Does anyone know where I can get a stock recovery image for a nexus s i9020a?
I tried the file from the large sticky post with all the rooms but it only gives me an error in clockwork mod recovery when I try to restore to that file.
I also tried installing that file by manually selecting the zip but that just put it in a boot loop and deleted cwr. I put cwr back on and that is where I am at now. Anyone know why the file isn't working or can link me to a nandroid for i9020a that will work with clockwork recovery?
Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

wipe data and cache with cwm, flash the rom, flash the stock recovery image, and lock the bootloader. you might have to update to 2.3.4 manually though, but everything is returned to stock
You say flash the rom then flash the stock recovery image. What is the first rom I'm flashing?
And a step by step:
Go to clm, wipe data,
wipe catch
(what do you mean by flash rom)
Install the stock firmware
Is this ALL done in clockwork?

I can't give you exact instructions cause i'm relatively new to this so you'll have to read a guide or something. i'm pretty sure that it's all explained in the thread that I linked you to.
here's what I did, but you might want to double check.
-open clockwork recovery (you might have to re-flash it through fastboot)
-wipe data, and then wipe cache
-put the zip downloaded from the thread that I linked you to on the root of the sd card
-open clockwork recovery again
-install zip from sd > let me choose zip (or something) > let the zip install
-flash the stock recovery image through fastboot
-lock the bootloader through fastboot
done. then just download the OTA update for 2.3.4 and you'll be good as new
I tried to use the superboot method for 2.3.4 as I have in the past, and did it, but now my phone gets stuck on the Google screen with the unlock symbol. I can boot into Bootloader Mode, but I have to do a battery pull to get off the Google screen. I need help ASAP.
I have a Mac with Fastboot installed
I need to get fresh 2.3.4, no root
I have the stock recovery
Try using oneclick.

That's not enough information. Plus I don't care about root. I just need a working phone at this point
Download both cwm recovery and a full rom for your device (see sticky in general forums for the rom)
Flash cwm recovery via fastboot
Boot into recovery
Factory/data reset
Wipe dalvik cache
Mounts&Storage > format /system (should be enough, if not format everything there is)
Mounts&Storage > mount /sdcard
Mounts&Storage > Mount USB storage
Copy rom on the sdcard
Install rom via recovery (install zip from sdcard)
If you get a signature error deactivate the sig check in recovery (install zip from sdcard menu, IIRC not sure, but it's there somewhere)

Afterwards you'll have a stock rom with stock recovery, unrooted.
okay 1.2 branch of Gtablet loaded cwm v3028 and cm7.1 Rc no problems also did the partition and permissions. Then I decided to push it and loaded vegan 7.0 over the top of CM7.1 RC. So I went back into cwm and cleared all the flash and loaded the rom.
now im stuck in a loop where it boots and goes directly into the recovery mode. the recovery mode has all the commands. So here are the things I have tried.
1. wipe data/factory reset
2.wipe cache partition
3. I have repartitioned sd card and wipe dalvik cache
So any ideas?
I have searched the forum but didnt find any answer
Thanks
well from my experience, when this happens i have nvflash back to stock.. if you go to install zip from the SDcard and there are no directories it didnt flash properly... NVflash back to stock then flash the rom... that always worked for me...
same
I have the same prob. Any solutions?

What recovery are you using? What phone? What ROM? Can't be too helpful without some information.

Can you describe what options are in your recovery menu? The color of the text? Any images that appear on the screen? The more information you provide, the more likely it will be that we'll be able to help you out.

I would recommend using one of IlluminatedOne's OneClick Stock GB packages: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1300843
Flash one with the gb bootloaders and then flash the kernel with CWM and then put the rom you want on your sd card and then flash it.

thanks alot it worked
I have clockworkmod recovery installed and rooted. It's been a few months since I rooted, and can't remember exactly what I did, but OTA updates stopped working. Hence, I am still on gingerbread.
Trying to flash a custom rom now, CM9. I tried the rom manager method several times, found out that wasn't recommended, and then tried the recovery method.
The same thing happens either way: it boots into CM9, but the boot animation keeps playing.
With the rom manager method, I tried wiping nothing, then tried wiping dalvik only, then tried... whatever the other option was, wipe cache and data?
With CMW recovery I downloaded CM9 zip and the appropriate GAPPS, moved onto the internal SD card, booted into recovery mode Wipe data/factory reset, then Wipe cache partition, then install both.
I'm able to restore from backup each time, but this is annoying.
Thank you
1. Install ICS Radio (UCLF6)
2. Wipe Data/Factory Reset
3. Format /System
4. Install CM9.zip
5. Install Gapps.zip
6. Wipe Cache/Dalvik
7. Reboot
:good:

So "UCLF6" appears to be rom that is similar to stock, I'm guessing the idea here is that I'm resetting the phone but retaining root, the idea being that something on my phone is messed up and preventing CM9 from booting but doesn't prevent the current rom from booting?
Two other questions
1. Won't format/system wipe out all my backups in addition to my data?
2. Have you had or seen this problem before? I'm hesitant to commit myself to something, especially with no backups, if it's just a theoretical fix. I do appreciate it either way.
UCLF6 is an ICS modem/radio you need if you're coming from gb.
If you back up though CWM you can restore again later if you want.
Formatting /system will delete the operating system.
Formatting /data will delete your apps/settings/wallpaper etc...

I had a similar boot animation loop when I went from stock GB to stock ICS. What seemed to fix it was updating my CWM from 5.0.2.6 (non-touch) to 5.5.0.4 (touch). (BTW, I couldn't find an advantage of stock ICS over stock GB. I have since put on CM9 which I'm liking).

Still got the boot loop.
When I did the "Wipe data/factory reset" I did get an error message during one of the processes"
"Error mounting sdcard/.android_secure!
Skipping format"
I had a boot loop problem when I first tried to flash JB. I went from GB to ICS with a custom rom a few months back, but I couldn't get any of the new JB roms to work. I ended up having to upgrade my CWM to the touch version in order to get JB flash to work. Also, a tip-- the boot animation will take a minute or two even when it is working. Don't assume it is still a problem if you see it more than once.
