I used7.1 for about a month and like it a lot for daily use, but when I use certain apps it won't work or I would have to force close it.
Apps won't work unless I reboot the phone. Some of the apps are like Pandora, camera freezes sometimes, gps doesn't seem to work well,..etc.
I went back to 7.0 as it's more stable and I can run the above apps with no problem. But 7.1 battery life and speed is much better. Are there any fixes to the force close problems I'm having?
I did have some similar problems myself ,and ultimately decided I may have SD card issues .
I purchased a class 10 16 gig card and have not had any issues since .
I know it's been a few weeks since you posted this ,but I just wanted to throw my hat into the ring on this issue .
P.S.
I also did a fresh install of CM along with the new card . But I'm still convinced that the SD had issues .
They can be damaged easily when not dismounting properly etcetera .
Best of luck to you ....g

Hola....
I have the TP now 4 like 3 weeks....
In the beginning I installed a lot of programs on my STORAGE CARD!
After the installation I had a lot of problems with my device...like the broken screen issue...and the grey stripes....phone flippin...crashing....thinghs like that.
BUT then I did a hardware reset....took the easy way...
setting->system-> erase content..
After my reset I installed all the programs I installed before...
programs like advanced config, diamond tweak,, coreplayer, klaxon, tomtom etc...
BUT the difference was that I installed everything on my phone....
It worked great 4 me!
I never have issues with my phone anymore....
Everything runs smooth!
so DON'T install programs on your card...
It helped me....maybe it is gonna help you!
you might be on to something here!
thanx for sharing.
With the HUGE amount of storage on-board there's really no need to install programs to the storage card anyway. Plus stuff runs faster from internal storage and is still available if the card is ever removed, or if you connect to a PC in DISK DRIVE mode (which makes the storage card unavailable to the phone's OS).
Basically, always use internal storage until you start getting low, then use the storage card, but only for programs you use rarely.
Incidentally I think Tomtom always installs to the storage card, I don't recall ever having a choice to put it into internal storage.
Now that you mention after my "grey screen" issue i've never installed anything on my storage card and my TP is running fine ever since.
I never thought i could be something so simple and like Jim Coleman mentioned with that much memory on the device who needs the storage card for installations anymore
Great finding pensador
P.S. I will publish this on the wiki at the know issue's section
I have everything installed on my phone, and not the card (except TomTom) and I had the broken gray screen thing once about 4 days into owning the TP and never since. Ive had it weeks now.

Have you used any Tweak programs??
I have found that if you use any 'Generic' Tweak programs the unit starts to go squiffy..seems a few non-device specific Tweaks from older devices cause problems, especially BT (different hardware and even WM5, 6 and 6.1 specific!).
Just add the known working tweaks for this device via a reg editor ( most Diamond seem to be OK so far) and if you add them one-by-one you will know where problems occur..
Remember, everything on this forum holds the the 'Caveat Emptor' disclaimer..(except you usually get it for free!)
Here, use this from windows when connected via Async if you don't have an internal reg editor (takes up zero room also!)
Search for the thread with Raphael tweaks, before the device was even released someone who got their hands on a pre-release tested out every single tweak from the "Diamond tweaks" thread and gave feedback on if it worked or not, and how much it improved the device. That should narrow it down to the tweaks you should do and the ones you shouldn't bother with.

Yup can't agree more..
Search and Ye shall learn.
lol, since i owned the TP i already installed everything on the phone itself and not the storagecard.
and like i mentioned in other threads, i have never hed a problem so far.
(still knocking on wood)
even TT works great, no GPS lag or what ever (the maps are on storagecard but program is not).
I have to say that I installed a ton of programs on my Storage card, and never had any issue. I am using a 2GB MicroSd card. Maybe the problem is with larger capacity cards or the SDHC drivers on the mobile itself?
I have the Touch Pro for a bit over a month now and never had any issues with the screen or anything else other than the GPS. Most of my applications are installed on the memory card, except WkTask and Pocket Wakeup. I have also used advanced config 3.2 to alter many settings. I have a 8Gb microSD Sandisk card which I purchased for my N95 many months ago when they first came out, which is formatted as FAT32. I don't know if these help but I guess other factors should be considered, like the SD card's format, it's speed and it's quality.
I got allmost all mt programs installed on the storage card (8GB SDHC) exept the advanced config. and my phone works like like a dream.. ok that was to exaggerate
But I never had any issues with it since I uninstalled sensor lock from the phone.

I used AdvancedConfig to apply the speed boost tweaks as well as various other things, like power saving stuff. I did a registry edit to hide SIM contacts, that didnt save though after a soft reset.
I only had the gray screen once at a restaurant about 4 or 5 days after receiving it. Since then I have had a few freezes, but nothing major. TomTom works great for me too.
Also, something strange, when i got it new, it got very hot like i read on the forum from a few people, but since then, it doesnt do that. It gets a little warm, but not hot.
hey friends,
I installed Google Maps in storage card (4GB HDHC).
sometimes I feel it freezes. I have to close the app and restart it to make it work properly, or I have to do soft reset.
if I will install it in my phone memory, will Google Maps cache consume lot of space?

... way to bring a post from last year back into action:[
no it will not you should just install it to your phone , there is more than enough room to hold 15 google maps if you wanted so don't fret about installing things to internal memory.
searched forums for days for an answer and couldn't find one. Found my solution and figured I'd pass it along. had a 2.2 device, but suffered from random shut downs. Went through 2 additional units, and noticed successive lag with each device in general homescreen switching, games, and tried all solutions I could find except rooting/lag fix. With my fresh new device, I went to 2.2 and experienced the lag. My original device had none and many other devices ran fine. Its the sd card. I had an external, since I put it in an external card reader, wiped it out, formatted the card and put it back in the device the phone runs lightning fast. 2.2 should have no lag at all, this this device doesn't. Give it a shot.
I could not find a similar thread so posting this. I have a samsung infuse and its on the stock ROM , baseband version is I997UCKH1. I have over 200 apps installed. A couple of months back I had a problem where in my infuse crashed and booted only after several attempts. After some googling, I figured the problem was because of the SD card, hence i formatted it and installed some apps on the phone memory. But my infuse has not worked properly after that. Everytime I update the apps through google play, the phone crashes. It also crashes while using some apps. I thought it may be because my internal memory was low. So I started moving some apps back to the SD card. The phone crashes even while transferring the apps. I am guessing the problem may still be with SD card, but I do not want to reformat it again and have to install all the apps again. Wanted to know if there is any solution to this problem. If the problem is actually the sd card still, will the apps work if I just transfer all data from my current SD card to a new SD card and use it.
I had similar problems on my first infuse. My solution was a factory reset (since you're on stock). And because you have many apps, definitely back all your data up so you can restore it after.
Also, if your warranty is still up, it might be of use to contact them. I've heard they want a reset before you ship your phone in. Not entirely sure though.
Hope that helps a lil

Honestly, you probably have too many apps installed. I know running over apx 180 apps on most roms will cause a lot of lag and frequent reboots. If you can, try backing up and then deleting all but your most essential apps and run your infuse like that for a few days and see if the situation is better. You then might want to try restoring either (best) an app at a time or (not as good) a few apps at a time until you find what is causing the problem. Good luck!
thank you for the replies dr_nacho and wd4oay. Sorry i did nit check the forum in sometime. i did clear some unwanted apps from my sd card and now waitin to see hw it goes. also my phone is out of warranty so cant do anything on tht side

Hi
Can't remember whether or not this has been asked and answered, but here goes...
Shield tablet
5.1.1
Non-root
For the past 2 months or so I've been plagued with random reboots ( up to 2-3 times a day)
I've tried to
wipe cache 2 times
delete a whole bunch of apps
Change power settings
I have NOT YET tried to do a full wipe, due to the fact that I've got waaaay to many apps that don't sync data with google so it would be a major hassle to fix settings, copy data out and so on.... But am looking at backup solutions that include DATA ( helium)
I haven't been able to ascertain pattern.
Any suggestions on what I can do , or for that mater any way to find out why the hell it restarts.
Thanks in advance!
D
That's strange. So just reboots, no shutdowns?
I can only assume, maybe a rogue app with reboot access.
Just reboots
And It seems totally random.... everywhere from 4 times a day to non... Load dosen't seem to matter . From netflix and web to plain and simple spotify. It's driving me up one wall and down the other... can't figure it out, and really don't want to factory reset
Any form for event viewer or something that I can take a look at?
Worst part is I use it to take work notes and on a few occasions it's died (rebooted) on me in the middle of notetaking... starting to really mess with things ... and yes I know, do a factory reset, and I will if I run out of options. But my fear is that after I reinstall all the apps I'm back to square one, and it all starts all over again.
Maybe hibernating all non stock apps with Greenify could solve the riddle; if it's indeed a software issue. Once the problem ceased, activate one app at a time till the reboot bug reoccurs..
Hi
Sry for the slow reply
Been testing the Greenify for about 2 days and the same is still happening. I've more or less put all non stuck apps into hibernating list.. and run it every so often, as well as activated the hibernate at screen off. And it still happens... wish there was an event log or something that could point me in the right direction.
That's too bad. What if it is malware? I'd say make a factory reset. Stay clear of non stock apps and watch and see. If it still reboots, it must be a hardware issue. You still have warranty, aye?
Nope warranty is out, I think. I mean 2 year but got it back in 2014 at some point.
A damn it, was hoping to id the damn offending app and fix it without having to factory reset....
No one knows of any event / log feature in android ( akin to event viewer in windows)...??
I just read on Amazon that someone had the same issue inconsistent reboots and the culprit was a micro SD card.
Do you have on inside your Shield?
I had this problem like 3 months ago. When tablet was charging the led indicator was blinking on green an orange. The problem was that the cable from battery was connected bad, I just had to connect it with solder. (My tablet is replaced )

Yeah, I do have an NTFS formated sd card installed...
Do you know of any easy way to check...or even better fix it?
Replace the SD card with another one or don't use one for now. You can still backup via USB or WiFi.
It may be a incompatible issue or a damaged SD card.
Backup via usb? As in copy paste the content of the SD card?
I have a lot of apps on the SD card, and not enough space on local storage to move back to tablet ....
Was hoping for some software based diagnostic or test to check the sdcard
Yes, you can copy n paste. Or save new data on a new SD card etc.
I presume there are Android SD card checker apps. But I think that won't help if it's an incompatible issue. Anyway, unmounting the current SD card won't erase its data. It's the sour apple you've to try.
Just somehow experienced the same.
Android 7.0 - no root no anything.
It's weird. Now it rebooted with 1% and then died. Before it just rebooted around 40%. Anyone found a solution?
Thanks
Hi All,
I got a new S8 Plus this past Friday. Nice phone, but after spending a few days with it, it seems to have some issues.
The SD card seems to mount and unmount randomly. I have a few apps that are on my SD card and every now and then I just get the gray android generic "App Not Available" icon in place of the correct app icon. Then eventually it may show up again, or it may take a reboot to show up again.
The other thing (more annoying to me) is that the phone randomly reboots without error. No heat, no other issues that I can find, just a complete reboot. Again, there is no app that seems to do it, no excessive (or any noticiable heat at all for that matter). Just a reboot. I know it does it overnight as well because I can check the system up time, and I can also tell because I have iris scanning set up and after a reboot you have to plug in your pin number no matter what.
FYI - I called Samsung and they had me clear my cache and reboot to safe mode. Other than that, they did nothing else, said to watch it. And did not indicate anyone else was experiencing this.
Just wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing this.
Thank you!
A lot of folks are experiencing this, myself included. Try moving any apps you have put on your SD card to back to internal storage, that stopped the random reboots for me. I've removed my SD card for now, hoping a software fix is possible. If this "SD Card Monitor" app is correct my card mounts/unmounts 100+ times per day, even when sitting untouched on my desk!

I have an old Sandisk 200Gb installed in my T-Mobile variant 8+ and have not experienced any sdcard issues or reboot issues. I DO NOT have any apps installed to the sdcard either.
Verizon S8+ here. I have a year old Sandisk 128gb Sdcard in mine and I have no reboot or dismount issues.
