Hi am a total noob here so i deicided to update my galaxy S 4G to 2.3.6 but i don't like how it looks or what it changed to the phone and i basically want to go back to stock firmware or 2.3.4.
I know you can use Odin to complete this task but am not so sure which version or how to perfrom this task...so i need a brief tutorial on how to bring it back to normal (download links would be helpful) Thank You
Did u update your phone OTA?
Also 2.3.4 is GB which is basically the same as 2.3.6.
I think whar you want is to go back to froyo which is 2.2.
Just ssearch for the KD1 file to flash your phone with Odin back to Froyo.

Prior to the 2.3.6 update in Kies Mini the stock firmware was Froyo-based (2.2.1 which was KD1). If you're wating to go back, check the Dev section. There's a sticky for the Bible that can point you to some other ROMs. Search the Dev section, too, if you're looking for a specific ROM/version.

That first link will get you onto KF1, which was a leaked GB ROM. The second is KD1 (Froyo) but has root and those things. I don't know of any non-rooted Froyo based ROMs on here, though someone may be able to correct me on that.
I looked in the file and that particular ROM does not have the boot loaders. Give me a few minutes & I'll try to find you a link.
We don't have true stock kd1. Someone is supposedly working on it. You can get close or....call t mobile and tell them you don't like the upgrade.

Try this one. It's KC1 and flashable via ODIN. Once you have this, then use the KD1 you found in the Bible to get to KD1.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/kc1c...k.zip/download
+1 to what Bassmanjames said regarding no stock KD1. You're kinda stuck until one is developed.
Its okay thank you guys for trying and helping.
Who knows maybe Samsung just might release 2.3.7 (highly doubt it thought)

Definitely doubtful but I don't think you'd see much of a user interface (UI) change. That would probably come from getting Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) which, again, doubtful but we keep hoping
Let me know if you need help getting that to flash via ODIN.
I highly recommend Valhalla Final, which is a custom ROM, but is stock solid and stable and is 2.3.6.
I believe it will be the best we could get out of this phone.
Samsung will not give us ICS.
Besides, according to Google changelogs the only difference between 2.3.6 & 2.3.7 is the Google wallet service.

My cousin is having issues with his phone and asked me if I could help him flash back to stock. I'm doing some forum searches but I can't seem to clearly find an odin rom to return to stock (as in out of the box T-Mobile US stock, unrooted). I'm not familiar with the different samsung versioning, ie. kd5, etc....so I think that's what's making it difficult for me to understand which to use. (I'm assuming it's got to be out there, and that I just don't understand what I'm seeing in my search results to figure it out. The lettering is confusing the crap out of me.)
I would appreciate it if someone who knows what's what can help and just point me to a link to the rom to flash? I've used Odin before, so I think I'm good from there. Thanks in advance.
[EDIT] I'm still doing some searching....should I just grab this:

I'm not 100% about the latter one you posted; I'd have to go read through the whole thread. However Raver posted an ODIN version of Samsung's official KJ6 ROM here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353176
Make sure you factory data reset after you flash to clear your cousin's data off of the phone.

Yes, just make sure it's the Odin one.
Android 2.2 (KD1 Froyo) was stock on my phone purchased in November 2011. To obtain a non-rooted version with no alterations to the recovery mode, check the official samsung site here:
http://ars.samsung.com/customer/usa...ID=2&PROD_SUB_ID=557&PROD_ID=560&AT_ID=373879
All the other versions I've ever ODIN'd including Ravers "KJ6 stock only" came pre-rooted.
KD1 was fast and smart but 2.3.6 Gingerbread (KJ6) is faster, even though an official GB release was made for the SGS4G, it is not considered stock equipment.

We have a thread with the KD1 complete stock firmware.
Samfirmware.com doesn't have the files on their site anymore. They are SamMobile.com now.

Well if you do want a stock KJ6 rom you can use the one click I made here:

It's important to make sure that if you want to go to gingerbread from froyo, that you have the correct bootloaders installed. Don't use Rom Manager. Period. Don't Install CWM from Rom Manager. There is a sticky about it, but everyone seems to ignore it.
This is the thread I have used a few times, and it will get you to Gingerbread with CWM which will allow you to install other gingerbread roms:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223765
After that you can flash the lagfix 2.3.6 KJ6 Kernel (which is great):
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1380331
Here are a list of popular roms:
1.) Valhalla Black - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1404863
2.) Valhalla Regular - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402966
3.) Octane - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1305145
4.) AOSP Style - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1323973
5.) ICBINB - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1278389
6.) Simply Simple - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321611
Each Rom has special instructions- Ravers require specific mounts for example, which can be found under Mounts and Storage in CWM. Good Luck
Thank you so much i am familiar with odin so thats the program ill stick with.
Currantly im on froyo 2.2.1.

Yes, you can. However, you have to be careful. If you're going from Froyo to GB (and I think vice-versa) you have to insure the ROM you're flashing has the right boot loaders. Else you could end up with the infamous "rainbow screen" or stuck in a boot loop.
But thats fixable correct?.....
What im getting at .....is im guessin this phone is near unbrickable like the vibrant.....correct?
You can break any phone. Some errors may delete your CWM, which means that you will have to re-flash from Odin, or a similar program. However, if you are careful, and read every instruction properly, then you should be fine. It seems ridiculous at first, especially coming from a Nexus One, but it honestly is a really simple process.
Ok cool i was just checkin to make sure my suspicions were correct
Ok now one more question.....is there no odin flashable rooted 2.3.6? or am i just not finding it?
Cuz now im on 2.3.6 stock unrooted....and id like to sell it rooted as an added bonus to whoever buys it.
Im thinking i want to go back to the vibrant 3g....
2 months and im due to upgrade
Heimdall.
There is a thread in the development forum for a one click root and bhundvens kernel. One click and you are all set

i put the phone up for sale. Again thank you
Well ATM ive still got it,and am running stock GB rooted and running with cwm recovery thanks for all your help.....this phone really aint so bad.....
I screwed up and put vibrant firmware on the S 4g and now the phone stuck in a boot loop. It seems like I can still connect to the phone using Odin. So my guess is that I have to put the stock software back. Any help identifying the right file? Whatever I can find is all for rooted phones and for Voodoo.
I didn't root the phone, so I don't know if I can flash it with anything but stock. I don't know what Voodoo is, but I didn't install it.
You can flash any odin flashable rom.....look in the stickies in the developement section.....but some say you should flash a stock rom.....i flash back to ravers stock gb rom when i feel a need

You rock, dude! Thanks a lot!
The phone is operational after I completed steps 1-8b. I wasn't sure if I needed to do the rest since I don't have a "favorite GB ROM". Nor do I know what it is for that matter . I guess I need to do some reading during my spare time unless you care to tell me what GB ROM is and what my favorite GB ROM should be.
So, what do I have on my phone after these steps? What's kc1 and k6? Am I rooted at this point?

KC1 is Froyo and KJ6 is GB.
Finally it occurred to me that gb is Gingerbread...
The question remains: Am I rooted at this point? Also, is the GB FBis251 recommended pure stock or with some additional flavor? Why doesn't kies recognize the phone?
I recommend you stay on Gingerbread. Follow the guide all the way through and you'll be on rooted stock KJ6 (Gingerbread 2.3.6). You can also try out some custom ROMs at that point. Check out the development section, there are around 5 actively developed roms right now.

I don't want to install a custom ROM. I just want the OEM Gingerbread, which I'll root and debloat myself.
But I'm unfamiliar with the Infuse GB ROM's.
Which is the most recent available for Odin?
The UCKE3 GTG or the UCKD5 or something else?
Also, if the phone (used) has Froyo on it right now, is it okay to odin straight to Gingerbread or will I need to flash a kernel or radio first?

Just out of curiousity, is there some specific reason you need 2.1? If you're just wanting to go back to it for nostalgic reasons, I think that the one-clicks in Development section are the only way to go right now.
If you're just trying to go back to stock for warranty purposes, I believe that AT&T officially pushed out the Gingerbread update, so you could flash that one and take it in.

If you're only going to be going to a Jellybean rom, you could also just download a Gingerbread-based stock one-click from the development section (with bootloaders) and flash that. It would get rid of the 3e error, and give you the bootloaders you'll need to flash anything else as well.
As always, be careful when flashing bootloaders, though. Make sure you have a good connection to you computer.
