For app conflict resolution.
Wipe cache partition
Wipe Dalvik cache
Fix Permissions
If that doesn't do it,
Use titanium backup.
Batch backup all your user apps.
Wipe data and factory reset your current rom.
Verify the problem exists before re installing your personal apps (don't use the market app untill the end of this process).
If the problem exists, I would sbf back to stock and start over from scatch.
If the problem goes away, start restoring your user apps/data one at a time in titanium backup to try to replicate the problem. It could be just one or more apps conflicting with each other.
If you can identify which app(s) are causing the problem, uninstall the app(s) and download them again from the market (or other source) to install them fresh.
This may solve your problem. If not, then either try using other apps or doing without the problem apps (assuming you can identify the offending apps).
After this go ahead and enter the market app for your other/paid apps
As always, every device is different (even the same model, running the same rom, with the same apps installed) and sometimes there are unusual problems for individual phones.

Question posed by ME
I have been seeing this on multiple threads so I want a clarification. Please.
Cm7 comes with cm recovery baked in (froyo & gb?). Rom Manager won't work with out flashing cwr. For that flash droidx 2nd init.
1) If you are not going to use rom manager, do you need to flash this?
2) bootstrap recovery conflicts with cm7 and MIUI. How do you get to cwr if everything fracks up? When you bootstrap you can get to cwr by doing battery pulls.

Answer from bikedude880 @ rootzwiki
It is highly recommended to install cwm via Rom Manager as CM7 /removes/ bootstrap entirely on install. Newer version can restore older, but not the other way around. Battery pulls are still applicable.

Question posed by ME
I have a couple questions.
#1 can I flash a nandroid of a different device to recover this one if things go wrong?
#2 when updating the cm7gb revnumbers kang, do we have to factory reset and wipe data/cache?
#3 can you reflash on top of the current rom to reset the system software/settings etc. (To get rid of scripts and mods and be fresh) without factory reset and wipe data/cache? So as not to loose apps and settings etc...

Answer from kr3n @ rootzwiki
#1 As long as the nandroid is from a d2g and has the same kernel
#2 No

This is regarding the new .608 gb sbf
So, I can flash that over my current install of Foryo + root + Clockwork?
Also, what about the unlocked status of the phone?
I have no idea how it is unlocked. Is there any way I can tell if the phone has been truly unlocked?

Yes you can flash it with what ever you have or don't have
You will have to reroot after with petes root tools
Once unlocked the phone is always unlocked can't be locked again
Sbfs and roms don't touch that part of phone

Answered by Gasai Yuno in Rootzwiki Forums:
There are no non-US D2Gs. Use the stock 4.5.608 (or 4.5.629 if it was somehow updated to 4.5.629).
Either try ezSBF or RSDLite the proper official 4.5.608
(the MD5 sum for it is 2152ee89e314f5b282753ee56fa36c07).
Naturally, on CM7, the device cannot be unlocked.

most stable rom?
This is a great collection, thanks for the legwork.
Noob Question, if I may: I'm currently on Hexen/Froyo and wanting to upgrade to GB. Is there a general opinion on the question of "Most Stable GB Rom", currently? Or some sort of high-level pros/cons discussion? Searching the forums doesn't really yield good results - mostly it's people with problems, or folks who don't know how to sbf. I'm basically interested in finding out which one crashes the least, or conversely, the one that "you just like, even w/ the occasional reboot".
I reckon the following are on the table: Apex, Liberty, MIUI, & CM7; not sure if either Venus, or the VZ stock GB are even worth considering...? (What's the skinny on Venus? I read it's garbage/banned, and then I read elsewhere that it's just fine... big wtf there.)
Thanks in advance; long time reader, 1st-time poster. Have a good one out there.

Stock Gingerbread is very stable. Unlike stock Froyo, it's not as slow as well; the Gingerbread version of Blur is a lesser resource hog.
Stock 2.3 will also give you the best battery life so far, according to my research. (I get up to 36 hours on a single charge with GPS and WiFi on 24/7.) Just root it, and freeze some bloatware. You can also use a 3rd party launcher instead of the stock Blur one.
Random reboots happen with the stock ROM, however not quite often. For example, my phone usually reboots itself after 400-450 hours of uptime.
MIUI and CM7 are only stable for CDMA users. On GSM, there are numerous issues with WiFi and mobile data.

I honestly only have experience with Hexen(froyo) which was great and CM4D2G-GB (CM7).
CM7 has lots of great features but imo is not quite as polished as hexen yet. Stable for the most part on cdma but some users complain of bluetooth issues(think its the bt devices not the phone or rom. There are sooooo many different kinds out there it is hard to build for all.) Also remember we are still in nightlies for cm7-GB. It will get better...
Still both are better than blurstock.
Follow the links I provided if you want a more in depth look at the roms...

Thread stuck

Ran through 'em all quickly
So just a quick report - I decided to get really friendly with RSD Lite today. Overall results:
- no CM7 (what's this 2nd-init business? Maybe I missed something here)
- Apex installed fine
- Liberty installed fine
- MIUI looks kinda freaking AWESOME, but it wouldn't reboot for me, after I'd tried to install Droid 2 Bootstrapper.
I performed the following sequence many times, except when switching from Apex to Liberty, that was the only rom switch that went gracefully. All others required:
- SBF to Froyo .330
- apply upgrade.zip (.607)
- Rooted w/Droid 3 one-click
- Installed Droid 2 Bootstrapper
- - Bootstrapped recovery
- - Rebooted recovery
- Wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe Dalvik
- install rom from zip.
Let me know if you think I missed something in that process, w/r/t CM7 or MIUI. Tired of flashing though, probably just gonna settle on a coin-toss between Apex & Liberty.

One more step. After all that and maybee after you get your base of personal apps going, fix permissions.
I am not sure if it makes a difference if you do it in recovery or through rom manager(or another app).
_______________________________________________________________________
Once you flash cm7-GB you no longer should use bootstrap recovery. There is a conflict of some kind. Get around this by installing ROM Manager and flashing ClockworkMod Recovery (droid X 2nd init). After that you are good to go. I have had no problems. If you want more info on this, follow the link to the cm7-gb thread and read, read, read.... it is in there or the dev thread (which is linked to in the OP of the users thread)

You must not install Droid 2 Bootstrap on MIUI. MIUI includes CWM. CM7 also includes CWM.
And CM7 installs like every other ROM.
Not sure why would you flash the SBF image every time. You only need to flash it in case you are unable to enter CWM.

that was the case, i was unable to get into CWR at all. For example with CM7, I did all that, rebooted, and it just hung at the red "M" logo, and I could only get back into the "Android Recovery <e3>" area. i tried a few different ways of re-installing the O.G. gingerbread update.zip (.607) file, but nothing would work, so I just wound up SBF'ing then running update.zip, then re-rooting, then re-installi.... you get the point.
But again, this is only the 3rd rom I've ever tried, and the first 2 were on Froyo and both ran perfectly fine. Thanks for the tip on not installing Droid 2 Bootstrap onto MIUI... hah, "duh" says me.

On ICS MIUI, press Volume Down when you see the LED light up (blue) while the red Motorola logo is still displayed.
This will take you to the boot menu, and from there you can access CWM.

Hi Gasai,
I am also a GSM user... but I suffer from terrible battery life possibly because of the number of apps I have installed. Do you have very few apps installed ?
Also I understand that our only real option is stock blur minus bloat . Or is there anything else ?

I run stock because it's the most stable 2.3 ROM I know as of this moment. Neither MIUI nor CM7 developers care about GSM anyway.
Battery life varies for me from 18 to 32 hours, but I rarely use my phone for more than 1-2 hours a day.

I done goofed, need some advice.

Hey guys,
I got my first real smart phone about a week ago, it was a USC Samsung Mesmerize. Yesterday I stumbled upon rooting when trying to figure out how to remove useless pre installed apps. All I really want is a slim & fast version & to be able to keep my navigation.
I've had experience with flashing; Xbox 360 & PSP's. So I kind of jumped into this and ended up bricking my phone. Or damn close.
From looking at the back of my phone it says Galaxy S, so I went in that section and downloaded/flashed this originally (caused brick):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=940671
I did everything up to step 7, except it wouldnt boot past the splash screen.
So then came panic time...
I eventually reflashed with a new rom for the correct phone, This one to be exact:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944671
My question is:
What have I really done now that I run on this rom?
I still cant uninstall preloaded software.
I would be willing to flash a new rom so I can have a faster phone.
But really no one makes it clear enough in there guides about how this process actually works.
my best guess is after I flashed with that rom I will be able to upgrade to a better rom?
What is FROYO EA11?
What is voodoo?
First off, consequences will never be the same...
You are now running a STOCK (leaked) 2.2 ROM, with a stock kernel and USCC App Bloat.
If you want a fast Android 2.2 with stock apps removed, do this:
1. Flash the EA11 + recovery via Odin, following the steps here.
2: Download the EA11 voodoo kernel found here and flash.
3: Boot into recovery and run update.zip (this will push you to a red clockwork recovery)
HINT: If you aren't familiar with clockwork recovery, the controls are slightly different. You use still use the volume buttons to navigate, but the power button is now used to execute selections and the search softkey to go back.
4: select install .zip from sdcard
5: select the voodoo .zip and confirm
This will install the new kernel and replace your recovery (which used to require booting into the Samsung recovery before making your way to the clockwork recovery by installing update.zip from sdcard) with a clockwork recovery that will look identical to the one you had after running update.zip, but can enable your newly acquired lagfix.
6: enable voodoo lagfix, and rejoice!
6: Optionally install the Pick and Pack ROM found here. (I WOULD!)
(Credits to MesmerizeUser for these steps, I copypasta'd and edited.)
Good luck with your back-tracing! Let us know if any steps are unclear.
Also, the payed version of Titanium Backup will let you "freeze" stock apps, so they don't appear in your menus, and they won't run, but you can "thaw" them whenever you like.
PS - FROYO EA11 is a leaked Android 2.2 ROM for the Mesmerize. Google names Android releases after deserts, like Donut, Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, etc.
Voodoo is a name of the kernel which changes your EXT2 partition (old school) to EXT4 (new school), and makes your file system much faster.

OK, first of all, welcome. You've come to the right place to do several things. The first of which is to learn. Don't freak out. You're phone is in good hands here in this forum. Unless you really try hard, you can't do much to actually bork it up so bad that we can't fix it.
So, what you have done up to this point is update your phone to the leaked 2.2 firmware. It's not a ROM, it's actually the full firmware. If you want to remove bloat, the easiest way is to now install my EA11 Pick-n-Pack ROM, which already probably lighter than you want it. The good thing, is that it also has an addons pack that you can download to put anything back on that you want. Everything is there in easily flashable zip files. You just have to look inside if you don't see the actual name of something in particular. (ie. calendar is in SamsungandTouchWiz.zip) Now if you want faster with your new light weight ROM, go with the EA11 Voodoo kernel to help boost you up as well. This isn't a final build, as we don't have source code yet so understand this is just a small improvement on the stock kernel. Now, if you want to get all the way back to stock 2.1, might I suggest this thread to help with that. And for some help getting to know a little about everything, pop over to the irc channel in my signature and talk to anyone that happens to be there. We're here to help. If they don't answer, they've probably stepped away. Some of us hang out there and leave the computer idle while we're doing other things.
Again, welcome aboard. I hope some of that info helped you out.
first off...welcome...second if i would have done that i think i may have left a mess in my pants...but seems like you got it running good again plz trust me when i say listen to phidelt82, he will not give you any wrong advise...because of him and a few others, my phone kicks ass and im actually trying to learn how to make themes and roms (dont know much but learning), so yea...you came to the right place to make your phone truly your (with there software...lol)

There most likely is no reason to go back to stock 2.1, correct? My shot in the dark is the reason you would want to is to not get usc on your back and larger selection of stable roms and kernels?
Thanks, you guys f***ing rock.

First off thanks for the quick and acurate responses guys.
About what you said here though:
The "kernal" I loaded claims to be EA11 Stock, you are telling me I need EA11 voodoo Kernal, its called voodoo because its modified. -would this statement be correct?
This would only be used for installing specific preloaded apps, correct?
So basically this is a light rom with the ability to add the removed pre-load apps?

the voodoo kernel is modified with a lag fix. it will speed up your phone a bit. there is a program in the market called quadrant. run the full benchmark and you will get an idea of how your phone stacks up against others and will also give you a base score for your phone. if you do not have voodoo kernel installed your score will be around 800-900, after voodoo your score will be up around 1500.
the pick-n-pack rom lets you addon via the pnpaddons file, stuff you want on your phone prior to flashing. you pick what you want and flash it.
yes it is "a light rom with the ability to add the removed pre-load apps"
the leaked froyo and the voodoo kernel are very nice, i wouldn't go back to eclair 2.1 unless you needed to return the phone to uscc for whatever reason.
good luck and happy flashing.
Just an update guys, Thanks to phidelt82 I am now running 2.2 PnP w/ Voodoo Kernel.
The diffrence is night and day, used to get slow w/ a little lag every now and then. Now its always fast. Thanks again.

Sweet 1506 here.
and dont forget for roms you may flash... you can not UNINSTALL phone apps..... via the 'manage applications' menu.
you have to use a program like Root Explorer and physically DELETE them from the /system/app folder along with other folders they reside in.
only Cyanogen (i think) allows for uninstalling for actual phone programs.

You can also un-install stock apps with Titanium Backup.
Also, it seems like you're rushing into this a little bit.
Relax getting into the dev community is like getting into a slightly chilly pool, you need to ease in.
That said, welcome, and I look forward to seeing you around.

Hi,
I have run Recuva over my file system. I could not recover the sbf, but the file name, modified time and size were found.
They match perfectly the file I downloaded from mpieq.
Cheers, as far as I'm concerned that is the real thing.

Works great! Thanks very much.
Now then... who is going to produce a theme so it looks like leaked / 2.3.3 that wouldnt work with the unfortunate green camera devices?

Was on early 2.2.1 - wanted to upgrade in case of warranty issues.
Flashed with RSD Lite. New Red Motorola logo with white rings when phone starts, but had to pull battery and re-boot manually.
Phone is upgraded with all contacts, settings etc as before.
Just had to root phone with superoneclick to get Titanium back-up and SetVSL running.

You're luck. After upgrade mine boot up but with all settings and apps restored, however it after rooting it wasn't stable. Got to do factory reset and... for a first time used TiBu to restore my apps - works flawlessly . The only issue was the lack of Polish Swype (got it with Eclair) but used the one from CEE ROM and it works flawlessly.
mine simply has lost his Haptic Feedback... it must be restarted to gain his capabilities restored. is losing also his WiFi (with error message in wifi and network settings) and the data connection...
any ideas? could be from the JuiceDefender wrong resources management?
I am on motorola defy with formware version 2.51.1. If I upgrade to this will I lose my root, if I lose root can this be rooted by SuperOneClick.
Does it have blur is without Blur, I ma looking for something without Blur.
With Blur or without Blur?

This ROM is blurred. I flashed it over 2.2.1 (the UK 3.4.3-11 ROM), which I had previously successfully rooted via SOC (in fact, an older version, from months ago), but, as, at first, for strict test purposes, I decided not to wipe anything at all after flashing this ROM, the root condition (just like all my applications and settings) was kept as it was before. My Defy is in this very state ever since.
By the way, I haven't noticed differences between the two ROMs.
Just my 2 cents...
Regards,
Carlos
i have installed the full sbf
no problems with haptic feedback.
all looks fine and smooth..blur is also working nice ..even you can skip the setup.
just the 3g gets stucks up when the phone is idle..(the "H" is shown but the arrows ↑↓ are greyed out ..i have to reconfigure the apn and set it again to get it working.
Guys ne thoughts on this 3g problem..?? i have used defy baseband to switch my baseband for india.
EDIT :: solved the problems....i think this is problem free blur rom so far ...!! kudos to motorola uk..!!
note :: i didnt download from any links given here..i had some other source.
Their is some problem with the link? I have tried to download 3 times, but corrupt file...
If I wanted to go from the Korean 177 base sbf with cm7 rc1 installed to this what would be the procedure? Is it as simple as doing it through rsdlite or through the 2nd init recovery?
Thanks

[Q] Having trouble getting CM7 back on Gingerbread D2G

I have a D2G and I used to run Froyo-based CM7, but since the Gingerbread version is further along in development I went back to Gingerbread by SBFing. So I'm on 4.5.608 and neither of the two times I tried to flash CM7 did it work. I had to SBF twice. The first time, I got the file from Rootzwiki, and the second time I got the "7.1 Stable" file from Rom Toolbox. I used the same Google Apps package on both attempts.
So my questions are:
1. Can a Google Apps package get you stuck at the boot logo?
2. If the problem is my file, where can I go to get a good one?

In order for a Gingerbread ROM to boot it needs the Gingerbread Kernel. Are you booting with a white Motorola logo or a red one?
If it's still white and you're trying to boot Gingerbread CM7 it may be worth it to try to grab the .608 Gingerbread kernel from the TBH hack and flash that in. I've attached it to this post just in case.

7.1 Stable is probably the “official” CM7 build 7.1.0, from the cyanogenmod site.
That one is for Froyo (i.e. can only be installed over 2.4.x stock firmware).
As for RootzWiki builds… did you wipe data prior to or after installing the ROM via CWM?

Yeah, the reason is didn't download the stable one first is because I thought as far as anyone had gotten was 7.0 nightlies. I'm just baffled right now as to why I can't get the Gingerbread CM7. I hate stock haha
Before I flash, I backup, reboot, factory reset, wipe data, cache, dalvik, and even battery stats. Then I install CM, then gapps package, then reboot.
Thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it!
Could you specify the file names for both CM7 and gapps you're using?
And you're wrong about RW builds being 7.0; they use the current CM7 source tree, and the “stable 7.1.0” is basically one of old Froyo builds by revnumbers.
Actually, I got everything from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1297517.html
I used the latest version "update-cm-7.1.0-DROID2WE" and the "gapps-gb-20110828".
The second time I used the CM file from Rom Toolbox and the same Google Apps package. So if a bad gapps package can eff you over, that's probably it. I just don't want to waste my time and try again before I have some xda-genius opinions haha
This is the Froyo-only “official” build. It will never work with a Gingerbread kernel.
As for ROM Toolbox, I have no idea. The gapps package seems to be the right one, however.
Head to http://ez-netsolutions.com/synik4l/x13thangelx/D2G/cm/ for the latest build of CM7 for the D2G. x13thangelx is currently the lead developer working on this project.
Thanks a lot!!!!!! You're the best haha I'll let you know if it works.
Refer to this thread on RootzWiki for more information: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/3069-dev-threaddroid-2-global-cm7-with-gingerbread-leak-kernel/; note that the opening post hasn't been updated since forever, so you won't find the current build there.
And use this thread if you have any questions: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/4922-cm7-for-droid2-global-users-thread/
Not necessary haha, but I got it and it's working and beautiful and every setting has been adjusted and I'm super happy again!=D You're my hero.

Lifecycle of ROM's posted here - Alpha, Beta, offcial?

Hello,
I have a general noob question on the custom [ROM] threads.
Do custom ROM's posted go though an alpha, beta, official release stages? I see some [ROM] threads marked with an alpha or beta... while some others are not.
thanks!
U r right, alpha means something major is broken, beta its the "refinig" stage, and final its the complete rom

There is no such thing as release grade. Everything should be considered at least developmental in some form or fashion.
The terms of alpha and beta do not mean what most people think they do in here.
Even the ones marked alpha and beta can still be daily drivers, just take a look at the first post of each ROM you are thinking about and see if the bugs will "bug" you like for instance any of the CM based ROMs here have issues with camera and video and few other small bugs.
Any ROM based off of "stock" will have less/no bugs and therefore not marked as beta or alpha, since they are not compiled.
It all depends on your personal needs as to what you are comfortable with and if you can deal with certain things not working right out of the box, or that you might have to make a work around for.
I call mine "alpha" or "beta" depending on bugs and/or how much more work I expect to put into it... and my mood at the time
Jim explained it well... it's all subjective to the dev and the end-user..
Best to just make a good backup, know how to restore it, and slap a new ROM on your phone to try it out for yourself.
That being said, be on the lookout for a gamma version of Numa ... (j/k - it's been a long time since I was back on ICS)

Regarding making a good back up, Should I just follow the CWM thread? I found this link in the newbie thread. However, there was little explanation on it's use.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19355021&postcount=1
- Does using the CWM recovery to create a back up have any per-requisites? Can I use it on my stock AT&T Atrix2 that is still on GB?
- If I understand correct, this is used to dump an entire image of the phone (firmware, OS, apps, files etc...) to an SD card? And one can later restore back from.
- I am planing flashing the NUMA Rom. If I take a back up using CWM, I assume I can restore everything to they way it was (i.e. back to GB) without risks?
thanks

First, you need to get ICS on your phone if you want to flash Numa. You must be on 4.0.4 firmware to flash any of the ICS and/or JB based ROMs. The choice is yours on how to get there... please search thoroughly, as it has been covered an insane amount of times.
But, to try and answer your questions:
-Yes, the pre-requisites are that you need to be rooted, and have a custom recovery installed on your phone.. and an sdcard. You can do it on your rooted GB phone, but you cannot restore a GB backup while you are on ICS (for the only way to have the option to return to GB from ICS, you need to look here and here - but some will say there's no reason to go back to GB.. maybe nostalgia )
-A backup will backup your current system, data, and sometimes cache - and it will usually make a new folder, named by date, with a few .tar files inside of a "clockworkmod" folder on your sdcard. And yes, those are what you restore (when restoring, you choose the backup by date/folder name).
-No, you can not restore a GB backup from Numa (see above comments.. again) - also see here for a note on compatibly between different custom recovery options (might be easiest/safest to use BMM, I think you can flash all ROMs with that now..)
So if I understand all that correctly, here is my summary of steps to install Numa. Appreciate if you can correct my steps in-line if I am wrong. [Current state of my phone: Atrix2 on stock GB (AT&T). Only thing I have done is uninstalled/removed unwanted apps.]
Steps:
1. First get on ICS leak-1 following Jim thread. [OR OTA to the official/final ICS. But if I do this, I lose the option to return to GB? or will I loose that ability regardless since Numa itself is based on final ICS OTA?]
2. Install CWM A2 bootstrap recover from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19355021&postcount=1
(No point taking a backup now I suppose since going back to GB isn't an option after Numa.)
3. Then follow the install instructions under the Numa Rom thread.
4. Once I have Numa up & running, I suppose I am limited to putting only those ICS/JB based roms that don't require me to be on leak-1?
On a side note, I hate how they have removed the "contacts" tab, "Only show contacts with phone number" option etc... from the Dialer app in ICS and replaced it with the People thingy . I like GB dialer. Also, In ICS they seem to have removed the data saver option that was available in GB.
Thx

If you uninstalled any stock apps, the installation of the update will probably fail, and you will either need to fix your system by replacing everything (very carefully).. or just FXZ back to stock GB<--post is a bit out-dated. [Yes, if you ota to final ICS, you can not return to GB ever. It doesn't matter what the ROM you flash is based on, they basically only change your /system partition (and data) - the problem is the new bootloader in final ICS.
Make a full backup of your stock ICS if you want to go back to it (see below - probably best to use BMM to backup)
2. Install CWM A2 bootstrap recover from here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=19355021&postcount=1
(No point taking a backup now I suppose since going back to GB isn't an option after Numa.)
You could use that, or BootMenu Manager (I heard that it works to flash roms now - it used to not - and I personally have not tested it recently.. so, not sure - and we also have Safestrap, but not sure of the status on that - still a wip, I think). Either way, you will loose it once you flash Numa... you will need to reinstall it to flash a different rom or make a backup (I recommend using BMM to make a backup since it's compatible with the CM10-based recovery, and since it is easy to uninstall)
3. Then follow the install instructions under the Numa Rom thread.
Yup.. maybe a bit outdated also, but wipe data/factory reset, dalvik-cache maybe, then install zip..
4. Once I have Numa up & running, I suppose I am limited to putting only those ICS/JB based roms that don't require me to be on leak-1?
You can put any ICS/JB rom available for our phone, if you wish - or restore the backup you made of stock ICS before installing Numa
On a side note, I hate how they have removed the "contacts" tab, "Only show contacts with phone number" option etc... from the Dialer app in ICS and replaced it with the People thingy . I like GB dialer. Also, In ICS they seem to have removed the data saver option that was available in GB.
There are other ways to get from dialer to contacts in ICS (underneath the favorites tab, scroll down.. or is that only jb?)
Thx
No prob. Good luck.

[Q] How do I install the new ics mod?

Hello everyone,
I'd like to express my gratitude to the developers for their great work to keep this phone working..
I have a couple of questions and would appreciate all the help I can get to help me with the phone.
I had installed CM7 on my phone for 4 months during which it kept rebooting and giving me a lot of trouble, so I installed the russian stock sbf (since it has arabic) two days ago and it works great and fast, except for one thing: the battery drains extremely fast. Now, I consider installing the new ics recently posted here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069578
My questions:
1- The russian stock has everything I need and is fast and stable, so I do not want to go back to CM7 which keeps rebooting and wouldn't recognize my sd at times. Is there anyway I can improve battery life on it?
2- Would you please post how I can install the new ics in that link? Please be as specific as possible..
3- How do I clean my sd card? which folders should I not tamper with? it looks messy with all the different zips and folders..
Thank you all.. Happy new year
1 download rom
2 (if you have xt720 not motoroi)
3 in open recovery(in update)flash rom,gaaps and bootfix)
Got it
It took me a while and some research to apply it.. Thanks for your reply.. I will try to post the steps I did so that people like me won't have the problems I had.. I needed to refresh my memory to remember what I did when I first rooted the phone and installed 7.2 a while ago..
BTW.. I couldn't find the keyboard.. the only/default input is the google voice typing!! isn't there an android keyboard for this mod? or do I have to install one from the market<-----------which will mean a lot of pain to sign into my google account then searching for a keyboard using voice typing
Update:
I was able to find an apk for a trial of swiftkeyboard, so I installed it and installed a keyboard from google play and everything is working fine.. I love this mod, it's fast and still no problems; except for video recording (which I don't use) and the voice search which recognizes the commands but does not do anything else..
You can usually use the same steps as other roms:
Make sure you have OpenRecovery. See the OpenRecovery thread with detailed instructions.
Download rom zip file and copy into /sdcard/OpenRecovery/updates
Turn off device
Hold power and volume up to enter recovery. (You should see a white box with an arrow coming out of it going into a phone. If you see a yellow triangle, something went wrong.)
Go to Apply Update (use the volume keys to move up/down and camera key to select)
Pick the rom (and in this case, then pick the bootfix and gapps)
Go Back to main menu
Now do three wipes: There's three wipe options (dalvik, cache, and user data). Most mod makers recommend wiping all of these, but when you wipe user data, you lose everything you stored on the phone (but not sd card). So your game highscores, sms messages (backup app), etc...
Reboot system

NO!!!!
You have a motorio xt720.
When you flash cm9 you should not flash bootfix it is the milestone xt720 im just guessing you might have flash are bootfix that why you dont have 3g.

The bootfix in general is a patch to be applied when a ROM was developed for one version of a model of phone, but because two phones are so similar, it can be used on other versions of the same model of phone, with a few tweaks. The bootfix performs those tweaks. If you were to have a Motoroi and you actually applied the bootfix also, I mean logically it wouldn't think it would be harmful (just redundant), but I don't know enough about how the patching process works to accurately predict that. If you did this and you were experiencing issues, back up your data and do it over, without applying the bootfix.
In specific to the XT720, there are two versions of this model: the Motoroi and the Milestone. There are ROMs that were developed for the Motoroi that actually work on the Milestone also, with a few tweaks. The bootfix patch includes those tweaks. It fixes things like rotation issues, etc. If you didn't apply the bootfix and you have a Milestone, you would absolutely run into issues. Redo it, applying the bootfix.
Scenario 1:
You want to load a ROM that was developed for Motoroi users. You have a Motoroi. You would simply install the ROM, Gapps if you wish, and do your wipes. You should be good to go.
Scenario 2:
You want to load a ROM that was developed for Motoroi users. You have a Milestone. You would intstall the ROM, Gapps if you wish, AND install the bootfix patch, then do your wipes. This would fix any incompatibility issues between Motoroi and Milestone.
All of the ROMs posted in the dev forum are very clear in instructions (and plenty of discussion afterward in replies to the thread) as to whether or not a bootfix needs to be applied. Of course, you need to determine what kind of XT720 you have, in order to make a decision as to which instructions you will follow.
That's my "non-technical" answer!
