time or patients and are willing to help me out, hit me up on gtalk... [email protected]

wish I could help you, I only got as far as the OP thanks to the theme I took all the hacks from. running an evo rom such as myns, already has a GB theme, it's very time consuming to do this when you know what you're doing, and near impossible when you don't
