What kind of 4G support does the slide has? - T-Mobile myTouch 4G Slide

One of the things that got me into getting this phone was the 4G speed. I though it would have the 21mbps download speeds as some websites claimed. However I go to the tmobile website and it says it only supports the 14mbps download speed. Isn't it ridiculous that it has the 14mbps speed instead of the new 21mbps speed! And according to qualcom processor specs the phone can support max of 28mbps download speed on mobile network

You are constrained by what speed the network provider will let you go, the limits set in the build.prop file, and how fast the device can actually go.
The slowest of those 3 things determines your top speed.
If I am missing anything, please someone correct me.

I understand but my point is that they should've made the device to top speeds of 21mbps. And even though it supports of max 14 mbps we never see anything close to 14, the max I've gotten is 8

I am pretty sure it is 21mbps but the wierd thing is the sensation and this phone have the same cpu yet the sensation is listed as 14mbps on gsmarena.

I haven't really gotten around to speed testing yet, been pretty busy with other stuff.
How or what did you use to get an accurate speed reading, what was your procedure?
( I just wanted to throw that out there, to let people know who may not, and make sure I wasn't missing anything - i'm always looking for an opportunity to be educated )

I use Speed test. When I'm in El Paso, we are supposed to have 4g. Not very fast, usually stick to wifi. Son uses Verizon and it flies.

I use speedtest.net app I went to a tmo store and played with the amazed 4G and ran speedtest app on both the mytouch 4G slide and the amazed. My mytouch got 7mbps down and the amazed got 18mbps down. More than double of what I got.
And really the cpu is the same on both phone. One is underclocked (the mytouch slide) and one is clocked at 1.5 ghz (the amaze).

Yep. That test was taken while at a stoplight on a main highway. There were no wifi networks in range, so there may have been less interference. It is not unusual for me to get 3-5Mbit down pretty much anywhere with good signal. The JK4 modem has really shone for me.
I thought my speed increased. But compared to most of u here mine are measly at about 1250 mbps down and 1150 mbps up @ Atlanta, GA.
Highest ever I got were like 2 Mbps down and 1.5 Mbps up.
With most of these ported i9000 roms, i9000 kernel/modem combos 3mb up/1.5mb down is pretty common. Depending on location, data traffic, oc/uv settings, results may vary. With the stock captivate kernel/modem combos 1.5mb up/.3mb down is more realistic (again, many variables can influence this)
There are, however, several stock captivate kernels with voodoo, speedmod, ulf, oclf options baked in that will get you much higher download speeds, but the upload speeds I just can't seem to improve. 2.8-3mb up/.5mb down
If you use AT&T Captivate firmware (and Modem), your HSUPA will be disabled and your upload speed will be capped around 300kbps. The only way to break that barrier is to flash non-AT&T modem, e.g. i9000 or Canadian firmware.
AT&T openly admits that HSUPA features are disable on all AT&T 3G phones except iPhones.

AT&T is full of crap!!!
Wait till more than one phone is connected to the lte network and see what happens. I priced out moving my 4 lines over to verizon a few months ago, and it would have cost me $100 more per month.
I see 2.5-3.5 down and usually around 1.3 up. I'm more than happy about that. Most I've ever seen down is about 5, best upload was over 3.
I understand your point, but at least you can see that Verizon is not capping the upload speeds of TB and giving preference to iCrap users.
How can this be true? The picture clearly shows the Inspire 4G in Edge but the captions for the photo say the phone was in HSPA+?
I'm not saying that any 4G phone on AT&T can reach those LTE speeds, but the phone can pull better speeds with HSDPA, not Edge.
the makers of that app have reported problems in reporting the correct upload speed for the thunderbolt too, so the 45 mbps is innaccurate.
besides the main reason its this fast is because of the lack of competing lte signals for the phone as it is new, and att being behind in the lte game
I think the low signal has something to do with it too. I notice sometimes when I have 1 bar, even when connected to H+ I get intolerably slow speeds. But that pic is funny, good point with the Edge and the comment haha.

Go into the Thunderbolt threads. The speedtest app can't measure correctly for LTE. When they go to speakeasy in the web browser they're pulling about the same speeds as us.

I had a chance to play with a buddy's phone for a few hours and the phone itself seemed slower whenever I pulled up a list, such as apps or pictures. Of course, his phone hasn't been rooted yet, so there may be some untapped potential.
Nice thing about the Inspire is the huge dev community due to Desire HD ROMs being compatible. Thunderbolt is different enough that they will most likely be starting from scratch.
ATT 4G is only HSPA+ not lte so it cant get speeds comparable
Update from the article:
"We've been told by Ookla that the Thunderbolt's massive send buffer is responsible for the erroneously high uplink speeds -- they've got a fix in the works and it'll be available as an update to the Speedtest.net app soon."
I personally don't want to pay $150 for a front-facing camera. I'll stick with my $99 Inspire.

You probably mean 5.2 down and 1.3 up.
I'm in the Tampa, FL area. I'm getting 5+ down and 1-2 up pretty regularly in my area. I'm happy...it's beats the crap out of my old T-Mobile BS. More importantly, the coverage is WAY better.
Yes where do you all live? Where can I get these speeds?
Does anyone know if the icon in the task bar actually reflects what type of tower you are connected to? i.e. will it say "3G" if you are connected to a non-"enhanced backhaul" tower? Mine always shows the "H+" icon, and my speeds have ranged from 1.5Mbps to 8Mbps.
Well it shouldn't. Hspa+ should be available everywhere hspa was, and that's att's entire 3g network. So anywhere you got 3g you should get hspa+. That doesn't mean the tower can supply data speeds in the range of hspa+ 7mbit to 21mbit. The speed to the tower is being called "backhaul"
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
That's what I was asking - if the H+ indicated the tower was upgraded or if it just shows H+ always. I had hoped for the former but expected the latter.
the h+ is only the cell technology used between the phone and the tower, and all 3g towers are upgraded to use hspa+, but this doesnt indicate the towers connection to the network, so even if the tower can only supply 0.0000001mbit, itll still say h+. the only way to know what you can get from your area is to look at your actual speeds.
Just hit 11.47 down and 1.64 up out here in NYC. Pretty good if you ask me.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
Thanks, that answers my question. I was just hoping for an easy way to know which areas were upgraded, since I assume that even with an upgraded tower it's possible to see speeds below 7Mbps and therefore it wouldn't be cut and dried. I've only seen 7+ speeds in one spot so far (at work), I see more in the 2 to 4Mbps range so I guess a lot of my area is not upgraded.
I am very envious. We are supposed to be getting it in the next month. Of course by then we won't have the free tethering anymore.

Here in the UK we only have 3G at the moment, and even I manage 6 meg down and 2 meg up on my 3G version of the HTC sensation. Which is better than the test done on your 4G sensation done on a server 300 miles away? A closer server would most likely produce better results for you.

First of all the point of this was to show that regardless of the nonsense people spew about 64QAM and that we are usually going to be on 16QAM so the difference between a 21Mbps and 14.4 capable phone will not be much different is totally false. This was done at roughly -87dBm on both phones give or take.

At home / work 2-3mb tops... i saw 7megs in dallas once :|
Another useless thread

I doubt AT&T LTE is this fast!

Yes, this does have to do with my Inspire, since I compared to it.
I stopped by a bunch of stores today to check out some LTE phones, their speeds, and the devices, to see how much they stand up to the hype.
On my stop at an AT&T LTE store, I came across the Samsung Galaxy SII Skyrocket. I did a speed test on the device, and came up with these crazy numbers!
I made absolutely sure wifi was off so that the numbers would not be skewed. Also, there was an LG Nitro HD right next to it, in which I ran the same speedtest, and only got about 2Mb/1Mb. Of course I repeated the test numerous times just to make sure, and each time they came out about the same. I whipped out my Inspire 4G, and got about 4Mb/2Mb.
What's going on here? The only thing I could guess was that they were provisioning all the local bandwidth to the Skyrocket in hopes of trying to sell it quicker.
What do you guys think?
Well, Let's see. The skyrocket has LTE, the Inspire does not, hence the speed difference. You do the math.
It's legit.

It think it's fairly obvious that LTE is going to have a huge speed difference, but not THIS huge. I went to a Verizon store today also, and it got nowhere near those speeds. Also, why didn't the HTC Vivid and LG Nitro HDs that were on display get even close to those speeds, even though they were running on 4G LTE?
I think the real meat of this story is the fact that the OP's inspire received better Speed Test results than the new LG Nitro did. I find that interesting.
I'm with the OP in wondering if maybe they're provisioning the bandwidth for certain phones in certain markets.
I believe it's all a conspiracy. I got decent speeds on my Inspire every now and then, but I just wish the speeds were more consistent. I have a Skyrocket now and the speeds can be exceptionally nice in certain areas.

don't mean to be off topic(i apologize), i understand theese speeds are lightning freakn fast, but what is one to do with theese speeds, at the current rate anybody running on a 2gig plan can expect to run that out quickly, right? check in on threads about phones running lte, and there will be a thread called throttled (for unlimited data users), 22mbs is great but two weeks later some are running 100kbs, sounds tough. so what exactly is the point of the large bandwith? faster cpu, dual core n such i get, but speeds like that are meant for home entertainement/pc, gaming console/pc, work etc.
