Hola....
I have the TP now 4 like 3 weeks....
In the beginning I installed a lot of programs on my STORAGE CARD!
After the installation I had a lot of problems with my device...like the broken screen issue...and the grey stripes....phone flippin...crashing....thinghs like that.
BUT then I did a hardware reset....took the easy way...
setting->system-> erase content..
After my reset I installed all the programs I installed before...
programs like advanced config, diamond tweak,, coreplayer, klaxon, tomtom etc...
BUT the difference was that I installed everything on my phone....
It worked great 4 me!
I never have issues with my phone anymore....
Everything runs smooth!
so DON'T install programs on your card...
It helped me....maybe it is gonna help you!
you might be on to something here!
thanx for sharing.
With the HUGE amount of storage on-board there's really no need to install programs to the storage card anyway. Plus stuff runs faster from internal storage and is still available if the card is ever removed, or if you connect to a PC in DISK DRIVE mode (which makes the storage card unavailable to the phone's OS).
Basically, always use internal storage until you start getting low, then use the storage card, but only for programs you use rarely.
Incidentally I think Tomtom always installs to the storage card, I don't recall ever having a choice to put it into internal storage.
Now that you mention after my "grey screen" issue i've never installed anything on my storage card and my TP is running fine ever since.
I never thought i could be something so simple and like Jim Coleman mentioned with that much memory on the device who needs the storage card for installations anymore
Great finding pensador
P.S. I will publish this on the wiki at the know issue's section
I have everything installed on my phone, and not the card (except TomTom) and I had the broken gray screen thing once about 4 days into owning the TP and never since. Ive had it weeks now.

Have you used any Tweak programs??
I have found that if you use any 'Generic' Tweak programs the unit starts to go squiffy..seems a few non-device specific Tweaks from older devices cause problems, especially BT (different hardware and even WM5, 6 and 6.1 specific!).
Just add the known working tweaks for this device via a reg editor ( most Diamond seem to be OK so far) and if you add them one-by-one you will know where problems occur..
Remember, everything on this forum holds the the 'Caveat Emptor' disclaimer..(except you usually get it for free!)
Here, use this from windows when connected via Async if you don't have an internal reg editor (takes up zero room also!)
Search for the thread with Raphael tweaks, before the device was even released someone who got their hands on a pre-release tested out every single tweak from the "Diamond tweaks" thread and gave feedback on if it worked or not, and how much it improved the device. That should narrow it down to the tweaks you should do and the ones you shouldn't bother with.

Yup can't agree more..
Search and Ye shall learn.
lol, since i owned the TP i already installed everything on the phone itself and not the storagecard.
and like i mentioned in other threads, i have never hed a problem so far.
(still knocking on wood)
even TT works great, no GPS lag or what ever (the maps are on storagecard but program is not).
I have to say that I installed a ton of programs on my Storage card, and never had any issue. I am using a 2GB MicroSd card. Maybe the problem is with larger capacity cards or the SDHC drivers on the mobile itself?
I have the Touch Pro for a bit over a month now and never had any issues with the screen or anything else other than the GPS. Most of my applications are installed on the memory card, except WkTask and Pocket Wakeup. I have also used advanced config 3.2 to alter many settings. I have a 8Gb microSD Sandisk card which I purchased for my N95 many months ago when they first came out, which is formatted as FAT32. I don't know if these help but I guess other factors should be considered, like the SD card's format, it's speed and it's quality.
I got allmost all mt programs installed on the storage card (8GB SDHC) exept the advanced config. and my phone works like like a dream.. ok that was to exaggerate
But I never had any issues with it since I uninstalled sensor lock from the phone.

I used AdvancedConfig to apply the speed boost tweaks as well as various other things, like power saving stuff. I did a registry edit to hide SIM contacts, that didnt save though after a soft reset.
I only had the gray screen once at a restaurant about 4 or 5 days after receiving it. Since then I have had a few freezes, but nothing major. TomTom works great for me too.
Also, something strange, when i got it new, it got very hot like i read on the forum from a few people, but since then, it doesnt do that. It gets a little warm, but not hot.
hey friends,
I installed Google Maps in storage card (4GB HDHC).
sometimes I feel it freezes. I have to close the app and restart it to make it work properly, or I have to do soft reset.
if I will install it in my phone memory, will Google Maps cache consume lot of space?

... way to bring a post from last year back into action:[
no it will not you should just install it to your phone , there is more than enough room to hold 15 google maps if you wanted so don't fret about installing things to internal memory.

Please can you help. I purchased Tomtom 3 a few months ago and installed it correctly on my XDA2. I used this fantastic program for 2 months until my XDA2 developed a hard reset problem. The Faulty XDA2 has now been replaced with a new XDA2i.
This is where the problem starts. Firstly I had trouble installing the software, I had to remove the Activesync Partnership to get it to work, it eventually installed correctly. I used the Tomtom 3 today and found the XDA2i freezes, the calendar works etc but tomtom is problematic. I even tried to close down all running programs and does so yet tomtom remains froze on screen, leaving me no option but to reset the device.
I reset the device and after 5mins - 30mins of using tomtom again it freezes.
I'm guessing it could be a probelm with the Bluetooth or possibly memory card however both the bluetooth reciever and SD card worked ok on my XDA2.
I have read as many posts on this forum about this problem and seem to have found the possible reasons:-
SD Card not fast enough or incompatible (especially the 1gb Card)
Active O2 is the problem with a memory Leak.
Phone signal loss causes the problem
Does anyone know for definte, which problem is actually responsible for this lockup?
SD Card - I have tried the SD card on my XDA2 and it worked fine yet with the xda2i it could be causng the problem. To check if this is the problem im going to install the maps on the actual HD of the XDA2i and remove the SD card, it can't be that then!
Active O2 - I have installed the corporate install and it has froze once already, yet it may have been a coincidence. Watch this space!
Phone signal loss - could be that need to test it out when it next freezes, check the phone signal status at the precise moment of the lockup.
Can you help? I now have a tomtom 3 sofware with UK maps and Maps of western europe that is at present useless to me, and I keep getting lost when I drive.

Its worth trying this, make sure your gps is correctly bonded and recognised by tomtom, open the gps portion of tomtom with blutooth switched on, when you get a lock open up the tomtom main program, always close tomtom with the exit tab and make sure its closed by using a task switcher or going to settings/memory/running programs. Please let me know if this long winded effort at a solution helps at all.
Hi,
I always close down Tomtom 3 using the exit button in the navigator menu. The problem I have is when the Tomtom freezes there is nothing it will do. Howvere I can press the calendar button etc to use the XDA2i as if there isnt a problem yet Tomtom 3 is still froze in the background.
When I go into the Memory settings of the XDA2i I stop all programs and can see TT3 running. It tries to stop it and says end task now, I end now and the question disapears yet when I go back into the memory it is still running and if I open TT3 it opens up as a frozen screen.
The only way to clear TT3 from being froze in the background and to get it working again is to reset the device.
It could be the SD card, Active O2 or the phone signal, it could be something else.
One thing is for sure is the reply I got from Tomtom which is below:-
Dear Tomtom, Please can you help. I purchased Tomtom 3 a few months ago and i...

Dear Mr Donnellan,
The XDA2i has not yet been fully tested and is not yet supported.
Please make sure that you have installed our latest GPS driver 3.07.
We hope to have answered your question to your satisfaction.

GREAT HEY!! GOOD OLD TomTom
I had problems like you using a 1gb sandisk SD card, it worked fine in my XDA2 and XDA2s, but in the XDA2i it worked but would soon lock up.
after reading posts about sandisk cards causing problems i got hold of some cheapie lexar SD cards. and it now works fine.
I do understand you dont have a sandisk card, but i think it would be worth a try to change or borrow a diferent make card.
Good luck John
I've got a Lexar 1GB 32x High Speed card, and I've had this problem on both the 2 and 2i.
I used to use another 128MB and I really don't recall ever having this problem on that one. However, I sold it after I got the 1GB.
The 1GB was an Xmas pressie so I didn't really want to draw attention to it, and I've attempted reformatting it and defragging etc...plus now it's probably too late to request a replacement.
My first point of suspicion would be the card, definitely. Also, can you fit the 100+MB onto your 2i internal ram? I don't think there is anywhere near enough space is there?
Cheers
Ant
I'm experiencing the same.
Do you have Tom Tom Traffic installed?
I'm thinking that this is the cause of my problem.
Just for the record I don't have TT Traffic installed.
I have tried various methods of eliminaton to highlight the actual cause. The XDA2i freezes using tomtom3 with a fresh corporate hard reset with only the TT3 installed after default.
Tomtom's bare minimum was installed, that is no traffic just the software, GPS and maps of GBwith voice.
One thing I have found is the SD card works most of the time however last night i tried to run TT3 and it said it couldn't find the maps. I checked the Memory settings and ithe SD card was showing and looked like it was working correctly, yet tomtom couldnt see it!
If it did this when I was using Tomtom 3 then I would imagine a lockup happening which it is.
I am drawing my conclusion to the SD card being the cause.
Just out of interest!
PLease can all the people who have experienced this problem of lockups using tomtom 3 say what size of SD card they are using.
I am drawing my conclusion to it being caused by 1Gb SD Cards only.
Can anyone tell me if they have experienced the lockup using anything smaller than 1gb.
Cheers
Lee
I'm using a 1Gb card and having this problem. I'll change to a 250mB and see what happens.
Hi all,
Update!
I bought a new SD card today (512mb SD Card) and guess what, the XDA2i using tomtom froze again!! Its not the SD card. However it did take longer for the lockup to happen, I managed to drive 25miles before it froze.
I bought the SD card becasue I installed the Maps on the XDA2i's own memory and didn't experience any lockups at all on that. I thought it must be the 1gb SD card hence the reason why I bought a 512mb.
When I tested the maps using the XDA2i's memory, I didnt drive that far so it may have been within the 25mile range so it didn't truely test it.
After the lock up, using the same 512mb SD card, I tried driving with the phone off, I drove all the way back home from the point of the lockup i.e the same 25miles back home. It didnt lockup so it may be down to the phone. I have read the the phone signal loss causes the lockup, they may be right, I'll test it out fully tomorrow.
I'll keep you posted.
Bye
Are you using a BT headset at the same time by any chance?
That's when I get my lock ups.
Hi,
I have reached a full conclusion and can report success!
Following some extensive testing with various installs and setups I can now finally explain what I think is causing this freeze /lockup.
Its the Phone! of all things!
Here is a summary of the testing setups bearing in mind nothing else was installed on the XDA2i other than default and the tom tom had GB Only Maps.
Active o2 installed (Personal) using 1gb SD card and phone on (FREEZE)
Active o2 not installed (Corporate) 1gb SD Card and Phone on (FREEZE)
Active o2 not installed (Corporate) 512mb SD Card and Phone on (FREEZE)
Active o2 not installed (Corporate) No SD Card, Tomtom using Memory of XDA2i and Phone on (FREEZE)
Active o2 not installed (Corporate) 1gb SD Card and Phone off (OK)
Active o2 not installed (Corporate) 512mb SD Card and Phone off (OK)
Well there you go, with all the setups that froze, the lockup took longer to happen with the smaller SD card, using the 1gb SD card it took approx 5miles of driving whereas the 512mb SD card I managed to drive 20miles.
Today, I drove 149 miles WITHOUT a single lockup using the 1gb SD card, POI installed and other Apps in the background running, all this because the phone was OFF. Wireless On! as I use Bluetooth GPS.
The reason people may be experiencing a lockup when using a Bluetooth Handsfree head set is because the phone is ON! I think anyway! its not becuase of the Bluetooth Headset.
I think the problem lies with the phone changing cells (changing masts) when you drive, thats why the freeze occurs at various points when you drive. I don't think it is nessecarly due to loss of signal as the phone seemed have a signal when I had a lockup. The masts change must be the problem, changing from one mast with a good signal to another with a good signal!
Anyway Yippee I have found out the cause, hope its the same for you guys too.
One point I must add, I found that using the 1gb SD card the XDA2i runs slower and can cause you to experience problems loading the maps or installing tomtom maps onto it without deleting the partnership in activesync. I am downgrading my SD card to my new 512mb card as it runs smoother and seems to cause less problems for Tomtom.
Any one with other suggestions please post, Knowing my luck it will freeze tomorrow with the phone off, I think that 149miles is pretty conclusive though, especial as it froze again when I turned it on again.
Bye
So what good is that? A phone that has to be off to work properly!
I'll check out your recommendation of the smaller card and let you know.
Good investigative work.
If I hadn't unlocked mine I'd send it back for a replacement. I don't want to pay to unlock again and TomTom are a real pain with authorising a new install on another phone/pda.
lock up tomtom3
Hi all...I posted same problems some weeks ago...didnt take too long tho' to discover that it is indeed the phone that causes the freeze up... I noticed it when I passed the same point locally and realised that there is a phone mast there...so when the phone picks up a signal from a nearby mast etc it freezes the system...I use it without problems with the phone off..in flight mode..I have even had replacement xda 2i from o2 thinking it was that that was faulty..as for tomtom 3.7...doesnt make any difference,,still freezes...albeit whilst installing it it doesnt tell you that it was meant for earlier systems.
so come on tomtom...get it sorted!..
One thing I haven't tried is using Tomtom with Active O2 installed, i'm installing it now to test it out tomorrow.
Active O2 was always suspect after reading a post about it having a memory leak. I'll let you know if this adds to the cause of the lockup.
Its good to hear someone else report the phone causing the problem. I did actually read a post when I first started this task saying the phone was in fact the problem. One of the things I find with any forum is you never know if that is an isolated case or is the actual cause. This is why I have tried to report fully on what I have done in order to help other people.
I must say this Forum is wicked and many thanks to the creator and the users.
Cheers
It might definitely be ur SD card.. cos i use a Transcend 80x 1 GB card and never had a problem... probably the card is too slow.. try the 1GB from tanscend.. they never disappointed me....

Sorry to hear about your problems. TomTom has given me problems on my XDAs, my XDA IIs, & now on my XDA IIi! I'm told that the new version 5 will sort everything out..........now where have I heard that b4? Have changed sd cards, tho I must say I haven't tried with the phone off & as TT don't want to give me a new key for mine, I'm waiting for the release of nav 5.
Also I travel a lot in East Europe I have always used TT Routeplanner, which has main roads in E Eu but it won't load on XDA IIi, you can also use MS Autoroute 2001 on a PC, which has main roads in E Eu but no bluetooth capability. (Autoroute dropped all E Eu detail a few years back as they provided for more detail in West Europe)
Has anyone heard of a version of Routeplanner that'll work with 2003SE?
Does anyone know of a Nav programme for PC that has comprehensive coverage of Eastern Europe?
Safe travels! My TomTom & I, lost in Europe! LOL

I can definelty say it is the phone that has caused my XDA2i to lockup when running Tomtom 3. My final test today was a success too, I performed a Hard Reset last night and reinstalled Active O2, Tomtom 3, POi Warner, All the usual Apps that come with the Device and Installed maps of europe.
After completing 200miles today without a single lockup using tomtom 3 with the phone off has proven the phone is the single cause of this problem.
I installed the Maps etc on my 1gb SD card! However I am going to use my 512mb from now on which seems to allow the device to run smoother.
Whilst on my travelles today, I stopped and had to use my GPRS connection to download Email.
I closed down Tomtom and reinstated the phone adn connected to GPRS Web and successfully downloaded my Mail. I then closed down GPRS connection, turned off the phoen which I have to say is pretty hard to do as I seem to only be able to turn off the wireless connection which in turn truns off bluetooth. I then managed to get Bluetooth working again keeping the phone off and managed to drive some distance until I reached home without a lockup. Just proves that the phone can be on but not at the same time as tomtom 3.

Hello,
Almost a year ago I purchased my Kaiser (an Orange Kaiser) ans started to flash my phone.
I have already used several ROM avaiable here: Dutty (sevearl versions), L26 (SEVERAL Versions), Hyperdragon, Mobile vista, etc, etc, etc. Have already tryed several versions of the Radio firmwares. 1.24, 1.57. etc. Also, have already tried almost EVERY Hard SPL avaiable and so far I had the same problem:
Few days after flashing the Kaiser starts do slow down its performence. For ex: I press the Call button and it takes 40 to 50 seconds to enter in the touchpad screen. Sometimes it don't even enter the the call screen.
It get worst: sometimes I get no signam from the phone even if i'm side by side to a antena (where any other phone have a strong signal).
The only solution: HARD RESET. I mean, after a hard reset it looks like its other phone. Strong signal, fast response.
I can't possible imagine that I'm the only one here with this kind of problem. Does anyone knows how to solve? Does anyone here knows ehy it happens?
PS: I have already tried configurations with diferent programs. I have already tried with and without S2L2, With or without HTC Home (most without), With and without pocket launcher, with and without today agenda and SPB calendar. Can only think that this is problem with something in the ROM or the radio since every single configuration had the same performance issues.
Can someone please help me?
Thanks
Dandare
I had a faulty SD card that was giving me similar problems to this. I think it was due to Coreplayer and Audio Manager scanning the faulty SD card for music and the read speed was really really slow on the card. Everything would grind to a halt. I bought a new card and everything was fine after that. You could also try formatting or removing the SD card to eliminate the card being the source of the issue.... but you'll probably turn around a say you don't have an SD card
Good luck...
Yeah recently I got this issue. The filesystem on my SD card for corrupt somehow, and I was unable to access anything on it via activesync (my pc) and my phone.
So I just installed some prob( i forget the name) and formatted the SD card, then re-flashed. And since then it's been quick as can be
Hey guys,
I've been having this issue as well. I have not found it to be my storage card as i have tried 4 different cards. i have put the cards on my BJII and it works without issues. I also have found that with some of my early L26 Flashes i would just ride it out and it would work again.
However i have not had my HDIII Pro for that long but i'm hoping that it would would do the same.
If someone does find a link to what is really going on i would greatly appreciate the advice.
Thanks
Also, I actually believe if you text message a lot (i mean basically excessivly) as my brother does, the device will slow down.
He has my older Hermes, and he has unlimited texting, but within 2 weeks he would have sent 1500-2000 text messages and recieved about the same ammount.
By that time his phone would start lagging and being a pain, so I would usually just do a new flash (or hard reset), since deleting that many texts normally would probably take 48 hours haha.
Anyway when it gets re-flashed everything runs normal and fine. But whenever the phone gets cleared everything is smooth again
So maybe it's the amount of text/emails you have? Idk
Going to test the SD card. I have a 4Gb SD card but I'm actually only using 1,4 Gb, so I can use a 2Gb with no problem.
This going to take a while since the phone starts to slow down after three or four days, but I'll let you guys know if it solved.
Thanks!!!!

If you have a vista based machine, It will correct the filesystem errors automatically, and you wont have to reformat...
Works great for me, My desktop is VU64, and my lappy is MCE2005. All the flashing happens on the laptop, and transferring files to the SD (Music & Movies) via WMP happens on the desktop.
Idem
I have same problem.
I try to found confirmation in italian dedicated forum , nobody has had the same problem.
After any minutes where the kaiser freeze , i do not have the same problem.
As is autoconfigured.
Now i used selfmade rom (by official italian rom, and hardSPL 3.29).
Sorry for my bad english
All of them that I've tried, thus far.
You MAY NOT see this, by the way, depending on your access pattern, but it is DEFINITELY HAPPENING.
The problem is that its really, really ugly - your card's data is slowly being DESTROYED.
When it hits the "wrong" file, you will find out - the hard way.
This is NOT a "cooked ROM" problem - AT&T's base 6.1 load does the same thing (!)
The EASIEST way to find it is to use Advanced Config to move the IE cache to the card, then play a while. Suddenly the device will lock. You soft reset, and all "appears" well. Its not.
How do I know its damaging data? Because it has scrambled my TomTom map files "just enough" that TomTom comes up "No Maps" (!) - but the file names ARE THERE. The signatures are destroyed - it only takes ONE BYTE of change in the wrong place to do it.
Now what the ##$)! is PIE doing writing in that directory? Its not - on purpose.
The RSS reader will reliably do this too.
If you point them at main memory, no problems. Its SPECIFIC to the SD handler.
Its also SPECIFIC to 6.1 ROMs. 6.0 does NOT exhibit the problem, yet EVERY 6.1 load I've tried can be provoked into doing this.
The only fix is DON'T WRITE TO THE SD CARD via programs. Well.... that's not the WORST thing in the world on a Kaiser as it has a lot of internal memory, but....
Anyone know what the #@#$ is going on here - or have a fix for it?
PS: If you think you're not running into this, don't say I didn't warn you when you find one of your files destroyed without warning. I have run byte-wise compares of SD images and the corruption appears to be almost completely random. And yes, its across both SDHC and non-HC cards (2GB) - both are hit by it, and I've got three, all from different manufacturers. This is VERY reproducable and its not hardware either since 6.0 does NOT exhibit the problem.
Quite interesting... which rom build are you using ?
Have tried several - the most recent being the Hyperdragon 11/15 build.
The stock AT&T 6.1 build did the same thing as soon as I switched PIE's storage to the card. Its not instantaneous but if you browse for a significant length of time it WILL do it.
Flashed to 3.29 HardSPL to be able to load the various cooked ones here, all that I've tried so far do the same thing. Flash back to 6.0 AT&T, no problems.
VERY consistent.
I just put 3.28 HardSPL on to see if that changes anything. Can't imagine why it would, but....
Its pretty subtle if you don't browse heavily - if you get a "lockup" with PIE while its set to write to the card YOU ARE SCREWED. You may not know WHICH file got smashed but I guarantee one did. If it smashes the MFT then the fun really begins (the entire card's contents are gone), but I would prefer that to a RANDOM file getting destroyed!
I have run sector-by-sector compares and have found that where it "scribbles" when it happens appears to be completely random.
And again - 6.0 does NOT do it, and if you only READ from the card, its fine.
I suspect that its a "per-event" risk and so anything that runs from the card and writes data back there EVENTUALLY will screw you - its just a matter of time.

thats why it is strongly recommended NOT TO store ie cache to storage card. Keep it on device memory. There is no fix for this problem yet except keeping ie cache on device.
Sounds pretty easy to bypass the problem, eh? Don't store stuff to the card. No big deal. I mean, c'mon, it's not like we're going to run out of memory storing the IE cache on the device.
Beside that, it must only be IE as I've always used the card to store my email and attachments and have never had a problem. However, I am using a 16GB card...perhaps that makes a difference. I've been running various 6.1 ROMs (including some questionable betas) for almost a year now and have experienced ZERO corruption. Also, if it makes a difference, I perform so much data transfer with my card on a weekly basis. Pretty much filling and emptying about every third day.
It is NOT only IE.
The RSS reader that is in there (RSSHub) that HTC stuffed in the later roms does it too.
I managed to trigger it last night with RssHub; thinking IE was the only culprit cost me (another) reload of my SD card.
Be careful - if its per-event risk then ANYTHING you store on the card (e.g. pictures, etc) could cause it, and apps like TomTom that write places you set as destinations to as a cache can cause it too - its just that being data dependant the more often you write, the higher the risk.
BTW this is a 6.1 issue that does NOT affect the Wizard - I have had a custom (I cooked it) 6.1 ROM on my Wizard for six+ months without a single screwup. But I've yet to find a 6.1 ROM for the Kaiser that DOESN'T have this problem.
BTW, is there a 6.1 ROM around WITHOUT the new PIE? God I hate the new format on that thing...
I have been beating on PIE stored on the card, plus RSS stored on the card now for over an hour - after loading HardSPL 3.28 (was running 3.29) and SO FAR I haven't had it happen.
Now this doesn't mean much, but that I got a solid couple of hours in without it blowing up - when I was pretty reliably able to do it previously - might be significant.
Or maybe not.
I'll run this way for a week or so and see if I can get it to misbehave.... I have card backups
yah i have learnt to back up my sd all the time cause im CONSTANTLY getting corruption..but corruption i can see like messed uop names and folders which ive found more consistant when i have sd power settings set to enabled in advanced config..
I have also witnessed RSSHub destroying my card several times
I remember this problem when WM5 came out on the Artemis. It was linked to the power state and the device going into sleep mode. It never occured when you used the power button, only when it went into automatic sleep. I think there are options in schaps advanced config regarding this - might be worth a try.

I mean CE build number and aku. We have now many available builds from which to choose, and we could investigate whether it's a problem related to an HTC driver alone or if there's something in the SYS services too which has to be patched. I'm not talking about workarounds at all.
20931.1.5.0 (assuming the SYS and XIP were ported)
I don't have the numbers from the AT&T load handy.
Downgrading the SPL MAY have fixed it. I haven't had a lock/trash since last night when I changed the SPL. Hmmmm..... that "hotfix" may have been a "hotf$ck" instead.
Will update as/when I learn more.
This is NOT WM6.1 problem, if anything - it is WinMo's problem in general (all versions).
I have witnessed exactly same problem on WM 2003, WM2003SE, WM5, WM6 and WM6.1 - and I bet its the same on WM2002 and WM2000 (I just never had any of those ancient devices).
Solution is very simple:
DO NOT move IE cache to SD card, that's all.
Unless you have to (i.e. my iPAQ 6515 have literally no space left on Main Storage and I have to use SD for IE cache etc) then simply make at least weekly backups of your SD on your PC, its not a big deal, but it is annoying like hell (specially when it happens "on the road").
I have same problem several times!
Most offen it's happend in A***OS Smart Rom (don't remember full name), then i flash into wm6.1 off and it happends only one time. I use StorageTools to ix My Card after that (not data, only card)...
Is this heal????
Just use Opera browser. I dont have that problem in my tilt, although i did had problem with hermes, and scan and fix errors for the card made it go away. And i also a 2GB card, maybe it is an issue with higher storage capacity cards.
hi there, i have similar problem with my vario 3, i have installed all my application on sd card including tomtom. I have about 500 mp3 and pictures. i can listen to music all day at work but when turn my tomtom on, it says no maps found and then everything disappears on the sd card. it still shows in memory status that i have used 70% of my sd card but it doesn't show anything in win explorer.
i think it might have caused by installing tomtom on sd card.
can anyone help please?

To recover that files you can use de windows tool error checking that will recover your files but to the found.000 folder (hidden), but the files are useless because is will be on the wrong extension and name
you have now 2 solutions:
1 - is guest the extension of that files and rename it
or
2- use the program named "getbackdata for fat" and it will correct the name and the file extension but not the correct name of the folder where it was. but better than nothing.
hope i could help
I saw this many times with RSSHUB - finally moved to main mem and have not seen it since. I also don't use PIE. It will be interesting to see if its 3.59 causing the issue, please keep us posted. I went a bought a new card thinking that it was a bad card:
If you're running 3.29 get it off your device - in fact, there should be a WARNING on the page for the various HardSPL versions. This may be device version specific (are there multiple hardware versions of the Kaiser as there are with the MDA?) but on MINE, 3.29 does this repeatedly.
I have now been running 3.28 for a week with ALL power management enabled, RSSHub and PIE caching to the storage card, and all my user-loaded apps running from the storage card, and I have been intentionally pounding the everloving hell out of it to try to get it to misbehave.
ZERO ISSUES.
The ONLY thing I changed was the SPL. I didn't even reflash the ROM (just the SPL) when I changed it - just used Jump to get back into the "superCID" mode and flashed 3.29 down to 3.28.
If you're running something other than 3.28, try 3.28.
So far, one week in, it has completely fixed this problem on my Kaiser.

Does this happen with both cmonex’s & jockeyw2001’s HardSPL 3.29?
It happens with the ORIGINAL REAL 3.29 SPL that AT&T is shipping with their STOCK 6.1 ROMs!
That's not one of the hacked ones - that's OEM. I was able to REPEATEDLY lock the device and scramble the card by sticking PIE's cache on the card with the stock AT&T ROM.
I'm near 100% convinced its the 3.29 SPL that is FUBAR'd and not the hacking on it. I don't know why it should matter (its just a boot loader) but perhaps its doing something funky with the SD interface and whatever it does survives ROM initialization during the boot process.
In any event with 3.28 on my Kaiser I have had ZERO ISSUES with SD corruption or freezes of any kind, going on a week now. I've had no reason to reset it - at all - during that time.
I won't call this "conclusive" for another week or two, but given that with my usual usage I wouldn't survive ONE HOUR on 3.29, well, you tell me.
Hello everyone,
i own a Raphael since January and in this time it allready killed 2 SD-Cards.
The first one about 4 months ago.
Suddenly in the middle of usage the Raphael froze and i could not get it started again. even after a hardreset it was stuck in the bootscreen.
after a lot of trying and finally removing the sd card it bootet again without a problem.
the card was not readable anymore in any of my devices or windows boxes.
i thougth myself. well can happen even when a card is only half a year old got a new 8GB card and forgot about the incident.
yesterday while listening to some podcast suddenly the sound died. taking out the phone i found out it did not reacted to any power button presses or anything the screen stayed black.
after a softreset the phone worked again but took about 5 minutes to get in a usable state and the programms installed on the sd card where not aviable anymore.
taking a closer look i found that the card was not displayed in file explorer anymore.
gave it a try with my mp3 player. same result no card was found.
today in the morning i gave it a try on the pc with an sd-adabter. but also no result, wondows does not even recocnizes any device being plugged in. tryed a few data recover tools but non of them found the card.
someone has similiar experiances or any tips how i could get my data back from the card?
i guess the phone has to be send back for maintainance, but i doubt that they will find anything, if they accept it at all.
I have changed 4 sd cards because of similar problems. But the problem is most likely because of the fragility of high capacity microSDs, I wouldn't blame Raphael. Try other manufacturers (and try to find the ones that are not just rebranded)
I've had many issues with sd card corruption, but have solved some of the issues. Here's my advice (fwiw):
1. Get a card scanner, and regularly scan your catd. I do it everyday (takes 5 min). I use Wizcode Scandisk. It fixes errors and dumps out files that can be opened in notepad. It's worth looking at them, as it helped me find the multiple sources of corruption that I had.
2. Don't put your PIE cache on the card.
3. Change all 'save' paths (esp. the camera) to main memory.
4. Store any programs you use a lot on main memory.
5. Do NOT have any programs that run constantly on the sd card.
6. Do NOT put Fingerkeyboard on the sd card (major problem for me).
Basically, my advice is to use sd cards for storage. The Raphael has a lot of memory-use it for programs. I haven't had to format my card in about 4 months. I was doing it every couple of weeks for a while.
well basically i was using my sd card as a storage place for movies and podcast + podcastplayer prog.
and was using the player more or less the whole day.
i used the same card (and the other one before) also in my mp3 player when the raphael or the bt headset run out of power and there is no power outlet aviable to recharge. and twice the card failed in the rapahel.
when i got a new card, i also found that the card is working 100% on pc and mp3 player, but the raphael still can not see any sd card.
i really blame the phone and also assume that it now has a defective reader.
have to give it back to repairs as soon i have flashed the original firmware and make my way back to the store
You should scan the disk to find out the error sources. It may be something simple that causing them. Also, if your phone freezes when listening to music, you may want to either wait it out, or remove the card before soft resetting. You should do some searches on card corruption. There are lots of threads here that can be helpful.
many Sdcard and usbStick manufacturers got lowlevel format tools you can download and get cards not otherwise working in cardreaders on pc back to life
would love to get those cards working again. but i also would love to get the data back that was on them.
but the problem is the cards do not even appear on the pc, or any other device i have that can read/write them (usb card reader, digi cam, mp3 player)
its just as if nothing is ever inserted in the reader.
the low level format tools don't rely on windows driver model to detect cards
Flash Format (cnetx) has always been able to re-format my card, even when my pc couldn't recognize it and neither could my fuze. It has a free trial that works fine.
I haven't experienced any of these issues myself. But I'm sure I will now that I said that....
i gave that flash format a try, but it even failed to install. was one of those weird .exe installers. on the pc side it told me install was sucessfull, but on the ppc side was just a promt "installation failed".
a cab install would be nice, but without a working cardreader in the phone i guess would also not be of much help. i guess cuz of that that prog will not help me much. the reader in the phone is broken. cant read any cards, even brand new unused ones that are fine everywhere else just dont show up on the phone.
as for other "low level format tools" my search was quite unsecessful. i was looking at the sandisk and the transcend page (the suppliers of my 3 cards) but could not find anything.
google just found more request for this kind of program but not really somewhere where i could get it.

Check C:\Program Files\Microsoft ActiveSync\CNETX-you'll find the cab in there. There will be several-you want the PPC-Arm one. It should install fine.
Card Freeze
Yeah I had the same thing happen. Raphael would not boot unless I removed the card and as soon as I placed the card back into the sd slot it would lock up. Unlike you I was able to get on of my PCs (either the XP Pro or the Vista Pro) to recognize it but all I could do was format it.
OK I like the idea of moving all the data to the main however I'm an old Windows CE guy (yeah I had a Jornado) and the memory used to be shared between program and storage. The device would allocate from the other when more was needed. If I place all the stuff I want into the Raphael main memory won't that lower the amount of RAM I have for running programs or vice versa? I really don't know if the memory is fluid since all I get when I look into the memory is one listing total storage and one total program, there is no slider bar like there used to be in windows ce.

The storage memory on the device is flash, not ram, so you don't lose program memory changing the save paths to main memory (if that's what you meant by moving data to main memory).
I never had any issues with my storage cards (sd and cf) on my 2003 device. I don't think it was the device, but rather the cards. The big, 16 gb cards just seem to be less hardy than a 1-2 gb card. I had all my apps on the storage card (including stuff like magic button), and never had a problem. But, jeez, the 16 g microsd is sensitive as hell. It gets minor bits of corruption at least once a week. I scan it everyday to avoid it crashing, which has helped, because I've gone 4 months without formatting it. One thing that I've found screws it up royally is doing a lot of file/directory operations over active sync on a pc. I don't know why, but cutting and pasting files from one folder to another in the sd card frequently results in lost clusters. Renaming folders is also a bad idea.
OK Flash
Well I guess I didn't explain it correctly. According to HTC the RAM is 288MB with a ROM of 512MB. So I'm really confused since according to the start>settings>system>memory the total for my storage and my program = 549MB which is of course more than 288 and 512. So when I load applications into my device and get a choice of main or storage card when it was a large file (some apps I use were 14 megs or more) I would choose the storage card.
My old experience with Windows CE was whatever memory was on the device was shared with both the program and storage, so I would put as much as possible on my storage card. However in windows 6.1 or higher it lists two separate columns for Program and Storage with: Total, In Use, and Free. So when I install apps I presumed they went into the storage area. Am I mistaken? I figured Program on the device meant how much is currently in use. Kinda like opening multiple windows on a PC. I notice it's low when at once I have 4 applications open on my windows mobile device so that's what I thought Program memory was.
Therefore does installing to the Main, when given a choice during program installation. where does it get installed ROM, RAM? Why is my total memory higher than RAM or the ROM
Any insight would help me decide the best location for my program installation to not corrupt the data, or have the flash card screw me up either.
288 MB is the total amount of system ram. A large amount is not user-accessible, it's used by the kernel/OS/Page-pool, so you don't see it reported. It's still there, though. The rom memory is 512 MB, but the actual memory in rom is subtracted by the storage memory so you see the amount of user-available memory. With 2003 devices, if the battery ran down, you lost all of your data, because the storage memory was in RAM (except perhaps for a little flash disk space). But with a fuze, you can pull the battery out, and not lose your data.
Totally confused
OK your right about the 2003 devices which is why I placed most of my stuff on a storage card. However why is my total reported memory 549MB more than the 512 ROM? Also when I install stuff to the device where does it get stored, the 512 ROM? Are you saying that the 200mb of Program being shown is 288 RAM minus the 88 being used to run the OS?
So are you saying its safe to install all my apps onto the device and I won't lose anything if the battery runs out?
Yeah, I've been saying that for about 3 weeks, lol! They got rid of the volatile storage memory with winmo 5; we're onto 6.5 now, and it's a thing of the distant past. I you don't believe me, pull out your battery (there's no backup battery on the device) and see if it causes a hard reset.
This is not an uncommon problem with digital cameras, as well. It's complicated, but the bottom line is this: whenever you buy an SD/micro SDHC/etc. card, you should do a full format of it on your COMPUTER, then put it in your device.
Is anyone running into a problem with apps that have been moved to sdcard just disappearing? Most of the time I see little green droid icons all over my launcher (ADW), and lots of missing apps in the app drawer. I can reboot several times and eventually all show up.
I'm running ee4_debloated-v421 / 0730_charge_voodoo kernel / sdcard_patch. Am on my second handset (first one had a clicky button go dead). The earlier handset occasionally did the same thing.
I presume the sdcard is the culprit, as it is the common element. But I have popped it out, run fdisk and defrag all with no errors.
Any theories??
I had this happen when I first got my charge. How I fixed it was I took the SDCard out of my phone and put it into my flash media reader, and then did a full format using HP's Format tool with default device settings. It took a long time to do the full format, but after doing so, I didn't have any more issues with apps disappearing that were installed to the SDCard.
Full format, huh... (gulp) well it's certainly worth a try! I'll report back.
Thanks,
Larry

I know when the phone first came out, there were several users with SDCard problems. I'm not sure how others fixed them, but a full format and a half hour or so fixed mine
Well, I'm disappointed to report that the problem did not disappear :-( Could it be the contents? I copied *everything* from the card before full formatting with the HP tool (which tooks hours as you said), then copied it all back. Same result... if I reboot enough times it will come up with all apps showing.
I've ordered a Class 10 card. Plan to use the HP tool on it straight away. What else would you recommend? Maybe move all the apps back to the phone? Would you start from a fresh load of the ROM?
Many thanks,
Larry

I know that DroidXcon over in the Android Central forums advises NOT to move apps over to the SDcard because of problems like you have experienced...the higher (class) speed card may help. I've noticed that on my stock class 2 card when I view a subdirectory that contains large wallpaper files using QuickPic or Gallery, the thumbnails will often "time out" and not display towards the end of the list unless I refresh the listing several times. I would assume it is for the same reason that recording video to the class 2 card will time out after a few minutes.
Good luck with the Class 10 card...keep us posted!!!
Well, the Class 10 arrived in time to try again, so formatted with HP Utility and copied all the saved files over. Same behavior.
If it's the sheer quantity of apps on the SD card and there is a timeout involved, that might explain it! Reformatting the card would effectively defrag it which would speed it up, perhaps explaining imnuts' observation. And if reading in all those apps at startup is not I/O bound but maybe CPU bound, that would explain my experience.
I'm going to try moving apps back to the phone just to see.
Wow, this is persistent. Moved all the apps from SD back to phone using TiB, which seemed to hang sometimes. Tried different access methods with no clear winner. Anyway, after a reboot, the situation was unchanged. Unreal.
So I am starting from scratch with a freshly-formatted Class10 card, a full data/cache wipe, and a new ROM: GummyChargedFE1.9.1. Haven't had a problem yet, but haven't restored anything to SD either. Proceeding cautiously.
Ok, I'm converted. GummyChargedFE1.9.1 solved this problem. Everything seems to run better. Added the V6 SuperCharger thing which tweaks minfree levels and much more, and the combination runs extremely well.
Biggest problem for me is that I'm satisfied... spent the last two years trying to get my "original" Droid to run well, then got the Charge, started over. What do I do for an encore?
Fast Boot option may be the culprit
In case anyone is following this old thread ...
I did not need to install a new ROM
CUT TO THE SOLUTION BELOW -- SEARCH FOR ////
Some (not all) of my apps moved to SD (all by Titanium Backup Pro) have begun to disappear and (sometimes) reappear without warning after I began to add and delete large Virtual Machines created in QEMU from my 16GB SanDisc class 10 microSD card on my HTC Droid Incredible running rooted stock Verizon Android Froyo 2.2.3. I know this thread is far from my phone's "home base", but from what I can tell this problem with disappearing apps located on an sdcard is NOT determined by hardware or even Android version.
I also happen to use LauncherPro by Federico Carnales instead of the built-in HTC Sense launcher. I noted elsewhere on XDA that a user had suggested that because at least some (maybe all) launchers start before the SD Card that this may be a problem, especially if changes are made to the sdcard that the launcher did not perform, or was not active during their performance by other apps such as Titanium Backup. That fits my situation, because I unmounted the SD, physically removed it to a PC, and added/deleted large VM files to save (lots) of time. No problems of this sort before I did this, so there must be some connection.
I noted that other users have tried reformatting SD, substituting different brands of SD, using newer/older SD etc. None of these reliably helped. So I skipped these options.
//// The (simple!) solution I tried that SEEMS to work (only time will tell!) is buried in the main Android Settings (accessed from the Menu button while in Home screen). Under "Applications" there is a setting "Fast Boot" that I checked long ago and forgot about (it seemed like a good thing to do at the time). The text warns "Turn off to use some Market apps" (that shows the age of my 2-yr old used phone and Android OS -- ohmygosh!-- because it refers to Market rather than Google Play Store!) Anyway, I unchecked the option and rebooted the phone.
Yes, it took a bit longer to boot (maybe a whole minute!), but after waiting about another minute ALL my home screen apps had normal icons and loaded properly. Titanium Backup Pro batch scenarios confirmed there were no apps in a forced uninstalled state (i.e. I had not done the deed, the system somehow had done it or at least rendered the apps "invisible" to Titanium, which decided they needed reinstallation).
The only odd behaviour was that auto brightness was turned off after I unchecked Fast Boot and rebooted. Going into Android Settings > Display and rechecking "auto brightness" took care of that. No other oddities or strange behaviours thus far (but it has only been about an hour).
I will report back here on this thread only (Samsung Fascinate > Fascinate Q&A > What just happend? apps on sdcard) if anything else requires reporting. Silence implies success!
