[?] Best WP7 currently 12-17-11 - General Questions and Answers

Hello, I know this is a opinionated thread but I'm currently debating on getting a WP7. I wanted to know what people consider the best WP7 on the market. I know most of them have similar internals and specs but what puts one over another in quality.
What things could I do with WP7? I know about chevron but if I do that what are my benefits outside of homebrew?
Would you guys recommend current generation WP7 or previous generation with Mango update?
I want to broaden my horizons and not just be a stuck to one of os.
Thank you,
Lilhugo

I don't know much about wp7 but the lumia and N9 from Nokia are supposed to be pretty good (pricey though). From what I here the only thing WP7 lacks is a large number of apps and the ability to customize to the degree that Android can. I have heard good things about the HTC Titan, and that can be had for cheaper than the Nokias.

HTC HD7S and Samsung Focus S

Thanks for the responses guys. Any reason why to get the hd7s or focus s as opposed to the newer lumia?
Anyone else know the benefits to jailbreak a wp7?

There has to be rumors of high spec models comming to us through forums I mean are there certain models the devs are watching and waiting for

It would say the Motorola Xoom because it has a unlockable bootloader.
See here.

Dave
Thanks for the reply I have now looked into it and agree this isn't a bad model ok there may be better that come out over the year but the early releases are usually the most modified thanks again shaun

Oh ok, thank you very much

Once the sensations bootloader is unlocked will anyone port WP7 Mango?

Would be super cool if people would support this phone like the HD2 (being able to run android and WM6.5/7). Just throwing it out there... Would have bought a HD7 but waiting for the software to do a little catch up. Thinking when mango is released it will be that point where it had matured and everyone would be content using it day to day.

That would be cool.
I like WM 2003 SE.
i would be interested in a dual boot if possible for sure
Would be cool, but probably won't happen because of the massive undertaking that would have to happen. Wp7 doesn't even have drivers for dual core phones..the drivers is what would make the whole thing a headache

No and No.
If you want a wm phone why buy an android? I don't get it..

Montagues and Capulets here.
Do not bother me with "windows" talk.
We are Android.

When bootloader unlock comes I just want a GB Vanilla Rom or a Faster Sense Rom. I'm not a fan of WM7. Had the Focus and it sucked. I don't think ill ever leave android.

Should have got an HD7...not a bad phone for what it is.

Launcher 7 and android is a match made. There's plenty of apps that mimic wp7 looks.

I would totally be up for that! I really like both operating systems. If the browser were just better, or there were alternative browsers that were worthwhile on WP7, I might still be using the HD7. Right up until I ended up with a Sensation.

Mango does support dual-core. the lastest spec sheet for upcoming wp7 devices says so. so the driver headache is not there...
Windows is disgustingly terrible . Why ruin an Android device with such blasphemy ?

I wouldn't go that far...
And unless they are using this exact chipset, yes drivers are still a problem, dual core optimized or not

I wouldn't mind dual-booting both. WP7 is a great mobile OS.
I don't mind to try wp7. See what's the differences.

Google buying Motorola

http://googleblog.blogspot.com/2011/08/supercharging-android-google-to-acquire.html?m=1
Wow
Does this increase the possibility of Motorola making the next Nexus phone after Prime?
not sure what the relevance to the HTC sensation this has to be fair...
I just read this on CNN.com. Although it doesn't really have anything to do with HTC, it's still a very interesting piece of tech news. We don't know how this will affect Motorola's practices, but it's likely that bootloaders will be unlocked and Google will release future reference phones (Nexus) through the Motorola brand.
I'll be keeping an eye on further developments. Could there be a Motorola in my future?
Quite sure that won't change much in relation to OEMs. It's a defensive move (17k patents).
As long as they don't shut Moto Down like apple did Lala... I dought they will anyway but u don't know

In all honesty,i don't even have a Sensation. I have the Evo 3d. I read it in the 3d general forum.
Because our phones are so similar I spend a lot of time reading about the awesome stuff your devs are doing. I was only trying to let you know whats up with Android.
Btw.. you all have a Beautiful work of art in your hands. The Sensation looks like a wonderful device. I hope the development guys go back and forth between the sensation and 3d . Maybe the answers to any flaws in the devices can be worked out together ..(ie touchscreen).

This has potential to be the best thing that has happened to us consumers using Motorola phones, and those planning to use Motorola devices in the future.

Wow...this is surprising and came from no where. I don't know how much the microsoft-nokia alliance played a part in this acquisition.

Motorola needed this for their phones.
There was quite a bit of mention of 'supercharge' in larry's blog post lol.

[Q][idea] MeeGo port

it's already been done on several phones, the normal desire, the desire hd, nexus one...
So maybe it's also possible on the desire S?
I saw in a video a guy with his DHD, make the boot.img from meego launch over adb in bootloader...
Sent from my HTC Desire S using XDA App
I don't like MeeGo, it's on one phone, and no news on future handsets. BUT, the only way this can be done is through a DHD port or an HD2 port.
Jup. Thats true, i got meego and ubuntu running on my friend his DHD. But when i tried it at my DS, i got stuck at the white htc screen. I'll run it again tomorrow or wednesday, with a logcat.

I don't think they support other architectures then Intel yet. But if they do this would be a nice project
Found this interesting wiki...

EDIT:
Even a porting guide is available :')

What do you want it ported ? Only asking, not trying to be rude, i would love to help. What does it offer above android or other operating systems ?

Well, i think there are several reasons.
1. To show what the Desire S is capable of, against other 'big' phones like the Desire, DHD, HD2 and nexus
2. There are now many many roms you can use for Android, it starts to bore a little, Meego is a exciting new challenge
3. Meego isnt that big yet, and has a lot of oppertunitys.
4. And so on...
