[Q] Need help, Battery is not detected - Nexus S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have a nexus S 4g i recently bought used and it came with "original" battery. When i plugged it in, it turned on with not problems and showed a charging icon but after 20 sec it would say CHARGED and show the battery to be at 0%. It will not charge any further even if i power down and charge or use usb, wall chargers. I removed the battery and placed it in another samsung phone and it worked, it showed the battery at 90%. What can it be? the battery? since it might not be for nexus S; can it be the kernel? I flashed the newest netarchy kernel and that did not help. I flashed a new ROM that i think includes everything and it did not detect the battery.
Also, in the Status it says battery status is FULL and battery level is 0%
Help!

Looks like your battery controller or your phone controller is not working. Have you tried using the phone? How long does it work?

How can i fix the battery controller?
Phone turns off when i remove the power supply, however when i was flashing i got the android with a triangle behind him, i removed the power supply and it stayed one using the power from the battery.

If the battery controller it's no working then you can't fix it....you can only send it to a repair center, if the phone is under the warranty period they will repair free....

Have you tried wiping battery stats?

Tried a different battery or changed the rom?

Yes, tried different batteries and it did not boot up. Also tried 2 different kernels, and 2 different ICS ROMS and did not work. Unrooted it and locked bootloader to bring it to stock (2.3) and it did not work. It does stay on if the initial google logo freezes and i take the charger out, the screen stays on through the battery.

Let's hope it's not the phone controller...but I would recommend trying to use another battery first or try Mugen calibration app if you're rooted.

Fixed the issue after Samsung repair declared it to water damaged. I got it back, opened it up and looked for any water damage and cleaned this little spot by scrapping of the rust???.. and it worked..

Make sure your battery isnt fully charged (between 20 and 80 percent ideal), Turn off completely (pull the battery out and reinsert if you want to be sure)

You can either let a friend charge your battery for you in his phone
Or
You can get a usb cable, any kind really, chop off the end that goes into the phone. There will be 4 wires exposed, you only need the red and black ones, pay no attention to the green or white wires or whatever color they are. Connect the exposed wire to the battery (to part that touches the prongs on the phone) and it will charge. All you have to do is find out on the web which of the 4 slots on the battery do what, and connect the positive (red) cable to the positive slot on the battery, and the black cable to the neg part of the battery.
In the worst case, you could charge your battery outside the phone with a power supply...
Not an easy way, especially if you're going on vacation...But it's a good thing to be aware from this!
Edit: Durps,you killed me!
my phone charge while off i see alot of people are suffering from this but mine still charge while off my led is on
The issue seems to be fixed with the official cwm recovery flashed from within rom manager.
...at least for me.

walk into a phone shop, ask them if u can charge your battery for 10 mins in one of their phones.
Say something about software crash blah blah, they usually dont care at all, and will let you.
PS to confirm is version v4.0.1.5 the good one? ie will let you use/charge your phone in the "normal" way?
update your versions of rom manager ...the dev updated the recovery and now it does charge
Just install the new CWM version 4.0.1.5 from ROM Manager to fix this (HUGE) bug

[Q] Boot / Battery issue

Phone sits overnight, fully charged battery discharges from 40% to just about empty. Only in this event will the phone boot and charge as normal. Stock current rom.
Now once its on it works as normal, except that once its booted it will not power off and reboot or power cycle and reboot until it has sat for some hours.
At this point it may show a black screen, show a grey battery, show a green battery with dots under it. Unable to get it into bootloader mode without a jig.
Jig may or may not work without pulling and replacing the battery.
Flashed stock bootloaders with Odin, same thing.
Any thoughts?

Oh I did, same thing. Battery works fine in another phone.

HUGE battery drain problem

I'm using a Verizon SIII rooted with the bootloader unlocked. This problem just showed up today. I put the phone on the charger at 13% then, more than 2 hours later still on the charger my phone drops to 8%. I want to restore to from a Nandroid but I'm afraid the phone will die out before it can finish. What should I do?

Sounds like either your phone was not charging at all, your battery has gone completely bad, or your phone is not reporting the battery stats correctly. Try a different outlet? Use an external charger? Different cable?
What all have you tried? I.E. changing wall plugs, doing a battery pull that kind of stuff.

I got this phone quite recently. I hope the battery isn't bad. But the battery is charging, or at least the phone thinks it is because my red LED is on indicating the phone is charging. It may be data related as I turned airplane mode and power saving on and its now charging. I'll be able to restore to a Nandroid soon and hopefully whatever is causing my problem will go away. Anyway have any other idea what could have happened?

Well it really depends what your charging it with. If its not getting enough power from a certain outlet or power source then it might burn juice faster than its taking in.

I got my GS3 Tuesday and i had to replace mine Friday because it was dead and wouldn't take a charge so it might be your battery.
Why don't you shut the phone off and then charge it. Then restore your back up.

[Q] Battery stays at 50%.

So I got my hands on a problematic OPO a few days ago that wont charge at all.
It wont charge when connected to the wall charger nor when plugged in a PC. The only way the previous owner was able to charge it was taking to a phone repair service where they would just take out the battery, charge it using an external battery charger and put it back in. Then the phone shows 50% battery all the time, never goes up or down, and lasts around 2-3 days. The owner got tired of visiting the repair shop every 2 or 3 days to do that and handed it over to me. I thought the USB flex cable is the problem so I ordered this one: (oops cant post links) to replace it but it wont be here for another 3 weeks.
So these are the facts so far:
Battery has been replaced, so its not a faulty one(or so I have been said)
Charger and usb cable are OK as I have tried a few different ones.
Phone connects to the PC and can browse it for files.
When switched ON and plugged in battery says "Not Charging"
When switched OFF the green battery animates to 100% but never goes up more than 50% permanently.
Any ideas on where I can find an external battery charger(not a powerbank)? Ebay and Aliexpress don't seem to have anything like that.
Did I make the right choice ordering that flex cable or did I only waste my money?
Any ideas as to what the problem might be? Anything I can try at the moment?
Thanks in advance
Best regards,
Just a thought, but have you tried flashing the factory images, or even another ROM? It could be a software issue, but if that doesn't work then I am not sure what the problem is.

Isn't this the stock one?
installed ColorOS to rule out the software but no luck. It says: "Battery error. Check the battery contact status". Should I order a new battery or am I wasting even more money?
Battery Stuck at 50%
Hi All,
Even I have faced this issue 2 days back. But it was resolved when I replaced my battery with the new one. First thing is that the replacement battery should be empty for eg. 0%. After you inserted the replacement battery keep the phone for 1/2 hr charging. After 1/2hr press the power button once if its boots fine and then the battery percentage will immediately reset from 50% to 0% and starting showing the charging animation once you boot into the OS. Whereas if it doesn't boot then press and hold the power button for atleast 5 vibrations without the micro usb connected to the power source. Then again keep the phone for charging for 5mins and again press the power button. This time it will definitely boot into the OS and the battery percentage will reset from 50% to 0% and it will start charging. Then keep the phone for charging until it reaches 100%. I hope this would help all the people who are facing this kind of issues.

Just had the same problem after replacing a battery. when looking at the battery connectors, the bottom right of the 6 contacts is bad.
Solution, take your battery back and tell them to give you another one. If it is on the board, clean it or replace the motherboard.
I found the issue! my OP3 has the same problem after i dropped my phone 1 week after i changed my battery. Becoz i did not put double sided tape when i replace the battery, the battery connected ripped off the connector on the mainboard, hence, only half of the connector on the motherboard now. So, technically speaking, the battery only connected to the mainboard with half the connector. Not sure if you understand what im talking about

phone starts without battery but not with

If I directly plug in the phone to the charger and start it (without the battery cable connected) it powers on fine into the OS and I can use the phone as normal (shows 0% battery) but ...
if I plug in the battery - it doesn't charge, no battery icon, phone appears dead. I even replaced it with a new high capacity battery off of ebay but it still acts the same.
Sometimes, when I charge the dead phone it flashes red for a minute and then nothing. I've charged for several hours but nothing.
Where should I go from here?
Try Replacing the motherboard
