[Q] How do i upgrade from Froyo.uckh1 to Catyrom v2.1 - Samsung Infuse 4G

Just got my infuse a week ago but want to upgrade to catyrom 2.1 currently using
froyo.uckh1
kernal version 2.6.32.9
baseband version i997uckk3 upgarded
firmware version 2.2.1
do i need to change kernels or bootloader to do this? been reading for days some say i do and some say i dont would just like a little clarification due to this being my only source of internet if i brick this ill be in trouble. so id like as much info as possible before i jump in head first.

You will first need to root your phone then get 3e recovery, and then clockworkmod(cwm) installed. You will then want to flash GTGs community kernel to get red cwm. The flash GB bootloaders through either Odin or heimdall. Once up and all running, flash catyrom

Jason,
start here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220090
and read carefully...
you don't have to choose infused...use catyrom instead.
or you can also use adam outler's heimdall to get to 2.3, flash the recovery kernel and use red cwm to flash catyrom.
do forget to click thank gtg or adam or me

Me and Caty appreciate your support also...

[Q] Flashing a different kernel?

Since I am kind of new, but have flashed a few ROM's to date with no issues, I wanted to ask before I fubar'd something.
Also, I have searched for the answer to this question but I have yet to find a clear cut answer.
When flashing a different kernel to a ROM, I download the kernel in .zip format and place it on my SD. I boot into red recovery. Do I just flash the kernel like I would a ROM with the exception of clearing DATA/CACHE? Same goes for modems?
I appreciate any help anyone is willing to offer.
TIA
Yes or you can get SMS Kernel flasher from the market and not worry about going into recovery unless your flashing a modem or rom
Big Dog Infuse I997 ZEUS rom!!!
Cool, I will try that. Thanks!
Your answer forces me to ask another question in regards to flashing modems.
When/if I need to flash a modem is that when I need to go into red recovery and install zip from SD or is there a special procedure for flashing a modem? If so, I will go looking for the specific instructions.
However, if you cared to post them in a response I would greatly appreciate it.
TIA
Just flash modem from recovery

So, when u build a ROM do u put a updated kernel in it? Why would i need to update the kernel?
Drivers...ui interface...all around performance and tuning...I am not a kernel dev ..I'm a rom dev...entropy or bedwa can get more in depth...

Some kernels also allow for overclocking/undervolting but give up bt and/or HDMI out
Check out gbinfuse and entropys dd in the dev section. The threads make for good bedtime reading

[Q] How to Downgrade 2.3.6

Hi am a total noob here so i deicided to update my galaxy S 4G to 2.3.6 but i don't like how it looks or what it changed to the phone and i basically want to go back to stock firmware or 2.3.4.
I know you can use Odin to complete this task but am not so sure which version or how to perfrom this task...so i need a brief tutorial on how to bring it back to normal (download links would be helpful) Thank You
Did u update your phone OTA?
Also 2.3.4 is GB which is basically the same as 2.3.6.
I think whar you want is to go back to froyo which is 2.2.
Just ssearch for the KD1 file to flash your phone with Odin back to Froyo.

Prior to the 2.3.6 update in Kies Mini the stock firmware was Froyo-based (2.2.1 which was KD1). If you're wating to go back, check the Dev section. There's a sticky for the Bible that can point you to some other ROMs. Search the Dev section, too, if you're looking for a specific ROM/version.

That first link will get you onto KF1, which was a leaked GB ROM. The second is KD1 (Froyo) but has root and those things. I don't know of any non-rooted Froyo based ROMs on here, though someone may be able to correct me on that.
I looked in the file and that particular ROM does not have the boot loaders. Give me a few minutes & I'll try to find you a link.
We don't have true stock kd1. Someone is supposedly working on it. You can get close or....call t mobile and tell them you don't like the upgrade.
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
Try this one. It's KC1 and flashable via ODIN. Once you have this, then use the KD1 you found in the Bible to get to KD1.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/kc1c...k.zip/download
+1 to what Bassmanjames said regarding no stock KD1. You're kinda stuck until one is developed.
Its okay thank you guys for trying and helping.
Who knows maybe Samsung just might release 2.3.7 (highly doubt it thought)

Definitely doubtful but I don't think you'd see much of a user interface (UI) change. That would probably come from getting Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) which, again, doubtful but we keep hoping
Let me know if you need help getting that to flash via ODIN.
I highly recommend Valhalla Final, which is a custom ROM, but is stock solid and stable and is 2.3.6.
I believe it will be the best we could get out of this phone.
Samsung will not give us ICS.
Besides, according to Google changelogs the only difference between 2.3.6 & 2.3.7 is the Google wallet service.

Umm... that's probably because it's meant for froyo bro. If you can still boot into the rom that you were in, add the su fix in the Doctorz rom and then flash it. If not, odin to stock, root FROYO, 3e, gtg community kernel. You know the deal.
This phone is a headache....my skyrocket is so much less frustrating!!!

If you had really researched it you would have read that SOC won't root the kk3 leak.
The GB roms that you see have been modded or ported.
To root the kk3 leak all you have to do is flash entropy's kernel dated 11/02/11.

I'm sorry, but I'm a total noob with Samsung. I rooted to a particular ROM, but ran into some issues and had to unbrick the phone. Upon doing so, I selected the kk3 leak and then lost root. I used SOC 2.3.3 to try to reroot, but I got stuck at step 7. So I want to try flashing Entropy's kernel as you mentioned. I'm not sure how to do this though. The kernel is in a CWM .zip format, but Odin reads .tar files. Do I unzip the .zip file and then convert to a .tar file? This didn't seem to work when I initially tried it, but perhaps I did something wrong. Any special settings I need to use? Also, do I just need to reboot after I flash it and I will have root? If not, what else must I do?
Sorry again for my lack of understanding. I've been trying to find an answer for hours and have become a little desperate. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

[Q] What is the newest stock ROM I can odin?

I'm going to set up an Infuse for my Mom tomorrow.
I don't want to install a custom ROM. I just want the OEM Gingerbread, which I'll root and debloat myself.
But I'm unfamiliar with the Infuse GB ROM's.
Which is the most recent available for Odin?
The UCKE3 GTG or the UCKD5 or something else?
Also, if the phone (used) has Froyo on it right now, is it okay to odin straight to Gingerbread or will I need to flash a kernel or radio first?
Btw, here are two of the ODIN's I'm thinking of:

Okay I found out that Samsung released Gingerbread. It's old news to you guys but when I had my own Infuse last year, it hadn't been released yet. I assumed it never would be either.
So this link shows how to update to Gingerbread via stock Samsung kies.

It should probably be added to the super thread. I PM'd the OP about it.

[Q] Flash a rom or kernel?

I just got a samsung infuse from my stepbrother. It has been already rooted and unlocked.
The question is I would like to install one of the newer OS in this beauty. In the mean time I would like also to change my modem because it sucks (sorry).
So is it better to install a package such as a kernel how got all this stuff or flash a ROM and then look up for a modem.
It would be very apreciable if you suggest me some nice kernels/flash to install.
Firmware version: 2.3.3
Baseband: I997RUXKG3
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-I997RUXKG3
thanks!

Anyways, I would advice you to go back to stock first. And then re-root it. After that, just pick a custom ROM of choice. (Gingerbread ROMs are ironed-out pretty good whilst ICS ROMs are in development). Read through threads. The best modem is UCLB3 in my opinion.
Good luck!

Yes, I advice that you go back to stock. If you use Odin back to stock, your Superuser application will still be there. That is completely fine. Just re-run Odin again on the "How to root Rogers Infuse" and it will give you a fresh new superuser and a Clockwork Mod recovery and modified 3e recovery WHICH YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED to flash custom ROMs.
After doing so, follow the steps on how to flash the ROM that you wish to use. All the links are at Infuse 4G/Android Development/ISET Super Everything Thread by bigjoe.
All the links and ish you need will be there I strongly recommend reading a lot first before trying anything out. Also, FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS GIVEN in respective threads that you're going to visit to assure little to no problems.
Good luck! If you have any more questions, feel free to PM me.
