[Q][idea] MeeGo port - HTC Desire S

it's already been done on several phones, the normal desire, the desire hd, nexus one...
So maybe it's also possible on the desire S?

I saw in a video a guy with his DHD, make the boot.img from meego launch over adb in bootloader...

I don't like MeeGo, it's on one phone, and no news on future handsets. BUT, the only way this can be done is through a DHD port or an HD2 port.

Jup. Thats true, i got meego and ubuntu running on my friend his DHD. But when i tried it at my DS, i got stuck at the white htc screen. I'll run it again tomorrow or wednesday, with a logcat.

I don't think they support other architectures then Intel yet. But if they do this would be a nice project

Found this interesting wiki...

EDIT:
Even a porting guide is available :')

What do you want it ported ? Only asking, not trying to be rude, i would love to help. What does it offer above android or other operating systems ?

Well, i think there are several reasons.
1. To show what the Desire S is capable of, against other 'big' phones like the Desire, DHD, HD2 and nexus
2. There are now many many roms you can use for Android, it starts to bore a little, Meego is a exciting new challenge
3. Meego isnt that big yet, and has a lot of oppertunitys.
4. And so on...

W7 on inspire 4g

I saw HD2 running Android and w7. So maybe we can have w7 OS run on inspire too. I am not a dev so I can't port OS to inspire but it would be nice to see some devs might be interested in it. Again just a thought.

Who knows it might be possible. But answer me this. Why not just get a wm7 phone? Ive seen people asking about this and ios being put on an andriod phone. Why not just get the the operating systems respective phone?

Sure we all can buy respected OS phones but if you can kill two birds with one stone then.... We all flash diff roms every day so w7 is just another Rom.

While I agree I'm guilty of flashing a new Rom just about everyday but at the core of all Roms its still gb or froyo. Wp7 is a new os altogether. Maybe I just dont understand the desire to have it on this phone unless you like the specs of this phone over regular wm 7 phones perhaps.

There's a reason why you see an "Android Development" section in almost all native Windows Mobile phone forums. Windows Mobile seems nice, but eventually you realize that you bought the wrong phone.
You don't see a "Windows Mobile Development" section in any native Android phone forum do you?

Lol'd at your comment.
In my opinion, Android OS is far better than W7 OS. Friends of mine that have a W7 phone, complain that it slows down and often needs a reboot.

You Flash New Roms because each New Rom is almost like getting a brand new phone every single time.
I love to Flash New Roms. I've tried just about every single android sd & nand Rom that is out there... When I heard I could flash WP7 OS to my HD2 I just had to do it! The temptation for another New, Uncharted, Undiscovered Rom was simply unbearable. If someone ports WP7 for the Inspire people will Flash it. My Roommate will be the first.

Once the sensations bootloader is unlocked will anyone port WP7 Mango?

Would be super cool if people would support this phone like the HD2 (being able to run android and WM6.5/7). Just throwing it out there... Would have bought a HD7 but waiting for the software to do a little catch up. Thinking when mango is released it will be that point where it had matured and everyone would be content using it day to day.

That would be cool.
I like WM 2003 SE.
i would be interested in a dual boot if possible for sure
Would be cool, but probably won't happen because of the massive undertaking that would have to happen. Wp7 doesn't even have drivers for dual core phones..the drivers is what would make the whole thing a headache

When bootloader unlock comes I just want a GB Vanilla Rom or a Faster Sense Rom. I'm not a fan of WM7. Had the Focus and it sucked. I don't think ill ever leave android.

I would totally be up for that! I really like both operating systems. If the browser were just better, or there were alternative browsers that were worthwhile on WP7, I might still be using the HD7. Right up until I ended up with a Sensation.

Mango does support dual-core. the lastest spec sheet for upcoming wp7 devices says so. so the driver headache is not there...

And unless they are using this exact chipset, yes drivers are still a problem, dual core optimized or not

I wouldn't mind dual-booting both. WP7 is a great mobile OS.
I don't mind to try wp7. See what's the differences.

Might as well install Mango on it.
having (dual-booting) MANGO on a desire s would be great but,
a) Not many people here are interested
b) Even if people are interested, no one is skilled enough to do it
c) It's not completely legal to port microsoft stuff. It's not open source like android.
don't think it can be done, and comming from a windows phone I don't hope it can
maybe getting HTC Surround these days just because of its hardware
[its gonna be my new useless media phone i guess ]
anw.. please don't let any1 to port windows on our beautiful device..

Even if someone did port, who cares? It's not like there's any demand for it.
On the flipside, I wouldn't mind vice-versa as I have alway found the Windows HTC models looked better than the Android ones imo.
Installing windows mobile on a perfectly good DS should be a punishable offence.
i have used my friend's windows phone 7 device(before i started using custom roms) for 5-10mins(i know that its very brief) & i seemed to like it a quite a bit, mostly because it seemed faster (when i was on stock ROM)
is there something im missing?or is it just that the brief time i spent fiddling with the phone not enough to tell me enough about the device?
(im just curious )

I tried it too at the phone store. I will agree its quite good. Fast and responsive. But it doesn't quite still well with me like the way Android does.

WebOS is Open Source Now, Any chance to port it to Sensation?

I wish there is a working webOS in my sensation. Anyone with me?
I don't see why someone would do that since ICS is coming
Yeah, but we'd like the freedom to choose
I thought the same thing when I heard Web OS was going open source. I guess it could be posible sicne its linux based and no licensing issues, correct me if I'm wrong. The only thing stoping it is the lack of developers that have a Sensation and would want to spend the time porting it. Not likely in my honest opinion.

I'm sure we'll see it pop up for Android phones eventually.
I'd like to see a merging of the two. There's some things that WebOS does better than Android, and vice versa. I think a "WebDroid" project would be nifty.
Its all dependant on how much they choose to "open". If its just the kernel it won't help much.

Since they announced it as Open source I assume it will be everything that's necessary for OEM's to develop this OS on their respective devices.

I don't see a place for an open source WebOS. There's already a linux based open source mobile smartphone OS thats being used by most of the market; Android. It wouldn't make sense to suddenly drop Android for WebOS, or even to just sell them side by side, there's just no need.
I don't see a port happening, possible, but doubtful that anyone will have the time to do it.

WebOS rivals iOS in sheer polish and usability IMO, if it wasn't for the poor hardware and devices that Palm made, I'm sure it would have done a lot better. It would be nice to have dual boot ICS and WebOS on the Sensation
I would like to see webOS run on sensation . if possible we can do it with dual boot between webOS and android that will be super awesome!

And when ICS comes out, which one are you going to boot into the most on?
Droid life and the verge published an article stating that the evo 3d already has a booting web os 3.0, and has for months. Although it is hacked together and still unfinished this suggests that the sensation could get it, given the devices similarities, with some dev willing to do it.

[Q] is it possibal to port nokia lumia to desire

Hi all,
wanted to know is it possible to port nokia lumia to our desire s?
Nope, windows phone is closed source so it wouldn't be 100% legal to do a port.
Legality is the least of the problems when trying to port a different OS from a phone with different HW. Most likely - not going to happen.
Thats the thing I miss most about my old HTC HD2, it could run windows 6.5-WP7 and android, or you could dual boot it with android and windows. Oh how I miss that phone, worst thing I did was sell it.
It also couldn't run any ROM properly and without bugs since Froyo.
Thanks to all... Just tried luncher7 it is quite good..
