[Q] Nexus S not turning on anymore - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I don't know what could have caused that.
All I did was flash a stock GRK39F.zip, then flash the Google OTA. After this finished I restored /data from my other ICS install, then flash a new kernel (GLaDoS-bfs-2.0).
Now my phone doesn't want to turn on anymore and its battery is not empty.
What should I do now? Any advices?

If you pull the battery and replace it try getting into recovery again. If you can get back into recovery I would say try again. Maybe don't flash the kernel this time.

It doesn't turn on. If I just could get into the bootloader it would be fine. I'd flash it via fastboot. But it doesn't even vibrate and the screen also doesn't turn on at all.
Pulling the battery won't help there.

why did you flashed this kernel on the ICS rom...?
ICS got the real 3.0 kernel, the previous kernele were not 3.0
Dont know if it is 100% the reason, but this was a bit "stupid" to do this...

This wasn't a stupid idea, as the kernel is based off the new 3.0 source and I was running it before. I just ****ed my Launcher2.apk, that's why I wanted to re-flash ICS.
So it's not the problem.

The kernel should not have done anything in regards to the bootloader. I would plug in your phone (to ensure your battery isn't dead) then try and get into recovery.
If that doesn't work then sorry I have no clue.

This helped. I didn't get into the bootloader, but it just booted completely fine.
This can be marked as solved I believe.

HTC sensation wont boot HELP!

My Htc sensation 4g is rooted and i have a Rom on it. I have been using it for a while now. But just recently i wanted a new ROM and i saw an ICS one. I read that i needed to update the firmware first before installing the ROM. I tried to install the firmware via H-BOOT but i dont think it worked and so i flashed the ROM and it wouldnt boot. I went back into recovery so i could restore to the previous ROM and it worked but one thing changed and that was on the H-BOOT and it said ****LOCKED****. Everything was fine until i tried to fix it and so i tried to fix it by downloading the firmware again and try to update it again. When i did this it seemed to update fine. Then i rebooted my phone as it prompted and then all of the suuden it turned off and i tried to turn it back on but it wouldnt work. It has not been able to turn on sense then. Even when i plug it up the charger it still doesnt do anything. PLEASE HELP ME ASAP!!! Comment below with suggestions.

well,, sorry to say,
but that seems a brick.
make sure your battery is full
try to
pull battery - boot. if that doesnt work
pull battery - hold down volume down and power, if that doesnt work,
then its probebly bricked..
the only thing that can fix that is returning it to HTC
simply tell them you had a OTA and when it was done it wouldnt boot up again.
dont say it was rooted or you know the site XDA
dont say you had hacked software on it

Help! boot loop

ok so i rooted a few weeks ago and downloaded the usual apps. super user titanium back up and clock work mod. tried to flash a rom with clock work mod and got the e:signature verification failure message. found a post for a kernal that made clock work mod actually work so i tried to flash a rom. zSimplyAOKPV5_Dark to be exact. now it sticks on boot screen. i have searched for hours and cannot find a way to fix my problem. its my first rooted android and first attempted rom flash and i botched it right off the rip. please help?
Depending on what you did beforehand, you have some options.
If you have backed everything up previously, just flash back to stock with one of the one-click stock roms in the Development section (they're in a sticky).
If you haven't backed everything up, try holding V+/V-/power until it reboots. If it doesn't take you to recovery, you can try to flash a kernel (most likely one that would match the version of android/rom you were running prior to this flash) and see if it lets you into recovery. You'll have to flash it with either Odin or Heimdall, after rebooting into download mode (power off, hold V+/V-, insert USB).
If that doesn't work, though, the stock flashing would probably be your best and/or only bet.
it wont allow me into recovery though i can get to download mode by pulling the battery and pressing just the volume +- and plugging in the usb. i was trying to flash an ics slim rom. thanks for your very speedy response.
i have now tried to flash a stock rom however it is not working from there even with the stock kernal. now it is hanging on the at&t screen.
ok i got it. seems the kernal i flashed to help cwd work properly was the culprit. now i dont know how im going to flash this ics rom im looking at without it.

Flash corn kernel if you have stock gingerbread
Sent from my SGH-I897
The utility in my signature can help you flash the Corn Kernel so that you will have CWM.
I have corn kernal and odin 3 on the computer at home. Ill do that tonight. Any suggestions on a good stable rom for a noob? Preferably ics. I hated posting for fear of being flamed as a noob. My wife keeps making fun of me for it so I kinda have to get it done. I want to fix hers also. Its a great little phone it just seem a bit buggy to me. Very laggy. Thanks for all the help.

Maybe start with a KK4 based rom such as Legend and then move up to ICS after that. I only say that because there is a bug in ICS that could render your internal SD unusable. It's rare, but when it happens you will not be happy.
Still unable to get corn kernal to flash. I've tried a few of your guys fixes but I'm gonna have to get some other updates to my computer first.

[Q] - Ruined for all other ROMs?

So I have a little bit of a strange issue.
I had flashed the AOKP Milestone 5 on my TF, and although I managed to fix the CWM bootloop, it doesn't appear I'm able to install any other ROM.
Since I've flashed it, any other ROM I attempt to flash either fails to complete it's first boot (watched a few different ones try for hours yesterday) or wifi will not turn on. The wifi issue is also present in my backup from stock.
Perhaps for the ROMs that are booting for me there is a different kernel I may have better luck with? Thoughts, anyone?

What recovery are you using? might pay to try another (Recommended: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1759452)
You may want to obtain a kernel compatible with the ROM you want to try and flash both the ROM and kernel at the same time. The wrong kernel could definitely cause both the booting problems and the wifi not turning on.
I think about a kernel problem too, go to your ROM thread and you'll see the best kernel to flash with it...

Firmware question after bad flash

So I had a completely stock Galaxy s 4g, on gingerbread. I had the bright idea of rooting to try out different builds. I was in the middle of flashing when I noticed that what I was flashing was for the Vibrant. Well, it was either let it flash with that or stop the flash, so I stopped it. After searching for hours, I couldn't find a working link for a download to flash a custom build. I was able to find a "stock" flash, but for some reason I don't think it's right. I have problems with low call volume now and have to power the phone off and on to fix it temporarily. Everything else works fine, so far. Another thing I noticed is everyone shows firmware of 2.3.6, mine says 2.3.4????? Here's my info: sigh-t959v, baseband T959VUVKG4, kernel 2.6.35.7-t959vuvkg4-cl385158, build gingerbread.vuvkg4.
Any thoughts on what I should do?
Thanks in advance
This thread has heimdall one clicks that will get you back to stock kj6. Remember to flash once then after booting until you hear the t-mo jingle pull battery and put it back in download mode and check the flash bootloaders and flash it again.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498
If you want root in the second post is a one click created by me. You can flash it instead of the plain stock one by bhundeven. But you need to flash the bootloaders to make sure you get rid of all the vibrant stuff.
Ok, thanks a lot. I will flash your build tomorrow when I get home from work. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again.
So I flashed your build and everythingis working great, even seems to be running faster. However, the wifi says "error" when I try and activate it. Is that a rom problem? Should I start over and try again?
It is because the kernel uses a different module then what is in the rom itself. That is why it is suppose to be used as a stepping stone to flash to a different rom.
Gotcha.

TF700 Won't Boot OS - Can still boot recovery.

Hi all,
I was given the TF700 by my grandma as she no longer used it and I've been trying to solve the issue of it being so sluggish etc, so I've managed to unlock the bootloader, flash a custom ROM however, since I tried to flash the KatKiss ROM, the WiFi refuses to work. Every ROM after that has had no WiFi either. I tried to flash back to stock, as was suggested to see if that would fix the WiFi issues, to see if that would help, however now it won't boot past the boot animation - no matter what ROM I try and use.
I'm refusing to give up on this guy as it has the potential to be an amazing tablet... Y'know, when I can actually get it to turn on.
I've checked and I'm on the latest bootloader (US_epad-10.6.1.14.10-20130601 - I'm hoping that's right?)
Does anybody have any suggestions? I can successfully boot into Kang TWRP and flash things via recovery, but I can't get any ROM to boot past the boot-animation. I don't want to get rid of the tablet, but I'm unsure of what to try next. As I can still get it powered on and into bootloader/TWRP, I figure there has to be some kind of hope. Have I missed off any details that may be needed?
If anyone could help me out, I'd be eternally grateful!

It sounds as if you are not formatting properly between flashing roms.
Try that first: Wipe > Format data > type yes
let it finish, the process takes a good hour. Then convert /data to f2fs
https://forum.xda-developers.com/tr.../guide-convert-data-to-f2fs-twrp-2-8-t3073471
Flash the rom and gapps.
I bet it'll boot this time

Thank you so much! I'd been formatting but maybe not properly.
I'll give it a go once it has some charge in it - it's been trying to boot for about 7 or so hours now. I'll report back with anything if it helps.
So, I've managed to get the tablet to boot - but I'm still stuck with no working WiFi. It just greys out and says disabled. Bluetooth seems to work, but, I can't even connect to my phone to use it's data connection via Bluetooth tethering. I managed to get it to boot on KatKiss 7.1 - any ideas on the WiFi issue? Is there a flashable zip to fix WiFi drivers?

Nope, the rom should have everything you need. Don't know man - this is pretty unusual. You probably should flash it back to stock to have a point of reference.
If wifi still won't work on stock it's gotta be hardware.
Flash the stock blob in fastboot and then start from scratch:

Thanks for the link, but the official ASUS link in the post you've linked to is dead :/ I'll have a look after work tonight and see if I can find it anywhere else and whether I can get it working or not!

I tried all of the above steps and re-flashed KatKiss to find that the WiFi still did not want to work, which resulted in not being able to get past the setup wizard. I'm not sure what to try next, but at least it was worth a shot. Thank you for your help!
Well - did wifi work on stock?
You know about this bug right? From the OP:
Note that current gapps setup wizard will crash as it is not fully compatible with android 7.1.2 (KatKiss >= 022)
unless you turn on wifi manually after the language selection in the initial setup.
(if you don't have a dock, use the extra wifi button in the navbar)

Just seen this! Yeah, the WiFi worked fine on stock, but any custom ROM I tried had the same issue, so I'm not 100% sure what caused it. I sold the tab on after flashing it back to stock, though.
Thank you for your help though!
